	Well, I'm not actually mad at Avi because she's evil-no, she's not. She's just a 'useful idiot', a person whose actions were taken out of real concern/good will/ idealism, but it occurred that they eventually served the tyranny... " So a group of scientists got together and created a drug you could put into water- diluted that would have that affect on humans." - hmmm, that reminds me of something- Have You maybe read ''A local vision'' (I'm not entirely sure if the title translated into english is exactly this one) by Stanislaw Lem? He described a society that eliminated all crimes, assaults and violence by inventing the viruses of good. They got into everyone and everything and prevent people from doing harm to others (but they didn't block the will to do it, so people weren't actually better. They just couldn't put their evil plans into action). Also in ''Clockwork orange'' by Kubrick is situation very similar. I wonder if you have got inspired by any of those? (I know, situation in Your story is different, cause the drug is actually changing people inner wants, thoughts and reactions, but still... ) But- enough of it! the most important is that your story is really interesting. 	I just found this! Near the beginning I had suspicions that it was Jaina but it seemed too good to be true. Then as I went along it all pointed towards Jaina. Then I get to the last poste and it is Jaina!!!!! Jaina + well writen time travel = I LOVE this!!

	Gleeful Hirina is Tahiri & Riina,--figured that out!! Avi's either a total OC--like in Star Trek--the Q Continuum who were very powerful & could mess around with the timeline--or a very cleverly disguised canon character. Are they really going back to the Clone Wars era? Woohoo. 	::gleeful:: Real replies as soon as I get back home. Tahiri = Hirina Avi isn't evil. She was Jacen's apprentice at one point and so she trusted him. Really, who would have thought that Jacen Solo was planning on becoming galactic dictator? She is nothing like a Q. The Vanaarde thing was inspired by the 'Serenity' movie, although I think I did read those books. It made everyone compliant and more apathetic. They can still do bad stuff, they are just more lazy and content to stay on their own planets and not go anywhere. Her people were never able to develop more than a little past lightspeed travel, not hyperdrives, so to compensate they developed a temporal compensator which was really sending the ships through time to when the rest of the galaxy would expect them to get there. (otherwise it would take them 100s of years to get anywhere.) So Avi pressed the wrong buttons and broke part of her ship, and had the ship Overcompensate the time differentials, which basically pushes you back into time. It's all the machines. What Jaina used was a machine made by an overly Paranoid about safety(cultural history thing- their homeworld was destroyed anciently and they're obsessed with it never happening again.) Vanaarde which made something like an unstable wormhole which he thought might let people escape if they got attacked, or could randomly land you in space, so he never tried it out. The Force used it to make Zekaya-Jaina go into the past. Also Avi is jedi trained but she isn't anywhere near as powerful as Jaina is. She was trained later in life and is in her mid to late thirties at this point. Well I've already written a Kyp part, it may be a little while before we hit it though, a lot of exciting stuff has to happen before we get to it. You'll see what I mean in the next post. I really had to think 'how can I write Jaina's perspective without giving away that it's her?' constantly. Jade_Eyes: Yep, It's Tahiri. Only I couldn't call her Tahiri in the beginning or it would completely give it away, plus I figured the Rinna part of her deserved to be represented in her name. Avi isn't particularly powerful, but she's been trained, before jedi training, with another force sensitive group(think Sunesi, Fallenasi etc) of her people and they use the force a little differently. She isn't cannon, sorry. :P Oh, Avi the historian wants to go back to the Clone Wars, who doesn't in time travel fics? However whether she will get the chance to get Jaina there is another matter. What would be the fun if everything went smoothly? 	