RE: Replaced (AU, Jaina, Jag, Cem,) Post-swarm war; Jaina has to deal with being replaced
Chapter Two
Jaina woke up to the curious stare of a complete stranger. She blinked slowly, orientating on the flame haired nine year old boy. “Who are you?” she asked, although it came out more like, “Whooorou?”
The young boy stepped closer to her bed, clearly as curious about her as she was bout him. “Ben Skywalker,” he replied evenly. He glanced over her at someone else, and Jaina turned, careening her neck see who else was in the room.
Sitting in a chair several feet away was a strange, tall bearded man. He had steepled his fingers and was watching her with wry amusement. It took several seconds before his face clicked into pure focus. “Jacen?” she mumbled incredulously.
He nodded his head.
“You look . . .” her words trailed off, and she really studied him. His eyes had gained a haunted look after his time in Vong captivity, and it hadn’t gone away during the years after the fighting ended. If anything, the memory of his past seemed to weigh more heavily on him then ever before. “You look worried.” And old beyond your years, she thought silently.
He gave her a tight lipped smile. “Is that so?”
Jaina came to a sitting position, still staring at her twin brother like she had never seen him before. “What’s wrong? What happened?” Mentally, she reached out for their link, forgetting that it wasn’t there. Almost automatically, she tried to feel him through the Force moments later. Both attempts were met with failure.
She looked down at her hands, eyeing a few of the physical scars that she would bear for the rest of her life. Her throat constricted and tears threatened to spill down her cheeks again. They were nothing compared to this feeling of loss. And even worse than loosing her connection to the Force was suffering through an attack by her father and mother.
“So who are you?” Ben asked loudly.
Jaina’s mouth moved, but no words came out. She looked toward Jacen, hoping that he would tell their young cousin that she was his sister. There was no way that he would fail to recognize her. Was there? She thought about her parents, and wasn’t sure.
He cleared his throat as the silence lengthened. “That’s a good question, Ben.” He looked at Jaina with his haunted eyes. “Are you going to answer him?”
She fought back the urge to scream and cry. She had never been this emotionally charged before. “I’m Jaina Solo! I’m your twin!”
“So you claim.”
His words hurt.
“I want to talk with Master Skywalker,” she said slowly. “I –“
Before she could finish her sentence, the door swooshed open and the blue eyed, sandy haired Jedi master strolled in. He had changed almost as much as Jacen had: his face was more haggard and there was less bounce to his step then she had seen - even during the worst parts of the Vong war. It was as if he was carrying the entire universe on his shoulders.
And yet, as he started to speak, he was just like she remembered him, his words soft and soothing. “Good morning.”
“Tell me that you recognize me,” Jaina pleaded, refusing to be calmed by the reasonable tones in his voice. If anyone was going to recognize her, she was willing to bet that it would be Master Luke Skywalker . . . and, hopefully, Jag.
“You look . . .” Luke paused, “Like Jaina Solo.”
Something in his phrasing killed the last visages of hope in her body. She slumped forward, neglecting to hold back her tears.
Luke put a hand on her shoulder. “It’s all right.” He petted her back until her sobs resided, and then waited a few more moments before making his request. “Tell me what happened to you.”
The odds were that he would never believe her story, but as a Corellian, she wasn’t supposed to have much use for the odds. She told him her story, starting with her capture and ending with the present.
Luke listened to everything in silence and then nodded his head, as if he was enlightened. “I think I know what happened to you.”
Jaina blinked. “I just told you what happened to me.”
Luke motioned that she should let him continue. “At the end of the Vong war – a few months into the reconstruction – a team of rouge Vong attempted to capture or kill Jaina Solo. With the help of Masters Durron and Hammer she was able to fight them off.”
“I hadn’t heard about this,” Jacen interrupted.
“You were in hermitage,” Ben said quietly. “Stop interrupting, I’m trying to listen.”
Luke cleared his throat. “The Vong were definitely aiming to capture if at all possible. I suspect that they planned to have you replace Jaina Solo; however, because she got away and you never broke under their torture, the plan was scraped.”
Jaina started to shake her head. “No, no, no, no, no! That’s not what happened Uncle Luke!”
