Summary:
Luke has gone missing and the Sith have been reborn under a mysterious new Dark Lord. Their only hope rests in the hands of finding Luke's past exiled apprentices.
Author’s Notes:
This is my first Star Wars fan-fic, so please be nice. I know OC's aren't always received well, but I worked very hard on making them likeable for all types of people. But even if that doesn't work, I hope the plot will snag your interest
Prologue:
In a galaxy far, far away…Many years have passed since the death of Emperor Palpatine and his Dark Empire. Through constant vigilance, the New Republic forces have managed to partially rebuild what the Dark Lord worked so hard to destroy. Aided by a new Jedi Order, headed by Luke Skywalker himself, the New Republic seemed to have finally reestablished order in the galaxy. Or so they had thought, until the arrival of a new threat arose from the shadows of space.
He goes by the title of Darth Narius, a powerful Sith Lord of unknown race and origin. Without mercy or regard, Narius’ tyranny swept across the core worlds almost overnight, attacking it’s newly revived cities and leaving only death and destruction in his wake. Using a vast new Sith Army, the likes of which have never been recorded, Narius has placed the New Republic in a bitter position.
And just when it seemed the new Dark Lord’s path of destruction could grow no stronger, the savior of the galaxy, Luke Skywalker, has mysteriously disappeared. The New Republic is now in dire need. Their only hope lies in finding the exiled former apprentices of Master Skywalker. For only they may possess the courage and skill needed to find their former master and stop Darth Narius before he can unmask his truly dreadful plans.
CHAPTER 1: PARIAH
A sickly chill swept through the large presidential office of Leia Organa Solo. For months now, a terrible curse in the form of a reborn Sith Order has plagued the galaxy, giving no relief to its people. A solution was no where in sight. This Sith Army was twice the size of the original and even more destructive. The pain of the dilemma started to show on the Chief of State. She would often find herself wondering how this had come to be.
And that brings us to the present, to a meeting of both Jedi and New Republic Officials alike. For hours now, they have discussed plans for the termination of the Sith threat, but have only found more problems. Not only in the Sith, but in themselves.
“How can you people think that Darth Narius isn’t coming for us?”
The angry old Republic official shouted as he stared on at the two Jedi that stood opposite Leia’s desk. From the Jedi Knight’s viewpoint, the Republic Official was seemingly speaking for Leia, who sat silently in her chair.
This official was, Zeen Tavrod, newly elected Supreme Commander to the Galactic Defense Force, and General of the entire New Republic Army. Among the Jedi was the famous hero, Cole Wan Yee, whose escapades during the war with the Galactic Empire ranked legendary among the halls of the New Jedi Order. His reputation was forged upon being one of the few Jedi Knights to escape Darth Vader’s extermination squads. A trial he barely survived.
Along side him, stood his young apprentice, Seraphine Kel. A beautiful blonde women, yet green in the field of combat. Vigorously, the Commander began pacing back and forth in a line, arguing the Darth Narius dilemma to best of his will. Cole followed his every agitated step, attempting to speak with reason.
“Commander, I understand your disposition. But Darth Narius will not attack the capital at this early in his campaign.”
Cole argued with a decisive tone.
"He is systematically assaulting the strongest core worlds for a reason. It simply doesn’t make sense for him to pass up the remaining core worlds and come straight for Coruscant.”
The wise old Jedi Master didn’t need the Force to see the fear that occupied the Commander’s thoughts. But it was neither his place nor duty to try and tell him how to feel at such a desperate hour.
“And why is that, Jedi? He has already laid waste to Telos, and even the mighty army of Onderon was helpless to stop his wrath!”
Zeen was in a fury that blazed brighter than the Twins suns of Tatooine. But this was merely a clever way of masking his nervous mind.
“Isn’t it obvious?"
Cole wondered.
“Narius is destroying the core worlds in planetary order. Coruscant is crowned as the last in that line. It makes perfect strategic sense for him to save Coruscant for last; a certain final deathblow to New Republic, if you will.”
“Do not speak as though the Sith consist of the logical type, Jedi.”
Zeen firmly stated, knowing he had proven a valid point.
Cole was left at a fork in the road. Though it pained him to admit it, the old Jedi Master knew Zeen was right. Even with all his years of experience, Cole could not honestly say he knew what hideous plans the new Sith Lord had yet to unveil.
“Your words speak the truth.”
Cole evasively replied. “However, I do not understand why you keep resisting the Jedi Order’s assistance?”
“You wouldn’t!”
Commander Tavrod shouted loudly. However, before anyone could say another word, Leia rose up two fingers that signal Zeen to be silent. Seeing this, Zeen bowed his head in honor.
A second later, Leia finally stood up from her seat and sauntered away from her desk to the large window of the office. There, she gazed out onto the glorious landscape that is Coruscant and drew in a deep breath of relief.
“Do not misunderstand Zeen, noble Jedi. It is not that he does not want your help. But this war seems like it was placed upon us almost over night, and the people are demanding action! Yet we seem to always fail with it comes to discovering any solution.”
Cole understood Leia all too well. Though her words talked of helping the galaxy, she secretly yearn to know her brother’s whereabouts.
“Madame President, I assure you that won’t happen as long as you tread this path carefully.”
Cole was clearly doing his best to damper the hurting heart of Leia.
“How can you be so calm?"
Zeen demanded forcefully. Do you even know who this Sith Lord is, or where he came from? Because I thought the Sith Order was dead and buried!
An uncomfortable gleam took residence from within the Jedi Master’s eyes. He had no answers to give the Chief of State or the Commander. Much like him, the Jedi Order had also believed the Sith Order to be deceased, resting away all its hideous misdeeds from the past few millennia. But this wasn’t the first time they had been mistaken.
“The Jedi Council is sparing no effort in finding the truth behind Darth Narius’ origin.”
Cole said discreetly, pondering the lack of information on the new Dark Lord of the Sith.
“
What about, my brother? Have you found any information yet?"
Leia spoke with a soft, worried voice, but never abandoned the tone of a leader.
Cole sighed helplessly. If only he had the knowledge to give her. If only he knew where Luke had ventured off to, then they could find a decisive way of stopping the Sith resurgence.
“Regretfully, Master Skywalker’s path is still unknown to the Council. Strangely, we’re unable to track him even when using the Force. It’s almost as if he is in a place where the Force can not go. Or…does not exist.”
The very thought of such a place chilled the Jedi Master down to his bones. He could only pray that Luke had not found himself in harm’s way.
“So the Sith have returned stronger than before, and the savior of the galaxy is missing.. My question to you, Jedi, is what do you suggest we do now?”
There was no easy way to answer this question for Cole.
“Until we find Master Skywalker, no Jedi is strong enough to defeat Darth Narius. We must first focus our attention on delaying the Sith Army’s progression, and then worry about defeating them.”
Cole’s wisdom shined through magnificently. Rarely, would he find himself without hope.
“I’d love to know how you plan on accomplishing that. Narius’ army is as vast and powerful as Emperor Palpatine’s ever was. With Onderon and Telos gone, we don’t have enough soldiers to destroy three of his fleets. Face it, Jedi. We’ve reached our most desperate measures.”
The Commander began to sound like a broken holocron. Cole wondered how such a hopeless human being could arrive at such a respected rank.
“This only strengthens the reason that we should band together, rather than argue!”
Cole shouted. If calm speaking wouldn’t break through the Commander’s thick shell of negativity, then maybe yelling would.
“Look. Personally, I respect what the Jedi Order has done to help rebuild the Republic. But I never have believed that we needed to rest our conflict solely on your kind. Now that I am Supreme Commander, we will usher in a new age, an age where the Republic will fight its own battles, without relying on the assistance of the Jedi Order."
The Commander’s lack of respect began to annoy the Jedi Master. Though his heart was in the right place, Zeen felt far too justified in taking out his frustration on the Jedi Order. But even this bothersome new ally wasn’t strong enough to make Cole give into spite.
Cole shook his head slowly.
“Commander, do not think you can stop Darth Narius without the assistance of the Jedi Order. No one person, no matter how strong, can succeed alone. If you were to make that decision on the battlefield, the blood of thousands would already rest on your hands.”
