She knows! And she wasn't all that responsive...must be a Chiss thing.
Wonder how Jag's going to react when he finds out Cem spilled his secret.
Wow, I'd love to get one of those Fel Special Massages.

Cem spilled the beans!
Ack! Jag's going to have his head as a trophy, unless thigns work out for the better... I hope he doesn't kill Cem, Cem is far too entertaining!
Hmmm... the plot thickens and Shawnkyr will "address" the issue with Jag at a convinient time... That's a conversation I'm looking forward to.
Excellent post Inara, I loved the massage description and the whole thing was great! You're doing wonderful with the characterization of the Chiss, Shawnkyr and all... Bravo!

You are slowly but surel turning me into a J/S shipper. That is if Jaina's not around of course
Always happy to make the Shawnkyr club bigger
And don't worry, Jaina will be coming soon
Chimpo_the_Sith:
Hmm Jag must be really depressed after Jaina left him that he has such obsession over Shawnkyr...
Love does strange things to people, that's for sure
TheCrazyRodian:
Oh no. I don't see how this can turn out happy.... Damn relationships! They are too complicated.
They really are! Especially when a Chiss is involved.
Lola64:
And all I have to say is: Where can I get a back rub like that?
I'm trying to get tickets to Csilla just for that.
You're writing is amazing Inara. And this storyline is great.
Thanks!!
jags_gurl:
... this better not end like that...
Only love for our Jaggy...
Cem, you're a loser! I'm never trusting you with ANY secrets...
He's such a little brother...but a well-meaning one. Hopefully it will work out!
Jag is gonna kill Cem - I would too...
Good thing Kyrn is around to protect Cem
You've got me hanging on the edge of a cliff here - when can we expect a resolution ?
Very soon. There's not that many chapters left - this is definitely not the magnum opus that AHP is turning out to be
Uriden:
I liked how Cem skirted around the issue, and only finally caved. It had to be said, so I would hope Jag doesn't try to beat him to within an inch of his life.
Sometimes the best thing is to be honest, and Jag's silence just wasn't helping matters. Hopefully Jag's Corellian blood won't get the best of him when it comes to retribution...
P.S. As much as I'm enjoying both of your major fics, I'm really hoping for at least one happy ending of the two. I love relationships that just end brutally just as much as the next person, but a little bit of mutual understanding and a "tender" resolution couldn't hurt
Just for that, I'm going to kill off a bunch of people in the next chapter...just kidding
Seriously though, this fic will have a happy ending. Having been raised on Disney movies, I'm actually quite fond of them. In regards to AHP's darker nature, blame Denning.
It's all his fault for making his characters to depressing.
Now I have to pick up the pieces...
JadeSolo:
She knows! And she wasn't all that responsive...must be a Chiss thing. Wonder how Jag's going to react when he finds out Cem spilled his secret.
Shawnkyr, poor girl, is in a lot of shock. She's completely unfamiliar with such emotions and is having a hard time dealing with it. Hopefully, understanding will prevail as these two people cross into very unknown territory, since there has never been a Chiss/human relationship before...
Jade_Max:
Ack! Jag's going to have his head as a trophy, unless thigns work out for the better... I hope he doesn't kill Cem, Cem is far too entertaining!
Don't worry, Shawnkyr will protect Cem. And I agree - he's turning out to be one cool cat.
Hmmm... the plot thickens and Shawnkyr will "address" the issue with Jag at a convinient time... That's a conversation I'm looking forward to.
Me too! It's really fun hypothesizing how such a stoic culture deals with emotions of this kind.
I loved the massage description and the whole thing was great! You're doing wonderful with the characterization of the Chiss, Shawnkyr and all
Thanks!! The Chiss are too cool to be ignored, as is Shawnkyr, who, along with Pash Cracken, is completely overlooked.
Expect another chapter this weekend!

No, they're gonna do it, then hate each other for it, and the story's going to end with a complete break in their friendship. That's how it happens in the real world, and that's how it's gonna happen here. I just feel bad for Jag and Shawnkyr. Too many awkward social pressures to overcome.

wow. this story is great. the back-rub scene was intense, and not just because some of us wished we were on the receiving end of it
.
i think i like this so much because i can understand jag's feelings in this situation, plutonic friends will almost certainly reach a point like this at least once during the friendship. its almost always an awkward situation. . . .
keep up the good work

Very true! It's one of the reasons I wrote this pairing - to see how two such different cultures could deal with this.

