I'm studying for my (1) driver's license, (2) chemistry placement exam for college next year, and (3) real estate license, so I'm kinda being buried under far too much stuff for summer vacation at the moment. O_o Going to call sanctuary, Hunchback of Notre Dame style, on all the comments (but that picture = whoa) for the moment, at least until I get caught up to everything else. Figuring that, at this stage, fic > response. Don't kill me? ( In the meantime, quick post. Find all the allusions in the first paragraph, and I shall award you with a cookie. Following this looks like theological discussions of the Force and how it affects people, the light and dark, and a short discussion of family. It gets longer by the second, I swear. O_o hits self Just for the record, there are very, very few things that shock your friendly neighborhood psychiatrists. After a few years nodding at the average patient on the couch, you get everything from mythically based sexual conflicts to confessed childhood fears of insane killer clowns hiding in the sewers to unhealthy obsessions with intergalactic sports featuring four balls and players mounted on flying phallic symbols. And compared to the general strangeness of some of the conversations I'd had with people sitting on that couch, the Jedi Master's subconscious slip perhaps didn't leave me as frightened as it, perhaps, should have. Raving lunatics are scary. Sociopaths bent on blowing up Coruscant are scary. Hell, most sports fans are pretty scary if you insult their team. Next to that, the galactic golden boy's monosyllabic slip really isn't all that bad. Maybe it wasn't my most intelligent conclusion ever, but it was my first time dealing with a Jedi; next time, I'll know better. Sweet Force, I hope there's no next time. Not only would the galaxy probably collapse as a result, but I think my libido would explode if subjected to this for a second time. Because, you know, that'd be a cryin' shame. So though he was obviously disconcerted by the last exercise, I was somewhat less than distressed. Quite simply, I'd heard worse. I pulled up a new screen on my datapad. "So what can you tell me about the Force?" He blinked, almost comically. "The Force?" "The Force. You know." I waved my hand vaguely. "That mystical energy field thing that connects all living creatures? Or that's what they always told me. I never actually, you know, had a confirmed sighting." A thought sudden occurred to me. "Unless you're under a vow of silence or something," I added quickly. "Um, I guess that happens sometimes with some people and some religions?" He laughed. "I know. No vow of silence, I swear. Sorry. It's just not often that people actually ask me," he explained with a shrug. "I don't really know what to say." "Huh. I can't imagine why people wouldn't ask you more often. It seems like one of those ideal second date questions." Oh Sith. Did I say that aloud? Apparently I did, because he was looking at me at me like an Ewok in front of a rancor. "Um. Excuse me?" When all else fails and you know that things can't possibly get any worse, babble as if your life depends upon it. "You know, second date questions," I elaborated desperately. "Those are the ones you can't possibly ask on the first date because you're too afraid of scaring off a potential Mr. Right with things that might lead to an argument. So you stick with small talk on the first date and save the more polarizing questions for the second date, after you know if you've clicked or not. Religion, politics, affirmative action -- you know, that sort of thing." Guess things could get worse. His eyes widened even more, something I wouldn't have thought possibly a few seconds ago, and he seemed to be surreptitiously seeking looking for an exit. The window, though, was a thirty-four story drop, I could have told him, so he probably wouldn't have had an easy time going through that, Jedi skills or no. "Um. Not that, you know, I'm trying to give date advice or anything. Uh. Because, you know, I doubt you need it." A pause to rethink that statement. "Not because you don't have dates, I mean! Because you're not, like, horrible at all. You're really quite fine-looking, and I wouldn't mind it at all if -- um. Yeah. Uh. Sorry?" Yes, he was definitely looking for an escape by now. Good job, Kessa. Put him at ease by propositioning him. Whoo boy. Shut up, brain. Now. "I think I'll just shut up now," I muttered. A few more seconds of wide-eyed staring and, to my surprise, he started to laugh. I took another moment to wish that the floor would swallow me up, and then joined in. Well, at least he wasn't depressed anymore. Subject: Luke Skywalker Subject gracious enough to let me babble like a total idiot and laugh it off.