Zeen’s eyes appeared fueled by the fire of egotism.
“How dare you!”
“Quiet, Commander! Master Wan Yee is right.”
Leia yelled, cutting off the maroon cheeked Commander.
“We cannot afford to take any unnecessary risks at this time.”
Zeen cocked his jaw at the Jedi Master’s attempt at wisdom, but submitted to the Chief of State’s command.
“Then tell me why you are here, Jedi? You said you wished to meet with us to discuss an option we could use against the Sith, yet I’ve only heard Jedi preaching. So tell me, what is it that you plan to do here?”
Cole answered with a smile.
“No need. The answer is about to walk through your door.”
The doors to the Commander’s office swung open to reveal Wan Yee’s second padawan, Naudo Varoch. Naudo was a young boy, no older than fifteen or sixteen. Like curtains, his padawan robes draped over his body, perhaps one size larger than they should’ve been. Yet despite his less than impressive exterior, Cole believes that this boy will someday become a great and noble Jedi.
In an anxious sprint, Naudo hurried towards his master.
“Master Cole, we’ve found them!”
He shouted with a gleeful grin, holding up a datapad as if it were a trophy.
“Found who?”
Zeen asked; puzzled on who they were referring to.
“You said it yourself, Commander. We’ve reached our most desperate measures.”
Cole added.
“Last month, I came to the conclusion that the reason no one can find Master Skywalker, is because he has been severed from the Force. Our only chance of finding him is to find someone who possesses not only the knowledge and skill of the Jedi, but a knack for how Luke thinks.”
The Commander shrugged his shoulders and crossed his arms, seemingly baffled on what was the purpose behind the Jedi Master’s rant. “
I don’t understand where you’re going with this? Explain yourself.”
Zeen gruffly demanded.
“Very well…as you may know, after the empire fell, Jedi were a very rare sort. Once Master Skywalker rebuilt one of the Jedi Academies on Yavin IV, the remaining Jedi were assigned take on more that one apprentice.”
“I know all of this, Jedi.”
Zeen interrupted.
“Well, then allow me to finish...now Luke has trained many apprentices over the years, most followed the Jedi Code and have grown to become honorable Jedi. But none of which shared the unique kinship with their master, which we are referring to.”
Leia shifted her stance, as she reclaimed her seat, noticeably interested in where Cole was taking this.
“Kinship? Like what?”
“A friend, one that would be held above a student; a person who surpassed Master Skywalker’s former pupils in not only skill, but in Luke’s trust as well.”
Cole said.
“So the one you speak of, the best of Skywalker’s apprentices. Is he good enough to find Luke?”
Leia questioned.
Cole inhaled a short, yet deep breath, before speaking again. Memories of a dark event plagued his mind before disappearing in light of the conflict at hand. Through the Force, it was clear to his young padawans that whatever their master was about to say has been deep in his thoughts for some time now.
Cole lowered his head and spoke almost soullessly.
“Actually, there are two.”
Zeen’s eyes widened at this news. “
We’re looking for two apprentices?”
“Correct.”
Cole muttered.
Hearing this, the Commander unfolded his arms and stared questionably at Master Wan Yee.
“Wait! These people are Jedi. Why did you have to find them? They should be with you at the temple.”
Cole’s eyes refocused on the floor.
“Unfortunately, past differences had forced the Council to sentence them into exile. That was nearly five years ago.”
A phantom breeze coursed over Wan Yee’s skin, when thinking of the two Jedi exiles. He had known them well, and missed them so. In this brief moment, the events of a fateful day, lost in the past, haunted the old Jedi Master. Cole was almost unaware that he was reliving the memory of that day…the day the Jedi Academy was attacked. But now was not the time for the past. The present was all that mattered.
“So you’re telling me that the only hope we have of finding Skywalker, rests in the hands of two order-rejected Jedi?”
Zeen chuckled unrealistically.
“In a word…yes.”
Cole replied, not amused.
Hearing this news, Zeen fell back against the wall behind him and smeared his hands down his face in frustration. The old Commander then looked to Leia for her thoughts and found that she was staring blankly at the top of her desk. While the Chief of State continued to think over Cole’s idea, the Jedi waited for her response patiently, and without interruption.
With a small amount of reluctance in her voice, or perhaps fear, Leia came to her conclusion.
“Where are they now?”
Everyone then turned their attention back to Naudo, who oafishly failed to realize it was his time to speak.
“Oh yes…well…our latest reports have confirmed that the exiled Jedi Knights, Zego Tetrin and Landon Kinoda, have taken residence in Mos Eisley, located on the planet of Tatooine.”
A look of uncertainty posted over the Commander’s face.
“Tatooine? Why would the Jedi sort want to live on that giant sandpit?”
Naudo quickly scanned down the information held within the datapad, until he found the answer.
“Our reports say that the reason they apparently chose that particular planet, is because of its high bounty intake?”
Naudo scratched his head, thinking the information may be incorrect.
A small crackle of humor lightened the heated face of the Commander. The very thought of two of the great Luke Skywalker’s apprentices becoming lowly bounty hunters, both amused and intrigued his curiosity.
“Heh-heh-heh-heh-heh…your Jedi saviors are bounty hunters?! That’s marvelous!”
Zeen laughed, barely able to get a word out.
Cole on the other hand, seemed less than thrilled by the entire situation. But it was no short time before Zeen was finished busting his gut.
“As I said before, the Council had past differences with them.”
Cole interrupted, unable to wait until Zeen was finished mocking him with laughter.
“Well I don’t care what they’ve done in the past. If you believe these men are the only chance we have of finding Luke and stopping the Sith, then we have to find them as soon as possible!”
Leia answered passionately, just as a true leader would.
Leia then turned to Zeen, hoping he would cooperate without discussion. Zeen needed only to look upon the determined face of his superior to find his answer.
“Very well, but I suggest we start our search the minute we leave this office.”
“It seems that for the first time in this meeting we agree, Commander.”
Cole nodded to his ally.
With a slap of her hands, Leia confirmed the full ignition of the hunt for the Exiles.
“It’s settled then! I’ll have some men swing by Tatooine and pick these gentlemen up right away.”
The Jedi Master’s eyes racked feelingly at the Leia’s enthusiasm.
“That may not be the best course of action, Madame President.”
Leia sat puzzled over Cole’s words.
“And why is that?”
Before the Chief of State could set her mind on the goal suggested by the Jedi Knight, Cole found it best to try and convince her of a different and far less risky approach to their plan. He could only hope that wisdom of Anakin Skywalker would take heed from within his daughter.
“Well, if I know Zego and Landon. They may not be quite so helpful from the start.”
Wan Yee responded with the greatest aspect of subtlety. Showing he was more afraid for the Republic soldiers than he was for the Exiles.
“Then I’ll order a seek and capture mission!”
Zeen proposed, still unaware of the point Cole was trying to get across.
“I think it will be safer if you let the Jedi Council handle this, Commander.”
Cole replied cautiously.
The Force revealed to Cole that Leia was questioning Cole’s motives about these Exiles. Something within her recalled Luke mentioning a pair of students that were unrightfully banished after the Sith attacked the Jedi Academy. But that was no surprise or consequence to the seasoned Jedi Master. He was confident that the teachings of Jedi wisdom would win out this debate, if need be.
“Then it shall be done, Master Wan Yee.”
Leia said with a smile, feeling a sort on confidence about the Exiles. This was something she hasn’t felt sense the Sith resurfaced.
“I assure you, Madame President, we will attend to the recruiting of Zego and Landon with our quickest means.”
Cole returned Leia’s smile with one of his own.
Before turning to leave, Cole passed along a respectful nod to the gruff Commander. Though Zeen acted as if it meant nothing, he could feel the honesty within the noble Jedi Master. His instincts may have told him to only rely on the New Republic to get things done, he could not simply deny centuries of Jedi assistance in the matter of difficult missions.
“Thank you again, my friends. I now bid you farewell. And may the Force be with you.”
Cole continued to interlock his arms and bow respectfully to Leia and Zeen before making his exit.
Seraphine and Naudo followed quickly behind their master, but never passed him. With the end of a short walk, the Jedis found themselves outside the Republic Embassy and descending its mighty steps. Through the Force, Cole foresaw an inkling of doubt surfacing within his young female padawan. Acting as a good master would, he thought it best to quell the problem quickly.