Luke smiled sadly. “They brainwashed you and overwrote your memories. They did almost the same thing to Tahiri Veila.”
Jaina looked at him, a helpless look on her face.
Luke, mistaking the look for one of confusion, quickly added to his last statement. “Tahiri is one of the Jedi who trained on Yavin. She trained with the youngest of the Solo children, Anakin.”
“I know who she is!”
Luke didn’t seem sure, but he sensed that pursuing the matter would not be profitable. “Speaking of Anakin, after his death there was an attempt to replace him with a young –“
“Uncle Luke . . .” Jaina pleaded, cutting him off. “You have to believe me. The person you think is me is really a Vong!”
Luke paused before speaking. “I do believe that in time – with help – you will recover what the Vong have taken from you. If you like, you may stay here on Ossus at the Jedi temple.”
He was trying to be compassionate and understanding. He was falling completely short of what she expected of him. However, he had stopped talking about Anakin, which was still a somewhat sore subject with her.
“I’ll leave you to get some rest.”
Jaina swallowed back her protests about the Vong impersonator. “What happened to Mom and Dad? Are they still here?”
“Han left on a mission for the Jedi Council, and Leia is currently on a training mission with Master Sebatyne.”
Privately, Jaina was devastated that she had been attacked and captured by her parents . . . and then left behind. For the first time, she wondered if this widening gulf between them and the whirling circles of pain and loneliness in her chest was anything like her parents had felt when she had pulled away from them.
Had she caused a rift like this to grow up between them?
“Get some sleep,” Luke urged. He patted her leg softly and turned toward the door. “Will either of you be coming?” he asked Ben and Jacen.
Ben looked at Jacen, who shook his head – indicating that he planned to stay. Ben said, “I’ll stay with Jacen.”
Luke smiled and left the room.
Jaina slumped back in the bed she was lying in and closed her eyes. A Jedi deep breathing exercise flittered through her mind and she began it without the Force.
“You’ll be okay,” Jacen said. “You don’t really want to be my sister anyway. She’s . . . stubborn. Self-centered.”
“I always was,” Jaina retorted, and then thought about the last part. Had she been self-centered?
He patted her leg. “If you want to call yourself my sister, I won’t object. I’ll call you Jay.”
“I will too,” Ben piped up. “And you can pretend to be my cousin.”
Jaina didn’t know what to say to that.

This is an amazing story and I can't wait for more.
The uncertainty that everyone feels towards Jaina is apparent. My heart goes out to her though...having her parents referred to her as Leia and Han. Not "Mom" and "Dad". She is just as confused as they are.
This can only get worse...until the light hopefully shines through.
I'm really excited about story!

RE: Replaced (AU, Jaina, Jag, Cem,) Post-swarm war; Jaina has to deal with being replaced
First, apologies to my missing two chapters.
Don't worry. I've taken the appropriate time out.
Now, onto my review.
I cannot tell you how much I'm enjoying this story. Reading that it was the imposter (or was it really?) that was joined has just made my millenium.
What I wouldn't give for it to be true in profic. I'm just saying.
I feel so bad for Jaina. You'd think that her parents or Luke would send for JainaTaat and compare the two side by side. Or is that coming and I've just jumped the gun?
Someone out there has to believe her. *coughJagcough*
“I will too,” Ben piped up. “And you can pretend to be my cousin.”
I would have broke down right then when he said that. Pretend. Why don't you pretend to be a nice mannered boy? Ok. I'm done ranting.
So in short, this is fabulous and I look forward to more chapters.

Poor Jaina. I like the idea of this story very much, I completely hated Jaina in DN. (although I'm one of her fans)
Please add me to the PM list.

Thank-you everyone for your support.

Chapter three
The Vong visited her on her second day on Ossus. She was dressed in Jedi robes, her long, straight brown hair pulled back into a low ponytail. She had matured into an adult during Jaina’s captivity. “So it’s true,” she said without preamble.
Jaina rolled out of the bed, wishing she had a weapon of some sort. “Why are you doing this?” she demanded.
The Vong made a clicking noise deep in her throat and tilted her head, as if seriously pondering the question. Finally she said, “Go away. Leave here and never come back.”
