Title: Warped
Author: Kissa
Characters: Jaina, Jag, Anakin Skywalker, Padme, Obi-wan, more cannon characters
Timeframe: NJO – but encompasses characters from all timeframes
Summary: In a final move to take over the galaxy, the Vong unleash a devastating weapon that warps reality. Now Jedi from the old Republic must team up with the New Era of Jedi. Old enemies – Sith and imperial alike – must be re-defeated. And somehow, order must be returned to the galaxy.
Notes: I’ll be writing from several different characters POV. My primaries are: Jaina, Jag, Anakin, Cherith, Cem, Tahiri, Qui-gon, Siri, and Obi-wan. I plan on mingling romance with action. My only ‘set in stone’ pairings are Jag / Jaina and Anakin / Padme.

You can expect to see dead characters from the NJO make an appearance. (Example: lots of Vong, and maybe a few Jedi who died fighting the Vong . . .)

Prologue

Helska, over the ruins of the planet

Yuuzhan Vong priest Tseng Mei stroked his villip to life. A frightening visage slowly came to life as the villip inverted. “What have you to report? Have you succeeded where Warmaster Tsavong Law failed?”

Tseng Mei wanted to lick his tattered lips, but knew that would be a sign of weakness. In all reality, Tsavong Law had left the Vong in a compromised position. The majority of their fleet had been destroyed Ebaq 9, and the great Warmaster himself had been slain at the hands of the jeedai Solo. Victory at this point seemed nearly impossible.

To say that, however, would mean death – a dishonorable one at that. “I have spoken with the gods, and they call upon me to use it.

On the other end of the villip communicator, Overload Shimrra leaned foreword. He knew the dangers of using it as well as Tseng Mei did. Still, they would be prepared for the disorder. They would be ready, but the rest of the galaxy wouldn’t. The so-called New Republic – or as they were calling themselves now – the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances, wouldn’t stand a chance.

As a matter of fact, there was a good chance that their feeble attempts an unity, would be torn apart by the reappearance of foes long thought to be gone. “Do it.”

Tseng Mei bowed deeply and ended the communication. As soon as the villip inverted back to its normal shape, he made his way hastily out of the room and to his command post. “Set course for Vector Prime. We must awaken it.

Coruscant, space

The glittering eternal city of Corsca City glimmered against the blackness of space, but its unnatural beauty was all but ignored due to the furious battle taking place among the overhead stars. Anakin Skywalker narrowed his eye in concentration, slipping behind the droid fighter and snapping off a few bolts of green lasers.

Under his sudden fire, the ship erupted into flames, and he flew through. A small, confident smirk graced his handsome face for a moment as Obi-wan Kenobi, his former master, managed only to graze his target with his own attack.

Flicking his com on he said, “Master, surely you can shoot better than that.”

Unsurprisingly, Obi-wan did not respond.

Knowing how the older Jedi felt about flying, Anakin couldn’t exactly blame him. Checking his scanners, he said – a few moments of fancy flying later – “Master, General Grievous' ship is dead ahead.” He smiled in anticipation of the upcoming battle. “It’s the one swarming with Vulture Droids.”

“Oh this will be easy,” Obi-wan bit out sarcastically.

Then, as they began their approach, reality as they knew it faded. A whirlwind of cosmic energy swirled up around their ships, sending tendrils of heat slipping on Anakin’s back. He hit his com unit, attempting to get in contact with his master.

Static filled his ears. “Artoo,” he began, but with a start, he realized that his beloved astomech droid was gone.

The ship shuddered against the cosmic energy, and then, as abruptly as it had arrived, it was gone. But then again, everything was different.

Coruscant, with her never-extinguished lights was gone and in its place was a jade grey planet. The clone and droid ships were also gone. In their place were the strangest ships that Anakin had ever laid eyes on. They were lumpy and rocky. The smaller ones seemed to have mini-volcanoes dotting their surface, and from these, they were spitting globs of molten rock at a smattering of strange ships.

‘-kin, what happened?” Obi-wan’s voice abruptly came over the com. “Where’s Grievous ship?”

“I don’t know. Where are we?”

Three of the rock ships peeled away from the main battle and started toward them. “I’ll try hailing them,” Obi-wan said easily. He opened a general com line and started speaking. “This is Jedi Master –“

Abruptly, a larger amount of the rock ships peeled away from the fight – several being destroyed as they turned their backs on the claw-like fighters.