“What troubles you, young one?”
Cole questioned with concern.
Seraphine turned to her master in a daze. She didn’t even realize he had asked a question until a short time later.
“I…was just day-dreaming, Master.”
She answered.
“You may hide your thoughts from me, my padawan. But you cannot hide them from the Force."
[/i]Cole’s gentle eyes cut through Seraphine’s doubts. For a moment, she thought herself foolish to think she could hide anything from her master, much less the Force.
“Master, why did you not tell Madame President and the Commander, the reasons for Zego and Landon’s exile? Is it not their right to know?"
“It is their right, my padawan. However, there was a calculated risk that they may not have allowed the assistance of Zego and Landon, if they were fully disclosed on their past history with the Council.”
“But, Master, was lying to them most necessary?”
“There was no lie told in that room, my padawan. I told them that Zego and Landon had a troubled past with the Jedi Council. If they had asked what kind, I would have told them, regardless of the consequences.”
A rush of embarrassment painted Seraphine’s cheeks a shade of light red. How could she ever have doubted her master’s intentions?
“I apologize, Master. I did not mean to question your wisdom.”
“Apologize not, young one. You are still young and have much to learn. But your questioning was not without reason.”
Wan Yee smiled softly at his female pupil. This brought much relief to Seraphine’s heart. She vowed to never again to doubt her master.
Seeing that Seraphine was also feeling unsure of recent events, Naudo felt it was the right time to clear his own mind.
“Master, unlike yourself. I wasn’t present in the Jedi Order when Zego Tetrin and Landon Kinoda were cast out. So if I may ask? Why were they exiled?”
Cole looked upon Naudo with a blank expression. He couldn’t help but find it funny how his past with the Exiles was coming back to haunt him. But now was not the time to indulge Naudo’s curiosity.
“For reasons that will soon be brought back into the light. But until that time, I ask you to remain patient.”
Feeling he may have overstepped his bounds, Naudo bowed to his master in respect.
“Of course, Master.”
Cole and his padawans continued their way around the vibrant city of Coruscant. Millions of vast white buildings, with billions of small lit windows ruled the surface, almost perfectly attuned with the artificial sunlight setting in the distance; gleaming them with a golden glare, like that of a corona. All races of human and alien walked side by side and pass each other, never shedding an insolent glare.
There were hundreds of lines of zipping speeders criss-crossed through the sky, just narrowly missing collision with each other; and stands of floating food vendors hovering off to the side of the expressways, just in case hunger should strike a passing driver. Seraphine was entranced by this magnificent sight. For the time being, she didn’t understand why this world existed.
“So beautiful, how could anyone want to destroy such harmony?”
Seraphine spoke, while coming to a complete stop. Cole and Naudo had noticed her abrupt stop and joined her in gazing upon the galaxy’s capital. The wise old Jedi Master then placed his hand on his female padawan’s shoulder.
“Not all see the world as you do, Seraphine. Where you see beauty and peace as your solace, others see death and destruction as theirs.”
“But why, Master?”
“
It is the balance. Every light casts a shadow. And that shadow could not have existed without the light. Thus is the balance from which the universe and the Force are derived from.”
Through the Force, Cole could see that more doubts began to cloud Seraphine’s thoughts.
“Master, do you really think Zego and Landon can find Master Skywalker?”
Cole stayed silent for a moment, carefully thinking over his answer. Only when he felt confident in it, did he finally speak.
“Yes…yes I do.”
“Why do you place such confidence in these Exiles, Master?”
Naudo asked.
Naudo’s curiosity had gotten the best of him again. He just couldn’t see why his master would put so much faith in those that were banished for betraying the Order.
“There was more between Luke and his apprentices than just Jedi teachings. In some ways, I believe they thought of him as a father and them as his children.”
“Did Master Skywalker feel the same?”
“It is taught that the Jedi are above such feelings. But…the Jedi Order has changed since Luke took his chair on the Council. So the answer to your question is…perhaps.”
“Really…”
Naudo exclaimed.
The Jedi Master cleared his throat in an urgent manner, believing he may have said too much.
“Of course, that is purely speculation on my part. Not to be confused with Master Skywalker’s true intentions for them. But we have spoken enough for now. Let’s return to the Temple and discuss our recent Intel with the Jedi Council.”
Cole and the padawans continued on their way through the glorious streets of Coruscant. Unaware what the new Dark Lord of the Sith has planned for the Republic and its people.

WOW! Loved it! You wrote, Cole, very well. Make them meet Zego and Landon soon though, I gotta see how you wrote me as Landon. I can't wait to see how the Exiles clash with the Sith too.

Thank you, all of you. I've always been a little iffy about the first chapter, and am glad it was recieved well. But if by chance anyone didn't like it, trust me when I say that the others are a lot better.
I'm really proud of the plot I wrote for this story, and I guarantee that even if you think you've figured out something, YOU HAVE NO IDEA...enjoy.

So Zego and Landon are Luke's first apprentices? I wonder what ever inspired this?
I enjoyed reading this. I look forward to finding out more about this sudden invasion of the Sith Army and how so many Sith Lords came to be. I also wonder where Luke could be. On Dagobah maybe? Perhaps a completely new world. I also enjoyed a new side of Leia. She didn't hesitate to yell in this chapter. Nice first post! Great story so far for your first time. I think you are an excellent story teller and a good writer. Work on your grammar and I think you will be one of the best writers on these forums.

Thank you, Skalen. I really appreciate your opinion especially, as leader of the Writing Guild.
Also...they're not his first, but they are his best. Think of it like a teacher who teaches a classroom of different students, year after year. But one year, there is one, or a couple students that stand out among the crowd.

CHAPTER 2: ENEMY
Ghostly echoes of the dark side whispered throughout the corridors of the Oblivion, vessel of the notorious, Darth Narius. Alone, he stands at the end of the shadowy bridge, completely cloaked in his crimson and black Sith robes, silently watching his enormous fleet of Sith Destroyer ships cut through the black sheet of space.
Slowly, they make their way towards the next target, and perhaps something else. The silence of the room is then broken by the arrival of Darth Caina Xin, apprentice to Darth Narius. A raven haired beauty, whose dark eyes tell the stories of the hundreds she’s murdered.
“Are the preparations complete?”
Darth Narius spoke, in a deep, raspy voice, completely void of any human emotion.
“Yes, my master. The recruitment of
Darth Sohn
is at hand. Once he arrives, no one will be able to stand against you!”
Narius smiled pleasingly at Caina’s news. For a second, he day-dreamed of a galaxy lit ablaze with fire and death. The image of it sent a tingle down his spine, lighting up his golden eyes.
“Good…and what of the project?”
“Our forces report that the machine has almost reached 50% completion.”
Caina replied, stiffened like a proper soldier.
“You have done excellent work, my apprentice.”
The Dark Lord complimented.
Caina kneeled before her master and lowered her head, as if she were a miserable animal begging for affection.
“Praise is not necessary, Master. My life is yours to command.”
“And so I shall, my child…so I shall.”
The Sith Lord gently caressed Caina’s face with the back of his hand, earning a seductive grin from his apprentice.
Before Darth Narius could proceed any further, a Sith Trooper stopped his advance with what would seem to be urgent message held inside a datapad.
“We received a message for you, Commander Caina.”
The Sith Apprentice then reclaimed her stance and took the datapad from the Sith Trooper.
“Very well, fool…now away with you.”
The Sith Trooper followed his orders and hastily retreated back to his post. Caina closely observed the information that the datapad acquired. Darth Narius didn't need to see the intrigue in his pupil’s face, to know she had discovered something of worth.
“What is it, my apprentice?”
Darth Narius calmly asked, while never moving an inch.
“It is something interesting, indeed, my master. It seems our spies on Coruscant have discovered a mission of specific interest to you.”
Narius scoffed at Caina’s speech.
“Little is of interest to me, my apprentice.”
“Of course, Master. But they report that the Republic has found the same two Jedi Knights we have been searching for.”
A surge of pleasure ignited the Sith Lord’s eerie yellow ember eyes.
“Where are they now?!”
