Jaina Solo couldn’t believe her luck.
It was two hours before the annual pilot’s ball, and she had no date.
All of the dark haired, green eyed young men seemed to be busy tonight. Kyp was body building, Jag was washing his hair, and Zekk was out doing “Jedi Business.” Whatever that meant.
Jaina had even tried asking other guys that didn’t have dark hair and green eyes (imagine that, there were males in the galaxy that didn’t!), but they all seemed to be dating other girls or at least going on a date with them.
Jaina had run through her list of options and had deduced that it came down to one decision: ask this particular man, or go to the dance alone.
Considering that Jaina Solo, Jedi Knight, honored pilot, and esteemed Goddess could not go alone, she forced herself to dial a number on the comm unit.
That number belonged to Wes Janson.
Jaina knew she would never live this one down, especially if he turned her down. Jaina was indecisive as to whether she hoped more for him to not be available, to save herself the torture of going on a date with Wes, or for him to be available to go with her, which would save her from total humiliation.
“Hello?” a voice called from the other end of the comm unit.
“Hi Wes. It’s Jaina Solo.”
“Hello Jaina,” Wes greeted her.
An awkward silence followed Wes’ greeting.
“Jaina? You still there?”
“Yeah. Well… you see… I don’t have date for the ball tonight…” Jaina mumbled through.
“You mean the Goddess does not have a date? What about all of those handsome young whipper snappers that seem to follow you around?”
“They’re busy.”
“What is possibly important enough to keep them away from the Goddess?”
“Kyp is body building, Jag is washing his hair, and Zekk is doing ‘Jedi Business,’” Jaina remarked dully.
“Those do sound far more important than going out with a Jedi,” Wes’ teasing voice commented to her. “So I guess you want me to put in a call to some of the younger pilots for you. You can’t go chasing guys all over the galaxy. You have to maintain your Goddess status after all.”
“That won’t be necessary. They’re all busy.”
“All of them?”
“Yes. All of them.”
“You called all of the available men in the Alliance to see if they were available?”
“Yes. I called all of them. None of them are free.” Jaina paused once again and felt an awkward silence creep back into the conversation. “So I was wondering if you would be free tonight to escort me?” Jaina asked hopefully.
“Tonight… Let me think about this… I was supposed to go work out at the gym, and after that I was scheduled to wash my hair, but I suppose I can fit you in and do you instead of those other things. I mean date you instead of those other things. Not that I would date the gym or shampoo or anything…”
“So you’ll take me out?”
“Yeah. I’d be happy to. Do I have to dress up tonight?”
“Yes, you have to look nice tonight.”
“So a suit.”
“Yes, a suit counts for nice.”
“Any suit?”
“Yeah, any suit should be fine. Wait… why do you ask?”
“Well, I have it narrowed down between this suit that was made from fake Ewok hair and this one that’s very colorful.”
“Neither. How about something black.”
“Black. I can do that. Anything else?”
“Not that I can think of… wait. What color shirt will you be wearing?”
“I have to wear a shirt?”
“WES! Please, just wear a black suit, a white shirt, with red accents.”
“Shouldn’t I just wear my dress uniform? It is a dressy pilot’s ball after all.”
Jaina sighed and rolled her eyes as she realized just how aggravating Wes was going to be that evening.
‘Well, the Goddess can’t go alone…’
“The dress uniform will be acceptable. You will pick me up at 1700 hours. You will arrive with flowers and then we will go to the pilot’s ball where we will dine on the food that is provided for us. After dinner, we will dance, at the appropriate time, and after that, you will escort me home. Is there anything that is not clear about those instructions?”
“Sounds splendid. See you tonight, Goddess.”

 Oh my, Jaina and Wes on a date. This could go even worse than Mara and Wes on a date. I sure hope Han isn't going to be at this ball. I don't think he's going to appreciate Janson, some practically his own age, going out with his daughter. But it's sure going to be amusing. I have the feeling Janson isn't going to make it easy on Jaina one way or another.