A/N: Good News, Chapter 8 is more than 1/2 written and it's coming along quickly-- and action packed. I must decide though, whether or not to kill off some characters in upcoming chapters. Chapter 7 The teenagers loaded into Lowbacca's T-23 skyhopper. They were all fairly tired and ready to go back to the temple. Even Jaina didn't seem too reluctant to leave her pet project for a real meal and the comforts of her room. Tenel Ka sighed as she took one last look at the jungle before entering. "She doesn't appear to be stable, or polite." Jaina rolled her eyes. Why couldn't Tenel Ka ever speak with emotion? She spoke a protocol droid! "I think she was hiding something," Jacen decided while Lowbacca prepared the ship for flight. Lowbacca made a comment about Zekaya not being very friendly, but that some people were like that with strangers. Em Tee Dee made a convoluted translation. "Don't you think it's suspicious that she just happened to run into us, out here, in the middle of the jungle?" Jaina said, hitting the startup sequence. Tenel Ka nodded. "Perhaps she is up to something. We should tell Master Skywalker." No sense of adventure whatsoever, what did Jace see in her anyway? "Tell him what? That Zekaya was acting weird? I think they're aware of that." Jaina snorted. "We'd need something more substantial." Tenel Ka nodded. "It's something we should investigate." Jaina was surprised that TK would take that kind of risk. She made her play to discredit Zekaya. "What was that whole 'the pilot is still alive' junk, how would she-" "We never found his remains." Tenel Ka reminded her. "Even the insane can be wise, from time to time." "And she beat Kyp." Jaina scowled and shook her head, trying to find the right phrasing. "Still, something about her...bothers me, instinctively." It was the weirdest feeling, almost as if- "I don't think she likes me. Everybody likes my jokes, usually," Jacen complained, having been off in his own little world. Jaina winced, and swiveled in the co-pilot chair, deciding to be honest to save him from further embarrassment. "Jacen, I love you, but no one really likes your jokes." "Really?" He asked looking around at everyone, hiding whatever emotion caused his eyes to become glassier and wrinkles to appear on his forehead. Why did I say that? I promised myself to endure them silently, to boost his confidence. "Master Lowbacca wishes to inform you that he finds your witticisms to be predictable and banal." The little droid piped in, and recieved a Wookie whap for his troubles. "We like you," Tenel Ka explained carefully. "But not your attempts at humor, fact." Jacen's shoulders sagged. How else was he to impress the warrior girl? He seemed to be doing everything wrong when it came to girls today. Jaina bit her lip. "So I guess we won't be installing the hyperdrive?" She asked reluctantly, at the same time taking the pressure off of her twin, so he could recover his usual equanimity. "It would not be advisable." Tenel Ka confirmed. Lowbacca agreed, as the skyhopper slowly began to rise. Jaina sighed, and rubbed the back of her neck. It would have been nice to have her own ship. Suddenly, the engine stuttered, and Jaina checked the comm. board nervously. "That wasn't my fault." Smoke began to fill the small ship, as it weaved back down towards the trees below. Lowbacca roared, and his translating droid didnÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t bother to keep up a translation. "We're doomed!" It cried of it's own accord. Tenel Ka covered her mouth to try and keep the smoke out, in the back of the cramped cargo compartment. "Sabatoge?" Jaina translated, trying her best to slow their inevitable crash. "How could someone do that, we're in the middle of nowhere I mean-" "I've got a bad feeling about this." Jacen choked out as he braced for impact. If they hadn't been otherwise distracted, the rest of the passengers would have made a comment about that being another one of Jacen's bad jokes, as there was nothing about their current situation to feel good about. * "Look," Zekaya began. "you can't look to me to fix everything; my family has certainly tried it many times-" "and succeeded." Avi piped in. She hated the girl's enthusiasm, and certainty. She reminded her of the Noghri who had naively followed her mother around, and died for her. "Maybe." She replied carefully. " But people shouldn't assume that we're the solution. It only let-" she couldn't say Jacen. Jacen in her mind was her brother who had been understanding, and trustworthy. Her caution and counselor, her best friend. The sith who looked like him, she tried so hard to think of as separate, because her Jacen couldn't have done all the things that he'd done. Not genocide, torture and betrayal of his own family. No. It was the Sith. For the sake of her sanity, it was always The Sith. "the Sith to infiltrate the Order and destroy it just as surely as, as my grandfather did. No one suspected the son of heroes to betray them." Zekaya paused as her voice cracked. She buried the wave of emotions that followed mentioning her family. Locked it back into her shields. "You shouldn't trust me." "But I do trust you," Avi said simply, stupid. "You could stop the Sith." "But maybe I don't want to." Avi's eyes widened, so Zekaya felt the need to clarify herself. "I'm not ready." It was several moments before Avi said anything. She nodded slowly. "No one should expect you to just bounce back from, from that, and be battle ready." Avi looked down guiltily and played with the datapad in her hand. "I'm sorry for pressuring you. Like Ta-Hirina would, I'll be here to support you, no matter what your decision. I'm sure I'll find something to