SSM12-LOL, thanks. Weird thing is, I wrote that before even hearing of Naruto... and it fits pretty well. Very good thing Michiru didn't try that. And yeah, ten years...

Idrelle-Thanks. grin I always figured Han might have a problem with that. wink A bad feeling? Hmm... tongue

baf-Thanks. Yeah, she's active. And i'd love to see Sailor Jedi. *Calls up Toei* And okay, gotcha there.

Jaded_Girl-Yes, congrats to Ish. happy LOL, yeah. Edible. And I'm glad you thought they were cute. Yeah, Wes is too strong-minded to be affected. And glad you like my Jag. tongue Zekk had a vision, there. And yeah, I can see Leia watching comedies simply to stay sane. Glad you liked Lusa. I love writing her. happy I liked the Souichi/Usagi/Mamoru exchange myself.

Taeniaea-LOL, thanks. Ask and ye shall receive!

Okay, the second part of DarthIshtar's audition for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is this Tuesday. Please, cheer her on!

Here we go!

*****
Ten minutes earlier
Hotaru walked into the cafeteria and instinctively reached out with the Force to locate her friends, but she soon noticed Osaka staring at her with her big, brown eyes.

Osaka wandered over to Hotaru and smiled. “I could feel you looking for us,” she half-whispered in her soft, accented voice.

Hotaru gulped and began walking past her. “Well, yes! Of course you could feel me looking-“ She abruptly slammed into Chiyo-chan, knocking the twelve-year old to the floor and stumbling back a bit herself.

Chiyo-chan’s eyes watered and she began crying while clutching her wrist.

Hotaru’s mouth dropped in horror. “Oh, I’m so sorry, Chiyo-chan!” She bent down to help her up, but hesitated. They might think of me as strange if I show my healing power. Chiyo-chan continued crying and her wrist turned purple, breaking through Hotaru’s resolve.

She looked around with both her eyes and the Force and, satisfied that only Osaka was near; Hotaru placed a hand on Chiyo-chan’s wrist and concentrated. “Please don’t hate me,” she whispered.

A bright light enveloped Chiyo-chan’s wrist. After e half-minute it faded, taking the purplish bruises with it. Chiyo-chan’s brown eyes looked up in wonder. “How did you do that?”

Hotaru’s breath caught in her throat as she sensed no fear from the young one, only gratitude. She quickly glanced over her left shoulder at Osaka, who was simply staring at Chiyo-chan. She turned back to the twelve-year old, her jaw open slightly. “You mean you don’t hate me?”

Chiyo-chan flexed her wrist and arched an eyebrow, somehow looking cute even when sardonic. “Why would I hate you?” She stood up on her toes and hugged Hotaru. “Thank you for healing me.” She then ran off, leaving behind a thoroughly stunned Hotaru and a thoroughly confused Osaka.

The spacey teen stepped forward and stood at Hotaru’s left side. “What did you do to her?” she asked.

Hotaru smiled wanly. “It is…a gift.”

A large smile drifted across Osaka’s face. “It’s a good gift, then.” She turned and wandered off, her big brown eyes following the trail of the bubbles in her eyes.

Yomi and Tomo walked over to the group, both resplendent in their red graduation gowns. Tomo twirled around on her right heel and flung her arms out. “I can’t believe it! We’re graduating!”

Her voice suddenly caught in her throat as she spoke the next few words. “I’m s-so ha-happy.” She also rubbed her eyes. “Damned dust,” she muttered.

Yomi patted her on the shoulder. “It’s all right. We all feel the same way.” She looked to Chiyo-chan and sighed. “We’re all moving on, growing up.”

Tomo rubbed the last bit of moisture from her eyes and sighed melodramatically. “I suppose.” A grin crossed her face and she tried to smack Hotaru on her back, but the nimble Jedi dodged the blow. “I bet she’s so quiet because she’s thinking of her little American boyfriend!” the hyperactive teen exclaimed.

Hotaru let a growl escape her lips and narrowed her eyes until they were little more than chips of quartz. She concentrated for a half-second and let the barest hint of her power out. “You would be wise not to infuriate me, Tomo,” she uttered, her voice dropping several dozen octaves and gaining a rather raspy edge to it.

Tomo backed up, stark terror in her soul. Yomi also backed up and Hotaru regretted frightening her friends. “Sorry.”

Yomi and Tomo exchanged a glance. “It’s… all right, Hotaru,” Yomi said, her eyes closing behind her glasses as she waved her off.

Five minutes later, Miss Yukari entered and shouted. “All right, everyone line up. It’s time.” A low growl escaped her lips. “Uzamaki, Hyuuga, either separate or get a room!”

The blond-haired ‘ninja’ and the gray-eyed heiress broke apart, both blushing furiously. The rest of graduating class milled around a bit before forming itself into two lines.

Hotaru stood next to San Sakaki and the black-haired Amazon looked down slightly at Hotaru, a small smile playing across her lips. “It was nice having you in class,” she said.

