Rebel-at-Heart posted:I'm having trouble with the idea that parents wouldn't love their children, or is the emotional distance between Shawnkyr and her mother normal or not? Or perhaps the relationship with her father is abnormal for a Chiss family?
Rebel-at-Heart posted:Somewhere someone compared the Chiss emotional state to the Vulcans in Star Trek, perhaps that is what is causing me trouble. The Vulcans were a highly passionate people who kept their emotions under tight control through discipline. Most of the time emotions weren't evident, but occasionally they came through, usually under great duress or illness. The Chiss however do not deny their emotions. Is it just that they don't have the depth of emotion of humans (coldness) or that the emotions are prioritized differently?
