Title: Ellipse
Author: Elena
Timeframe: post-NJO
Characters: *shrugs* I'll tell you when I know
Genre: Just think of the original trilogy, OK...
Keywords: Huh?
Summary: Even when it looks like it does, nothing ever truly repeats.

Notes: OK, you've all read a repetition fic, right? Where the children of the original characters commit the sins over again? Lisse has got a very good one, as I remember...

Well, my primary beef is that it doesn't really happen. Life doesn't happen as a circle, and those characters aren't surrogates for their parents. I guess I really believe in individuality... Maybe I just believe in free will, not predestination. This fic is a modified form of a character list I posted on the Dramatis Personae thread.

So, um, enjoy - if you want to, you can try to see which character is standing in for who. *shrugs* Good luck with that... Avigayil is my primary focus, but this will updated.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
I guess I should have seen this whole mess coming, but I didn’t. But I was never very good at telling when something was going wrong, was I? I mean really wrong, destroying the universe wrong. This is the second time I’ve seen something go wrong but not realized it, but this time it’s not me that’s destroying the universe, it’s her. And I can’t stop her. I can’t even get close to her, because assassination is a whole lot harder when you’ve got the full weight of the government and the military and even the last of the Jedi behind you.
Jag gave me one of the kids – the boy, as it happens – and told me to run. I don’t know how he got the kids, don’t want to know how he got the kids. All I know is that the girl looks like him, but the boy looks like her. He took the girl and ran Force knows where, and I’m a bit sad that I’ll never see him again. But it’s for the best, and I can’t be really sad because if I did see them again, it would be at his execution and I don’t want that for him.
I always thought that he’d be to type to get married and have lots of kids and live happily ever after. Two out of three ain’t so bad, I guess.
The boy is quiet and calm, which helps because I’m on a cruise liner posing as a businessman and businessmen usually don’t have children. If all goes well, the Queen Mother will see me, and the boy will have some form of sanctuary, some way of surviving until she is killed, until these dark times pass.
I never saw this coming, but I should have. But I didn’t, and now the galaxy will see the Jaina Solo really is a Skywalker.
Apparently, the evil gene skips generations.
Interesting. Very interesting. I shall (try) to keep an eye on this.
In light of the recent discussion on PMs, if you are willing I would not mind a PM about updates, otherwise I tend to miss them.
Very interesting start, Elena happy Like the first-person POV, and I think it may have been Jacen taking up the Obi-Wan role there. Obviously Jaina= Vader and Jag= Padmé. I really look forward to seeing more of this grin
Ooh... The sins of the father... or grandfather...
Love it...
Have some guesses for so far...
Firstly, as YodaKenobi pointed out Jaina is obviously Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader and Jag is obviously Padmé Amidala...
I don't agree with him on Obi-wan Kenobi though...
Why you ask???
The following:
1) The man did not speak as a brother in my opinion
2) Kyp was Jaina's Second Master (Anakin had Qui-gon, then Obi-wan)
Therefore I think Kyp is representing Obi-wan
Likewise, Jag and Jaina's children are obviously meant to represent Luke and Leia Skywalker
Lastly the Queen Mother, I'm assuming she's gonna turn out to be Tenel Ka is probably Bail Organa, with a slight, very slight, chance of being Owen Lars... But the royal rank leads me to Bail... Go figure
That's all for now...
Please update soon...
This is fascinating...
Elena: great little 'fic!! grin
It was very "you", but at the same time, you really captured Kyp's weary pessimism, his sesne of inadequacy and old-before-his-time experience...
And, yes, I'm going with the same interpretations as most other people...
Vader = Jaina
Padmé = Jag
Ben = Kyp
The Solo Fel kids = Luke and Leia
But maybe with a twist... Jacen = Palpatine? thinking shock
EDIT: Whoah. No, hang on...
Jag = Ben
Solo Fel daughter = Luke
Solo Fel son = Leia
Narrative voice (Kyp, I think) = Padmé
Tenel Ka = Bail Organa
And there's something else in this, too... some ambiguity or twist or rephrasing that maybe I'm not quite getting... raised_brow grin
Is it as simple as noting that while these twins are clearly Jag's kids, it's Padmé who's Vader's wife... that breaks one way or another, I guess... thinking
*beeps* No, you’re wrong! Not Jacen…
Barefoot:
Very close – you called it right for Kyp, at least…
Thrawn:
Interesting, but you’re forgetting half the characters that will be in this – you called it right on the kids, though.
Blended:
Sadly enough, I’ve read all of them…
Very interesting. I like the title. It works really well as a metaphor for your perspective. The first post functions very well as an introduction to the story. It explains enough of what's happened to hook a reader, but still contains a lot of mystery.
[OK, the first real post in this story. Written while watching the original in reaction to RotS. If any of you could tell me how to center text here, I'd be much obliged.
First situation: sound familiar?]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…

Star Wars: Ellipse

It is a period of civil war. Resistance spaceships, striking for a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Alliance.

During the battle, Resistance spies managed to steal secret plans to the Alliance’s ultimate weapon, the Asnat, a biomechanical worldship capable of destroying an entire planet.