Hotaru closed her eyes, tilted her head to the side and smiled. “It was nice meeting all of you.”

A sudden shout from the front startled the two. “Hey, you two! This is no time for that.” Hotaru and Sakaki’s heads whipped around and faced Miss Yukari.

The teacher motioned to a set of double doors and sneered. “All right, kiddies. It’s time for you to grow up. Hell awaits you.” Yukari’s brown eyes narrowed and an evil smile crossed her lips. “Fun time is over. All that is left is…”

Hotaru blocked the sound of Miss Yukari’s voice from her head. Sure enough, a rather exasperated PE teacher quickly dragged off the crazed English teacher. Twenty seconds later, the double-line of students marched out of the cafeteria and across the campus to the gym.

The rest of the ceremony was a blur for Hotaru. She still has only vague memories of sitting down, rising to get her diploma and sitting back down. One thing was crystal clear, though-Anakin in the front row.

When the principal called her name to the stage, she almost seemed to float up and over. As her hand clutched the leather-bound piece of paper, a sudden vision assaulted her…

Hotaru floated over the Great Temple on Yavin IV as it lay in shadow. She glanced up and saw the gas giant overhead as it was blotted out by a black swarm of ships.

Each one was matte-black, and vaguely resembled a spider. The main body was a backward arrowhead with eight…legs sticking out and pointing forward. Two projections stuck out of the front with an uncanny resemblance to mandibles.

The raven-haired Senshi’s breath caught in her throat before she screamed at the sight of Sailor Yavin and Kam Solusar. The Jedi Masters stood back to back on the landing field in front of the Jedi Academy.

Yavin’s Chains of Annihilation swirled about her, skewering creatures right out of Hotaru’s worst nightmare. Kam’s silvery lightsaber, meanwhile, slashed and cut a swath through their ranks. But for every five he killed, ten more took their place…

Hotaru’s violet eyes focused once more on the present. She looked in front of her and saw the principal standing there with a worried look on his face. “Are you all right?” he asked.

Hotaru stiffly nodded and took the diploma before hurrying off the stage.

Setsuna and Rei tracked her and let out a simultaneous sigh. “She knows something,” Rei said. “She’s had a vision from the Force.”

Setsuna nodded. “I must speak with her.”

The shrine priestess shook her head. “No. We must speak to her, and that’s a fact.”

The Senshi of time let a rare smile crack her normally iron visage. “Is that so, Tenel Ka?”

Rei's eyebrows shot up in surprise. She crossed her arms in front of her, stuck her nose up in the air and turned her head away from Setsuna.

A short sigh escaped Setsuna’s lips as she saw Naruto receive his diploma. For a moment, the streams of reality crossed and she envisioned him as he claimed to be-a powerful ninja, skilled and protector of his Village.

After another ten minutes, the graduates stood up and marched out of the gym. Rei, Minako, Makoto, Kyp, Usagi, Ami and Mamoru quickly exited Jubaan High and went to Rei's Temple to prepare it for a small party later that day.

Haruka, Setsuna, Michiru, Souichi and Anakin, meanwhile, left the gym and quickly located Hotaru. She stood with a group of her friends and chatted amicably. Souichi had never seen his daughter this happy.

Suddenly, Hotaru turned and saw the quintet. She hugged Hinata before running over to Anakin and kissing him on the cheek. “Thanks again for coming.”

Suddenly, one of Hotaru’s friends looked up and gasped. She ran over to Haruka and bowed. “You’re Ten’ou Haruka!” Tomo burst out. She lifted up her graduation robe and pulled out a picture of Haruka standing in front of her racecar. “May I please have an autograph?”

While Haruka signed the picture, Hotaru guided Anakin away from Tomo. “She’s a bit…crazy,” Hotaru said. The couple turned around, only to almost run into Chiyo-chan, Sakaki, Yomi and Osaka.

Yomi adjusted her glasses and looked Anakin over. She then sighed and shook her head. “Hotaru, you are damned lucky.”

The young man felt sweat form on his brow as Osaka stepped forward. For some reason, she seemed to block most attempts to scan her through the Force. Osaka tilted her head to the side and chuckled. “You’re a nice man.”

Before Anakin could make any sense out of that statement, Osaka ran off and quickly disappeared into the crowd. Anakin and Hotaru exchanged a quick glance of confusion before turning back to the adults.

Tomo was fawning over Haruka, who was enjoying every minute of it. “Oh, and the Grand Prix in 1995! I loved that race!”

Yomi and Chiyo-chan, meanwhile, were talking with Michiru. “Your concerts with the San Francisco Philharmonic during the 1990’s are some of my favorites!” Chiyo-chan said.

Yomi nodded. “Yeah, they were good, but I loved your duets with Huey Lewis and the News even more.”

Chiyo-chan’s lips pursed at that comment, but she said nothing more.