The question is, can Jag and Shawnkyr overcome this bump? Or what if they decide it's worth pursuing? Either way, they are in for a lot of trouble..

I can't wait for the next part, I'm so excited about this pairing... Inara, I may have to ask to borrow your conclusions about Chiss culture for my own fic eventually...
J/S is a great pairing, again, I only hope she lets him down easy

I'm glad! It's such a classic situation - guy falls for his friend - I'm surprised no one else has broached it.
Inara, I may have to ask to borrow your conclusions about Chiss culture for my own fic eventually...
I would be very honored!

Easy way?
In one of my fics?

~ Jag acts unwisely ~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The silence of a woman always tells more than a torrent of words.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Cselarn
Shawnkyr was in a bad mood.
She was
never
in a bad mood. Bad moods meant uncontrollable bouts of emotion and logic, and what self-respecting Chiss would allow herself to be subject to
that
?
As the senior staff meeting continued at an infinitesimally slow pace, Shawnkyr allowed her eyes to drift to her commanding officer. Jag sat at the head of the table, his eyes fixed on Lieutenant Colell’s presentation. He looked very tired, his normally alert blue eyes faded, his ramrod straight posture slightly hunched.
Jag, what has happened to us?
she asked silently.
As if hearing her question, Jag looked in her direction, and seeing her stare, he flushed and looked away.
The past few days had been fraught with tension for Shawnkyr. Not only was Athan being hostile, not overtly hostile, naturally, but in his usual subtle way, she was also feeling awkward after Cem’s confession of Jag’s feelings.
Shawnkyr had been friends with Jag and his human family for nearly half her life, but she still lacked a fundamental understanding of them, and she did not know how to address the situation.
Where before Shawnkyr would tease Jag, exercise with him, and simply indulge in his company, now she was not sure if it were a good idea. She did not want to encourage him in his infatuation – and that was what it must be – surely Jag would never love a Chiss; surely he knew better than to entangle himself emotionally with a race that shunned excessive emotion.
Yet in attempting to spare Jag hurt, she was starting to hurt herself. She supposed, in some way, that she
did
love Jag. What else could account for their strange yet so very strong bond? She had despaired when he had been posted as the CEDF’s ambassador to the GFFA. His long absences from Ascendancy territory had left her feeling bereft of his companionship. And Shawnkyr had been dismayed when Jag’s relationship with Jaina Solo had become serious because he had grown distant from her.
However, she had no idea what all this meant. Cem, by exposing Jag’s emotions to her, had made her confront her own. But she also knew that she did not return Jag’s feelings, that she could never do so. It simply was not in her nature. Shawnkyr might be the only Chiss in the Ascendancy to care so deeply about a human, but the fact remained that she was still Chiss in her outlooks, goals, and needs.
“- dead Killik hauler needs to be explored.”
Colell’s words jolted her out of her reverie.
“It might be best simply to destroy the ship,” commented Carnen. “What do you think, Commander Shawnkyr?”
What ship?
she wanted to ask. Too embarrassed to admit that she had not been listening, she met Jag’s gaze in panic.
She was completely lost.
And she was
never
lost either.
Thankfully, Jag came to her rescue. “The drifting Killik hauler has shown itself to be devoid of all life, and as loath as I am to go on board, if rumors of their hyperdrive capabilities are true, then it does bear investigating.”
Her composure restored, she nodded in agreement. “Yes, it is prudent to determine how the Killiks are moving around so quickly. But we should have an assault team make up the most of the boarding party.”
“That is a good suggestion,” said Jag. He nodded towards the
Cselarn’s
security chief, Urnal. “Please assemble seven of your men to accompany another five from my staff.” He pursed his lips. “I will be going aboard – yes, I know that commanding officers are not supposed to lead boarding parties, Carnen,” he said patiently in order to forestall his executive officer’s protest. “But I need to see what is on board that hauler.” He looked around the table. “Colonel Athan, your presence would be most welcome, but as a visiting officer, it is your prerogative.”
Athan inclined his head. “I am most eager to see what is on that ship, Commander Fel.”
Jag continued, “I also want Haloran and Nevra from engineering.”
“Commander, I would also like to come,” said Shawnkyr.
He stared at her. “Your presence is always welcome, but in this case unwarranted. There will be no flying necessary.” Beside him, Athan also looked surprised.
