These guys are tougher than a Rachmaninoff piece I’ve been working on off-duty.

Awesome! grin

“I apologize for that, but I do not want anyone thinking of me as a god.” He let go of the woman’s shoulders before backing off.

Poor Mamo-chan! ^_^

Makoto and Kyp stood there, lightsabers, transformation wands and roses at the ready. “What kept you?” he teased.

Heh. Classy!

The lead Charon paused before the quartet, his mandibles dripping saliva and his multi-faceted eyes twitching. [Who are you?]

They're the smackdown committee! So you better hold on to your mandibles! Boo-yeah! peace

Ahhh! Up! Up up up up up! praying

Lady_Jade-Yup. And so it begins...[/Kosh] It will be a rough ride, yes. And glad you like my action. happy

Taeniaea-Thank you. happy

SSM12-LOL! I'm glad you liked the kill, there. grin

Jaded_Girl-Thanks. Based a bit on real life, the Rach. bit. Mamoru's like that, after all.

baf-LOL. Will you present the medal? And thanks. I'm glad I discovered the weakness. tongue Yeah, Earth's no pushover here.

Here we go!

*****
The lead Charon clacked their mandibles and rattled their weapons, but two red-petaled roses soon sprouted from their thick skulls. They dropped to the ground, weapons dropping to the pavement.

Jupiter and Deyer leapt into the heavens and across the distance separating the groups, landing right in the middle of the first wave. The brunette Senshi stabbed the ground with her lightsaber and shouted, “Supreme Thunder!” Bluish-white bolts of electricity streamed around her arms and hands before channeling through the lightsaber handle into the ground, electrocuting about thirty Charon and blowing their corpses away. She then extracted her lightsaber and, along with Deyer, began slicing through their front ranks like a scythe through wheat.

The two stood back to back, lightsabers blocking the alchemically treated weapons of the Charon, turning them away with superior technique and slitting the three-meter tall arachnids open from throat to tail.

The Charon had numbers on their side, though. And no matter how many Jupiter and Deyer cut down, five more took their place.

Finally, a Charon blocked the extended blade from Jupiter’s double-bladed lightsaber and parried it away, allowing him to shoot at her with a blaster pistol. She twisted out of the way and jumped up, kicking him in the head and snapping his neck with a sickening crack.

As he dropped, another arachnid snuck up on her and sliced at her back, opening up a shallow cut along her skin and muscle tissue. Makoto let out a strangled cry, and Deyer’s green eyes went wide as he saw and felt her pain.

“Mako, NO!” he shouted, reaching out and telekinetically shoving back a half-dozen Charon from around her. They slammed into several nearby buildings, shattering panes of glass with a crash. Deyer ran to his beloved, now kneeling in obvious pain.

Blood dripped from the slash across her back as her face tightened into a grimace. “I…can’t focus,” She muttered through gritted teeth.

Deyer suddenly stood up and held his lightsaber high just as several blaster bolts shot at them. He deflected them away, sending several back at the Charon even as they closed in.

Back at the capital building, Tuxedo Mask readied his roses while Sailor Moon raised her wand high. Before she could speak or do anything, though, however, Mask dropped his roses and shoved her out of the way-mere seconds before a hulking limb swiped through the space she occupied previously.

The two rolled through with Sailor Moon shrieking, “Mamo-chan, what are you doing?”

As soon as they stopped rolling and untangled themselves, Mask pointed to an absolutely gargantuan Charon. “Saving you from that, my love!”

The Charon’s mandibles clacked together as he spoke. “I am the Prophet of the Void, and your executioner.” The four-armed arachnid advanced on them, upper arms clutching a golden spear and lower arms holding two blaster pistols in his furry hands.. “I envy you, Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask. You shall embrace oblivion before I do.”

Mask ignited his lightsaber, sending forth a silvery blade. His arm flickered as he tossed it at the Prophet’s head.