Setsuna abruptly stepped forward and insinuated herself between Tomo and Haruka. “It is time to go,” she stated. Both Haruka and Tomo groaned, but the Senshi of time sent Haruka and Michiru a telepathic message through the Force. Time is of the essence.

At that, the blond Senshi stepped back. “We must depart,” she said, bowing to Tomo.

Michiru sidestepped Yomi and Chiyo-chan and grabbed both Anakin and Hotaru and hauled them off. Souichi simply bowed to the graduates before ambling off, recording all the while.

Twenty minutes later
Michiru pulled into the parking lot near the Shinto Temple where Rei lived. She glanced back at her passengers and sighed. “Oh, it wasn’t that bad! You’re all still alive, right?”

Anakin groaned and clutched his stomach. “Alive, but not liking it,“ he said between clenched teeth.

Hotaru was several shades paler than usual, and Setsuna’s dark skin had a decidedly greenish tint to it.

The three turned their head simultaneously and stared daggers at Michiru, who simply held her hand to her chin in thought. “My driving wasn’t that bad, was it?”

She looked over at the passenger seat at Souichi. Anything she might’ve said was lost as she noticed several new indents in the dashboard-each one about the size and shape of one of his fingers. “Yes, it was.”

Michiru harrumphed, exited the car, turned to the ancient temple and walked off. Five minutes later, Haruka pulled up on her motorcycle. She looked over the still-stunned occupants and sighed. “Why does she do this?” he muttered, shaking her head.

The blond Senshi of the wind quickly went to the car and assisted the four out of it. They slowly walked up the one hundred steps to the main temple complex.

Rei stood at the doors in full miko garb. She looked up and arched an eyebrow at the quintet. “We were wondering when you’d get here.” A sneaky smile crossed her lips as she motioned to them. “Come on. The party’s just getting good.”

She led the group past several kiosks and buildings to the back of the temple and into the open field behind the main living quarters. The rest of the Senshi along with Kyp and Mamoru were all around the field, eating and talking.

When Hotaru walked in, everyone paused and clapped at the graduate. Mamoru lifted his glass of punch and said, “I offer a toast. May your two lives be long and happy.” Everyone else raised their glass and echoed Mamoru’s sentiment.

Hotaru stepped forward and bowed. “I thank you for the well wishes, but I don’t want to draw this out.” She turned back to Setsuna. “I simply need to talk with you in private before leaving.”

Hotaru grabbed the sleeve of Setsuna’s jacket and hauled her off. Rei started off after them, but a look from both Setsuna and Hotaru stopped the priestess in her tracks.

Kyp walked over to Rei. “What was that about?”

Rei shrugged. “It is between them, Kyp. Mere immortals such as us have no business in their discussion.”

Hotaru half-dragged Setsuna to an old maintenance shed near the back of the temple. As they entered the shadow of the building, she looked up slightly at the Senshi of time and spoke. “I had a vision, a disturbing one. Yavin was being attacked by these…things.” She glanced to the floor, her voice quivering. “Can you tell me anything?”

Setsuna’s scarlet eyes flashed. “No.”

She reached out with a comforting hand, but Hotaru shook her head and batted it away. “No. I don’t want to be comforted, Setsuna. I want answers. What were those things?”

The guardian of the time gate let a short growl out. “I cannot tell you, Hotaru, and you know that!” She reached out with both hands and grabbed Hotaru’s shoulders, forcing the Senshi of death to make eye contact with her. “Things are in motion now that cannot be stopped, nor should they be stopped.”

Hotaru’s violet eyes flashed, and when she spoke, the words could’ve frozen lava. “Very well, Setsuna. I shall refrain from finding out more about my vision. But mark my words, I shall be ready when they come.”

Setsuna nodded. “I hope you will be.” The two stood for a moment in deafening silence before leaving the shed and making their way back to the party.

And glad you like my Jag.

Well, the word "like" is a bit too generous to the character itself. But I DO like your characterization better! ^_^

Excellent post. Always love graduations. It was great that Anakin was able to attend Hotaru's high school graduation. If he didn't...well I wouldn't want to be in his shoes when mini-Death Star goes after him. So...Osaka can't be mind scaned huh? Interesting. Then again...those Azumanga Daioh girls are kinda weird anyway. tongue

Oh...Happy 29th Birthday! It won't be TOO long before I turn 29(well...5 years isn't TOO long is it?).

Two and a half months later
Han paced outside the infirmary, his legs achy from the nearly three hours of pacing since Mara had gone into labor. He, Leia and Chewie had been living on Yavin IV for the past week since Leia didn’t want to miss the big event. He didn’t mind too much, though. It gave him a chance to work on the Falcon, and Chewie and Lowie were having a grand old time out in the jungles of Yavin IV.

Suddenly, Leia’s eyes left the datapad she was halfheartedly reading. She looked over to the door just as Luke walked out and rose to her feet.

