Murder, insanity, suicide – now that’s love.
Okay, so this is not a comedy??
Wow... that was wonderful... if murder, insanity and suicide can be wonderful. It's so sad that those that cared thought him worth saving and yet he felt beyond redemption. Loved the end as Mara took up the unraveling.

Beautifully written, as always. Fits in well as a possible outcome of Dark Empire, even if I try to pretend that series didn't happen.
Now, on with happier stories.

It was on her fifteenth day in the darkness of the Nirauan cave when Mara Jade awoke to discover a rescuer had finally arrived.
It was not, however, any of the potential rescuers she would have expected.
It was Luke.

When she snapped the thread that's when he died wasn't it? Oh dear, that was beautiful, but now there's a cold pressure on my chest.
I loved it, but now I need some happy fic.

Hi, I'm Ish, and you stole my idea from like 8 years ago! J/K. I'm glad you tackled it in such a masterful way. Leia, especially, broke my heart.

Wow!
When I read Vader Mistress's plot bunny I was intrigued, but also apprehensive. Then you volunteered to take it and I knew it would be all right!
This was truly wonderful (if sad). I love it.

RE: Black Thread (very dark L/M-with-a-little-Leia vignette)
Gabri
: You really do crack me up.
Aye, I find repetitious actions soothing when I’m upset, hence why I included that.
And unraveling thread can actually be pretty addicting.
I know DE is supposedly canon, but I really don’t see it as being so, even within the context of the EU. I mean, how often does it get mentioned or dealt with? Basically almost never.
There’s a mention in VOTF, a few mentions in the JAT trilogy ... I can’t remember where else. *shrugs* And, of course, personal canon-wise ...
That whole part where Luke is dreaming is pretty much the only part of the story where it came easily.
You know how sometimes things just work out, and you know what to write? That’s that.
I’m glad I’ve captured Mara, I kept erasing what she said and rewriting it, trying to get down her unique brand of sarcasm and subtle caring.
Talking about forgiveness – I also think that forgiving someone who didn’t wrong
you
is much easier than if they did wrong you. It’s like me forgiving someone who didn’t hurt me, but someone else. And for that reason, I think it has less meaning. Hence what Mara says about not being the person wronged, and it being easy for her to forgive. After all, I doubt she’d forgive Palpatine so easily for
his
betrayal of her. Can you imagine if Luke did?
Thank you, dearest.
dianethx
: I’ve always seen them as having a connection, even before they really get deep romantic feelings for each other.
Thank you.
GreatOne
: I’m a brave girl ... I’ve killed Luke more than once.
Thank you!
academygrad88
: Thank you.
And
.
Jaded_Girl
: I considered having him agree to go with her, but hey, Elli’s plot bunny demanded one of them end up dead. So blame her!
LOL, Gabri does have that habit, doesn’t she?
Thorough girl.
But thank you for replying. I really do appreciate it.
Knight_Aragorn
: Sorry.
But when I say dark, I mean it!
Hey, it was going to be Luke or Mara, and I could see Luke getting resigned to his fate more easily than I could Mara.
I think Luke turning would always scar him deeply. It’s not something often dealt with in the EU (one of the reasons I liked Zahn writing in VOTF how it
did
effect him). Especially the emotional consequences. To be blunt, I think it would have majorly screwed him up. I could very easily see him going on suicide missions (though I don’t think he’d go as far as to not bother with a mission ...).
Yeah, poor Mara.
I’m glad you liked the whole blanket/thread thing. I wondered if that were too obvious.
Thank you.
Jedi_BMK
: Both works.
LOL, well, DE is one of those things that a summary really works just as well. I’ve never read
Traitor
, but that’s a whole other rant.
Good point about Luke being gone – I hadn’t even thought of that!
What if the Jedi hadn’t been around to fight the Vong? Oh my.
Thank you.
Leia
: Hehehe. I love you so, too.
Angst is just one of those things that are just ... inexplicably appealing, no? :p I always love to read good angst. But I also like my daily servings of mush, so I know where you’re coming from.
Thank you!
LadyPadme
:
*loves boxes of chocolate*
Thank you.
The thread part is really why I wrote this story – I started thinking about it in conjunction with Elli’s plot bunny, and it really worked, at least in my head. :p Aye, the ending! Sorry, but it’s what the plot bunny required. :p
academygrad88
: Nice try.
The posts are spaced out the way they are for a
reason
– and there’s only 3 left, don’t get greedy. :p
And thank you. :p
jade_saber8000
: I’m glad you like the line about her running, that’s one of
my
favorites.
Aye, that’s the idea of angst. Aye, I agree with you, he should have taken Mara’s offer and escaped. (Even the idea gives me wicked ideas on what it would be like, fugitive!Luke and Mara.) Thank you.
Pallas-Athena
: Poor blanket? You weirdo. :p
(I say that affectionately
.) Thank you, dearest.
RedGold
: Thank you.
Vongchild
: Isn’t it? It actually worked out to be more of a centerpiece than I had thought it would be. :p Thank you.
Smuggler_Shidakis
: I’m glad you like the symbolism.
Thank you!
Healer_Leona
: w00t, aren’t you usually in BTS?
Aye, I think Luke would have a hard time forgiving himself. He strikes me as being one of those people who thinks he should be above that type of thing (right or wrong *shrugs*).
Thank you.
Jedi-2B
: Thanks.
Realistic is the most depressing.
And I will! :p
StarFighter5
: Close. He actually died just before that. See, the thread throughout the story represents the thread of darkness in Luke’s life. So when Mara snaps it, it kind of means – if he’d held on, she would have snapped that thread of darkness in his life (kind of like how she did in VOTF, making him aware of how his dabbling was affecting even then). Make sense? :p Thank you!
DarthIshtar
: Hey!
And it’s Elli’s plot bunny. She wanted it written, and I obliged. ;) Thank you.
Marsa
:
You mean vader_incarnate’s? Thank you.
And thank you for the confidence!