Her eyes narrowed. “With all due respect, my original proficiencies are in scouting and ground combat. And since I am one of the few who has actually fought against the Killiks in a face to face situation, I think my presence on this mission
is
warranted.”
Jag finally relented. “Very well. Commander Shawnkyr will be the final member of the boarding party.” He handed a data stylus to Carnen. “See that everything is in order for this afternoon.” He looked around briskly. “Is there anything else? No?” Jag eyed all his officers. “Dismissed.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The small Chiss boarding party made a forced docking onto the abandoned hauler. After leaving two guards with the shuttle, the rest of them made their way into the dead hauler. The strange alienness of it caused them recoil in disgust, but they continued forward in the weak gravity environment, walking through corridors covered in sticky, gold wax.
At an intersection, Jag signaled two of the security officers to accompany the two engineers to the engine room. “See what they have down there,” he ordered. As the four Chiss left, he turned to the remaining five people. “Athan, Shawnkyr, Jovan, check out the hanger bay. The rest of us are going to see the bridge.”
Shawnkyr nodded and unhooked her charric. “Yes, sir.” She, Jovan, and Athan made their way down another corridor, in what they suspected was the direction of the hanger bay. This particular Killik ship was Sullustan in origin though its model was nearly obsolete.
As they descended deeper into the ship, the air became thicker with the stench of rot and waste. It was darker here, the ship lights long since burned out. Even the torches the Chiss carried were barely enough to illuminate the grotesque setting.
“What do you think made them abandon the ship?” asked Jovan.
“Perhaps an engine failure?” offered Athan. “Killiks like to travel in groups, so if this ship failed – and judging by its age, it did – then the Killiks on board probably transferred to another ship.”
Shawnkyr looked around uneasily. “It is so quiet here. The eeriness is not to my liking.”
“Nor to mine,” said Athan grimly. “But we cannot risk destroying the ship until we have a look at their engines. We need to know where they are receiving their technology from.”
Up head were the doors to the hanger bay. Jovan went ahead of them and examined the doors. “They have not been tampered with,” was his final assessment. “And the keypad still looks operational.”
Athan leaned forward to examine the small console. “The emergency generators must still be providing power to basic ship functions.”
Jovan lifted his charric and keyed open the door. Flashing his light into the blackness, they saw that the hanger was completely devoid of any ships. Instead, the entire place was filled with waxy alcoves. “Hives,” murmured Athan. “Why would they have abandoned a hive ship?”
“They did not abandon it,” said Shawnkyr with sickening comprehension. “They are still onboard.”
“Not possible.” Athan flashed his light further into the hanger. “Our scanners did not register any life forms.”
Shawnkyr shook her head. “There are some blind spots a scanner cannot read – hence the need for personal inspections.” She expelled a breath. “This is an ambush. We need to regroup.”
Athan opened his mouth to argue but paused at the look on Jovan’s face. “I think it might be a little late to warn the others,” whispered the security officer.
The beam from his torch was fixed on one corner of the room, where a large and hideous shape waited, its multi-faceted eyes gleaming in the dark, its dark blue legs quiescent for the moment. It was surrounded by some smaller shapes, all crawling restlessly across the thick, viscous wax.
Slowly, the three Chiss backed out of the hanger and into the corridor. “Commander Fel,” whispered Shawnkyr into the comlink. “Respond.”
No answer.
“Jag,” she whispered again, her voice more urgent, “Please respond.”
Only silence. Athan started to push her down the hallway. “We need to return to the shuttle.”
“Haloran, Nevra,” she tried. When they did not respond, she tried the two security officers at the shuttle. “Rutha, Casst, are you there?”
“We are still here, Commander,” came Rutha’s voice.
She nearly fainted from relief. Quickly, she told him of her team’s discovery. “Both of you secure the shuttle, and if no one makes it back to you within the next ten minutes, return to the
Cselarn
.”
“Yes, sir.”
Suddenly, insects began to converge on them from behind. Ten blue bodies rushed forward, and within seconds, the three Chiss returned with blue charric fire, all the while backtracking their way back to the shuttle.
Their charrics easily dispatched the smaller insects with their still soft skins. But the larger ones were a different matter. Their chitin was thick and tough, and only repeated shots would bring them to the point of sufficient damage or death.