A fine sheen of sweat was slicked across his brow, but the huge grin across his face told the whole story. “I’m a dad.”

Han let out a whoop and clapped Luke across the back, nearly knocking him off his feet. “Ha, hah! Wait to go, kid!” he exclaimed. “Trust me, fatherhood’s the best thing in the galaxy.”

Leia got up and gave her twin a big hug. “I’m so happy for you.” She looked into the room and glimpsed Mara in the room. “Can we go in?”

Luke nodded and the three entered the room. Han pulled out his comlink and turned it on. “Chewie? Mara’s given birth.” A synthetic roar of joy came over the tinny speakers. “Yeah, that’s good. Be here as soon as possible, okay?” He turned to the bed and saw Mara and Cilghal. “Hey, Red,” he half-whispered.

The Mon Cal Jedi master swiveled her right eye up and looked at the three without even turning her head. “I’d like to introduce you to the newest member of the Skywalker clan, Lyria Skywalker.”

Leia looked at Mara and felt empathy for her sister-in-law. She looked incredibly tired, but was positively glowing with the Light Side.

Mara cradled young Lyria and looked up with tired green eyes. “Hi, there.”

Han walked over and, with a big grin on his suddenly goofy-looking face, pulled up a chair and sat down next to the bed. “Hi, Lyria!” He started making faces at her, but the baby immediately began fussing and crying.

With a bit of embarrassment, Leia grabbed her husband’s arm and dragged him out. “Come on, Han. The new parents need some time alone.”

They exited out just as Lowie and Chewie burst into the waiting room. The older Wookiee spoke and pointed to the waiting room. [Has Mara given birth yet?]

Han nodded and patted his best friend on the arm. “Yup, but Princess here wants us to give them a wide berth.”

Lowie chuckled a bit [When can we see her?]

Leia looked back and saw Luke sitting in the chair, cradling his daughter and rocking back and forth a bit. Mara had scooted over to the edge of the bed waggled her fingers at her daughter. “Give them a couple more minutes. Then we can be the meddling in-laws.”

The jungles of Yavin IV
Calaveras observed the landing of one of the many supply freighters that had touched down since she arrived. Several times she was even able to sneak aboard the ships and study them, security being incredibly lax. Almost no one activated the internal security devices, leaving her with free reign aboard until they returned.

The shell was no technological fool. The original did grow up in the thirty-first century, after all. And this shell possessed all of her memories and knowledge…

Her reverie was broken when she observed a freighter land in the clearing. It was nothing more than a pressurized box with an engine, but it would suit her needs. Over the past few days, a string of numbers had formed in her mind and was constantly running through, but she had no idea how she thought of them or even what they were.

All she knew was she needed to get off this stinking moon. She waited until the pilot left the freighter and, just like always, the entry hatch was wide open. Calaveras darted out of the jungle and ran to the freighter. Her high-heeled boots slammed against the deck plating as she entered and instinctively made her way to the cockpit. She slid into the pilot’s chair and quickly glanced over the control panel.

She sealed the ship and activated the repulsorlift engines, sending the freighter up into the sky. Calaveras stabbed a button on the console with her finger, firing up the main thrusters and sending the ship out of the atmosphere and into space.

Several X-wing fighters took off in a pursuit attempt, but the freighter already clearing the gravity well by the time they had even launched. She glanced at the control panel again and saw a keypad situated right below a screen.

The shell’s hand traveled across the keypad, inputting the string of numbers in her head. A light on the console soon turned green and Calaveras pulled back on a lever, plunging the ship into hyperspace.

A few minutes earlier, Uldir Lochet walked out of his freighter, cargo manifest in hand and not a care in Known Space. This was Yavin IV, after all. He briefly wondered if Tahiri or Anakin were here and if his application to join the Rescue Corps had gone through…

A very familiar whoosh drew his attention back to his precious ship. He turned around and saw his freighter, his life’s work, rising into the sky. Uldir dropped the manifest and pointed to the sky. “My ship! Someone’s stealing my ship!” He looked back to the Great temple and saw Kam and Tionne running down the steps.

“What’s going on?” Kam yelled.

Uldir looked up at the dwindling speck of his ship. “It’s gone,” he squeaked out.

Tionne half-closed her silvery eyes and stretched out with the Force. The freighter was already almost out of the system, but Tionne was able to sense something…familiar from the thief.

She and Kam looked at each other. “How could a someone live out in the jungles and not be detected?” Kam asked.

The Elven Jedi Master shrugged. “Qorl eluded us for over twenty years. It might have been him.” She tilted her head to the side. “Or maybe not…”

Uldir let a groan escape his lips as he sank to his knees. “It doesn’t matter who it was. My ship’s gone.”
*****
Three Months Later, August 2005
With a flash of light, the stolen cargo freighter dropped out of hyperspace and approached a planet and the moon known as Dxun, a nexus of Dark Side energy. Only the destroyed world of Korriban held as much raw Dark Side power.