The arachnoid simply raised his spear and deflected the plasma blade away, forcing the young man to telekinetically recall the blade back to his gloved hand. He glanced at Tuxedo Deyer and Sailor Jupiter breathed out in relief as he saw her back on her feet again and deflecting blaster bolts while he was flung roses stem first at the advancing horde.

There were hundreds of Charon already there, though, with perhaps thousands waiting in reserve. He turned back to face the Prophet, but gasped as the behemoth appeared right in front! Mask ducked an overhead swing and jumped up, aiming a kick at his head.

The Prophet merely let go of his staff with one hand and swatted at him, knocking him back-and straight into Sailor Moon. She hit her head on the concrete and cratered it, also knocking herself unconscious.

Mask’s blue eyes went wide as he sat up and grabbed her. “Usako? Usako!” he screamed.

The Prophet’s shadow loomed over them as he checked on his wife. He raised his spear high, but Mask unclipped his cane from his belt and held it out along with his lightsaber, parrying the spear away. “You won’t hurt my wife!” he shouted.

While Tuxedo Mask and the Prophet were locked in combat, Mask did a quick scan of his wife and felt something… odd in her mind. Something bad.

The same could sadly be said for Deyer and Jupiter‘s situation. Her back was healing, but her mobility was still limited. And there was no way Deyer would abandon her. The Charon ranks advanced on them, and the horde would envelope them within minutes.

Deyer and Jupiter exchanged a look, she then glanced to their left. “I was wondering when they’d show up,” she said, green eyes sparkling.

About twenty meters away, American M-1 Abrams and M-2 Patton tanks crashed into the middle of the Charon horde, breaking through and spearheading the way for Japanese and American soldiers to wade into the heart of the Charon forces.

The air soon filled with smoke, the sound of machinegun fire and the screams of humans and Charon. Jupiter took advantage of the distraction and concentrated, forming a ball of pure energy in her hand.

She shouted, “Sparkling Wide Pressure!” before throwing at the Charon. It landed and exploded, killing over thirty of them and flinging their bodies about.

While Mask and the Prophet fought, Sailor Moon stirred back into fitful consciousness. A small black cat approached her. “Usagi, are you all right?”

Moon’s blue eyes fluttered open, and she blearily looked into Luna’s yellow orbs. “Luna, I had the weirdest dream…” She sat up, saw Tuxedo Mask dueling with the Prophet and groaned. “Oh, it’s not a dream.”

She shook her head again and attempted a Jedi healing exercise, but it was difficult. She tried standing up, but a wave of nausea swept over her and forced her back to her knees.

Mask spared a half-second to glance at her. “Usako, don’t get up!” he said while holding off the Prophet with all his skill.

It was all Sailor Moon could do to simply say, “Sure thing, Mamo-chan.” She sank back down, unsure of what to do or where to go.

Bespin
Six flashes of croneau radiation heralded the arrival of five X-wings and an old freighter. They approached the gas giant and Cloud City mere hours behind the remnants of the Sixth Fleet.

Sleek, triangular Defender-class star Destroyers, bulbous MC-120 cruisers and Nebulon-B escort frigates orbited the gas giant. Gavin quickly contacted the Defender-class Kenobi. “This is Colonel Darklighter, permission to land?”

A female voice came over. “Sir, we’re directing you to Cloud City. The surviving flag officers are there.”

Rogue One contacted his fellow survivors and wearily directed them to the huge station floating in the habitable zone.

Ten minutes later, Jaina popped the seal on her cockpit and jumped down to the deck. She saw the Lightning Rod landing across the bay and ran to it, reaching it just as Zekk emerged from the main hatch. She leapt into his arms, kissing him passionately. Zekk merely closed his green eyes and hugged his wife close to him as they locked lips.

A grunt from the side caused them to separate. Colonel Darklighter sighed and shook his head at the two. “Are you done?”

Jaina straightened up and saluted. “We’ll continue later sir.”

Gavin let out a chuckle and closed the distance between him and Zekk. The older man extended his hand. “Thanks for bailing us out, Mister Solo.”

Zekk clasped Gavin’s hand and pumped it twice. “No problem, sir.”