RE: Black Thread (very dark L/M-with-a-little-Leia vignette)
(being about my reactions while reading)
oba, this was dark and utterly sorrowful and beautiful, too. I think what I loved most about this story was the descriptions weaved throughout, rather like that black thread they both unraveled. It was like, I could
see
everything, even that little Luke interlude inbetween Leia and Mara's visits, painfully well. And I think the use of the repetition and imagery of the thread was a stroke of genius, Mum.
Aye, the Dark Side would've messed up Luke far more than the EU books really portray him. It was just going against such an integral part of his training, and his life, that it had to have screwed him majorly.

RE: Black Thread (very dark L/M-with-a-little-Leia vignette)
*is home from Disneyland*
And might I say that this is a lovely, lovely bit of fic to read while attempting to banish the "It's a Small World" themesong from my brain?
I think I've told you, a few times, that DE was the first bit of the EU I'd read, and I was so damned POed after reading it.
They just handled the whole thing so bluntly, without paying any heed to the nuances of his actions, the consequences that were sure to follow. What kind of government is going to let him off the hook for pulling a stunt like that, even if he manages to do some good? *snort* The people just wouldn't take it, hero or not. o.O
And whoo-hoo for realism! I think I'd just have about died of happiness right after reading this, but I had to go to Disneyland instead.
It was power like he had never known. Beautiful, terrifying, worthy of worship. It came to him quickly and easily, answering his call. It felt so natural, so perfect. What had he been doing, denying this part of himself? Wasn’t all of the Force worthy to be worshiped, used, embraced?
Oh, it was so beautiful.
*SQUEAL* Hells yes. And that's the dark right there, the seduction and the beauty if it that can lure even Luke Skywalker into turning. And I think I recognize a bit of Elli-style, as you'd said in the PM.
You do it better than I do.
When he sensed her, he knew she wasn’t supposed to be there. Her presence in the Force was fiery, but in a different sense than with Leia. It was harsh and dangerous, too, roiled and uncontrolled. Like chains had been broken, and she was running and running, because she could.
Ooh, I know who that is! I don't particularly know why, but it's just so
Mara
of her to come to his rescue like that.
I heart Mara -- screw the damsel in distress thing, here comes the damsel to rescue the knight ...
“Somewhere where you won’t be executed,” Mara retorted, rolling her eyes. “Why do you think I broke into a high-security prison with only one prisoner? We don’t have much time.” She gestured for him to leave the cell. “Come on.”
For the record, this satisfies my craving for dashes of humor.
Hooray for the sarcastic heroine.
He had confessed to her, as if she could give him penance. But who else could understand the bitterly sweet taste of darkness? Who else could know in such intimate detail what serving darkness was? He had wanted forgiveness, not out of innocence but damning knowledge.
*loud squeal* Yes yes yes. Guh. *dies happily*
oba, I heart you muchly.
But, of course, you already knew that.

Thank you.
Descriptions are funny things - I only describe enough things that I can see the scene, and what's happening. I'm really glad you liked the thread thing - 'cause I thought it might be little obvious (and therefore corny).
And yeah, I think the Dark Side would have messed up Luke for life, pretty much.
Which is why DE just seems like a dream, to me.
Thanks, dearest.
Elli
: LMAO, I bet!
Aye, exactly! Such a storyline could have such depth and impact and
emotion
, and it really doesn't. I think they dropped the ball.
I mean, Star Wars is space opera, yes, but it still deals with human beings and human nature, and ... yeah.
And I do not do it better than you do.
No one can be more Elli than Elli.
But I was definitely thinking of you when I wrote this entire piece.
Mara has always kind of screwed up the expected, aye? And I'm glad you liked the dash of almost humor.
Thank you, dearest.