Calaveras’ brown eyes looked out at the jungle moon and licked her dry lips. The shell didn’t even remember the last time she had something to drink or eat, and it didn’t matter. All she cared about was this place and what secrets it may hold.

The stolen ship dove through the atmosphere and approached a clearing near a mountain. Calaveras maneuvered the freighter over the small patch of grass and set it down. She then checked to make sure she had her whip before shutting down the engines and leaving the freighter behind.

She walked for a few hundred meters before finally approaching a large hole at the base of the mountain. Twin spires of rock jutted from the ground right before the entrance and a howling wind blew through the gaping hole. The shell suppressed a shiver of her bare shoulders before creeping in.

As she passed the entrance, torches on either side flared to life, sending out a fiery glow. All along the wall, torches blazed, leading to a gray tomb at the end of the cavern. Calaveras tentatively approached it, egged on by voices and feelings she did not recognize.

Her hollow eyes picked out odd-looking glyphs and pictures carved into the walls. They depicted terrible eight-limbed creatures, robed humanoids and sycophantic worshippers. She was so entranced by the images, she didn’t even notice the humanoids standing in front of the tomb until she almost passed through them.

“Ah!” she yelled, backing up and falling on her behind.

The two ghosts looked down at her and cackled. “That was funny!” the first one said. His translucent, translucent form wavered a bit as he laughed at her. A cloak hid his body, but Calaveras could see his face. He wore a helmet with twin crystalline horns spiraling out and an amulet on a chain adorned his neck.

The other shade was shaved bald with tattoos around his eyes and a cage surrounding his entire head. A perpetual scowl was etched onto his mouth and his stare, even as a ghost, was penetrating.

The first man spoke again, all traces of fun gone. “We have been waiting for you, Calaveras. You shall provide us with the vengeance we were unable to get in life and now seek in death.”

Calaveras got to her booted feet and snarled, waving a clenched fist at them. “Who are you? And why was I brought here?”

The second man spoke. “My companion is Xendor. He was the second being in our galaxy to embrace the Dark Side. My name is Darth Bane. I resurrected the Sith after Ruusan.”

Xendor turned back to Calaveras. “You have been charged with a mission. Annihilate this galaxy. Lay waste to it.”

Calaveras’ eyebrows arched in surprise. “And if I don’t want to?” she asked, not quite sure of what to make of these turn of events.

Bane sneered. “Oh, please. The need for vengeance is etched into your very soul-if you had one.”

Calaveras’ right hand went to her whip, but she soon realized she wouldn’t do much damage to a spirit. Her eyes dropped to the floor as she spoke. “You’re…right.” She looked back up, her eyes ablaze. “Sailor Galaxia created me as a weapon. So now I shed all vestiges of the Phantom Sister I was based on.” She held her arms up into the air “How may I spread death?”

A chuckle escaped Xendor’s lips. “We shall provide you with a weapon, knowledge and an army.” He stepped back and motioned to the cavern wall behind the tomb. A sheathed sword and a book with metallic pages rested on a shelf hewn from the living rock itself.

“Skywalker destroyed ‘a’ Book of the Sith on Korriban, but it was a children’s primer compared to this one. And the sword is mine from when I first rebelled against the Jedi of old.” Xendor turned back to Calaveras. “Bane, tell her the rest and prepare her. I wish to converse with Zannah now.”

Xendor soon faded, leaving Calaveras with Bane. He looked at the golden bracelets adorning Calaveras and motioned to them. “That is your one weakness.” He looked over at the tomb the top slab levitated off and floated to the ground in front, revealing a murky fluid beneath.

Bane’s ghostly arm drifted over it and foam began bubbling. “Stick your hands in.”

Calaveras’ nose wrinkled at it, but she walked over and stuck her dainty hands up to her elbows. The fluid glowed for a moment, but Calaveras’ scream echoed for all the way into night…
*****
The next morning
When she awoke, Calaveras’ eyes drifted to her arms. The golden bracelets around her wrists…were no longer golden. With a cry of pain, she stumbled to her feet and looked them over. “What is this?” she wondered.

The bracelet’s color had turned from bright gold to a dull oily black. Light seemed almost to slide off the metal. She looked up and saw Xendor floating nearby. “Sith alchemy has altered the very structure of the metal. Now almost nothing can destroy them.” He started fading away, but before he did, he spoke one last time.

“Go the edge of the galaxy and enter these coordinates into your hyperdrive computer. Stay in hyperspace for sixty seconds, then deactivate the hyperdrive. It will take you to your army. Land on their planet and say ‘I am of the Sith. Korriban calls for revenge.”

And with that, Xendor vanished once more. His voice, however, echoed one final time in her mind. I dub you, Darth Calaveras.

Darth Calaveras walked over to the stone shelves and picked up the Book of the Sith and the Sword of the Sith before dashing out. Within ten minutes, the stolen freighter climbed into the sky and vanished into hyperspace.

