	And I LOVE THE PICTURE!!!! Did you make it yourself? Yep, I was making Chiss icons for a character-in-development of mine over at a post-NJO RPG. Testing a few actors out, and I just pictured Athan to look somewhat like the pic above. Damn, Kyrn is lucky if she has got all these hot guys to choose from...A very pleasant dilemma. Unfortunately, she is extremely oblivious to their looks. Cem, hmmmm? Well, I must counter that with a Jag one: I mean...he exudes the grimness. And look! His head is even shaved!

	Inara: slaps own hand I have been a bad cyberpal this weekend...in that I have neglacted my shameless praise duties. I'll blame it on those damn kids of mine and leave it to you to be forgiving. There isn't much to be said that has not already been said...your fine readers are astute and seem to be picking up on all the beautiful subtlies you layer your fics with. I do continue to feel sorry to Athan. This poor schmuck was just looking for a good match and he stumbled into the mess that is Shawnie/Jag/Jaina. (I include Jaina because I believe you have said she will show up and that can only complicate the situation further.) Anyway, Athan was just looking to make a match that would further his own personal position in the Ascendency and, out of no where, comes Jag and his sexual frustration and his emotional contamination of Shawnie. Shawnie, by the way, is fast becoming one of my favorite characters in fic (fan or pro) as a result of your careful sculpting and refining of her personality. It really amazes me that you have developed Shawnie, Jag, Cem and (in AHP)Jaina better in these two stories (and in only three months)than LFL has done in the past five years. Of course I can't respond without addressing the big scene between S&J. As has been stated before...how typical of Shawnie to want to face this head on and how heartbreakingly naive she is to think that this is going to solve the problem as she perceives it. Despite what was written at the beginning of this post...I really don't know what is coming and I fear for her personally and the relationship because I can't imagine that you are going to let them off the hook with just a roll in the hay...so to speak. As much as I have been a J&J'er for a while, and for that matter a TK&J'er, I find that with your stories I am much less interested in the canon coupling and more absorbed by the story. In fact it was your forward in AHP (where you said that the usual reasons for the demise of Jacen's and Jaina's relationships; that Jag and Tk were to grim or that Kyp was to...something and that these were uninteresting and simplistic) that origianlly drew me in to read your work and I have been so captivated by your plots and relationships that I find myself much less concerned with who any of these people end up with at the end, but obsessed with what they are telling themselves and eachother whilst having these relationships. 	Thanks for the pm! Shawnkyr this is a bad, bad, bad idea. It will be interesting to see what happens next. As to your J/S question – Human alien pairings do not bother me. As you and I have discussed before, Star Trek has used that topic many times, before Star Wars did. I don’t have a problem with it as long as the couple is compatible, for instance I would have a very difficult time with a human/insect pairing. I have no problem with a pairing like Face and Dia. As far a Jag goes though, I am very attached to a J/J ship. In the same way that I cannot image anyone else for Luke but Mara. However, Dark Nest throws everything out the window, so that is probably why this pairing is possible for me, in this context. -----signature----- "Bugs!" Han groaned and shook his head. 	Uh, Inara, I just want to let it be known that I have been totally on board with the Jag/Shawnkyr thing from the beginning. I'd always wondered if she had a thing for Jag or not, because their relationship was entirely too un-Chiss, in my opinion, and romantic feelings are definitely one thing that would lead a person to sort of compromise on their culture (i.e., even in the profic, Shawnkyr seems to be more loyal to Jag, in the end, than to the Chiss themselves). And in this 'fic... well, let me just say that you've captured my imaginations perfectly. I find this to be more believable and more acceptable than some Jag/Jaina pairings, because it stays true to his character. Plus the whole brushing-the-hair-out-of-the-way thing is perfect. Definitely one of my favorite catalyst-for-romantic-feelings scenes ever. The last post was eerie, somehow. I guess now that Shawnkyr's offered, I'm