Anakin scowled. Clearly these weren’t friends of the Jedi. But that didn’t matter. He was good enough to destroy them. He reached out with the Force, meaning to get a sense of his opponents mindset – or discover if they were droids.

To his shocked horror, he didn’t sense living beings on the ships. But it wasn’t the same as feeling droids. It was as there was a void in the space where the ships were – as if they were not a part of the Force.

His breath whooshed from his body. “Master, I think we may be in trouble.”

Naboo, plains

Han and Leia Solo were alone for the first time in a long time. Since Ebaq 9, there had been a bit more breathing room in the galaxy. Still grieving for the loss of Chewbacca and their youngest son, Anakin, the two had stolen away from the heart of the battlefront for a few minutes of rest and relaxation.

Leia’s twin brother, Luke, had suggested that they take the break, and Han had jumped at the opportunity. The galaxy was most likely making a turn for the better, and while the war was over, prolonged fighting eventually could wear down the mentality of even the best people.

Both Han and Leia had spent nearly all of their lives fighting, and the break on Naboo – a beautiful planet just off the Corellian Run – was more peaceful then they could have ever imagined.

So peaceful and beautiful that Han was bored out of his mind. “Leia,” he said, clearing his throat. “Any chance that we could rent a Bongo and check out the planet core? I mean, this lounging around and picnicking stuff is okay, but I need a bit more excitement then this.” He flashed her his infamous lopsided grin and spread his hands to the side. “After all,” he said, stepping into her arms, “I did make the Kessel Run in under twelve parsecs.”

Leia smiled up at him. She moved to kiss him, relishing the chance to spend a tender moment with the man she loved. Lately there had been too much hurt in their lives – too many losses and deaths . . .

Their lips inches apart, the sound of blaster fire split the tranquil meadow.

Han jerked away from his wife, drawing his blaster pistol quickly and looking for the sound of the commotion. He didn’t have to look far. Marching across the plain were thousands upon thousands of spindly battle droids, shielded droidekas, and the super battle droids of the old Trade Federation. His mouth fell open.

“It’s not my fault!” he gasped, ogling the approaching army – some of which were already firing . . . at someone behind them. Han’s first thought was that the Yuuzhan Vong had invaded and the people of Naboo had sent an army of droids to fight them.

He whirled around and found Leia staring fixedly at another approaching army. Thousands of white helmeted figures marched forward. Han recognized the armor as that of the clone troopers, the prequels to stormtroopers.

“That’s not my fault either.”

“Let’s go,” Leia said abruptly. “Something’s . . .” her voice trailed off. “Something is wrong.”

“Go figure,” Han murmured. Before they got more than a dozen feet, the two armies were upon each other and the Solos were trapped in the crossfire.

Naboo, Theed Palace, underbelly

She felt impatient and angry. The Vong were on the cusp of defeat, and Anakin’s death would be avenged . . . but still, for Jaina Solo, it would never be enough. In spite of the events at Hapes – when she had shied away from the dark journey she had been on – she still felt the unquenchable thirst for revenge. The only difference, she mused, was that now she was attempting to fight it.

She brushed a strand of her brunette hair out of her face and started down the path to the power generator.

Master Luke Skywalker had sent her to Naboo after her parents, urging her to speak with them – really speak with them – about the turmoil she was feeling in her life. He felt that it was an important step in her healing process.

Jaina wasn’t sure if she had a healing process, but she had come all the same. Upon arrival, she had discovered that her parents were on a private picnic on one of the planet’s many lush meadows. Content to leave them to their time alone, she had set about exploring the city.

It was a mere rumor – but one backed by a dark tint to the royal palace – that had led her into the underbellies of the palace and towards the power generator. Apparently, decades earlier, a Jedi padawan had fought and killed a Sith Lord on the planet.

If nothing else, it was interesting.

Electron walls – crimson red – were opening and closing along her pathway. As she drew closer to the end of the passage, the darkness in the Force seemed to swell. An electron wall snapped to a stop in front of her, halting her motion.

Impatient, she started pacing the floor, her thoughts straying to her rotten luck. For reasons unknown, she was soon going to loose another person that she held close to her heart. Jagged Fel.

Her throat constricted painfully with the thought that the next time she seen him, he would have a Mrs. Jagged Fel either by his side or safely tucked away in Chiss space. Why he was getting married – especially without a single word to her – was beyond her, but it still hurt.