Xendor and Bane watched from the mouth of the cave as Calaveras left. Bane’s eyes narrowed. “I still think this is a bad idea.”

Xendor chuckled. “She has my weapon. That alone will be enough.” He turned his head and looked up slightly at the first Dark Lord of the Sith. “Besides, Mara Jade destroyed the other Sith Sword on that blasted moon.”

Dark clouds rolled in as Bane's anger spiked. “Ajunta Pall stole that weapon from Vouppi’s grave before he was exiled! It was a sacred object and contained our progenitor’s spirit.”

Xendor shrugged. “Yes, well we shall succeed where Xim failed.” He looked back up at the sky. Rain now fell in sheets as lightning arced across the sky.
*****
December 2005
It was the very edge of the galaxy, as much as any galaxy could have an edge. A flash of croneau radiation signaled the arrival of the freighter Calaveras had stolen so long ago. The ship now ran on power packs scavenged from the cargo holds, with life support system turned off to conserve power when Calaveras realized she didn’t need to breathe.

She could breathe. She just didn’t have to.

The latest Dark Lord of the Sith looked out the viewport at the utter blackness beyond. She tore her eyes away from the starless view and looked at the navicomputer. Her fingers flew across the keyboard as she inputted the coordinates and pulled down on the activation lever.

The blackness of space twisted and turned into a reddish blur. Calaveras silently counted down from sixty and. when she reached it, she pushed the lever back up.

A gasp escaped her lips at the sight of Gigantic whirlpools scattered all about her field of vision. At the center of each lay an immense black hole, sucking up the fabric of space itself.

Calaveras checked the sensors and found about twenty star systems grouped together in the space of less than twenty light years. Proximity alarms blared and the lighting switched from normal to red. Calaveras checked the sensors and growled as six unidentified vessels approached. She opened the comm channel and spoke.

“Take me to your homeworld. I have things to discuss with your leader.”

The ships maneuvered into an escort formation around her. The comm crackled to life with a series of unintelligible clicks and snarls, punctuated by slurping noises.

Calaveras’ already pale skin lightened by several shades. She grabbed the Book of the Sith, opened it up and leafed through the metal pages. She half-closed her eyes and chanted, “Their words shall be made clear/I shall know all that they hold dear!”

The noise instantly changed into harsh, guttural words. “Who are you? Why do you brave Otherspace and the Charon?”

Calaveras smiled. “I am your new leader. Ajunta Pall has sent me.”

There was a pause before; “Follow us to the Void of Death.” And then silence reigned.

Ten minutes later, the freighter entered the nearest star system. Space itself was so twisted in this realm, sublight drives were sufficient for inter-solar travel. Calaveras grimaced at the sight of a single ball of rock orbiting a dim, dying star. And even that star orbited a huge black hole.

Calaveras checked the ship’s sensor and unsurprisingly found the star on the edge of the event horizon. It would fall to its death in moments-or never. Somehow, that comforted the shell.

As the freighter descended, the sky outside the viewport didn’t even change to blue or gray. It was as black as space on the ground as in the void. The freighter shuddered slightly as the landing gear made contact with the hard ground below.

Calaveras belted the sheath of her weapon to her back and picked up the Book of the Sith before exiting the freighter. Several…things stood in front of the main hatch.

Each one was half-humanoid, half-arachnid. Their abdomens were supported by four clawed legs, while the humanoid torsos had four arms, each ending in a clawed hand that gripped some sort of weapon. Pale yellow eyes stared at Calaveras and short, coarse fur covered their bodies.

Their ranks parted, allowing an absolutely huge arachnid to approach. It-he was almost three meters tall and held some sort of staff in two of his hands. His yellow eyes looked down upon Calaveras and spittle dripped from his mandibles as he spoke. “You have penetrated otherspace, worm! Why have you come?”

Calaveras locked her brown eyes with his yellow eyes and spoke. “I am of the Sith. Korriban calls for revenge.”

The arachnid’s mandibles clicked together in shock. He bowed at the waist and said, “I am the Prophet of the Void and leader of the Charon.”

The Sith Lord let out a breath at the name. Now I know what to call them. She looked over at the other ‘Charon’ and raised her voice. “What is your purpose?”

One of them shouted and raised his staff to the sky. “We seek to destroy all life in the galaxy!” Various others muttered their agreement, sending firth a dull roar of sound.

Calaveras nodded. “Then let me lead you to that goal.” She unsheathed the Sword from its scabbard and held it up high. “Let me lead you out of here! Gather your ships!”

One of the smaller Charonians shouted, “We cannot! A hyperdrive is needed to escape otherspace!”

A sneer crossed Calaveras’ lips. She turned and pointed the Sword at the freighter behind her. “I have such a device aboard my vessel. Study it and build more.”

The Prophet shrugged his two upper arms. “That may take time.”