Across the hangar, Jag stumbled out of his fighter and made his way across the metal deck. He spotted Jaina and Zekk talking with Colonel Darklighter, but didn’t dare walk over there. He speed-walked out of the hangar, brushing past a dark-skinned man with general tabs on his collar.

Lando Calrissian glanced at Jag before walking over to Gavin, Zekk and Jaina.

Jaina spotted him and smiled. “Lando!” she said, giving him a brief hug.

Lando returned it before turning to Gavin and saluting the younger man. “General Calrissian?” Gavin asked.

The dashing businessman shrugged. “Chief of State Selack reactivated the reserves, and I never bothered to turn in a formal resignation…” He smirked before continuing, his expression becoming serious. “How bad was it?”

Gavin’s brown eyes flickered to the floor. “They swarmed over us like flies over garbage. There wasn’t much strategy, but the sheer number…”

Lando nodded gravely. “That’s what I’ve heard from the other survivors.” He stepped close to Gavin and talked softly. “Actually, you are the highest ranked survivor.”

All the breath in Jaina’s lungs rushed out. Her tanned face turned pale. “Everyone’s…dead?” she whispered.

Lando turned to her and nodded. “I’m sorry, Jaina.”

Zekk placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. “It’ll be all right,” he said, sending soothing thoughts to her.

She turned to him. “I hope so, Zekk. We took quite a beating at Endor.”

Gavin turned his head to the two and licked his lips. “Jaina, you’re on forty-eight hour shore leave as of right now. I’m issuing similar passes for just about everyone else except all command-level personnel.”

He and Lando then walked off before Jaina could squeak out a “thank you!” She looked up into her husband’s jade green eyes. “It’s been a while,” she croaked out.

Her husband nodded, and the two slowly made their way out of the hangar and glided through the crowded Bespin halls.

“I wonder where Anja’s room is,” Jaina said absentmindedly.

Zekk shrugged. “I don’t know. Anja’s… not really on my mind right now.” He turned to her and pressed his lips to hers again.

When they eventually parted, Jaina said. “I love you. You know that, right?”

Zekk brushed a lock of brown hair from her eyes as he stroked her cheek. “Yeah, I know.”
*****
Later that night
Jaina tossed and turned, unable to sleep. She slipped out of Zekk’s embrace and rose from their bed, retrieving her lightsaber and tying it to the sash on her robe before leaving the room. Behind her, Zekk stirred fitfully as she went farther away.

Jaina walked barefoot through the corridors of Cloud City. It was night now, but the floating metropolis was still active. The Jedi Knight simply dipped into the Force and wrapped it around her like a cloak, blinding her to all passerbies.

She followed a trail of misery and sadness until she reached one of the lower levels of Cloud City, finally reaching a bar on the very bottom of the habitat levels. It was empty except for one droid bartender and one customer.

Directly below her feet, machinery hummed and pipes were filled with sloshing liquids. She walked up to the bar and gasped. “Jag!” she cried out, not believing her eyes.

Jagged Fel sat at the bar, completely and totally drunk. He slowly looked up at her through bleary, bloodshot green eyes. “Well, well, well. It’s the ‘goddess‘.” he slurred, raising his hands and waggling his fingers as he said ‘goddess’.

He stood off the barstool, almost falling to the floor if not for a supportive hand from Jaina. He shivered in her grasp. “What can I do for you, oh mighty Sailor Corellia?” Jaina shook her head in utter disbelief. “What the hell are you doing here, Jag? I‘ve never seen you like this-ever.”

Jag let out a short laugh. “What am I doing here? I don’t know. I shouldn’t be here.” He slammed his fist on the bar. “I should be dead, and Uncle Wedge should be here. He was the better pilot… the better man,” he sobbed out, tears falling from his eyes.

Empathy flooded Jaina’s soul. “Oh, god. I’m sorry, Jag.”

He sat back down and cradled a shot of Corellian whiskey. Tears continued to stream down his red cheeks and sobs wracked his body. “It was my fault, Jaina! I should’ve been escorting the Headquarters Frigate, not fleeing under Omega Signal.”