“Apparently, they have been working out of Tatooine as bounty hunters for the past year now.”
Caina replied quickly.
The Sith Lord found doubt in the report’s sources. In a hopeless rage, he flailed his cape about and turned to walk toward his throne in the center of the bridge. Caina followed him to the large throne chair, attempting to ease her master’s mind.
“Are they sure that it is them?”
“The report confirms that the two Jedi Knights were exiled from the Jedi Order, nearly five years ago.”
“BUT IS IT THEM?!”
Narius roared out like a hungry beast.
The Dark Lord’s shout sent tremors through the bowels of his own flagship. This was but a testament to his true power over the dark side. Fearing the punishment that would come if she did not answer him quickly, the Sith Apprentice skimmed down the information on the datapad, until two names caught her attention.
“Their names are Zego Tetrin, and Landon Kinoda.”
Once hearing those two names, Darth Narius’ rage softened and soon faded into his own nothingness. He had appeared to be at ease now. Like a great weight had been lifted from his cloaked shoulders.
Caina remained silent for the time being. She just stood there and watched her master sit quietly on his throne, carving indentions into the throne’s armrest with his monstrous fingernails. A few moments passed on like hours, and finally the Sith Lord spoke.
“Take as many squads as you need…go to Tatooine and capture the Exiles, immediately.”
With the very mention of the Exiles from her master’s lips, the Force revealed a most unexpected feeling to Caina. What was this feeling, she thought. Never had her master ever relayed anything like this to her.
Was it possible that this could be excitement she was feeling? No, not her master, her master would never exhibit such a weak human emotion. This was different; this was something new to the Lord of the Sith. This was fear.
“Master, I sense intensity grows within you. How do you know of these Exiles?”
The Sith Apprentice made a bold choice by asking such a question. There was no way of telling how sensitive this issue was with her master. But to her surprise, The Dark Lord responded rather calmly.
“Long ago, I took something from them…and them from me.”
Darth Narius spoke no longer. He only resumed watching the dark reaches of space.
The wise choice would have been to walk away now and continue doing her duties, but it was the curse of the knowing the unknown that prompted Caina to ask a question.
“What did they take?”
But before Caina could fathom another thought, she was propelled up the air and ensnared in a choke, robbing her of precious oxygen. The Dark Lord rose up from his seat, teeth grinding in an infuriated glare. How dare his apprentice question him with such reckless regard!
“DO NOT QUESTION ME, APPRENTICE! NEVER FORGET THAT IT IS BECAUSE OF MY WILL THAT YOU LIVE ANOTHER DAY.”
The Sith Apprentice began to cough repeatedly. She barely had enough air to apologize for her lack of discretion.
“Master…I…apologize.”
Only when her master was fully satisfied, did he eventually release his Force Grip on her, sending Caina to the hard floor.
Gasping to regain her breath, The Sith Apprentice shook and gagged on the ground, holding her throat ever so slightly. The sight of Caina’s suffering pleased the Dark Lord of the Sith. He leaned his head back and sniffed in her pain through his deformed nostrils. It was ecstasy to him.
“Now go and find the Exiles. But do not fail me, Caina. For I will make the pain you feel now, seem like a pleasant dream compared to what you will suffer!”
“As you…command…Master.”
Caina said in a small, almost laryngitic voice. Wasting little time, the Sith Apprentice mustered up her strength and climbed to her feet. She then proceeded to exit the bridge level and entered into the elevator. Caina rode the elevator all the way to the crowded barracks, where Sith Troopers rallied together.
Among the many troopers sat Caina’s apprentice, Neevog Lar. While the many soldiers around him talked or prepared for battle, Neevog could be found sitting on the ground with his legs flat and crossed, deep in meditation. The gray skinned Noghri duelist had served his master for years now, never allowing an enemy to get with ten feet of her, without feeling the wrath of his lightsaber.
There was only one other man worthy of mention in the chattering barrack. This man was, Tade Erott; the human Captain of the Mad Rancors, the Sith Army’s most adept assault squad. At one time, Tade was the most feared space pirate in the entire galaxy.
He joined the Sith Lord’s army out of promise of greater profit and the sheer fact of killing Republic soldiers. Both warriors noticed Caina’s presence and hushed the crowd to a silence.
Caina looked over the crowds of troopers as they rushed into grouped line formation, then saluting their superior officer with the respect she deserves. Tade and Neevog placed themselves at the head of the troopers, ready to serve their commander.
“Master Caina, how may we be of assistance?”
Neevog asked respectfully, taking time to bow to his master.
The Sith Apprentice stepped forth in front of all the watching eyes. She scanned the crowd for any sign of disobedient idol conversation, but found none. This moment of power lightened Caina’s mind of the punishment she had just endured.
“
MASTER NARIUS HAS ORDERED ME TO TRAVEL TO TATOOINE, FOR A SEEK AND CAPTURE MISSION!”
Caina shouted out loud, so all in the grand barrack could hear her.
“And who is it are we to capture, Master?”
Neevog asked returning from his bow.
“Two Jedi exiles.”
Caina answered with a lowered voice, now realizing that shouting wasn’t the best choice for her injured throat..
Tade and the Mad Rancors began to laugh insidiously at the sound of this mission.
“Heh-heh-heh…only two? Hardly seems worthy of my men.”
Tade boasted.
“You dare question Master Narius’ orders?”
The Sith Apprentice took this lack of respect to her master as a personal insult. Only now did she understand why her master became so angered by her previous questioning. In a fury, she drew out her fire red lightsaber and pointed it in Tade’s direction.
The cowardly captain quickly saw his error and tried his best to evade his coming demise.
“No, mistress! I was only suggesting that two exiles are hardly worth the attention of yourself, or my Mad Rancors.”
“Unfortunately, that decision is not in your power, Captain. Now assemble six of your best squads and meet me at hangar bay 12.”
Tade placed his forearm against his chest and bowed his head to the Sith Apprentice. Immediately afterwards, the Rancor Captain started selecting the best squads from the entire barrack and lining them up for departure. Seeing her work here was done, Caina was about to reenter the elevator when she was stopped by Neevog.
“Master, I ask that you allow me to join you on this mission.”
Caina’s eyebrows rose with suspicion.
“You, Neevog? I don’t think your presence is needed to capture these lowly exiles. As your master, I order you to stay and protect Lord Narius.”
But Neevog refused to accept this.
“I beg you to reconsider, Master. For many months now, I’ve sensed a great battle is approaching. And if this is that battle…I wish to be apart of it!”
Caina thought to herself for a moment. The determination in Neevog’s voice rang of confidence or foolishness, or perhaps both. He had proven himself time and time again to his master, maybe having him join the mission wouldn’t be such a mistake after all.
“Very well, Neevog. Prepare yourself and follow Tade to hangar bay 12.”
A sadistic grinned appear on Neevog’s scaly cheeks.
“Thank you, Master. I will not fail you.”
“Not if you value your life, you won’t.”
Caina then reentered the elevator.

Interesting chapter. The first paragraph gave me almost a Buck Rogers feel, but the rest remeinded me of the darkness of the LOTR movies. So are the Sith Troopers force sensitive? I wonder how so many people suddenly became evil Sith. I'm also intrigued that Darth Narius' apprentice, Caina, also has an apprentice. Now to see what happens next. Good job!

I love how you leave us with so many questions, that you'll probably only answer when the plot thickens
. What did Darth Narius take from the Exiles? Or a better question, what did the Exiles take from him? Did it have something to do with that Academy being attacked? And man, something about that Neevog guy is intimidating. Great post!

That was great ZEGO!
First off, you have a real talent for coming up with characters' names. A lot of times, writers here will give their characters names that sound pretty tacky, but every single one in this fic sounds really cool.
I really liked these descriptions of Naudo:
Like curtains, his padawan robes draped over his body, perhaps one size larger than they should’ve been.
Everyone then turned their attention back to Naudo, who oafishly failed to realize it was his time to speak
I love the idea of a Padawan having like hand-me-down, ill-fitting robes, it's a very funny image. As a slightly bumbling, inept young apprentice, he makes for a nice foil to Cole as the great and wise Jedi Master. Speaking of Cole, he's definitely got that whole Yoda-like, wise Master thing going on:
“You may hide your thoughts from me, my padawan. But you cannot hide them from the Force.”