The Sith Lord turned back. Her head tilted down slightly, casting her eyes into shadow. “I am immortal. Time has lost all meaning now.” Calaveras looked up and lightning danced around her eyes. “Get to work, now!”

So...Calaveras has joined the ranks of the Sith Lords...she has a lot of work to do still. I'll help her along by steering her ship into the nearest black hole.

May 2006
The Jade Saber spun and dove in a desperate attempt to avoid incoming fire. Several scarlet laser bolts hit the Saber’s shields, however, weakening them. One bolt had enough residual energy to leave a black streak right below the cockpit’s windows.

Beside Anakin, Hotaru sat in the copilot’s chair and fired off the forward laser cannons. She glanced over at him and sighed. “I can’t seem to hit anything!” The ship shuddered as several more bolts found their mark. “Oh, come on!”

Anakin’s eyes checked the sensor and he let part of his mind wander to how this started. He, Hotaru and Lowie were simply checking out pirate activity near the Unknown Regions. This nameless system was the fifth one checked in the past week and would’ve been bypassed-except for an odd ‘feeling’ everyone received.

As they orbited the jungle world, Lowie’s eyes were fixated on the world. When Hotaru asked him about it, he looked over with an aura of sadness and said, [I don’t know, Hotaru. I just feel…something.]

Em Teedee simply hovered around, unable to help his master and even looking forlorn at his inability to be useful.

Hotaru nodded at him. “I can empathize with-“ She suddenly stopped and looked at the cabin door. “We have trouble,” she muttered.

Lowie nodded and made his way to the engine room in the aft section of the cruiser, Em Teedee floating behind. Suddenly, the deck beneath Hotaru’s feet pitched, nearly slamming her into the bulkhead. She held out her arm and blocked the crash, also biting back a curse as she made her way to the copilot’s chair.

Anakin glanced over at her. “We’ve apparently found their base.”

Hotaru’s violet eyes flashed as she strapped in and powered up her console. “Now we must survive to tell the tale.”

A grim smile lit Anakin’s normally stoic face. “That’s the trick, isn’t it?” Anakin was brought back to the present by a whoop from Hotaru as she managed to shoot down about five ‘ugly’ fighters-fighters cobbled together from different classes of ships.

Unfortunately, the rest were a mixture of X-wings, TIE interceptors and even an early model B-wing. A large cargo ship, little more than a pressurized bow with a bank of engines on the stern and a bridge module on a dorsal plate, loomed about 20,000 kilometers away. The forward cargo doors were open, revealing a hold sloppily converted into a hangar deck.

“That’s their weakness,” he said as he glanced at it.

Hotaru didn’t even look up from the controls as she spoke. “What is? Oh, the hangar deck!”

He glanced at her. “Did you read my mind?”

Hotaru let a mirthless chuckle escape her lips before hitting a switch on her control panel, activating the comm. “Lowie, we’ll need maximum engine output in thirty seconds.”

In the engine room, Lowie roared as his furry paws held a multitool. “Master Lowbacca understands your needs, Master Anakin, but is unsure if he can accomplish such a task!”

Anakin’s tinny voice came over again. “I have confidence in you, Lowie,” before the intercom buzzed and crackled.

The Wookiee Jedi paused for a moment before kneeling down and ripping a panel off of a bulkhead. His furry but dexterous paws fiddled with some wires before he looked up and yelled, [Okay, kid. Try it now!]

In the cockpit, Anakin whistled as the engine readouts quickly hit maximum output. “We’ll have one chance at this.”

Hotaru’s gaze stayed fixated on the weapons control. The Saber bucked and shuddered around them, but Anakin kept a steady course to the pirate ship. The twin laser cannons mounted on the stubby bow spat continuous laser bolts, keeping the dozen enemy fighters at bay. Hotaru even managed to hit the lone B-wing’s cockpit with a direct hit, shearing off the tubular projection and sending the long blade-like wing spiraling off into infinity.

The cargo ship’s maneuvering thrusters fired and the ponderous bulk swung around in an attempt to hide its exposed bay, but Anakin activated the starboard aft and port fore thrusters, slewing the nimble cruiser around and parking it right in front of the open maw.

Two small hatches popped open on the bow, disgorging a pair of proton torpedoes. They streaked to the cargo ship and impacted at delayed intervals. The first exploded against the shields, sending forth a spectacular explosion and plume of plasma fire. The second punched right through and exploded right inside the hangar bay, cracking the forward section open like an egg.

The entire forward hull bulged for a moment before splitting along welding seams. The engine flared before dying, and the entire mass of wreckage began drifting into the atmosphere…

Anakin let a breath out. “That ends the pirate menace,” he said. Suddenly, the ship lurched and bucked as alarms began blaring. The remainder of the pirate fighters were now on the Saber’s tail and apparently had gone for broke.

Hotaru leaned forward and targeted the aft laser cannons. Tracking sensors found firing solutions for the turreted weapons and they swiveled slightly, firing off blood-red laser bolts. Several TIE fighters were blown to pieces, but the X-wings, with their shields, were able to survive a few hits and give back what they took.