Jaina let some of the Force flow through Jag, calming him somewhat. “It wasn’t your fault. There was nothing you could have done.”

Jag suddenly stood up straight. “You don’t belong here,” he said, his eyes suddenly clear. “You can’t do any good as a fighter pilot… but as Sailor Corellia…” He looked over and pointed past Jaina. “Convince her, Zekk! She can do better elsewhere!”

Jaina looked behind her as Zekk walked in, rather calm. “I know, Jag.” He stopped by Jaina and smiled slightly. “I’ve known ever since we met and shook hands.”

Comprehension dawned on Jaina as she remembered when they met and Zekk wobbled a bit that day. “You mean… you had a Force vision?” she asked. “And you saw us here, in this bar?”

Zekk nodded. “And Jag’s right, Jaina. You don’t belong here anymore. It’s time for you-for us to move on.”

The Rogue nodded, every fiber in her being agreeing with Jag and Zekk. “You’re right. I just… I wonder how Hobbie and Gavin will take it when I resign.”
*****
“You’re what?”

Jaina Swallowed as Lando, Gavin and Hobbie stared up at her from behind a desk in Cloud City’s central administrator’s office. “Yes, sir,” she said, her back ramrod straight. “I feel… I feel that my time with the Rogues has ended. I am needed elsewhere.”

Hobbie breathed out. “Jaina, you’re one of the best pilots in the Defense Force. And with Wedge and Wes… gone, you’re needed more than ever. Can we convince you to stay?”

Tears stung Jaina’s eyes. “I’m sorry, sir, but my mind is made up. Jaina Solo the Rogue is finished fighting. Now it’s time for Jaina Solo the Sailor Senshi to fight the Charon, for love and justice!”

The three men stood up and saluted her. “If you ever want to come back,” Gavin said,” we’ve got an X-wing waiting for you.”

Jaina returned the salute. “Thank you sir,” she said, her voice thick with emotion. She executed a perfect about-face before marching out, Jag and Zekk waiting for her outside. “I did it,” she said. “Now let’s go before I change my mind!”

The three made their way to the upper hangars of Cloud City, where the Lightning Rod was berthed. Zekk pulled a remote out of his pocket and deactivated the security systems as they approached. He turned to Jag and extended his hand. “Thanks.”

Jag nodded and accepted the hand, pumping it twice before letting go. He turned to Jaina and bowed his head. “Take care of yourself, you hear? And send those Charon back to hell!”

Jaina grinned from ear to ear and hugged Jag briefly before walking up the Lightning Rod’s ramp. She paused at the top, though, and looked back. Is someone here? she thought. She shook her head before entering the freighter.
*****
Across the hangar, several beings watched the modified cargo ship lift off. Wes raised his ethereal arm and waved. “Bye, bye!”

He turned to the ghostly form of Wedge and sighed. “I just love young love like that.”

Wedge smirked at his old friend. “Actually, Jaina’s about thirty-one now. I believe Zekk’s in his mid-thirties.”

Wes’ mouth dropped at that. “Wow! They’re old!”

Wedge paid him no mind as he looked across the hangar bay at his nephew. “You did the right thing at Endor,“ he whispered. Both of them turned to three other Force ghosts. “Thank you for this,” Wedge said to them.

Obi-Wan smirked. “It’s no problem, General Antilles. I felt you deserved it.” He and his shorter companion motioned to a diffuse light glowing behind them while his old teacher stood serenely watching. “Now we must return to the Light Side.”

Wes whimpered. “Oh, come on Uncle Obi-Wan! I wanna stay and find out how it ends!” he whined, stamping his feet and crossing his arms in front of his chest, looking for the entire world like the galaxy’s oldest child.

Yoda sighed, hobbled forward and smacked him on the kneecap with his stick. “No, young fool! Now to the Light Side we must go.” The Jedi Master then turned and hobbled back to the light, followed by Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon Jinn and Wedge.