“Not all see the world as you do, Seraphine. Where you see beauty and peace as your solace, others see death and destruction as theirs.”
I thought the second chapter was even better. I enjoy fics about the Sith and the ones you presented here were really compelling. I particularly liked the descriptions you gave of Narius:
Alone, he stands at the end of the shadowy bridge, completely cloaked in his crimson and black Sith robes, silently watching his enormous fleet of Sith Destroyer ships cut through the black sheet of space.
She just stood there and watched her master sit quietly on his throne, carving indentions into the throne’s armrest with his monstrous fingernails
He leaned his head back and sniffed in her pain through his deformed nostrils
Very sinister indeed. Me likes. Another creepy part to it was the weird moment when Narius touched his apprentice on the cheek in what felt like a quite a disturbingly sexual manner.
I agree with Skalen that there are moments when the grammar isn't perfect, but it's never anything too serious. Overall, this is a really good start ZEGO, I look forward to seeing how it progresses.

Thank you, everyone. But Bionic, I can't take credit for Landon Kinoda's name. That goes to Landon16, who gave me a some good ideas for my story way back. So to honor him, I gave one of the main character's his name.
Also, I thank everyone who has taken the time outta their busy schedule to read my little epic here!
And for this next chapter, just in case some people don't know anything about the expanded universe...Cole makes a reference to Kyp about when Exar Kun possessed him with the Dark Side, and Kyp did a lot of bad things.
EDIT: And as a final note, enlight of Skalen's comment, I wouldn't go thinking these are your typical Sith...just a tip.

CHAPTER 3: AMBUSH
The Jedi Master stood firm in front of half the Jedi Council. The remaining Council Members were away on Jedi affairs; fortifying the core worlds that hadn’t been attacked by the Sith Army. Among the remaining Council Members sat the skilled Jedi duelist, Kyp Durron, who had taken the seat of chairman in Luke’s absence.
To the right of Kyp sat the legendary rogue squadron pilot and noble Jedi Master, Corran Horn, a welcome addition to the Jedi ranks in the most recent decade. To Kyp’s left, was the scholar of the entire history of the Jedi Order, Tionne. Though her skills with the lightsaber were not as fierce as the other Jedi; her heart and knowledge was unmatched.
However, it was these same masters that had a hand in casting the Exiles out of the Jedi Order.
“I understand your hesitancy to my request. But the galaxy has not seen such danger, since the time of Emperor Palpatine. And with the rest of the Council away preparing other worlds for war; you must understand my urgency for you to accept.” Cole pleaded with his soul, hoping they would see past the decision they made so many years ago.
“Has the galaxy fallen into such peril that we must resort to the undeserving redemption of these exiles?” Kyp asked, sitting straight ahead from within the chairman’s seat.
Cole blinked his eyes slowly, knowing his next answer would have to be a wise one. “No one is undeserving of redemption, Master Durron, although some may not realize its salvation.”
“Master Wan Yee, though your words speak with much wisdom. Are you certain that the Exiles will even aid us in our cause? Or for that matter, even desire the redemption you speak of.” The wisdom of Corran was undeniable. No doubt the Exiles would hold many grievances with the Jedi Order since their banishment.
“I admit…the day Zego and Landon left the Order; it was in their best interest, as well as ours. However, as Master Skywalker once taught us: “To always believe that following your emotions is the path to dark side, is to never truly understand the Force.”
“The dark side ruled them that day, Master Wan Yee. What would lead you to believe anything has changed? Tionne added.
“The Sith had taken someone very precious to them in the Academy Siege. Did you expect them to just except it without suffering?”
Kyp shook his head with disappointment. “We expected them to follow the Jedi Code.”
“With all due respect, Master Durron, YOU are no one to condemn them for giving into anger that day.”
Kyp’s face lit up red in shock. For a second, he wasn’t sure if Master Wan Yee had actually said such a thing to him. “How dare you show such impertinence here?” Master Durron was never more insulted than at that very moment. How dare Cole bring up a history that he had spent so much time trying to rewrite. But was it the old Jedi’s words that angered him, or the fact that in the past, he too had given into his dark side just like the Exiles did.
“That is uncalled for, Master Wan Yee.” Tionne said, coming to the defense of her friend and fellow Council Member.
“I meant no disrespect. I was only stating that if Master Durron could turn away from the dark path, then surely the Exiles are not without hope!”
Corran tried his best to understand Cole’s reasoning, yet he couldn't seem to place why Cole of all people would wish for the Exiles' return. “Why do you still defend them, Master Wan Yee? Did Zego not try to take your life that day?”
For the first time since he could remember, Cole was speechless. It was the truth. The exile in question had attempted to slay Cole in the past. But even this loyal Jedi Master was not without blame for his actions in that siege. “Yes…Zego did try to take my life. But I forgive him for that. The fact of the matter is that we’re losing this war. I have already spoken with the Chief of State and the Defense Force Commander, and both have given their blessing on this plan of action.”
Tionne could hardly believe her ears. “Leia and Zeen have agreed to such a plan?”
“I swear it.” Cole stated firmly.
Wan Yee’s Intel had left the Jedi Council at an unpleasant crossroads. Unsure of their next move, the Council Members took a moment’s solace to absorb Master Wan Yee’s plea. The old Jedi waited patiently to hear their judgment.
What was only a few minutes of whispering discussion, seemed like an eternity to the wise Jedi Master, but in this time of patience, Master Wan Yee found himself reliving the memories of the Academy Siege. In his mind, he was there on the steps of the great Jedi Academy on Yavin IV. Flailing about his sun colored lightsaber, striking down any Sith Trooper that neared him.
There, he fought alongside his fellow Jedi Knights, against what seemed to be insurmountable odds. His lungs strived for breath, while his knees cracked from strain. Each second bringing him closer to full exhaustion and what would certainly be his downfall.
A flash from an explosion blinded Cole’s sight and pegged his body with pieces of debris, completely disabling his sight. A small fog of dusty air coursed through the battlefield, transforming the once visible Jedi Knights into collapsing blurs.
At the end of all this senseless anarchy, the Jedi Knights had driven off the Sith assault. Like the cowards they were, the Sith Troopers, led by a large masked figure, retreated into their drop vessels. The Jedi Knights rejoiced at their victory, but one hard-headed knight could not allow them to escape after all they had done to the academy.
This single Jedi Knight bravely charged at the masked figure as he entered the ramp of his ship. But the soulless Assault Leader noticed the young knight approaching him, with his yellow lightsaber held high, screaming a furious battle cry. Master Wan Yee had seen this foolish act through the Force, but was helpless to stop it.
And with just a flick of a switch on his mechanized belt, the masked figure detonated a thermal charge planted on a nearby pillar. The same pillar the Jedi Knight was currently passing. Cole let out a deafening yell to stop the young knight’s advance, but it was too late.
The young knight was consumed in an inferno of fire and dirt.
“Master Wan Yee, are you okay?!” The Jedi Scholar announced, worried something wrong was afoot.
Hearing Tionne’s fearful voice, Cole shook himself back to the present. He had not even realized she was speaking to him. “Yes…yes, I’m fine.”
“Are you sure?” Tionne verified.
To be honest, Cole wasn’t so sure. But that was his concern, not the Council’s. “I apologize for worrying you, my friends. But have you come to a decision?”
It seemed as though the deliberation was over. The Jedi Council turned to Master Wan Yee once more. Tionne stood forth as a representative of the Council’s decision. Kyp remained quiet for the time. Perhaps he was displeased with the deliberation’s results. After drawing in a short breath, Tionne began to unveil the Council’s decision. “Master Wan Yee, your words speak an unavoidable truth. If you and the Republic both feel that the Exiles are the galaxy’s only chance to find Master Skywalker, then you are granted permission to temporarily reenlist Zego Tetrin and Landon Kinoda in the Jedi Order. Should they choose to accept your offer.”
A smile of both relief and joy crept on the old Jedi’s wrinkled face. There was no telling how long he had yearned to hear those words. “I thank you, my friends. I will attend to this, immediately.”
