Imperial-hippy
Gr8 post, i hope u sort Anakin out he is really getting on my neves!
Mind u, he annoyed me in ROTS as well, so i guess u r doin a good job portrayin him,
Yay! Thanks. Portraying boardline characters is difficult. (for me) Glad it's working.
It will be funny to see luke lecture him, about his emotions.
lol, you think?
Kyp reminds me alot of reven, with the whole frustration at the jedi for not acting. i never thought about that b4.
I never thought about that before either. Thanks for drawing the comparison.
Oh there's a thought, r u gona bring in some people who r from pre movie time? Like some acent sith lord, or prehaps even reven him self, i love that character. hint hint
As the Vong creature continues to generate the 'warp-zone' the gaps will become greater, and people from KOTR may make appearences.
Jaina_clan_solo
I am so looking forward to the meeting of the Old and New Jedi Council... If Kyp thinks that his council has a hard time doing things, just wait until he comes face to face with Yoda and Mace
::chokes:: Poor Kyp.
Jag and Anakin's interactions are hilarious... there is no love lost between the two of them.
Did you see my signiture? Imagine how much Anakin's going to appreciate an 'anger' lecture from Jag.
More please? I'll try to be patient!
Yes, there will be more.
Kidan
I realized he was on a mission, my confusion is due to the fact that he was abandoned. The Vong would not abandon him. They want him dead. Unless he was already out there, and Tahiri did not give his location out there up to the Vong. Ok I understand now....
Yeah, he was already out there. I won't say more because he'll explain it when he shows up in the fic.
I guess it's a good thing that Caridia is not what I thought it was huh?
Hm. You seem to be on top of things.
After all, its a good story with a great concept.
Glad you like the concept.

Corellian_Cutie
I'm almost tempted to put up the next bit. Unfortunetly, there are two sections I need to check (dates and circumstances of another character being brought back), so I'm going to resist.

::Thanks for all the comments:: I'm still having computer trouble, so the PM list may take some time. Sorry for any inconvience.
Chapter five
Naboo, streets
Jaina blinked, staring at city streets of Theed. When she had entered the palace, they had been beautiful and tranquil. Now there was oily black smoke rising from multiple fires: burning bushes, buildings, and vehicles. Here and there were piles of spindly droid pieces or motionless white suited figures with char marks on their suits.
And the sound of blaster carbines firing was everywhere.
A hollow feeling expanded from the pit of her stomach. She could sense people – real, honest to goodness humans – fighting and dying, but nowhere near could she feel the void-like presence of the Vong.
With the galaxy at war with outside invaders, the time for petty locale squabbles should not be available. This needed to be stopped.
She turned slowly to Qui-gon, who had followed her out of the palace. Pushing away her fears and anxieties for her parents, she took a deep breath and looked at him evenly. “We need to stop this fighting.”
“We will do what we can,” Qui-gon responded instantly. To him, it was clear that the escaped Sith would have to be second priority at the moment. After all, with the city in ruins, soldiers fighting and killing each other, there were more essential things to do. Clearly someone had to take charge here. The fighting was disordered and chaotic, and to his eyes, it seemed that some members of the same group were fighting each other.
How they had gotten to Naboo in the first place was still open for debate. As was, for that matter, the current location of his padawan. He hardly felt that Obi-wan had taken a lunch break. And he was equally certain that his padawan had been right behind him – just a few electron walls behind.
Jaina bit the inside of her lip, aware that it wasn’t exactly the ‘Jedi-like’ thing to do. “We have to try and end this situation peacefully.”
Qui-gon nodded his head. “A wise idea, young one.” He inclined his head towards an approaching clone trooper group. “I will talk to their leader.”
At a brisk pace, the Jedi master crossed the palace square. “What seems to be the problem?” he asked, voice commanding but gentle.
A clone trooper with yellow markings around his eyes stepped forward. “Sir, we’re evacuating the city per your comrade’s orders. The citizens will be protected.”
Qui-gon nodded slowly, trying to digest the news.
“We should get out of the street,” the clone continued.