Shawnkyr soon got separated from Athan and Jovan as she slew or wounded insect after insect, finding that it was easier to work with her pair of vibroblades at close range than her charric. Alternately stabbing, slashing, and slicing, she would barely be finished with one Killik when another would appear.
One crashed down onto her back from the ceiling and forced her to the ground. Knowing that the creature could paralyze her, she desperately twisted around and stabbed at it. But Shawnkyr’s position did not permit her to wound the insect effectively enough to force it to release her. She felt the tip of something pointy at her shoulder. Dropping her vibroblades, she grabbed at the creature’s head with her hands, and with every ounce of her strength, struggled to keep the deadly mandibles away from her flesh.
Suddenly, the insect reared up, screaming with pain. Shawnkyr saw the rise and fall of a vibroblade as it cleaved the Killik’s flesh repeatedly. With only mild surprise, she realized that salvation had come in the form of Jag. What astonished her by far was the ferocity with which he was attacking the Killik. He looked fell and furious, and Shawnkyr almost did not recognize her friend in the implacable killer above her.
Jag kicked the insect carcass off her with more force than seemed necessary. Silently, he reached out his hand to Shawnkyr, and, when the latter took it, pulled her to her feet.
“Your timing was impeccable, Jag,” Shawnkyr said with a rueful smile.
Jag only nodded. But before she could say another word, he swiftly turned and walked away, leaving her to stare after him in bewilderment.
Around the junction, Athan and the five remaining Chiss were finishing off any of the insects that so much as twitched. In the act of slicing through the tough chitin of a Killik, Athan paused to watch the brief encounter between Shawnkyr and Jag. He noted the downtrodden expression on her face and the closed one on Jag’s.
Jag had slain that Killik with almost uncalled for brutality. He wondered if Shawnkyr had recognized the emotion that had driven Jag to such a fury. He hoped not. For Athan had seen that Jag had attacked that insect with all the passion and vehemence of a man intent on defending his mate from harm.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Back on board the
Cselarn
, Jag had sent Shawnkyr to the medical center for her injuries. She had protested that she was still able to attend to her duties, but one look at his grim face was enough to scare even her into submission.
She hated being in the medical center. It was boring, sterile, and as far away from the action as one could get. But, she reflected, as she sat on one of the beds, it was nice to be taken care of for a change.
Athan had stopped by earlier for a short time. Once he had ascertained that she was fine except for a few cuts and bruises, he had left to puzzle together exactly what had happened on that hauler. Carnen had come as well and had faithfully updated her on the situation on the bridge. Apparently, Jag was furious with the officer who had manned the sensor station and had missed signs of the ambush party.
Now Cem sat with her as she waited to be discharged. She suspected Jag had sent him, but this was one secret Cem would
not
spill. “I wish the doctor would hurry up,” she complained.
“Stop whining,” rebuked Cem mildly. “If he thinks that you need to stay here and rest, then you must do so.”
“I can rest elsewhere,” she grumbled.
He raised a blond brow. “As if anyone would believe you would rest voluntarily.” He leaned forward in his seat. “Why do you think they set up this elaborate ambush?”
“Perhaps they wanted our shuttle’s technologies…but no, they would never have gotten anywhere with it. The
Cselarn
would have blown them out of space.”
A deep voice interrupted their musings. “You are supposed to be resting.” It was Jag, who stood tiredly near Shawnkyr’s bed. “Not analyzing intelligence.”
“I have had enough rest,” declared Shawnkyr. “And I would really like to know what is going on.”
Jag came closer to the pair and lowered his voice. “Athan suspects that they wanted access to the shuttle’s databanks.”
Cem looked puzzled. “But they would not have gotten anywhere.”
“They would not need to. When one Killik sees something, it is known to the entire hive.” Jag passed a hand over his eyes. “We do not know what they were looking for, but Athan will find out soon, I am sure.”
Shawnkyr looked at Cem meaningfully, indicating to him that she wished to speak to Jag alone. “Well,” said Cem, “I need to get in at least a few hours of sleep if I am to be on duty at the next cycle.”
Jag nodded as he took the seat his brother vacated. Cem came to stand near Shawnkyr and leaned closer, whispering, “Remember your promise.” Raising his voice for Jag’s benefit, he also said, “Feel better, Kyrn.” Closing the door to her small room behind him, Cem swiftly departed.