Somehow she had always pictured the two of them being together. Maybe that was just wishful thinking. The electron wall disengaged and she started foreword, still pondering the green eyed pilot.

Her battle-sense, honed by three years of nearly ceaseless Vong fighting, was the only thing that saved her. Her body moved on its own accord, falling back and drawing her lightsaber in one smooth motion.

All the same, the force of the crimson lightsaber suddenly smashing into her violet blade, caused her to stagger back. “What the –“ she began, but a backwards slash from the crimson blade cut her words off.

Dressed in a black leather tunic, a frightening visage met her eyes. A humanoid creature – with small horns protruding from his head and black and red tattoos adorning his body – was attacking her, a sneer on his face.

Jaina leapt away from him, trying to regain her balance, but the Sith didn’t give her a chance. His foot slammed into her stomach, shoving her backwards with bruising force.

Jaina tried to adapt, but the Sith was quick. He slashed at her relentlessly, anger burning through his veins. And she fell back, instantly on the defensive.

This wasn’t like fighting Vong in the least bit. With them, things were more or less equal. They couldn’t sense her and she couldn’t sense them. It always boiled down to who was the stronger fighter. With the Sith Lord, things were different.

He was more than matching her every move. Jaina, with the bulk of her experience unrelated to battling fore-users, couldn’t get ahead.

With a deft strike, he seared her lightsaber handle into two pieces and swung his blade toward her head.

She squeezed her eyes shut, ironically thinking only that she would never know why Jag had chosen to marry someone . . .

**

Ossus

Luke Skywalker’s blue eyes opened. “Something’s wrong!”

His wife, Mara, glanced at him wordless and drew her one and a half year old son closer to her. She too had felt the disturbance in the Force as the Vong creature altered the fabric of the universe, creating tears through which their previously destroyed fleets were moving.

Rather than simply alter the past, their absence was not felt. They simply were replaced, the past events already set in stone and therefore unchangeable. But while the beings leaving the past and falling into the present – their future – were not changing the past, their ability to change the future was astonishing.

With the Vong swelling, Luke had the horrible feeling that once again, the tide of the battle for the universe was going to shift.

**

Coruscant, Jedi Temple

“Fear leads to anger, anger leads to aggression, aggression . . . leads to the dark side –“ Yoda abruptly stopped his lesson. “Happened, something has. Dismissed, you are,” he said to the younglings he had been teaching.

He slowly made his way out of the room and towards the council chambers. The rest of the Jedi Council had already arrived, and were clustered at the viewports. “Come look!” Shak Ti said softly.

Yoda made his way to the viewport. His ancient face shifted in surprise. Stretched across the once entirely city covered planet was a blanket of green, and from the Force, a deepening sense of danger resonated, and a blank void approached.

Very interesting.

Of course one must wonder exactly what aspects brings certain people to this time and what leaves others behind. We know Ep3 Obi-wan was brought forward, but what about Ep1 or 2 or 4? Could we have both Vader and Anakin running around? thinking That should be an interesting fight. devil

Can't wait for more!

This is great. I love the concept. I love the beginning. I'm totally hooked already.

And I just have to say...

“It’s not my fault!”

That is SO classic Han.

Yoda made his way to the viewport. His ancient face shifted in surprise. Stretched across the once entirely city covered planet was a blanket of green, and from the Force, a deepening sense of danger resonated, and a blank void approached.

I can't wait to see the Vong vs Yoda. That will be awesome.

I need to go read your other story's update, but before I go, if you get a PM list going for this one, put me on too.

Thanks. happy

At this point, I think I'm going to shy away from multiple copies of the same character. (Otherwise I'll get confused. But then again. . . I really like the idea of Darth Vader and Anakin. Maybe I'll make an exception.)

jaina_clan_solo

Will Jaina be saved? Yes. Qui-gon and Obi-wan? Maybe. It'll be in chapter three.

SWpants666

Yes. This is very confusing to write. I keep having to go and recheck my facts. On that note, if I get anything wrong, please don't wring my neck. But do let me know. I want this to be accurate.

And anyone who wants on a PM list is on it.

And thus, without further ado . . . Chapter Two

Chapter One: Rescue

Unknown Regions, Space

The three rock-like fighters that peeled away initially arrived first. In spite of not being able to sense them through the Force, Anakin felt fairly confident that destroying them wouldn’t be much of a problem. The true threat would come later, when the rest of the attacking group arrived.