“Who are you?” Jaina asked, following them into a nearby building that the clones currently occupied.
“Commander Cody, ma’am.”
“Are you with the locale militia?” Qui-gon asked.
“No sir, I am with the Grand Army of the Republic,” he said, just a hint of pride entering his voice.
Jaina could sense Qui-gon’s confusion; however this time he didn’t let it show. “I was unaware that the Republic had an army,” he said simply.
Commander Cody gave Qui-gon a suspicious look. “The army was formed three years ago.”
“I can tell that you truly believe this,” Qui-gon said simply, “So I will not refute it; however, you will have to forgive my skepticism.”
“Understood sir,” Commander Cody said. Privately he was thinking that the old Jedi was probably well on his way to being senile. And his padawan – or maybe she was a Jedi too – looked every bit as confused.
“Now, how are you going about ending this conflict? Who,” Qui-gon asked pointedly, “Exactly are you fighting?”
“From what we’ve been able to determine, they claim to be members of the Imperial Infantry,” Commander Cody said.
“And what do they want?”
“They claim that they are occupying this planet because of hints of a Rebel presence exist. They are,” Cody added dryly, “Claiming that we are rebels against the order of the galaxy.”
Qui-gon was still only mildly perplexed by the situation. After all, he had lived and died in a time of peace. But Jaina, he could see was very confused. Her mouth kept moving, silently echoing the words that Cody was saying, but they didn’t seem to be fully registering on her.
He considered her. From the sense he was getting from the Force, she was still rather inexperienced in the art of the Jedi. Her mind was scattered and her focus easily lost. She was not at peace with the Force. In fact, she was brimming with a low strung anger and impatience that made him think of his first padawan, Xanatos.
He made a note to talk to her later about her training, and another note to talk to the Council about pairing her up with a Jedi Master who could guide her away from her own internal darkness.
Cody checked his com and exchanged a few words with another clone trooper before turning back to Qui-gon. “For the record, who do I have the honor of serving with General?”
Qui-gon’s eyebrows went up at the ‘General’ comment, but he responded immediately. “I am Jedi Master Qui-gon Jinn.”
“And your companion?” Cody asked, hesitating suddenly to even call her a Jedi. She didn’t have a lightsaber clipped to her belt after all.
“Lieutenant Jaina Solo,” she said, leaving off the title of Jedi Knight in favor of her military rank. “Of the Galactic Alliance military.”
She sensed both Qui-gon and Cody’s surprise and could well imagine that they were thinking something along the lines of
’another military?’
She took a deep breath. “I’m not sure what’s going on here . . . But I do know what is going on in the rest of the galaxy, and
now is not the time for any sort of civil war
.”
“Lieutenant?” Commander Cody asked.
Jaina took a deep breath. “Have either of you heard of the Yuuzhan Vong?”
“I do not believe that I have,” Qui-gon said simply.
“No ma’am,” Cody said firmly.
Jaina fought the urge to massage the bridge of her nose. When Uncle Luke had said Naboo was isolated, she had not expected this.
Or the Sith, for that matter
. For a second, she considered how to explain it to them. She could distinctly remember the reluctance of the New Republic when it came to acknowledging that the Vong even existed.
“Who are they?” Cody asked.
“Invaders from outside our galaxy,” Jaina said softly. “They have a massive fleet, hundreds of thousands of ground troops . . .” She shook her head slightly. “There’s no way to really explain them until you actually see them. They hate machines, all their technology is organic. They are obsessed about pain and sacrifice. They hate Jedi with a passion . . .“
“Are they Sith?” Qui-gon inquired as her voice trailed off.
“No. They’re outside of the Force,” she looked at him evenly, letting her eyes harden with the memory of them. “You will not be able to sense them at all.”
“These invaders,” Cody said. “Where is their fleet located?” He was thinking quickly now, his cloned Mandalorian genes kicking into gear.
“Everywhere,” Jaina said, waving her hand. “But their leader, Overloard Shimmra, is on Coruscant.”
Both of them gaped. “Coruscant!”
“They captured the planet. If you went there, you wouldn’t even recognize it anymore.”