Wes turned to the yawning hangar bay doors and saluted Jaina, Zekk and Jag one more time before following his friends…

Yavin IV

Tionne walked among the corridors of the Jedi Academy, her head tilted as she followed the sounds of her double-viol being played. She glided along the stone corridors until she came upon one of the classrooms for younger students.

About twenty trainees ranging from twelve to eighteen years sat in a semi-circle around Aino Minako and Artemis. The blond plucked at the instrument while singing her heart out.

Tionne leaned against the doorjamb and listened to Minako’s voice, drinking in the almost siren-like sounds.

After a few more minutes, Minako stopped and looked up at Tionne. She stood up, dropping the double-viol to the hard stone floor. “Mistress Tionne!” The lute’s delicate wood frame cracked slightly when it hit, causing Minako’s blue eyes to shoot down to it. Her pale face flushed as she bent over to pick it up. “Oh, god! I’m sorry, Mistress Tionne!”

Artemis glanced at her before hanging his head in shame. “Oh, Minako.”

The group of students parted, allowing Tionne to walk over and pick the instrument up. She looked at Minako with her silvery eyes and smiled. “It’s okay, Minako. I‘ve done it a hundred times-”

The strings on the lute suddenly snapped, causing Tionne’s pale face to scrunch up. Minako took a few steps back while one of the students whispered, “Oh, you’re gonna get it!”

Tionne’s hand shot out and grabbed Minako by the arm, letting her haul her out of the room, Artemis following the two.

“I’m really sorry about that!” Minako said.

Tionne let out a sigh. “It’s okay, Minako. I forgive you.” The two stopped by Tionne and Kam’s room where she dropped off the lute. The pair then walked to a turbolift and traveled to up the Grand Audience Chamber.

“I’m a little worried about the Charon,” Minako admitted.

Tionne nodded in agreement. “I know, but don’t worry. Those arachnids are gonna be sorry they ever left otherspace!”

The turbolift door opened and they walked out. Kam, Dorsk 82 and Streen all glanced up as the two ladies walked over.

Tionne gave her husband a peck on the cheek before he spoke. “The last cruiser pulled out two hours ago. Until Booster Terrik’s star destroyer shows up, we are on our own.”

He sighed and the Jedi Master‘s shoulders slumped, prompting Minako to speak up. “Hey, what do we need them for? We’re Jedi Knights!”

Streen cocked an eyebrow at the woman young enough to be his granddaughter. “Jedi Knights can’t deflect orbital bombardment, Minako.”

Artemis spoke up even as Minako paled at his words. “How long until this Booster shows up?”

The former hermit glanced down at the white cat. “He won’t be here for three more days, “ he sighed. “Until he get here, we’re vulnerable.”

Dorsk’s gaze traveled to Minako. “Is there anything you Senshi can do?”

The young Jedi shrugged. “Jaina or Usagi, yeah. But Rei, Tionne and I are little more than Jedi with nifty powers.” She thought for a moment and scowled. “Say, where the hell is Rei? I had to watch over that class of kids for her!”

She reached out with the Force and scanned the Great Temple. After a half-second, her blue eyes rolled almost into the back of his skull.

Tionne stifled a laugh. “She’s with him again?”

Minako glowered and planted her hands on her hips. “This is the third time today! Don’t they get tired?”

Despite the situation, Kam let a smile crack his stern features. “Kids these days have a lot of energy, Minako.”

Hangar bay
Rei stabbed her lightsaber at her opponent, letting it get parried away so she could palm-strike him in the nose.

Her sparring partner, Miko Reglia, stumbled back with blood flowing from his nose. “OW!” he shouted. “That hurt!” he said, holding his nose

The Senshi’s black eyes flashed in the darkness of the training area of the hangar bay. “Good. Remember the pain and learn from it.” She stepped back and brought her red blade up in a defensive stance. “Would you like to try and attack me now?”

The two Jedi Knights prepared to engage one another again in the cavernous hangar bay. Luke had half of the old bay converted into a lightsaber dojo while keeping the other half as it was for the Jedi‘s fighters and freighters.