do here to be useful and assuage a tiny portion of my guilt." Avi fiddled with a datapad in her hand. Zekaya nodded. "Thank you, I'm too brittle to fight yet." She sighed. And her eyes became distant for a moment. Something kept nagging her, something the Jedi masters had said during their interrogation. Was the Force finally giving her a direction? She frowned. "I just thought of something," She announced. Why hadn't she thought of this before? "there are more ways to fight than just using a lightsaber or an X-wing, more effective ways." Avi, while usually bright, looked very clueless. Realization dawned slowly on her face, and with it, a kind of fragile hope. "Mara asked me to prepare them for what's coming," Zekaya said more confidently, and with a certain amount of surprise added, "I can do that." "Information." Avi said reverently. Zekaya nodded slightly, and within her eyes a spark was relit. * He must return to his masters. Those pesky kids had suddenly outlived their usefulness when they had decided not to install the hyperdrive he would need. If he could not fly his own ship, he would take it from those who were responsible. "Surrender is Betrayal." Qorl reminded himself as he watched the ship fall from the sky. Betrayal is Surrender. Those who would oppose the Empire must die. 	Great update! Thought everyone's opinions about Jacen's jokes was too funny: he never knew they were just enduring his attempts at humor out of kindness Avi and Zekaya's conversation about more ways to fight than with a lightsaber--and preparing everyone--can't wait to see what happens with that. And, about your author note: about characters dying off perhaps don't wack Luke or Mara--I'll be too bummed. 	This is fantastic. I just read the whole thread, and can't wait for more. I was so happy that she turned out to be Jaina. Your clues were very good. I thought initially that she was Luke and Mara's daughter, but the OC statement, kept me from making that leap. Jaina's comment about the purple lightsaber sealed it, along with her knocking the stuffing out of Kyp for what he did to her during the Vong war. Very well played. I'd love to be on the PM list, as I can't stand the thought of missing her tell Luke and Mara. Oh yeah, is the other lightsaber Jacen's, or Zekk's? It's about time the guy got a clue and stops torturing folks with them! Giving information, and fighting in a different way, and time traveling somewhere other than ROTS was a major factor in writing this fic. Don't worry, I don't think it will be Luke or Mara who will die, but someone(s) from the YJK books. It depends on how truely Angsty I want to write this. 	Here goes, and I'm actually 'on time'. Chapter 8 Low moans permeated the humid air. Lowie made low woofing noises, his head had been thrown against the steering yoke. Jaina woke with a horrible headache, and eyes that spun. Her legs wouldn't hold her when she tried to get out of her seat, and she collapsed to the floor. She crawled across the remains of Lowie's ship frantically looking for Jacen. "Jace!" He was hurt, and she didn't know where he was! She reached the storage compartment, thinking he might have gone to check on Tenel Ka first. Tenel Ka rubbed the back of her neck, but appeared otherwise well, if disoriented. It took only a look from Jaina, for the Hapan girl to join her in her search. "Jace!" Their ship creaked as it was barely supported by whatever tree it had knocked down. The right side of the ship was half torn off. A new terrifying thought went through her like an electric current-- what if he had been thrown out of the ship during their dizzying descent or impact? Jaina reminded herself that she knew he was still alive, as she forced herself to look out the gaping hole into the forest beneath. * "Look, I appreciate the sentiment that you'll follow me to whatever end, but the LAST thing I want or need right now, is another person determined to die for me," Zekaya said diplomatically, while taking notes on her datapad about Vong culture. "Enough have already." Avi shrugged. "My life isn't worth much." Jaina crossed her arms and gave her a no-nonsense look. " Need I remind you, I've given the means of galactic domination to a Sith, my life isn't worth that much anymore. I'd be much obliged just to stop making the universe worse." Avi countered, shoulder sagging, as if under the heavy burden of guilt. "I may not have learned much as a historian, but I've noticed the trend that people with your pedigree beat incredible odds and save worlds. If I die aiding that, then I won't have died a failure. That's all I want." Somewhere during her speech, Zekaya had become distracted. "What?" Avi demanded. Zekaya pulled out her lightsaber. "My danger-sense is going off, but-" "This ship is shielded," Avi reminded herself. "Right, so, unless the Shadow Academy is here already and intent on this very ship... I shouldn't be getting such a personal threat feeling," Zekaya said more to herself, puzzled. Zekaya did