**
Death Star, throne room
Grand Moff Tarkin walked crisply up to the Death Star’s throne room. Casting a sharp look at the red robed honor guards, he strolled past them marching briskly until he was five feet away from Emperor Palpatine. “M’lord,” he said, dipping into a narrow bow. “We’ve located the Jedi base.”
Palpatine’s red eyes gleamed beneath his cowl. “Report,” he said, voice gravely. From around his chair, Darth Maul stepped, crossing his arms menacingly.
Tarkin suppressed a surge of annoyance. He remained convinced that the Force was a dying religion and didn’t like the presence of the ‘new’ Dark Lord. It had been bad enough to have to tolerate Darth Vader and his dark side boosted ego. To tolerate the new Sith Lord – the
alien
Sith Lord . . . it was more than he could stand.
But now was not the time for such petty thoughts. “They are on Ossus.” He squared his shoulders. “I can have a course set immediately. It will not take but a single command to destroy each and every last –“
“Don’t be a fool,” Palpatine snapped. “This station may be powerful, but it is nothing compared to the power of the Force.”
Tarkin knew better than to respond, but he remained unimpressed with the Force. After all, it hadn’t destroyed Alderaan. He had. And he’d used this very battle station to do it.
“The power of the Force has already destroyed this station twice. I do not need it to happen again,” Palpatine continued, thinking about the moon-sized station’s destruction over the jungle moon of Yavin. He made a motion to dismiss Tarkin and watched the Grand Moff leave.
Once he was gone, he indicated that Darth Maul should kneel. “The Jedi must be eliminated from the galaxy,” he said. “Go. Kill them all.”
Silently, Darth Maul stood and bowed. Then, with a whisper of his black cloak on the floor, he whisked himself out of the room and towards a shuttle. The Jedi on Ossus were about to receive an unpleasant surprise.
Palpatine waited a few minutes and then returned to the HoloNews Network. The Vong threat that he had long ago perceived had finally arrived, and, as expected, it was tearing the galaxy apart.
That was fine. It would make a nice distraction to his own plans to reclaim the galaxy and bring it back under the power of his thumb. And after his opponents had been eliminated . . . he would unleash Omega Red and kill each and every last Vong.
The Rebel Alliance was too soft-hearted to carry out genocide against the invading aliens, but he was not.
Sifting through some fairly old news reports, his eyes caught the name Skywalker. Thirsting for more knowledge on the one who had brought about his downfall, he clicked on the icon. A picture came up of the Jedi Master holding hands with Mara Jade. And she was wearing a wedding dress. His very own Hand, and she was with his enemy.
She was going to hear about this. He closed his eyes and reached out with the Force.
Mara Jade . . .
**
Ossus, Jedi temple
Mara Jade answer me!
The red-gold haired Jedi Master jerked awake, her green eyes bright under the partial moonlight. Beside her Luke shifted, waking.
“What’s wrong?” he asked, no trace of sleep in his words.
Mara shook her head. “Nothing,” she lied, pulling herself in tighter with the Force, slipping her shields in place. “Nothing.” She felt Palpatine, miles and miles away, demanding that she answer.
This had to be a dream, but it felt so real. She slipped from the bed. “I’m going to check on Ben,” she said softly. “Wait here for me.”
Silent as a shadow, she slipped into her son’s room, checking his peacefully sleeping frame.
Mara Jade, report now!
She looked away from Ben, staring out the window. “I do your bidding no more,” she thought forcefully. “I am not your assassin anymore.”
A low, evil chuckle filled her head.
You are my Hand. You will do my bidding.
Goosebumps sprang up along her skin. “No,” she said firmly.
Kill Skywalker.
Her body tightened, automatically moving to obey. A fire filled her veins. She would serve her master. It was what she had to do. She – “No!” she shouted out loud. She dropped to her knees, putting her hands over her ears as if to stop the sound of Palpatine’s voice.
You
will
kill Skywalker!
The weight of Palpatine’s will drove her back to her feet and she staggered to the door. Behind her, Ben started crying, awoken by his mother. She ignored him, trying to keep her thoughts off of the child.