a little breathless for anticipation. I'm guessing that Jag will accept, but hoping that he doesn't. If that makes sense at all. It seemed like that to me as well!! I didn't intend to start a J/S ship with this story(though I'm not complaining if it has ). I just wanted to delve into the world of complex friendships, and in my eyes, Jag and Shawnkyr have the most complex friendship of all. They are separated not only by race, but by politics, ideals, and their gender. And they are still friends. In DJ, Jag told the Baron that Shawnkyr was a true member of a renegade phalanx and would follow him into war; that he could not stop her even if he wanted to. Later on, she admonishes him, he listens. And finally, on Borleias, she remained with him despite her reluctance and extracted from him the really depressing promise that if she died, he must return to the Ascendancy. Whether there is something else there or not is speculation, but it does speak of a very deep friendship that reminds me of Corran and Elegos A'kla, two others who were also close while being vastly different. Anything more overt would have been out of character. I'm guessing that Jag will accept, but hoping that he doesn't. If that makes sense at all. As promised, here are my answers to the questions I posted. I'm okay with inter-species relations as long as they are compatible. So I can see Falleen/human but not Hutt/Bothan. The way I see it is like this: Not only is it canonical, but many books deal with attraction between species. Even those that ended up with members of the same species, they were still attracted to non-humans at one point (Leia's attraction to Xixor, Wedge's attraction to a Twi'lek dancer, Gavin's to Asyr's, Aayla Secura's interest in Kit Fisto, Corran's to the Selonian, etc.) It's safe to assume that sexuality isn't constrained by biology. But even though there are many mentions of admiration and attraction, very few alien/alien relations actually become permanent. If it isn't biology, then it most likely is lifestyle that limits interspecies couples. As for ships, I liked the J/J ship during the NJO, but now...I don't know. DN has made me realize that there are no absolutes in pairings. Luke had relations with Shira Brie, Akanah, Callista, and he also cared deeply for Gaeriel Captison - all before he married Mara. Wedge was in love with Qwi Xux before marrying Iella (a person and an idea that belongs to Michael Stackpole). It's what the author wants that makes the cut, not the readers. We all have interpretations of canon characters, and mine has always fluctuated regarding Jaina. I like her character, and I feel like she has a lot of potential, and if she would stop for a minute and actually think about her actions as opposed to acting impulsively, she might become one of the greatest Jedi. For me, the J/J ship started weakening in Dark Nest. I don't know what Denning has up his sleeve for TSW, but so far the J/J ship is disappointing for me, and I can longer buy it unless something changes drastically. If Jaina were to change a little, and if Jag were more accessible, then I'd be all for it. In terms of Jag, I think his background is amazing, and I wish that the authors would develop him beyond his relationship to Jaina. In NJO, he seemed to exist for the sole purpose of being Jaina's boyfriend, and it made him less of a character. I'd like to see him grow on his own for a while, because like Jaina, I think he needs to figure himself out. It's why this story is pretty much about Jag more than anyone else. Well yeah he never will be forgoten if you make it TUQ style. Add one line and you can say he is mentioned. No developement of character but he is in the book. 	Aw, thanks, Inara, Rebel-at-Heart. This world would be so depressing (or more so. ) of not for kitties, no? Pardon the quality, they were taken with my phone. Inara I your cat, Gloria! I've actually done that, believe it or not, though. The cat will have fallen alseep on my bed, and I just can't bear to wake him, so I snatch my pillow and blanket sleep on the couch. I get strange looks in the morning when the family asks why, though, even more so once they find out the reason I'm on the couch. And what Chimpo_the_Sith said. I'm almost tempted to not even go forth with Post-NJO Lit. Jag is probably my favorite EU character (or very high on the list), he was one of the biggest reason I stuck it out with the NJO. I mean, I stopped reading TFP because of the eye color typo. Though (don't hurt me! ) I actually kind of prefer the eyes blue now. There are so many green eyed people