Cole was just about to exit the Council Chambers when one other thought struck him. Corran saw this halt in his movements and decided it best to investigate. “You have something else to say, Master Wan Yee?”
The old Jedi faced down the Council for a second time. This time, his face was possessed with curiousness. “Yes…There is something I have been pondering on for some time now.”
Corran then gave off an allowing wave of his hand. “Speak your mind, Master Wan Yee.” Corran said with a friendly tone to the old master.
It was this time around that Cole thought over his words before he spoke, so as to put his question in a form that would not insult the Council’s dignity. “Darth Narius…if a Sith Lord of his power was ever apart of the Sith Order, then why is there no record of his existence?”
Though the question was asked, Master Wan Yee received no reply. Each Council Member sat silently in their chairs. Their reason for their silence was unknown to Cole. There was no telling how long it would have lasted, if not for Corran speaking up. “Go on your journey, Master Wan Yee. Should you return with the Exiles, we will have much to discuss.”
Confused with the Council’s behavior; Cole hesitated to leave, but in the end, the old Jedi was overpowered by his mission and left the Council’s Chambers. Outside the Council Chambers, Seraphine and Naudo waited patiently for their master’s return. “Did the Council approve the mission, Master?” Seraphine asked, bursting with curiosity.
“Yes…they did.” Cole replied under his breath.
Just by peering into Cole’s face, anyone could tell that something was amiss. His eyes hung low, and his jaw cocked to the side, telling Seraphine that he was in deep thought. “Something troubles you, Master?”
What was it that kept troubling him about the end of that meeting with the Council? Could this just be an old man’s mind acting up, Cole thought. No, this old Jedi’s instincts were not that far gone.
The Jedi Council was hiding something.
“Master, Seraphine asked you a question.” Naudo pointed out.
Cole had drifted off again. Only this time, he awoke fully aware of his padawan’s speech. “I…I believe the Council is concealing something from me.”
Seraphine and Naudo propped their faces with uncertainty. Why would their master say such a thing? “Why would they do that, Master?” asked Naudo.
“Their reasons are a mystery to me. But we can not worry about this now; we have a mission to complete.” Cole felt it best to lay his other problems to rest for now and focus on the mission at hand. From the halls of the Jedi Temple, Master Wan Yee led his padawans down into the Republic hangar bays, where an assortment of various starships laid before them. Soon, a Republic Soldier approached them to help with the selection process. “Good day to you, Master Jedi.” The Republic Soldier greeted his visitors with a smile.
“As to you, soldier.” Cole returned his greeting.
“I received confirmation of your mission to Tatooine. All that’s left for you to do is select which vessel to take.”
Cole looked down the long row of Republic vessels, completely baffled on which would best suit his needs. “Any suggestions would be much appreciated.”
The Republic Soldier appeared happy that the respected Jedi Master would ask his opinion. The Soldier’s decision was not a quick one, though. He made sure to think over every possible option before speaking. “Oh, well…if I was you, I’d choose the Star Sparrow.” The Republic Soldier then led the Jedi over to the Star Sparrow’s port. The ship glistened with a golden bronze shine, and radiated with power. Its frame resembled that of a larger model A-Wing, but possessing ion-gun turrets on the top and bottom of the ship, rather than the side, like your basic A-Wing.
However, as powerful and magnificent as this ship was, its body structure was only large enough to house two rest quarters, a conference room and the cockpit; so not to hamper its speed too much.
“She is very impressive, Soldier. But why choose her over these others?” Cole wondered.
The Republic Soldier had a feeling that Master Wan Yee would ask him that. In preparation for the question, the Soldier licked his lips thoroughly, so as to ready himself for a long, frantic explanation. “Well, she has your top of the line dual ion-hyperdrive engines installed in the rear, which can nearly match your basic X-wing. And due to its small, but thick frame; it won’t break apart easily when in mid-hyperspace. As for weapons, it packs high impact gun turrets at the base and roof level of the ship. But if you’re surrounded, your best option would be the Missile-Cluster.”
“Missile-Cluster…what’s that?” Seraphine questioned, as she felt the glazed shine of the Star Sparrow’s armor.
The Republic Soldier chuckled as he answered. “It’s the ship’s main weapon. It fires a barrage of heat seeking ionic-projectiles in every direction.”
“It sounds destructive.” Naudo spoke.
“Indeed it is, young Jedi! This ship is as powerful as it is fast. So, what do you think, Master Jedi?” The Republic Soldier questioned with a grin.
There was really no need to ask Cole that question. After that explanation, the decision had already been made as far as the Jedi Master was concerned. “Then this will be our vessel.”
“You’ve made an excellent choice, Master Jedi! Just allow me to arrange a pilot and you can be off.”
“You have my thanks, Soldier.” Half an hour passed and after engaging in all the preflight preparations, the Star Sparrow left the Coruscant Republic Hangar and made its way toward Tatooine. Four galactic days passed, and the Star Sparrow neared its destination. On board, the crew of Jedi focused on any unexpected tasks they may face on the dune planet.
“Sir, we should be entering Tatooine’s atmosphere in approximately ten minutes.” The Republic Pilot responded over the intercom.
“Thank you, pilot.” Cole replied back over the intercom in his quarters. As the Jedi awaited their arrival into Tatooine’s atmosphere, Cole had found yet another uneasy feeling emitting from Seraphine. This one, however, seemed different.
It was not mistrust as before. No, this was hesitancy. Something scared the female padawan even more than the Sith. After first making sure the sleeping Naudo was comfortable in his restrained seat, Master Wan Yee took his place next to Seraphine.
“What troubles you, my padawan?”
Seraphine turned to her master and witnessed him watching her closely. “It is nothing, Master.” She said low toned, trying her best to avoid the question.
“Well that nothing is drifting from you like a strong perfume.” Cole jested.
Seraphine’s eyes dropped a little, as she turned to gaze at the stars outside her window.
“It’s just that...I don’t know how I’ll react when I see him?”
The old Jedi Master already knew the true source behind her fears. “You’re referring to Landon.”
“I know that you taught me to be above such emotions, but you know of our history.”
Cole knew all too well. “Yes, you and Landon were together before you entered the Jedi Order. An immature love for ones so young.”
“Is it wrong of me to be feeling this way?”
“Padawan…let me share with you the words my master once told me before he fell in the Jedi extermination. He said that as mysterious as the Force may be...should you ever feel a feeling, an urge, for but a second…it is because the Force commanded it of you.”
“So you’re saying that this feeling is not wrong?”
“Not wrong, but untamed. You mustn’t forget that your feelings for Landon are in the past now.”
“I know, Master. You believe love can still lead one down the dark path. But I thought maybe…” Seraphine trailed off in her sentence, thinking that perhaps she would earn the ire of her master if she finished her intended words. But the female padawan had underestimated Cole far too much.
“You thought that I would possibly allow it.” Cole said, finishing Seraphine’s sentence for her.
“Does it sound so foolish?”
“Ha-ha-ha-ha…foolishness is the gift and curse of the young, my padawan. As you mature in your Jedi training, such enlightenment will come through the Order’s teachings.”
Seraphine was most relieved to hear a chuckle ring out from her master. “Of course, Master.”
Cole laid his hand atop Seraphine’s head, signaling her to rest easy. The female padawan felt at ease under her master’s gentle touch. So much so, that she felt herself begin to drift off to sleep. Master Wan Yee noticed Seraphine’s fading eyes and smirked happily.
But what would’ve been a pleasant remaining ride to Tatooine, was interrupted by a small shrieking noise. Cole immediately recognized this sound as a starfighter opening fire on its target. Without warning, Cole threw himself on top of his padawans and held them close.
Naudo and Seraphine regained consciousness and found themselves in a fluster, just as a loud crash violently rattled the Star Sparrow. Knowing there was little time to act. Cole stumbled to the intercom for a status report. “Pilot, report!”
The Republic Pilot then clicked on his own intercom. “A Sith squadron just emerged from hyperspace and is firing on us, sir!”
“Can you evade them until we reach Tatooine?!”
“Doubtful, sir…once we enter Tatooine’s atmosphere, evasion will be impossible!”
The Star Sparrow rattled viciously from another blast. The old Jedi Master struggled to keep his balance, while his padawans were tossed about in their seats.