But Palpatine was in her mind. He knew.
Bring the child to me.
She could feel his delight at the prospect of having a Skywalker child, a blank slate upon which he could input the teachings of the Sith.
Mara shook her head. Had it been like this before? She didn’t remember being so . . . compelled to do his bidding before. She didn’t remember . . . She was holding Ben now, tears running down her face.
Death Star, Level 5 Detention Block AA-23
“What’s your name?” Leia asked, hoping that the conversation would make the time pass quicker. She had been separated from Han the second they boarded the Death Star, but oddly enough had been placed in the same cell as the young woman from Naboo.
“I am Queen Amidala of Naboo,” the girl said, her voice strong. She raised her chin slightly, a determined look gracing her face that reminded Leia of her daughter. “And you are?”
“Leia Organa Solo of Alderaan.”
Padme smiled at that. “I’ve always been partial to the name Leia,” she said, losing some of her solemnity. “If I ever have a daughter that’s what I’m going to name her.”
“You’re thinking of children already?” Leia asked in surprise. “How old are you?”
“Fourteen.”
Leia sighed. “At fourteen I was thinking about politics and Rebellions. Men were the last thing on my mind – much less children.” She smiled almost wistfully. “It seems so far away . . .”
“Tell me Leia Organa –“
“Just Leia is fine.”
Padme nodded. “Then you may call me Padme.”
“I’m honored you majesty,” Leia said, trying to recall if the title of Queen was hereditary or elected on Naboo. She had looked it up before she had arrived, but the finer points of speaking with the monarch were escaping her at the moment.
“Just Padme. The circumstances hardly warrant such titles as Queen.”
“We can never truly escape our stations in life,” Leia said simply. “But I will call you Padme.”
Padme nodded, thinking silently that this woman reminded her of her mother. “Do you have any idea what is wrong with Senator Palpatine? When I left Coruscant he was in the process of being Nominated for Supreme Chancellor. I do not understand how he could have changed so much in such a short span of time.”
Leia’s brow furrowed. “Palpatine was nominated Supreme Chancellor in 32 BBY.”
“What’s that in Circa?” Padme asked, thinking that BBY must be some sort of Alderanian year counter.”
Leia frowned, thinking about it. “I think it would be about 3, 325, but I’m not sure.”
“Yes, that is the year,” Padme said simply. “Was he elected then? I hadn’t gotten word whether it was Senator Palpatine or Senator Antillis who was appointed to the position.”
“The year is 28 ABY,” Leia said softly. “Palpatine has been dead for many years.”
“I do not see how that can be possible,” Padme said in confusion.
**
Death Star, throne room
With the Skywalker baby on the way, Palpatine had no use for Skywalker’s sister or mother. He had even less use for the fool smuggler Solo. He picked up his comm. “Terminate the prisoners.”
“Yes my Lord,” came the instant response.
“And do not interrupt me,” Palpatine continued. Far away on Ossus he could feel his control of Mara Jade slipping. He was going to have to focus hard on keeping her under his will. She had gotten stronger since he had last commanded her.
**
Death Star, control room
Luke Skywalker leaned forward, voice suddenly sly. “She’s rich.”
Chewie roared a quick warning to his companion, watching in dismay as Han’s dark eyes widened at the prospect of credits.
“Rich?”
Chewie growled another warning.
“Rich, powerful,” Skywalker said, leaning closer to Han. “Listen, if you were to rescue her, the reward would be –“
Luke paused, waving his hand and in an attempt to come up with a sum that would sway Han.
“What?” Han asked, taking the bait. He looked skeptical, but Chewie had the feeling that he was already sunk.
“Well, more well than you can imagine.”
“I don’t know, I can imagine quite a bit,” Han said, swiveling in the chair he had claimed to glance at Luke.
“You’ll get it.”
“I better.”
Han’s resolve vanished. “All right, kid. You better be right about this.”
Chewie shook his head. “<This is a bad idea,>” he growled softly. And then the room was empty save for two shocked, black suited figures.
“What the!” one of them shouted.