a quick circuit of the ship, waiting for the danger-sense to increase, but it didn't. She found Avi in the cockpit, doing a sensor sweep. "Nothing," Avi commented, concerned. Zekaya's skin crawled as the pre-battle adrenaline flowed. Her knee-jerk reaction was to brace herself or duck. She couldn't help flinching. Avi wore a 'I don't want to say it, but have you considered that you might be crazy' expression on her face. "I'm NOT crazy." Zekaya demanded. "Did I say anything? I didn't say a darn thing." Avi threw her hands up. "I mean, with all you've been through, it would not be unusual if you felt a little paranoid or had a panic attack... But did I say anything? This is me. Being supportive." She tried to wish the feeling away, reminding herself that there was no cause for it. She, Zekaya, was safe. And then the feeling echoed. Like it had, so many, many times in her life when Jacen was hurt or scared. Jacen had cut off their twin bond nearly 15 years ago during the Vong war; she hadn't felt it in so long that she'd forgotten how to identify what used to be second nature. Zekaya rubbed her face vigorously. "Oh," She moaned. "I am SO kriffin Crazy!" "You said it, not me," Avi reminded. Zekaya stood up and headed towards the hall. "No, I know this is going to sound weird- oh I don't have time to explain! I know I'm in danger!" Avi followed after making confused noises. "Not me, ME." Zekaya exclaimed sprinting out of the ship. " Me, stupid, idealistic fourteen- year- old me, and Jacen to boot!" Avi then remembered. Oh, Right, we're in the past. "Oooh." She smacked her head, as Zekaya mounted her speeder-bike. "So, you'd better, you know, save yourself, or you will cease to exist." "You think?" Zekaya yelled, annoyed, trying to sense what direction her younger self was in. Without another comment she sped off. She sent out a wide-band free for all distress signal in the direction of the Academy, hoping someone would pick it up. She sent pictures of her younger self, Jacen, and their friends in danger. We need Help! A disturbingly logical thought passed through her mind unbidden- if Jacen died today, she wouldn't have to fight him in the future, he wouldn't become a monster, and maybe that was why she had been sent here. To murder her brother while he was still innocent might be a mercy. To save him from what he would become, to save her family from him. To save his very soul. A cold shiver of a memory sent agony every cell in her body, before she blocked it out again. * Back at the Academy, Mara sprinted in search of her husband, who looked to others to be lost in thought. "You heard it?" Luke turned to Mara. "You'd have to be force-blind and deaf not to." Mara retorted, but looked as worried as he felt. "The twins don't know how to project like that yet, none of their class do-" He began, jogging with her towards the hanger. "Then who? One of the teachers?" Mara questioned. Luke shook his head. "For a second, I almost thought it was Jaina." Mara pursed her lips. * Groggily, Lowbacca climbed among the nearest trees, searching for his friend Jacen, Jaina's arms around his neck, who had refused to be left behind. Tenel Ka had been left to guard the ship against whoever Lowbacca was sure had ruined it in the first place. He didn't want to think about why someone would want his ship, or more probable wanted him and his friends dead. "Jace!" Jaina screeched. They found him near the ground, unconscious, and bleeding from his chest where he had hit the branches that eased his fall. Jaina was eager to reach him. They weren't the first to find Jacen. "You! Hands where I can see them." Qorl ordered, blaster pointed at Jacen's prone body. "Know this, Rebel scum: if you don't do exactly what I say, he will die." Jaina blinked back the tears, seeing that her brother's legs had been bound with rope. Reluctantly, she raised her hands. Lowbacca did the same. "You are my prisoners," He announced unnessarily, full Imperial body armor protected him. She bit her lip. There was no way she could pull the blaster from his hand before he depressed the firing stud, and killed Jacen. Shame burned her eyes; if she hadn't kept dragging them out here to fix the TIE, they wouldn't be in this situation. Lowie tilted his head down, and Jaina saw a shadow below them move.Jacen began to wake. She leaned down to reach him- "Don't move!" Qorl warned. "He's wounded!" Jaina cried. "At least let me see to them-" When she saw Zekaya approach behind the Imperial pilot, it all came into painful clarity. Zekaya had been distracting them all so her Imperial friend could sabotage their ship. Of course she had known he was still alive, she had been working with him! As if on cue, Qorl began to slowly lower his weapon, and Zekaya's deep brown eyes were filled with malice and contempt as she looked at her defenseless brother. Cold fear filled Jaina's stomach, freezing her in place. "It's over." Zekaya ordered with finality as she stalked forward. "It ends here."