The Saber’s shields glowed a sickly yellow as they absorbed punishment. Eventually they failed, allowing the pirates to target the hull itself.

Anakin sent the Saber into a series of jukes and turns, but no matter what Anakin did, they stayed target. He and Hotaru let out a simultaneously groaned.

If it were Jaina piloting, she’d be able to get us out of this mess.

If it were Mara at weapons, she’d be able to shoot those fighters down.

Anakin scowled at his girlfriend. “That’s not fair, Hotaru. You haven’t been in our reality long and learning how to fire laser cannons wasn’t exactly top priority.”

Hotaru scowled right back. “And it’s not fair to think such things about yourself, Anakin. We’re outnumbered seven-“ she paused as the last TIE fighter exploded, “six to one. Even Wedge Antilles would be hard-pressed to deal with this.”

A roar soon carried over the speakers. [The starboard engine’s a loss and we’ve got multiple hull breaches. Better put her down, Anakin.]

Em Teedee wailed over the comm. “We’re doomed!”

Anakin rolled his eyes at the droid. “Fine, but we’ll have to contend with the last of the fighters.”

A sadistic grin crossed Hotaru’s face. “Perhaps the Saber’s laser cannons and my aiming are simply inadequate to the task at hand.” And with that, she rose from the copilot’s chair and exited the cockpit.

Anakin turned his head slightly back and shouted after her, “Where are you going?” but by the time he was able to speak, she was already in the main cabin.

She held aloft her transformation wand and shouted, “Saturn Crystal Power Makeup!” A blizzard of ribbons swirled around her, melting her clothes and reforming them into a Sailor Fuku complete with a purple bow on front and miniskirt. Matching knee-high boots and elbow-length gloves completed the ensemble.

Sailor Saturn walked over to a locker and opened it, pulling out an emergency ripcord. It was a flexible piece of material, but able to withstand tremendous force applied to it.

Saturn soon received a telepathic message from Anakin. What are you doing?

She entered an airlock on the port side and closed it while attaching the tether to a clip on the airlock. I am simply making due with what I have. And with that, she vented the air and opened the door, stepping out into infinity.

Saturn’s right hand extended and a long, black pole topped by two blades appeared in it. She spun it around her Silence Glaive with one hand as she floated around. The remaining six fighters were focusing on the Jade Saber’s aft in a final attack, paying no mind to the little girl floating about

The Senshi of death held her Silence Glaive out and thought, Death Ribbon Revolution! The blades of her weapon, each powerful enough to withstand lightsaber plasma, glowed brightly before disgorging dozens of multi-colored energy ribbons. They sliced into the pirate fighters, strobing over their shields for mere milliseconds before penetrating and slicing them into metallic flotsam. None of them even saw it coming.

Sailor Saturn reached out and grabbed onto the tether, using it to pull herself back into the airlock. She sealed the airlock and sent Anakin a message. All clear.

Anakin set a course for the planet below. Atmospheric insertion was quite difficult with only the port engine, but the young man knew he had no choice in the matter. It was either do or die, as the old cliché went. He gripped the steering controls tightly, his mind wondering to his family, his friends and how they were doing.

In the engine room, Lowie’s sense of uneasiness grew as they descended. Something down there felt…familiar. He couldn’t place his claw on it, but something-someone waited there.

He suddenly turned from a panel he was working on and dove back mere seconds before it exploded, sending out a gout of flame and debris. The tongue of fire enveloped his left leg, burning off his fur and searing the flesh beneath.

Lowie roared in agony, but slowly hauled himself to his feet and, while using several consoles as impromptu crutches, worked his way over to an exposed junction and pulled down on a lever.

Em Teedee hovered around the Wookiee, totally impotent but wanting to do something, anything to help out his master.

The Wookiee spoke before sinking to the floor and entered into a Jedi healing trance. The little translator droid bobbed in acknowledgement, then hovered up to a speaker grille embedded in the bulkhead and spoke. “Master Anakin, Master Lowbacca says that braking thrusters are fully operational. However, he has just passed out from injuries sustained. Oh, curse my useless body!”

Anakin nodded. “Thanks, Em Teedee.” He sympathized with the droid, but could do nothing himself. He gripped the controls so tightly he left tiny little indents in the control stick as he guided the gray-hulled cruiser through the atmosphere.

The color of the sky shifted from black to purple and to royal blue within seconds. He aimed for…well, there was no real time to aim for anything. The entire planet was a jungle as far as he could see.

Anakin jabbed a button on the console and tiny jets of exhaust shot out of nozzles located on the ventral surface of the bow, slowing the Jade Saber down. Still, the cruiser hit the jungle at quite a good clip, plowing through the centuries-old growth and digging an impressive trench.

The young man quickly noted a brown smear in the treetops. He almost dismissed it as a simple tree trunk, except it had eyes…
