Oh, muchas gracias to everyone who replied!
You have no idea how happy that makes me feel.
Valin_Halcyon
- Thank you!
I'm glad you liked it.
Knight_Aragorn
- *giggles* Wow, thanks!
I had all these different mental images in my head for the fic - some survived, some didn't. I'm glad they cam through so strongly, though!
And the ending... *shakes head* perfect, so perfect.
Thank you.
Jedi_BMK
- I tried to stay within R2's character for most of the viggie - sometimes, I thought Luke and Mara got a bit out of control, but . . .
. I'm glad you really enjoyed it.

Aw, I'm so happy you loved it, Mum. I worried about whether it was a bit too silly before posting, but my dad liked it, so I had to.
And then Luke cheated by using the Force! Such a perfect little addition, great characterization, and the battle - what a great mental image!
Luke Skywalker, undone by an astromech.
Originally, TC8 belonged to Mara, and there was more tension created by the fact that R2 loved the redhead's trash compactor. But it was difficult for me to finagle that properly, so I just had Mara come over for dinner. Because she HAD to be present.
Liana, you are so incredibly talented. I could never write anything like this.
Meh.
I bet you could!
I can do humour, and you can do drama. We should grab a bunch of other writers' genes, and clone a Super!Author!
*hearts you too*
Mirax-Jade
- Thanks!
Artoo needs a little feminine company - cause Threepio can be a bit . . . well, prissy and overbearing.
Jadeling
- Hehe! Glad you enjoyed it - after all, droids shouldn't be denied the right to have love interests.
Cherie
-
I'm glad you liked it.
RedGold
- Really? Wow, thank you a ton!
Jedikma
- You're not in the Saga! Or Before? What are you doing in Beyond?
Thanks so much, kma!
Didn't know R2 could be so valiant.
He's a little knight in shining . . . er . . . plastic.
GreatOne
-
I have a feeling that it will be harder to get Threepio a love. He's a bit picky . . .
*runs from plot bunnies*
Jedi-2B
-
Sure, lure us in with the words 'romance' and 'L/M' -- nevermind that I overlooked the word 'mechanical' -- and then give us a wonderfully hilarious little tale.
I'm a tricksy little bugger, I know.
But you know, if I put "R2/trash compactor" in the title, then people would (perhaps rightfully) run away in terror.
I'm so happy you enjoyed it, 2-B!
Leia
- Oh, merci beaucoup!
and I love even more that Sesame Street was your inspiration, LOL. Great show.
I LOVE Sesame Street.
It has to be one of my most favourite shows of all time - there are hidden depths in it, believe me!
That Luke sure is a cheater.
Cause you know, what he did was totally against the rules of droid warfare. You're supposed to take it like a man - or a very stoic robot, at least.
I also loved Luke rushing around, getting the place ready for Mara.
I think Luke's a lot more fun - and a bit more adorable - when he still has a bit of the farmboy around the edges. Like panicking about having Mara over for a business dinner.
StarFighter5
- Thanks.
That's just what I hoped it would do - make people smile.
Lali
-
Gracias, triplet! Thanks for reading! (cheating Luke is my baby
).
Emmi
- *giggles* I know, Em.
I've got a vague idea for a sequel involving Threepio's search for love, but it's still a bit hazy in my mind.
Keep your fingers crossed, though, and hope for the best!

That was hysterical.
It actually reminded me of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (GameCube Game), which made it that much funnier. In the game, the bad guy's computer system falls in love with Princess Peach.
But R2 and a trash compactor . . . oh, that's great.
Keep up the good work!

Go R2. This story was sweet. And Luke being beaten up by R2 is priceless.

- Well, I’m glad you enjoyed it!
It actually reminded me of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (GameCube Game), which made it that much funnier. In the game, the bad guy's computer system falls in love with Princess Peach.
GameCube?
Wait . . . that’s the newest Nintendo system – the big one? That sounds so funny!

- Artoo is my hero.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Jadie
- Thanks!
So far, people have suggested I have Threepio fall in love with the
Millenium Falcon
, a coatrack, and the Death Star for the sequel.
None have really struck my fancy yet, so I'm accepting all the suggestions I can get.
But I do have a title and a general plot:
"Can't Buy Me Love" -
It makes sense that Artoo, now happily attached to TC8, would want to get his counterpart a romantic interest. But Threepio isn't cooperating . . . could it be that he already has a secret love?
And thanks to
oba
for reccing this on her site!

RE: The Things We Do for Love (a quirky mechanical romance with a little L/M)
Li, darling, I've been meaning to reply to this one almost since the day you posted it, but I keep getting distracted.
It's absolutely priceless.
R2-D2 had a secret love.
That has got to rank as one of the all time best fanfic opening lines ever.
Her vocabulary of expletives matched his own, if not outnumbered it – for she certainly never ran out of ways to affront his character.
LOL!
Master Luke did have the tendency to become rather distracted when faced with stressful situations. Not that he would ever space out and forget to save the galaxy for the millionth time – oh, no. But when preoccupied with trivial matters, Master Luke was known to turn a blind eye towards the plight of the mechanical. More than once, he’d absentmindedly given the Golden One several consecutive oil baths because a smashball tournament on the holo had run into overtime.
*dies* So Luke's just an ordinary guy who can't think when sports games are on, huh? I love it.
Yanking three of the boxes out, R2 replied with a simple explanation. Master Luke wrinkled his brow in confusion.
*giggles* The everpresent communication gap between the organic and the mechanical . . .
Master Luke left the room. R2 beeped smugly, trying to gain more leverage on the load. He had triumphed – his soul mate was safe! He let out a few encouraging clicks, and she responded with a quiet, emotion-filled beep that set his circuits whirring blissfully.
That's so
cute!
The redhead glanced around the room intently. Her narrowed green eyes came to rest on TC8, still pounding away laboriously at the load. She sighed.
“Damn, Skywalker, how much junk did you jam in that trash compactor?” She hit the cancel button and began to remove boxes. “Your droid’s smarter than you are – you could have broken that thing.”
That's my Mara.
<Had you not intervened against your programming, my gears would have stalled and the Master would have disposed of me. Thank you>
He twisted his dome around shyly. <It was my duty. I could not let that happen to you because . . . because . . . you are a very efficient trash compactor>
TC8 tooted nervously, her buttons flashing. <And you are a very brave astromech. Now I understand why the Master . . . loves you. As do I>
*giggles madly* Brilliant, Li, just brilliant.

Just found this.
If it's not too late for a suggestion? How about the electronic trumpet-thingies that announce people's arrival to diplomatic functions? You know, one of the nice, big, shiny ones?
Or maybe...A speeder? (grins wickedly) So Luke's looking for a new speeder, and C3PO sees one that he falls massively inlove with...and then Luke continues looking. Poor, tormented Threepio! (laughs)
Hope to see more soon! Peace~ Ari.