Jaina snorted. “That’s not an option, Vong.” Mutely she wondered at the clicking noise. To her, it certainly seemed like a sign that the woman was something less than human.
The Vong recoiled at the name-calling, a revolted look flashing across her stolen features. “Don’t call me that. I am –“
“No,” Jaina said firmly. “You’re not. You are a Yuuzhan Vong imposter who came here to destroy the Republic.”
“I haven’t destroyed the Republic!”
“I’m sure your failure is not for a lack of trying,” Jaina said, bitter disappointment giving her words and acid tinge.
“I’m trying to rebuild the Republic. The galaxy needs –“ the Vong protested.
“The galaxy needs you to stop pretending to be me and give up this charade!”
The Vong’s brandy brown eyes flickered away. “I will never do that,” she whispered.
It was an expected response, but Jaina still felt thrown off by it. “Why not!” she demanded.
“Because . . .” The Vong looked at her hands and then back at Jaina, at a loss for words.
“Because why?” Jaina demanded. “You haven’t completed your mission yet? You haven’t killed and maimed enough –“
“That’s not it!” the Vong exclaimed. “I haven’t killed –“
“Then what?”
“At some point, I realized that I wanted this. I didn’t want to be Khay Don, priestess of Yun-Harla. I wanted to be Jaina Solo. I wanted to be Han and Leia Solos daughter. I wanted to be Luke Skywalker’s niece. I wanted to be Ben Skywalker’s cousin. I want to be a Jedi and know the peace of the Force. I want to be famous and beautiful. I wanted to be everything that you were. I wanted everyone to love me – like they all loved you. I wanted . . .” her words faded away. “I want to be you more than I want to be me.”
“You can’t!” Jaina objected. “You are Khay Don –“
“No!” the Vong shouted. “I am
Jaina Solo
! I won’t let you take who I am away from me.”
Jaina shook her head. “I won’t be taking it away, I’ll be taking it back –“
The Vong shook her head again, sending tendrils of brunette hair flying. “I can’t let you do that.” She looked away and then back again, her eyes flickering around guiltily. Seemingly content that no one was watching, she dropped her hand to the hilt of her lightsaber. “I won’t let you do that.”
The Vong raised her lightsaber, switching on the familiar purple blade. “I am Jaina Solo, and I will destroy you,” she said, her voice quiet with finality.
“I won’t let you take my life,” Jaina said, her voice equally softly. Mentally, her mind was racing. How was she going to defend against the Vong while unarmed? Fleeing seemed like the only option, but it didn’t look so good at the moment. Stall . . . part of her brain whispered.
She edged toward the door, movements slow and easy. If she could get into the hallway, there were tons of Jedi who would know of her plight. And they wouldn’t just let the imposter kill her. “I won’t let you take my family away from me –“
“I want your parents,” the Vong said firmly. She tossed her head airily. “You can have your brother, he hates me anyway. And I,” she said, eyes blazing with sudden rage, “Don’t feel much better about him.”
Jaina reached the door, hit the open switch, and threw herself into the hall inches ahead of the buzzing lightsaber. Rolling to her feet, she charged down a wide hallway.
She heard the Vong charging after her, but ignored the woman.
She ducked through a doorway and found herself in the midst of a group of Jedi. They appeared, at first glance, to be playing some sort of game, and were tossing a jet-ball around. The only problem was it wasn’t a peaceful game.
Quite the opposite. They players seemed nearly vicious in their determination to win. Jaina stared for several moments before realizing that one of the players was aiming a blaster pistol at her.
“What team are you on?” the student demanded.
“Team?”
The student’s eyes widened, and then narrowed. “You’re the referee, aren’t you? Your boyfriend didn’t like getting ‘taken out’.”
Jaina glanced behind her, spotting her imposter helping a tall dark haired – and somewhat familiar - man from the arena. The Vong locked eyes with her and then closed the door. Suppressing a sigh of relief, Jaina turned back to the student. “I’m –“
The student shrugged. “I suppose you and Zekk are practically the same person anyway.”
“What?” The dark haired man clicked in her head and she did a double-take in the direction he had been in. That was Zekk? He had grown . . .