She turned to look at her friend. “Jag, I have not properly thanked you,” Shawnkyr said, careful to keep her voice soft.
“For what?” he asked in surprise.
“For slaying the Killik that attacked me.”
“Oh that. It was a small matter,” Jag said dismissively.
“It was no small matter to me,” Shawnkyr remarked. “I might have ended up dead had you not killed it.”
He flushed slightly. “I did not mean to belittle the danger to you.”
“I know. And I thank you for the service. You probably saved my life.” When Jag merely nodded acceptance of her thanks, Shawnkyr decided to be more direct. “Which is why I feel I must return the favor.”
He fidgeted uneasily. “There is no need,” he stated.
“If you have a problem, there is a need. I wish you would let me help you, my friend.”
Jag now looked warily at her. “What are you talking about? What problem?”
Shawnkyr did not fail to observe the quick rise and fall of his chest that signaled his tension. “Your problem regarding me,” Shawnkyr quietly replied.
Jag’s eyes widened. He opened his mouth then closed it when words failed to come forth. Shawnkyr reached out a comforting hand to him but he batted it away. Shawnkyr dropped her hand and waited.
“He told you?” Jag finally managed to choke. “Cem told you?” At Shawnkyr’ slight nod, he let out a ragged breath of anger. “I asked him not to!” he hissed. “How could he betray my confidence?”
“He did it for your sake,” Shawnkyr pointed out in defense of Cem. “He loves you and wishes to help you. Surely you will not hold that against him.”
Jag went still, breathing in deeply in a bid to calm down. “Is that why he left just now?” he asked.
“I thought it would give us a chance to talk,” Shawnkyr admitted. “I want to help you, my friend.”
“Help me?” Jag laughed harshly. “You cannot help me, Commander. No one can.”
Shawnkyr winced at the impersonal address Jag used on her. “You do not know that,” she pressed on. “You have not asked me; how can you know that I cannot help you?”
Jag turned piercing eyes on her. Shawnkyr swallowed hard as she discerned his misery. “Did you not tell my brother that you found interspecies relations distasteful?” he challenged.
Shawnkyr felt heat suffuse her cheeks. She had forgotten what had she said during that conversation so many days ago. It belatedly occurred to her that Jag would have perceived it as a slight and felt its sting keenly.
She chose her words carefully. “I only see someone who is dear to me and in need of my aid,” she said in measured tones. “I will not judge you. It is not my right, and even if it were, I still would not judge you.” Jag turned away, but his despondency was palpable. Shawnkyr felt her heart go out to him. She stood up, approached him quietly, and placed her hand on his shoulder. “What can I do?” she softly asked.
Jag shook his head hopelessly. “What I need, you cannot give,” he whispered. “Leave me in peace.”
“But you are not in peace, and you will not find it,” Shawnkyr reasoned. “Not this way.”
“What way then?”
She sighed. “I do not pretend to understand what drives your feelings for me. If I could assuage them, I would, but…”
“But it is beyond your capacity to bring yourself so low,” Jag said, bitterness lining his words.
“No, not low. But it is not my inclination, and you would know it. I would not hurt you further by attempting something I know is not my preference.”
“You think I do not know that?” Jag pulled away from Shawnkyr’s grasp. His voice had risen slightly. “Why think you did I choose not to confide in you? I will not endure your loathing, Shawnkyr.”
“I could never loath you!” Shawnkyr exclaimed in a hushed voice. “You are closer than friend or brother to me.”
“That, too, I cannot endure,” Jag breathed out.
“What?”
“Do you still not see? You are now more than either to me. Pretending that nothing has changed, that I do not feel differently about you has been a burden I have carried each and every day for three several months. It was a mistake to come here. Your very presence torments me.” There was a catch in his voice that made him sound utterly vulnerable. “I am weary,
Ailen Mel
. I cannot carry on with this pretense.”
Shawnkyr felt her heart constrict. “What do you mean to do?” she asked tightly.
Jag stared out at the wide space beyond the trees. He looked spent, bereft of spirit and energy. “As soon as this assignment is over, I will accept the CEDF post at Coruscant,” he answered. He looked back at Shawnkyr, and his eyes were bright with sadness. “And we shall not have to see each other.”
Shawnkyr gasped. “You cannot mean that!” she protested. “We have been friends for years beyond count. Jag, I do not wish to lose you!”
“You lost me the day I learned to desire you,” Jag said.
“You are a son of Baron Fel; you cannot give up so easily!”