“Then do your best to evade blaster fire, I’ll man the gun-turrets and try to buy us time until we reach Tatooine!” Cole turned from the intercom and faced his worried pupils.
“What should we do, Master?!” Naudo shouted.
“Stay here and hold on tight!” Wasting no time, Cole raced through the ship and entered the roof level gun turret. Biding his time, until the enemy came into his sight, Cole patiently, but observantly waited for his targets. It was only a few seconds before the eight-manned Sith Squadron made their presence known with multiple blasts to the Star Sparrow’s frame.
Like a flock of ravenous shyracks, the squadron soared through the endless coat of space, pummeling the Republic ship without mercy. Seeing his enemies arrive in perfect attack formation, Master Wan Yee hastily locked onto one of the Sith Fighters and fired three laser bolts from his mighty turrets, only to watch the Sith Fighters barrel roll to their sides, narrowly evading the old Jedi’s shots. Faster and harder, the Sith Squadron assaulted the Star Sparrow, blast after blast, chipped away at its shields.
Cole frantically returned fire the best he could, but this was a battlefield not common for a Jedi. Each blow the ship inhaled, fumbled Master Wan Yee about in his chair, so much so, that he had to wrap his seatbelt around his forearms just to get a steady shot off. Hope was a fading dream at this time.
“Sir, we can’t take much more damage to the frame. If we want to survive the atmospheric pressure, we need to escape now!” The Republic Pilot announced throughout the ship.
“Thank you for the update, pilot, now if you’ll excuse me.” Cole said to himself.
Knowing time was of the essence, Master Wan Yee launched another set of energy blasts, succeeding in the destruction of a single Sith Fighter. For a moment, Cole believed they might actually survive this dreadful encounter.
But his glimpse of hope was shattered when out of nowhere; three Sith Fighters flanked the Star Sparrow and shredded its exterior with a barrage of laser bolt blasts. This unexpected tactic blew open one of the ship’s fuel lines, setting half the Star Sparrow ablaze.
“Sir, they hit one of fuel lines! If we take one more blast, we’re fodder!”
Realizing the desperation of the moment, Cole came at a loss on what to do. Never had the Jedi Master felt so helpless to stop impending death, since the Academy Siege. And then just like that, a guiding light appeared to Cole.
This was the answer that would no doubt save the crew of the Star Sparrow. Master Wan Yee’s last chance took the form of the final words spoken to him by the Republic Soldier he met at the hangar. With only seconds to spare, Cole shouted into the turret’s intercom.
“PILOT, ACTIVATE THE MISSILE CLUSTER!”
Unsure of what the Jedi Master spoke of, the pilot quickly searched the ship’s weapon system, scanning through its databanks, until he found the Missile Cluster activation code. Not sparing another desperate minute, the Republic Pilot activated the sequence, just as the remaining Sith Fighters closed in for the kill. To their immediate surprise, the Sith Squadron was met by a fierce swarm of glowing ionic orbs; erupting from all sides of the Star Sparrow.
Despite their best evasion tactics, each squadron member was blown into nothing more than burning shrapnel in the stars.
“THEY GOT THEM!” Naudo screamed from his seat, as he attempted to brace himself. In turn, Cole left the gun turret, and sprinted off toward the cockpit. Back and forth, Cole struck the walls to the left and right of him, as he struggled to beat the rabid turbulence and maintain his balance.
Slow, but steadily, Master Wan Yee finally reached the cockpit. Upon his arrival he found the Republic Pilot rapidly configuring the ship’s emergency systems.
“Pilot, status report!” The heated old Jedi ordered as he strapped himself into the co-pilot’s chair.
“We’re trapped in Tatooine’s atmospheric pull! And with the ship’s condition, I don’t know if she can survive the pressure?”
“What about the reverse thrusters?!”
“That was the fuel line they hit!”
Cole looked on as the golden shine of Tatooine completely absorbed their view. The situation was now most dire. A smorgasbord of buttons and miniature lights flickered on and off the Star Sparrow’s pilot controls, seemingly signaling the crew’s end.
“Here it comes!” Cole warned.
“Brace yourself, sir! Even if we survive the atmosphere, its still gonna to be a bumpy landing!”
“You just worry about the landing, Pilot. I’ll keep the ship in one piece!”
The solitude of deep meditation had no choice but to come to Master Wan Yee quickly. Cole had no time to waste. Within seconds, the Jedi Master began to summon all the power of the Force that he could muster, enabling him to hold the inner bearings of the ship together. Back and forth, the dying vessel shifted, giving no peace to its occupants.
With each shove of turbulence, Cole’s concentration was tested. For if he were to submit to the wrath of the dune planet, all would certainly be lost. Not just his and the padawan’s lives, but possibly the entire New Republic as well.
“HOLD ON!” The Republic pilot yelled greatly.
Wan Yee did not respond to the Pilot’s warning. In some ways, he had left the blazing doom of the Star Sparrow and for a moment, was one with the Force. Like the twin burning suns around them, the Tatooine atmosphere consumed the Star Sparrow in a fiery shell. The Republic Pilot wrestled with the controls to stay on course, while Cole struggled in his seat.
Each minute it took to reach Tatooine’s surface, seemed like seconds to the four passengers praying to survive the trip down. The atmosphere was almost relentless in its attack; battering the Star Sparrow and scorching its exterior. And just when it seemed that all was lost for the crew of the Star Sparrow, they viciously broke through into the sapphire skies of the desert world.
A smile of great happiness and relief emerged from the Republic Pilot. “By the thousand falls of Coruscant…WE SURVIVED!” Rejoiced the Republic Pilot, believing the worst was over. However, Cole Wan Yee was not so easily fooled.
“DO NOT SPEAK SO PREMATURELY!” Yelled Cole, with his eyes still shut. The Pilot couldn’t seem to comprehend why Cole would say such a thing. That was until the Star Sparrow’s orbital controls fizzled out in quick bursts of flames.
This incident took the Pilot by complete surprise, but not nearly as much as what happened next. With another flash of flames, the Star Sparrow began to plummet down toward the sandy surface.
“CAN THOSE FORCE POWERS HELP US NOW?”
“I will try my best. But I’m afraid our fate lies with you, Pilot!”
“JUST HOW I LIKE IT!”
The Republic Pilot shouted in a less than convincing tone. Faster, the Sparrow rocketed through the clouds, losing one of the gun turrets along the way. Beads of sweat flowed from the Republic Pilot’s forehead, as he reeled back on the ship controls as hard as he could, trying to raise the Star Sparrow’s head to level out. The Republic vessel now pushed straight into a death roll, still spiraling downward.
“Please, hurry!” Cole begged, nearly giving into the pressure put onto him by the Force.
“REALLY, JEDI? CAUSE I THOUGHT I’D TAKE A BREAK!”
The few options left scrambled through Cole’s thoughts; knowing that if the head of the Star Sparrow wasn't raised soon, certain death awaited them below. Their time was limited and Cole knew it. Only one idea managed to make sense to him. Wan Yee started his meditation once more, contacting the frightened padawans using Force Telepathy.
“Padawans, listen to me! We must combine our powers and raise the head of the Star Sparrow!” This was a task Cole felt shameful to ask of his students. With each dwindling second, he wished he was strong enough to level the Star Sparrow and save the crew. But like most wishes, his was one that wasn’t easily granted. The Padawans acknowledged their master’s presence through telepathy.
“Of course, Master!” Naudo cheered. The fiery youth was almost too excited to do what must be done. But that was why Cole selected Naudo in the first place. Rarely, was he ever scared to fight the good fight, even at his young age.
This was a trait the even Seraphine in her many years beyond Naudo, resented. She was almost not accepted into the Jedi Order, because of her less than impressive midichlorian count. If not for the intervention of Cole Wan Yee, she would not be a padawan to this day. “Master, I don’t know if I’m strong enough?!”
“WE HAVE NO TIME FOR DOUBT, SERAPHINE! TRUST IN YOURSELF AND THE FORCE. NOW FOCUS!”
Only miles away from the desert floor, the three Jedi focused all their power into ascending their ship. Little by little, the Republic vessel started to rise up, overpowering the gravitational pressure. Perspiration poured from each of their brows, as grunts of pain and the grinding of teeth took form over their flushed faces.