He waited until the enemies were in range of his lasers and fired. Obi-wan fired at the same time that he did, but none of the beams of green laser make any impact on the fighter. It was as if they had been sucked into a black hole and were suddenly gone.

“What the hell?” he heard Obi-wan say, shocked.

“I don’t know,” Anakin responded. He pulled his Jedi Fighter upwards, and then dove towards the nearest rock fighter. “I’m going to try something.”

‘Something’ did not work. Before he could get a clear shot off – at a closer range – his alarms started blaring and he realized that his shields were gone. “Stang!” he cursed.

Thus he and Obi-wan entered into several heated minutes of tricky flying. The situation was dire. No matter what he tried, it seemed impossible to even put a dent in the rock-fighters.

And the rock-fighters – the pilots were flying like they were connected mentally.

His computer pinged, announcing a targeting lock. Stang! He thought again, angrily. Not only was he going to die in strange star system, shot down by a flying rock, but he also wasn’t going to get any explanation of why it had happened.

And he wouldn’t get to see his wife. And she would never know what happened to him. That was, provided that she wasn’t already dead. He hated to admit it, but the surface of Coruscant had looked awful. He wasn’t sure if she had survived Grievous’s attack on the planet.

His anger deepened, and he lashed out defiantly at the enemy ship. Sending tendrils of dark Force energy toward it in a vicious effort to tear it into pieces. But the void in the Force that was the ship refused to allow the energy to touch it, and all he really did was attract Obi-wan’s attention.

“Calm yourself, Anakin,” his master said sternly.

Anakin didn’t respond – or bother to cloak his anger. At this point, they were dead.

Then the claw-like fighters swept into the area. Their forces had been advancing from behind the rock-fighters, picking them off one-by-one. Now with a few stuttered shots, they destroyed the remaining five rock-fighters. Anakin’s com crackled to life. “Don’t worry, Jedi pilots, you’re safe now. We’ve got you, and we’ll take you home.” The patronizing tone in the Clawcraft pilot’s voice made Anakin grit his teeth in frustration.

He reached for his com, about to inform the pilot that he had the situation under control and didn’t need any help from the likes of a smart-mouth pilot.

Obi-wan reached his com first. “Much appreciated. Any idea what those ships were?”

The man responded immediately, sounding slightly surprised. “Those were Yuuzhan Vong ships. Surely the Jedi Council informed you of their presence in the galaxy.”

“No, we were not aware of any Yuuzhan Vong. What can you tell us about them?” Obi-wan asked.

Anakin bit back a snarl of frustration. The Council knew that there were Force-vacant ships buzzing around the galaxy and hadn’t informed them?

The pilot responded. “Why don’t you hold your questions until we’ve got you tucked safe and sound aboard the Deathdealer.”

“Very well,” Obi-wan said. He switched to a private com channel. “Anakin, do you have any idea what he’s talking about?”

“No Master,” Anakin responded.

Obi-wan hesitated and then said, “You must control your anger.”

“Yes Master.”

“You were acting more like a Sith than a Jedi – it’s not becoming.”

“Sorry Master.”

“Try and not let it happen again.”

“Yes Master.”

Anakin’s com chirped with an indication of an outside signal. “Jedi Two you are lagging behind. Catch up,” the arrogant pilot said coldly. “We have better things to do than baby sit a sulking Jedi.”

Gritting his teeth again, Anakin clicked a non-verbal response. Forcing himself to perform a Jedi calming technique, he tightened his formation.

**

Unknown Regions, Deathdealer

Jagged Fel landed his Clawcraft smoothly and immediately got out. The two Jedi pilots had landed close by, and he eyed them coldly as he approached. In his mind, they had to be two of the dumbest Jedi he had ever had the dishonor of meeting.

After all, what kind of idiot announced that they belonged to an order religiously hated by the enemy? As he got closer, he smoothed his disdain over. They were flying older model ships, and both looked like they had seen more then their fair share of combat. They had clearly not known how to fight the Vong, and the inquiry by the less skilled pilot had certainly confirmed that they had no idea who they were fighting.

Still, to the Chiss, ignorance was no excuse.

He stifled a sigh and came to a stop. “I’m Captain Jagged Fel of the Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet.”

The older of the two Jedi bowed his head politely. “Jedi Master Obi-wan Kenobi.”

Jagged’s pale green eyes narrowed. “Really?” he asked, skepticism lacing his words.

Obi-wan nodded his head. “I take it you have heard of me.”