Miko raised his green blade and smiled before striking at Rei with a series of overhead slashes. She blocked them and, without warning, trapped and parried the last one down to the ground before spinning around on her heel and swinging at Miko’s left arm.

He brought his saber up at the last second, blocking her blow. The two lightsabers slid against each other, sending out a shower of sparks. Even on training mode, the blows would hurt.

Miko kept the pressure on Rei, forcing her to step back. Rei's own mind raced as she tried to think of a way to break the stalemate.

Finally, she deactivated her lightsaber and jumped up, flipping over Miko. The young man stumbled forward, dropping his blade to the ground with a clatter.

Before he could recall it to his hand, Rei pointed the blood-red tip of her blade a few centimeters from his neck. “Sorry, dear, but I win again,” she breezily said.

Miko raised his hands and hung his head. “How did you do that?”

Rei deactivated her lightsaber and clipped it to her belt. “I’ve been practicing saber fighting and Force techniques for ten years. Running a temple takes up less time than I thought.”

She looked up at Miko and could feel resignation almost wafting off him. “Now I’ll never get that kiss,” he muttered.

Rei grabbed him by his shoulders, spun him around and planted a kiss on Miko’s cheek. “When you best me in a lightsaber duel, you’ll get a real kiss.” Her eyes glanced at the ceiling and clouded over slightly. “Minako needs me.” And with that, she melted into the shadows.

Miko rubbed the cheek where she kissed him. “Woah…”

I'm here! I'm here!

Yeah, Earth's no pushover here.

And it's about time!!! I'm sick of Earth being a pushover to alien technology! angry

The lead Charon clacked their mandibles and rattled their weapons, but two red-petaled roses soon sprouted from their thick skulls. They dropped to the ground, weapons dropping to the pavement.

Yee-ha! *waves flags*

She then extracted her lightsaber and, along with Deyer, began slicing through their front ranks like a scythe through wheat.

*watches the awe-inspiring Mako-chan in worshipful silence* *_*

She twisted out of the way and jumped up, kicking him in the head and snapping his neck with a sickening crack.

Gah! She's just so COOL!

“I envy you, Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask. You shall embrace oblivion before I do.”

Oh, well, I'm sure they can accomidate you... they won't mind...

While Tuxedo Mask and the Prophet were locked in combat, Mask did a quick scan of his wife and felt something… odd in her mind. Something bad.

sad worried cry

About twenty meters away, American M-1 Abrams and M-2 Patton tanks crashed into the middle of the Charon horde, breaking through and spearheading the way for Japanese and American soldiers to wade into the heart of the Charon forces.

Yay for the backup troops!

It was all Sailor Moon could do to simply say, “Sure thing, Mamo-chan.” She sank back down, unsure of what to do or where to go.

Aww! Oh no! Poor Usagi-chan!

~Colonel Darklighter sighed and shook his head at the two. “Are you done?”
~Jaina straightened up and saluted. “We’ll continue later sir.”

*snort* grin

Behind her, Zekk stirred fitfully as she went farther away.

Aww! love

Poor Jag. Striker, you're being so nice! Good job! ^_^

Wedge smirked at his old friend. “Actually, Jaina’s about thirty-one now. I believe Zekk’s in his mid-thirties.”

Ack! They're old! *turns to Janson* Jinx! tongue

*laughs at Tionne and Minako-chan* The lute! Classic! laugh

The young Jedi shrugged. “Jaina or Usagi, yeah. But Rei, Tionne and I are little more than Jedi with nifty powers.”

I don't know, but for some reason I found that comment hilarious! ^_^

It's Miko versus miko! AWESOME!!!

Whew! Long post! But that's okay! (I only say it because I was trying to respond during work.. blush wink ) Up!

You made Tom Seleck Chief of State? Awesome man, I couldn't think of anyone else that's better for the position than the godfather of mustaches himself! I really dig the fight sequences too! Heck, Earth's armed forces are nothing to sneeze at. *starts humming the theme to Team America:World Police*

Jaina...quit Rogue Squadron? shock Never thought I'd see the day. She's an ace pilot with skills rivaling members of both sides of her family and is easily the best pilot of the 3 Solo children. But...Senshi-duty calls I suppose. Rogue Squadron will miss her though I'm sure.