Jag swung around suddenly. His eyes had lost their listlessness. Shawnkyr was startled by the depth of anger and the shadow of violence in them.
“Give up easily?” Jag almost spat out. “You have no concept of what I have done to try and relieve myself of these feelings! The depths I have descended to rid myself of these desires!”
Shawnkyr felt her stomach churn. Surely Jag did not mean... “You have not…” she faltered.
Jag closed his eyes, a pained look on his face. “You must think very lowly of me,” he commented with a dryness that was as acrid as hemlock. He opened his eyes and gazed at her. He took note of the other’s sudden pallor, knew his bluntness had caused it. He sighed. “I care not for random partners. I thought you knew me better than that.”
“Forgive me,” Shawnkyr said. “That was unworthy of me.” She studied her friend with rising anxiety. She felt her guilt rise up like a cloud to choke her.
Remember your oath
. Cem’s plea reverberated in her mind.
“I should not have tainted myself so,” Jag suddenly said. “I sought to erase you from my mind but by trying to make myself desire others, I only reminded myself of what I could not have. They tried their best to make me forget, but how could they when they were not you?”
“Jag…” Shawnkyr had never felt so helpless.
How arrogant was I to think I could solve this problem so easily
, she thought. “I just – I wish I could help.” She saw Jag’s shoulders stiffen, knew it was wrong to broach the subject once more. But in her frustration, she found herself unable to hold back the words. “Is there nothing I can do?”
She was suddenly grasped by her arms and thrust bodily against the unyielding wall behind her. The force with which her back hit the wall was enough to elicit a hiss of pain from her. But Jag was no longer capable of hearing or seeing anything beyond his own misery.
“When will you stop offering what you cannot give?” he snarled, his eyes glittering with barely restrained violence. “The only help I want is beyond your ability to give unless you have suddenly developed a yearning for this!”
Shawnkyr gasped in shock when Jag’s mouth descended upon hers. Unthinkingly, she grabbed at the other’s wrist, for her first instinct was to protect herself and do to him as she would do to any attacker. But Jag broke away as suddenly as he had closed the distance between them, his eyes wide with realization. Guilt, dismay, and grief mingled in their blue depths. “What have I done?” he whispered.
Silence fell between the two as the minutes ticked by.
In the intervening time, Shawnkyr fought to still her trembling. She had never experienced such an assault. Such passion was foreign to the Chiss; she had lived her adult life without experiencing such disturbing feelings. Her lips ached as they had never done before. But more than that, she was shaken by the sheer strength that had been brought to bear upon her.
And why should that surprise me?
she thought woozily. For a human, Jag was immensely powerful. She looked warily at Jag and felt as if a stranger stood before her. She did not know this man, did not see in him the friend with whom she had flown with; did not remember the brother in whom she had confided all her thoughts on Athan. She could not even glimpse the comrade-in-arms at whose side she had fought many a battle or faced danger with. She tried to dispel the shroud of fear that blinded her but failed.
Jag saw the shadow that darkened Shawnkyr’s eyes and felt apprehension and shame engulf him. He cringed inside as he wondered what she now thought of him. But he had to do something. He had to make amends.
“Shawnkyr...?” He reached out hesitantly, praying, hoping that the other did not feel too deeply betrayed. But as his hand neared one shoulder, Shawnkyr recoiled. She let out a shuddering breath and swiftly stepped back out of reach. Her eyes clearly mirrored her fear.
Whatever pain Jag had felt before did not compare with the anguish he now experienced.
I should have gone at once. Now there is nothing left, not even a memory of all that was pure and good.
“Forgive me,” he whispered. And he turned and fled.

I have to agree with Uriden as far as avoiding this story goes (i kinda found the premise creepy...) but i'm attempting it now (during section, no less. Ah, the things I do for love.). I don't have to tell you that you can write well, so we'll see how this goes. I promise to respond, but for now I am lurking like a lurking lurker.

The Empire, she is beautiful, no?
I wonder that Skywalkers always come back to despotism. It seems the only way for them to stay in control, to make sure the galaxy is run right.
Everything I tell you is a lie.

That was so powerful
Inara
. Wow.
If his feelings for her changes him so much then she's not the one for him. Sorry.
But again, wow. Poor Jag. I'm even feeling sorry for Shawnkyr here.
Great writing.