in the books already.. But I actually expect something decent to happen with those two in TSW. Don't know why, maybe I've suddenly become an optimist. I had to quote it all because I liked everything you said. Yes! Jag and Shawnkyr have a very complex friendship, and that's why I get so confused by the fact that it's almost entirely ignored! We get little hints here and there of how deeply they trust each other and are loyal to each other, but even in fanfic we don't get a lot of Shawnkyr/Jag friendship depth. The reason I keep saying that this 'fic is so realistic is because you take into consideration more than just what the profic gives us. You've taken the time to think about every part of the background of each of these characters, including their racial and cultural and gender and personality differences. It's realistic because this is the stuff that comes up in real life--only Star Wars-ified. Friendships are complicated, and people are complicated. It's nice to see the same sort of stuff get dealt with here. I think that the Star Wars universe has a lot of very interesting relationships between characters. The romantic ones are popular, of course, but I'm actually more fascinated with the various examples of deep friendship we see. I, for one, thought that Luke and Mara (pre-togetherness) had a very complicated friendship, and it was nice to see Luke get some character development alongside someone else, rather than alone. Zahn did a great job giving Mara a place in the galaxy; if nothing else, she was Luke's friend. And then the dimwitted farmboy had to fall for her. Though I think Mara might have fallen for him first. Han and Chewie have a fascinating friendship/partnership, too. The life-debt thing only goes so far in explaining their interactions, because when you get down to it, Han without Chewie is really, really hard to imagine. And yes, I was one of those people who threw Vector Prime at the wall when Chewie died. It seemed like such a frustrating end to a friendship that was taken for granted. My favorite friendship of all, though, might be Wedge and Wes. You can include the other two members of the Big Four, but we see the most of Wedge and Wes together, probably, because they have an awesome friendship. We never have doubt that Wes is loyal to Wedge (and vice versa), and that their relationship is way more than just CO/XO or that of squadronmates. Tycho, Hobbie, and Wes--but especially Wes--are Wedge's brothers, much more than Soontir Fel is, that's for sure. I adore the X-wing books, not just because Wedge is the BEST CHARACTER EVER, but because we see so much of his and Wes's interactions (especially in the Wraith series and Starfighters of Adumar). And I definitely, definitely like the friendship that Corran and Elegos form in I, Jedi. I find that their interactions more or less drive the second half of the book, and when Elegos goes to talk with the Yuuzhan Vong in the Dark Tide series, I really enjoy seeing the bond he and Corran have together. And in the middle of this friendship hall of fame we have Jag and Shawnkyr, because in spite of getting shafted in profic, and greatly helped by your stories, I LOVE their friendship with each other. Red Sky, Blue Flame is such an interesting story when you really think about the implications of everything in it. That's why I'm glad you're writing this. It gives both Jag and Shawnkyr and their friendship with each other the depth it deserves. Now, to write down ideas for more friendship 'fics.... 	I know what you mean. I haven't even read the book yet, but what I read in the spoiler thread was enough for me. 	Bravo, Bravo, Inara, an excellent couple of posts! I adored Shankyr's discussion with her fatehr, the un-emotion analytical observations and the decisions she's considering.... The second post had my jaw on the floor. She's actually propositioned Jag! Oh. My. Lord! You go girl! laughs On a more serious note, I have to say I'm concerned for the J/S ship because Jag I think has more... what did her father say... honor? than to risk his friendship, what's left of it, with her by sleeping with her. That's my opinion I like Jag in this, though I still say he's no pair for Jaina with Jaina being the Alpha Shawnkyr at least can match him and let him be the Alpha without de-manculinizing him. I know, that's not a word... The tension in this is wonderful, and I adore Athan... I'm very much looking forward to the next post to see what Jag decides... personally I think he should send Cem with a letter of apology grin On that note, sorry for not responding sooner...