Only a few hundred feet from the ground, it was contemplated that this was the end of everything. With only their sandy graves in sight and no more time to lose. Suddenly, an amazing rapid shift of positioning placed the Star Sparrow partially upright. Reacting quickly to the change, the Republic Pilot tore back on the ship’s controls and reared upward, narrowly missing the world's vast mineral mountains.
Now, once again in full control of the ship, the Republic Pilot landed the Star Sparrow into the planet's golden sea. Both he and Cole each took in a much needed deep sigh of relief.
“I…I did it!” Gloated the Republic Pilot, earning a dumbfounded look of shock from his Jedi co-pilot.

These are great updates. I'm sorry for not posting sooner. Your Sith are great, and are just creepy enough to be eintimidating, but still a mystery. Also...Yay for Tionne! I love that character, and she is not in nearly enough fics.
Cole is great as always, and I can't wait to see what you have planned next. Great job.

CHAPTER 4: THE COMING EVIL
Hollowed space fell before the path of the Tyrant, personal ship of Darth Caina. Aboard this weapon of destruction, the three sith commanders were in conference over the history of the Exiles.
“So why exactly are these exiles so important, anyway? What makes them so dangerous?” Tade complained, as he skimmed over the stolen Jedi file.
Caina rolled her eyes at the Rancor Captain. “They’re hardly dangerous, Tade. But they have the potential to become a threat to the Master’s plans.”
“Then why not destroy them? Why do we have to capture them?”
“Because…it is Lord Narius’ will that they be captured.” Uncertainty, distrust, these were the feelings emitting from the Sith Apprentice. Why did Tade’s questions make sense to her? This fool was never known to say anything that would challenge Caina’s loyalty to her Master’s commands.
The very idea that she was thinking this was a sign that something dastardly was involved in her arriving fate. Unaware to Caina, Neevog had picked up on the confused nature of his master, through the Force. “Master, I sense confusion within you. Is something wrong?”
There were no words to describe her embarrassment. Her pupil had caught a glimpse into one of her most unsheltered moments. For this, she could not allow herself to ponder these thoughts any longer. “Do not read into me, Neevog...for I may not allow you to finish.”
Neevog lowered his head in forgiveness. He never had intended to insult his master in any way. “I did not mean you any insult, Master. I simply wish to relieve you of any fear you may have about this mission.”
Caina scoffed unconvincingly at Neevog. “Fear’s only place with the Sith is in the eyes of your enemy. Remember that, apprentice.”
Neevog bowed to Caina again. He felt lucky to have such a powerful Sith warrior as his teacher. Tade, on the other hand, was not so impressed with Caina. He often found himself baffled on why Darth Narius would hold her in such high regard. Personally, if he had his way, the Rancor Captain would put a blaster bolt hole through every Jedi and Sith. If not for the large amount of credits that the Sith Lord was paying him, he might actually attempt that ambition. “I hate to interrupt, but shouldn’t we form a plan of attack.”
“Whatever for? These exiles have been banished for nearly five years. I’d be surprised if they still had the power to levitate a rock.” Neevog’s overconfidence shocked his master. It is true that the Jedi are represented as weaklings compared to the Sith. But to underestimate them in battle was a mistake Caina was not prepared to have her student make.
“Quiet, you fool. Never underestimate the resolve of a Jedi!” Neevog did as his master commanded. “Now, when we reach Tatooine, Neevog will lead three squads of the Mad Rancors into the north and west quadrants of Mos Eisley. Meanwhile, Tade and I will take the rest of the squads and search the east and south sectors.”
Tade’s face shifted with disgust. Clearly, he did not approve of an aspect in Caina’s plan. “Hey! No one gives orders to the Mad Rancors, EXCEPT ME!”
Caina did not respond to Tade’s outburst. Instead, she took three slow steps in front of him and waved her hand before his face. The next thing Tade knew, he was flying backwards through the air and ended with a thunderous crash into the wall.
Shaken by the impact of Caina’s Force Throw, Tade gradually made his way back to his feet. Neevog watched on as the Rancor Captain unsteadily stood up, thinking of how incompetent he was to challenge the Dark Lord’s apprentice? “Tsk…Fool.” Neevog snickered.
Still rocked by his meeting with the wall, Tade fought to reassemble his scrambled thoughts. Soon, anger became his guiding light back to full consciousness.
“I’LL RIP YOUR HEART FROM YOUR CHEST, YOU BANTHA FACED HARLOT!” Tade screamed; then began a mad dash towards Caina. Half way towards his target, the Rancor Captain felt his body go limp. Unknown to what was happening; Tade found himself levitated from the ground up.
The insidious Rancor Captain could feel his bone’s starting to crack and his limbs quickly turning numb. Paralyzed from the neck down, Tade stared on at Caina, who was sporting a malicious grin. “Know this, Tade. To me, you’re nothing more than a bug under my boot! I could crush your bones and explode your organs with nothing more than a thought. So the next time you feel like questioning my orders, do remember how expendable you really are.”
A gagging Tade nodded his head in a twisted, apologetic motion. Caina then released her hold on her captive, swiftly dropping him to the floor. Almost instantly, the Rancor Captain gasped for air, as he lay on his back, shimmering. “*COUGH*…*COUGH*…yes…my lady.”
Caina and Neevog chuckled at this most pathetic sight. When they were through with watching this miserable excuse for a soldier, the two Sith warriors knew it was time to visit the bridge to check on their current mission's status. With one foot out the door, Caina stopped in her tracks and turned back to Tade. “Oh, and by the way, Tade…I have no heart.”
There was not even a flicker of humanity in the Sith Apprentice’s expression as she turned to leave. Dark side energy pulsed like water springs from the eerie halls of the Tyrant, from every inch, every centimeter of its ebony walls. The screams of tortured prisoners echoed from the bowels of the dark vessel; all of which was music to Caina’s ears.
It wasn’t long after they left the conference room, that Caina and Neevog finally arrived at the bridge of the Sith vessel. There, they were met by a Sith Sergeant, holding a report. “Mistress Caina, I have an urgent report about the scout squadron we sent to Tatooine!”
“Get to the point, fool.” Caina replied.
At first, the Sith Sergeant hesitated to speak the information on the report. Perhaps he feared a possible recourse from the Dark Lord’s Apprentice. “Apparently, they have all been destroyed!”
“WHAT! WHO WOULD DARE DESTROY OUR SCOUTS?” Caina demanded to know, reaching deep within herself and releasing a terrifying shout.
“The last recorded visuals from the scout ships show that they engaged a Republican vessel already on route to Tatooine.” This news both horrified and angered Caina. Her source’s information in the New Republic must have been delayed. The Jedi had already arrived at Tatooine!
“THE JEDI ARE ALREADY THERE?” The Sith Apprentice scowled her cheeks in hatred. Those miserable Jedi would no doubt reach the Exiles first. Caina became fearful of the horrors her master would unleash if she failed this mission.
But the Sith Sergeant seemed to have more news that may lighten Caina’s mind. “Doubtful, mistress. The visuals also show that the Republican vessel sustained critical damage before entering Tatooine’s atmosphere. More than likely, they either burned up while in reentry or were killed upon impact with the surface.”
Such simple-minded people seemed to flock around Caina. None of them truly understood the power of the Jedi, or even the Sith. “FOOL! Jedi are not killed so easily as a ship crash.”
“If they are still alive, their means for travel have been seriously hampered. Though finding them will prove difficult.”
But not nearly as difficult as the pain she will suffer from Darth Narius. “I care not! We must find the Exiles before the Jedi do! Now, how long until we've reached Tatooine, Sergeant?”
“Four hours at the most.” Replied scarcely.
“You have two.” Caina stated.
“But, Mistress…” The Sith Sergeant knew such a task would be immensely difficult.
Caina’s stone cold eyes glared viciously at the Sith Sergeant. “Is there a problem?”
The Sith Sergeant knew not to disagree at this point. He merely tilted his head down and spoke in a low, humbled tone. “No…not at all. We’ll be there in two hour’s time, mistress.”
“Good.” Caina smirked.