Jag allowed himself a small upward quirk of his lips. “You could say that.” He indicated his head towards the younger Jedi, a dark eyed young man who was glaring at him venomously. “Who’s your co-pilot?”

The man straightened. “I’m Anakin Skywalker,” he said arrogantly.

Jag’s eyebrows drew together in surprise. “And what brings you to the Unknown Regions?”

“We’re not sure how we got here,” Obi-wan said softly. “We were on a mission to rescue the Chancellor and found ourselves in some strange turbulence.”

“You expect me to believe this story?” Jag asked coldly.

“This is no story.”

“Forgive me for not being ignorant.” Jag glanced to his right as Shawnkyr Nururdo approached. “Lieutenant, please tell them when Obi-wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker died.”

The blue skinned Chiss answered immediately, not bothering to inquire about the dubious nature of the request. “Obi-wan Kenobi died at 0 ABY, and Anakin Skywalker – also known as Darth Vader – died at 4 ABY.”

“ABY?” Anakin asked, too confused to really be angry. He could sense that the blue skinned woman was telling the truth. Either that or she was a really good liar.

“After the Battle of Yavin,” Jag answered. “Although, if you want to be completely technical, Obi-wan Kenobi died before the battle of Yavin.”

“I’m afraid that’s not possible,” Obi-wan said softly. He too could sense the weight of truth behind the two black suited pilots’ words, but – seeing as he was alive – that couldn’t be possible.

Before Jagged had a chance to respond, a muscular Chiss shot into the room. “Captain Fel, we just received recall orders to Csillia.” The Chiss licked his lips, a rare sign of nervousness for a usually composed species. “There are countless reports of destroyed Vong fleets reappearing in space.”

“Explain this!” Shawnkyr demanded.

The Chiss shook his head. “I don’t know how.”

While Jagged attempted to discover exactly what was going on, Obi-wan reached out with the Force, attempting to get a good feel for what was going on in the galaxy. What he felt was absolute chaos. People were afraid. People were dying. There was an overwhelming amount of the Force-less void.

But what really threw him off-balance was the familiar feeling of a dark presence. One that he hadn’t felt in many, many years. “Darth Maul,” he murmured. He furrowed his forehead in concentration, trying to get a good feeling for the Sith Lord.

Flickering images came to his mind. A dark haired dark eyed woman lying on a duracrete floor. Padme, he thought. He could see a shadow of the Sith across her body, and practically hear the buzzing of the crimson lightsaber as it slashed toward her throat.

He staggered, the images abruptly gone. Was that a vision of the future? The past? Was it happening now? Obi-wan wasn’t sure. He usually didn’t have visions. They were typically graced to those who thought much clearer than he did – like Yoda for example.

“What wrong, Master?” Anakin asked.

Obi-wan glanced at his former padawan, and almost lied. He knew how Anakin felt about the senator from Naboo. More than that, he knew of their union and the soon to be birth of their child. It would tear them apart forever if Anakin discovered Obi-wan’s vision . . . and they were unable to help Padme.

“I had a vision.”

Jag turned back to them. “Oh?”

This really wasn’t for the black haired green eyes pilot, but it wouldn’t hurt to have him listening in either. “It was Senator Amidala. She was about to . . .” his words trailed off. About to be killed had the wrong ring to it. “She was in grave danger,” he amended.

“Vong?” Jag asked.

Anakin’s dark eyes widened. “What? When?”

Obi-wan bowed his head. “I don’t know.” But that was a lie. The Force was pulsing in his veins, whispering Now . . . And the image of the blade descending rapidly toward Padme’s neck was vivid in his mind.

A dark haired dark eyed woman lying on a duracrete floor. Padme, he thought.
oh, I like that. Maybe they'll be able to save Jaina then?
oh please don't let her die! praying

This was a really good chapter. I really like this. I also like the confusion of Obi-Wan & Anakin as Jag tells them they're dead.
Oh no, Jag, you got a couple psychos on your ship! wink tongue grin laugh
hahaha

And thanks for the PM!

A VERY good post. The confusion that both the Chiss and Ani an Kenobi feel is quite fun. Of course, I must wonder why they did not react when Shawnkry annouced that Anakin Skywalker has an alias as Darth Vader. After all, Darth is a Sith title.

Then again, Obi's vision came at that opportune time to interrupt his thinking on the matter....

Anyways, good job Kissa.

I would like to be on the PM list. Thanks!