Great save from the American/Japanese military! The Charon are pansies, but something has to be said by sheer numbers. As powerful as Sailor Jedi are, they're not invulnerable. Didn't see anything going on up in Earth-orbit though...how is the war going up there?

Looking forward to many more posts from you Striker!

SSM12-She had to move on, for her destiny with Zekk. And thanks for the up. happy

Jaded_Girl-LOL, thanks. I was sick of Earth getting its butt kicked by aliens too, which is why I had them winning here. Well, holding their own. Yes, Mako does rock. I wrote him feeling something bad from her to fix a plot hole from before. Yay for backup, yes. You ordered them there, after all. tongue I'm glad you like me being nice to Jag. And Miko vs. miko, yes.

Stooky-Tom Seleck? Ah... okay. Glad you like the fight scenes. happy

baf-As I said to SSM12, she had to... which you get. tongue The Rogues are poorer for her leaving, but the galaxy has gained something more. The fight's still going on, yes. And the Charon do have numbers.

Taeniaea-Thanks. She'll be all right... maybe. wink

Random thought:
I have no idea, but I'm now wondering if I could ever do a wikicities site on 3NSS. Not sure why, though... There's enough info here, I think. Ah, well. Crazy dreams. wink

Here we go!

Corellia
The cockpit of the Jade Saber was deathly quiet as all four Jedi could sense what awaited them on the other side. Mara’s green eyes looked over to Luke and she patted him on the shoulder. “Luke, let it out.“

Her husband looked up, tears streaming from his eyes. “I can’t believe they’re gone,“ he whispered. “Wedge and Wes…” He gritted his teeth, pushing all of his grief into one corner of his mind. “Time to end this,” he said.

Mara nodded as the red smear outside the windows broke into millions of bright lines and snapped into stars, revealing the Corellia System. Mara looked up and her face set into a look of determination. “Let’s go.”

Ami, Setsuna and Luke all nodded their assent and readied themselves for the battle.

Ahead lay the planet Corellia, thirty shipyards, fifty-five space stations-and over three thousand Charonian battleships. Space was ablaze with plasma bolts, proton torpedoes, concussion missiles and debris.

Mara spared a glance back at Ami even as her grip tightened on the control stick. “Contact someone from Fleet Command. We’ve gotta know what’s going on.”

Ami nodded and clipped an earpiece to her ear while activating the com. Mara sent the Saber into a dive, narrowly avoiding several Charon fighters on an intercept course.

Luke's fingers stabbed the weapons controls and shot off several laser bolts at the pursuing fighters from automated turrets mounted on the hull. All seven hit, blowing through their shields. Two exploded and three more had their leg-like laser cannons blown off.

Ami spoke up. “I’ve established contact with the capital city. A Governor Marcha in online.”

Mara nodded as the Saber dove and twisted around. “Put her on,” she gritted out.

A screen in the center of the console flashed and changed to an image of Governor Marcha. A member of the Drall species, she resembled a large teddy bear. There was a definite spark of intelligence behind those eyes, though. “It’s nice to see you again, Luke. Although I wish the circumstances were a bit different.”

Luke nodded. “What’s the situation?”

Marcha’s gaze traveled off screen before she spoke. “Planetary shields were raised above Corellia, Selonia and Drall but… half of their fleet is Base Delta Zeroing Talus and Tralus.” Her cheeks puffed out. “Damn them to the deepest pit of hell.”

Mara’s breath caught in her throat. “No…” she whispered. Luke placed a hand on his wife’s shoulder and sent comforting thoughts and feelings to her even as his own face winced. “Too much,” she said. “Damn them…”

In the back, Setsuna abruptly stood up. She raised her right hand to the ceiling and concentrated, summoning her transformation wand. “Pluto Crystal Power Makeup!” A bright green energy field surrounded her and, when it faded a half-second later, she was Sailor Pluto, the Senshi of time. A long gray staff topped by a bright red sphere materialized in her right hand and she held it high. “Dark Dome Close!” she shouted.