“Don’t play coy.”
“What?” Jaina repeated.
He fired the blaster rather than answer her question. The crimson beam grazed her leg and he grinned. “See if you can stop us from climbing the wall with that burn.” He darted away, reaching a high stone wall and launching himself into the air with a perfect Force-jump.
Halfway up, a dark suited blond haired man slammed into him, driving him into the ground with an excessive amount of force. He pried the blaster from the student’s fingers and glanced at her, a sneer lingering on his handsome face.
He aimed the weapon at the student without looking and pulled the trigger.
Jaina’s hands flew to her mouth at the act of outright murder; however, only the blue arcs of a stun blast hit the student.
The blond man strolled over to her, eyes racking across her disdainfully. “You’re woefully out of shape, Jedi Solo,” he said. “Perhaps you had better surrender now. It’ll be easier in the long run.” His sneer expanded. “It’ll be your finest achievement.”
“Surrender?” Jaina asked dubiously. This man seemed familiar too. Around the mouth and eyes anyway . . . She was trying to place a name to him, but none were coming to mind. Except . . . maybe one blond haired student. The last time she had seen him had been rather young . . .
“Valin Horn?”
His blue eyes narrowed. “Did you just call me Horn?”
Jaina sighed. “Who are you then?”
A tone sounded and the blond man glanced upwards as the words ‘Game Over’ flashed across the screen. Unlike usual, the referee’s score was not put up moments after. “You scored really low –“
He cut himself off and offered a bow that seemed more mocking than sincere to someone approaching from behind them. “Master Skywalker.”
“Cem,” Luke responded, his tone soft and civil as he inclined his head toward the blond. He touched Jaina’s arm lightly. “This is no place for you,” he told her.
“Master Skywalker, Jedi Solo is our referee.”
“Zekk was your referee,” Luke answered.
“Zekk and Solo are practically the same person,” the blond man responded. He inclined his chin head toward Jaina. “Isn’t that right?”
“What? No, of course not!”
He laughed disbelievingly. “Sure you’re not.”
“She is not us!” the Vong screamed. She had followed Luke unto the Skorch field and was glaring hotly at Jaina.
The disbelieving laughter faded away. “Two Solos?” He swallowed hard, an arrogant expression slipping back onto his face. “Which one of you is Jacen, and what have you done to yourself?”
Both females in question opened their mouths, but Luke silenced them with a wave of his hand. “That’s no concern of yours.”
He led both of them off the playing field. Zekk fell into step beside the Vong and clasped her hand. “What’s wrong Master Skywalker? Did we do something wrong?” he asked.
The Vong spoke up. “That girl thinks that she is us. She’s wrong.”
“Huh?” was Zekk’s enlightened response.
“You two run along now,” Luke said, sternly. As they departed he motioned for Jaina to walk with him. “Jaina spent a considerable amount of time with the Kiliks,” he started by way of an explanation.
“Kiliks?”
“Bugs,” Luke said. “Her and Zekk were both affected to the point where they became Joiners.”
“Joiners?”
“They have a hive mind . . . of sorts. It’s nothing you have to worry about.”
Jaina shook her head. “Nothing I have to worry about? Are you kidding me?”
“This is no joke,” Luke said softly.
“If you’d like the full story, have a seat.” They had reached a vast room decorated in soothing whites, grays and blues. Several water fountains created a soothing background noise. Luke sat on the edge of one of the fountains, trailing his real hand in the water.
Jaina sat down. “Tell me everything.”
It wasn’t pretty. For five years, the Vong had worked on reconstructing the galaxy. Then she’d taken off, following a mysterious summons. She’d ended up fighting Chiss to protect the Kiliks. She’d ended up mentally joined with Zekk. She helped stop a war only to start it later. And if that wasn’t bad enough, she’d hurt and possibly killed him.
“But Jag is all right, right?”
“Aristocra Frombi seemed confident that he would be recovered.”
Jaina rubbed her hands across her face. His face was vivid in her mind, his mannerisms quick and precise. She didn’t know how the six years she had been gone had affected him, but she was terrified at the prospect of him being hurt.
And worse, he thought that she was responsible.