Pursued by the Alliance’s sinister agents, Prince Alemet races home aboard aboard his starship, custodian of the stolen plans that can save his people and restore freedom to the galaxy…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Over a small, boring planet in the Outer Rim, a courier runs. The planet gleams gold-green in the black of space, and the ship makes for it frantically, its’ hull scored by lasers, the markings of the Hapan diplomatic service just barely visible. Following behind it is a giant monstrosity of a ship, fully a mile long or more. There is something not quite right about it, something horribly organic and alive… Someone observing closely might see the turbolasers dis-attach from the hull on long tentacles and begin firing.
The courier didn’t stand a chance.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`

Inside the ship, as the courier shakes and shudders, a protocol droid runs –well, walks very fast – through the corridors. It positively radiates a certain aura – some would call it snobbishness, and more would call it prissiness.

The prissy protocol droid looks one way, and then another, looking like it would sweat if it could. Sure that the coast is clear, save the occasional crewman running past, he shuffles frantically to the escape pods, muttering to himself all the way. As he gets into an escape pod and closes the door, you hear the protocol droid muttering, “Oh, I hate traveling this way…”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
In the ship, various women arm up and take their places near the door. A few tense moments pass; then the door open and bedlam breaks loose. Soldiers spill through the doors, firing their ugly pistols at the women; the women fire back with deadly accuracy. But still more of the boarders come through, until the defense force is overwhelmed. The survivors retreat toward the bridge.
A woman walks into the ship. Her entire body save her head is covered with armor, with sockets and openings for implants to slip through. She taps an implant on her forehead and turns her clear brown eyes onto the soldier behind her.
“Find the senior staff. Bring them to me.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`

A young man hides himself in an alcove in the residential area. He holds a blaster confidentially in his hand, and his brown eyes have a gleeful hate. He’s going hunting.

Troops enter into the hallway where he hides.

“Nasty, how she killed the captain. Choking’s a pretty bad way to go.”

The leader edges further into the hallway.

“Yeah, well, we better find this prince, or we’re gonna have our throats close up on us too.”

The young man steps out and shoots the leading soldier in the throat, then runs away. The other two troopers don’t hesitate in shooting him before he can get away. One of them takes him helmet off and taps an implant in the base of his head.

“We’ve found him,” he relates grimly.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
The armored woman looks at the stunned man. The man shakes off the effects of stunning and glares weakly at her.
“What is the meaning of this? When the senate learns of your unprovoked attack on my vessel, Yun Harla-”
“They will do nothing, Prince Alemet,” the woman says harshly. “I have proof that you and your precious Queen are conspiring against me. The Senate cannot protect you now!”
Alemet weakly laughs.
“You shouldn’t laugh, Prince. We know you intercepted the Asnat plans. Where are they?”
Alemet looks at the woman bleakly.
“I don’t have it.”
The woman turns away in disgust. “Throw him in the detention block.”
Yun Harla walks away, a silent spectre picking her way daintily through the bodies.
Prince Alemet is a he, I take it? Just cause the text isn't quite clear... tongue
And the wording of that crawl is slightly ominous, if I'm reading it right...
But - the Asnat?!? [faec_shock][faec_worried] silly
Silly boy. And yet...
I just have to wonder if there's something more to him that meets the eye, seeing as who his surrogate mother was - that said, the Hapans may have given up something other than weapons this time round... mischief
Hmm... so, who else is there? thinking
I'm trying to wrap my head around the twistiness, though - you say Kyp rather than Jag is Obi-Wan (and there are grounds for that) but the son he's taking seems to end up as Leia, with Tenel Ka as Bail.
Oh, hang on!! Kyp is Obi-Wan, but Jag is Old Ben. Right? tongue
The nearest thing to centred text you can get is a blockquote. The markup you want is
As to the post itself, there's something... odd... about it. There are more typos than usual, especially at the start - 'The planets gleams', 'its’ hull scored by lasers' - and some odd words like 'dis-attach'. On my first readthrough, I'm sorry to say that I found the descriptions surprisingly twisted and awkward, like Vongformed bonsai...
... there is something not quite right about it, something horribly organic and alive - though I'm not entirely convinced that this is entirely deliberate! tongue
However, I do have a fairly confident suspicion that you're going for something outside your usual range with this 'fic. I don't think I've read any actual battle-sequences frome you before, and on reflection, I almost wonder if you wrote it to be read aloud - it certainly works better that way...
That would definately tie in with the way you're openly evoking at least the 'storytelling' idiom of the Original Trilogy - though knowing you, and considering the explicitly 'eliptical' concept, it's a warped bed-time story written by a child for grown-ups...
So I'm not quite sure what to make of it - but part of me wonders if that's what my response is meant to be...
Am I right, or were you just having an off day? tongue
So far, it's very parallel to ANH, we'll have to see where this starts to turn differently.
Then again, the chief difference between an Ellipse and a Cirle is that a circle has one focus and an Ellipse as two focci...which leads to my little theory that Jag is alive, as opposed to Padme's death, and that makes all of the difference! I suppose I'll just have to wait and see, won't I?