Chewie responded instantly, clubbing one of them in the head and shooting the other with his bowcaster. Quickly he looked around, searching for his companions. Not seeing them he growled in frustration. Leave it to Han to vanish on him like this.
They’d probably gone to rescue Princess Leia. How they’d gotten out of the room without him noticing was a bit of a mystery. Maybe Skywalker had used the Force. He shook his head and growled in frustration.
He was
not
going to just stick around here. With a weary sigh, he headed out of the command room cautiously and headed toward Detention Block AA-23.
Naboo, clonetrooper HQ
She had finished her explanation. She didn’t know if the clonetrooper’s believed her – at least not one hundred percent, but Commander Cody seemed to be anxious to end the Naboo conflict and return to Coruscant. “We need to end this engagement with the Imperial Army.
Now.
“It’s not that simple,” Jaina said. She pursed her lips. “But you’re right.”
“What about the Trade Federation?” Qui-gon asked. “The droid army? What will you do about them?”
“Well, we could use their help in the Vong War as well,” Jaina said. “If we could get our hands on the master controller . . .”
“It won’t be that simple,” Commander Cody said. “We would be better off destroying them.”
Jaina nodded. “You’re right. But I think we can use their demise to solidify a truce with the Imperials.”
“You’re talking about an Alliance,” Qui-gon said. “Not a bad idea.”
“Will you be doing the negotiating General Jinn?” Cody asked.
“Master Jinn will do,” Qui-gon said simply. “And I would be willing to meditate a peace between your forces and the Imperials. However, I have a minor request of you.”
“Sir?”
“My padawan should be somewhere in the city. He is not yet a full Jedi knight and I fear that he may be in danger.” Actually he couldn’t sense his padawan anywhere close and it was concerning him. “His name is Obi-wan Kenobi. He’s about twenty has short hair with a padawan’s braid and blue eyes. He should be wearing a white tunic and brown traveling cloak.”
Now it was Jaina’s turn to gasp to confusion with Commander Cody. “Who?” they both asked at the same time. And then, still in synch they said, “He’s no padawan, he’s a Jedi Master.”
They looked at each other and then back to Qui-gon.
Qui-gon was taken aback by the force of their assertion. “I can –“ he began, but then stopped. For all his talk about the Living Force and remaining in the here and now, he had certainly lost track of things somehow. He wasn’t as in tune with the Force as he normally was.
“I must take a few moments to mediate,” he announced.
“I’ll bring our truce offer to the Imps,” Jaina said.
Qui-gon raised one hand. “Actually I would appreciate it if you spend a few moments meditating as well.”
“There’s no time –“
“There is plenty of time. It is far better to engage in combat with a clear head.”
“We’re not engaging in combat,” Jaina responded instantly. “We’re just going to propose an alliance to the Imps. It’s important that –“
“For a Jedi, it is important to enter into
all
situations with a clear head.”
“I have a clear head,” Jaina snapped impatiently.
“It is also important for a Jedi to be patient.” He turned away from her. “Come along, young one. You are closer to the Dark Side than you should be.” As he walked away, he wondered if she was going to follow. Her feelings were conflicted and he couldn’t tell if it was too late to bring her away from her darkness.
Pushing her like this was risky. She wasn’t his padawan. Still, she was in need of guidance. She needed his help, whether she knew it or not. He felt the tension in her cresting, frustration pouring through her. Then, with effort, she pushed it back.
“I’m not going to Fall,” she said softly, falling into step beside him.
“No,” Qui-gon agreed. “I won’t let you.” He hoped feverishly that he was telling her the truth.

hmmmmmm
I think Jaina may be starting to get it and Qui-Gon is still completely confused. Which would make sense.
And there's two Lukes & Hans running around? Does this mean the younger Luke will meet his sister
and
mother at the same time? Woah so many possibilities.
I don't know how you're keeping all of this together and making sense, but you're doing a super job on it.
And I'm glad you've stuck with the Saga and Beyond it and didn't bring like Exar Kun and other Sith from way back in the past.

Another great post Kissa.
I especially like the interactions between Qui-gon and Jaina.