Outside the Saber, a translucent barrier formed around the cruiser. Mara quickly checked the sensors. “No way…We’re practically invulnerable now!”

Pluto nodded, her red eyes staring out the viewport. “I know. We must do all that we can to stop the Charon from achieving their goal.”

Ami glanced at the sensors, her mind racing. She saw a few battleships and fighters attacking the planets, ships and defense platforms, but the majority clustered around large structures, a metallic latticework surrounding an open space. She stood up and pointed at the objects on the screen. “Master Skywalker, what are those?”

Luke glanced down, and his face paled. “Of course! They’re after the shipyards!” He slapped his forehead in frustration. “If they can jump out of here with even some of those, then our number disadvantage will grow even worse.”

Even as he spoke, several battleships extended tractor beams and latched onto one of the lattice structures. With a mighty tug, they exited Corellia’s gravity well before vanishing into hyperspace, their prize in tow.

Mara gritted her teeth. “That was their only one,” she said before pumping more power into the Saber’s ion engines. “They’re not getting anymore!”

Luke looked down at the image of Marcha again. “Governor, can you direct any ships at the shipyards?”

Down in the basement of governor’s mansion, Marcha turned and examined a hologram of the Corellian System. Five big spheres represented the planets Corellia, Selonia, Drall, Talus and Tralus, while a myriad of smaller icons showed the positions of space stations, defense platforms, capital ships and fighters.

“There’s a full screen of battleships holding off our forces. We can’t break through,” she growled. She looked back at the screen and subsequently made the hardest decision of her political career. “If you can’t stop them from capturing the shipyards, then you have my permission to destroy the shipyards.”

Luke and Mara exchanged a glance before he terminated the transmission. “All right, how do we stop those ships?”

Ami checked the sensors again, and her blue eyes went wide. “Umm, why has our ride been quite smooth?”

Mara sat up proudly, a grin on her face. “Well, it’s obviously a result of my superior piloting, Ami. Some day you‘ll be as hot a hand on the stick as I am.”

Pluto chuckled. “Actually, over fifty-five plasma bolts have hit my shield over the past ten minutes. It is holding.”

Mara’s eyebrows went up at that as she slunk back down and turned back to the controls. “So… do we destroy the remaining shipyards? And if so, how?”

The blue-haired genius thought for a moment and pulled out her mini-computer from a pocket on her jacket. “Do the shipyards have self-destruct mechanisms?” she pondered.

Mara thought for a moment. “I don’t think so. If these were Kuat shipyards, then maybe, but not Corellian designs.” Two more shipyards were towed out of Corellia’s gravity well as she spoke. “Damn it!”

Pluto snarled. “Where are they taking them?”
Mara checked the course of the battleships as they entered hyperspace. A look of confusion swept over her face. “The hell? The only thing along that course is…the Alderaan System.”

Luke suddenly slammed his fist into the console, puncturing a hole in the duranium casing. Pure, unadulterated anger pulsed from the Jedi Master. “Those freaks!” he shouted, standing up. “How dare they defile my sister’s homeworld! How dare hey kill my friends!”

Ami shrank down in her seat, but managed to find her voice. “Master Skywalker, please! We will stop them, but we must think about what we must do instead of reacting with blind hate and rage. That leads to the Dark Side.”

Luke's head whipped around as his ice-blue eyes bore into Ami. Before he could say anything to her, he felt a hand grip his arm with the force of an industrial-strength vise. The enraged Jedi looked to his right even as Mara looked up at him.

There was fire in her eyes and steel in her voice as she spoke. “Luke, she’s right. Count to ten. Run through a calming exercise. Do anything but speak for the next five minutes. Got it?”

Luke glanced back at Ami and saw her cowering in her chair. A feeling of shame swept over the Jedi Master and he sent the blue-haired genius a telepathic message. I apologize, Ami. My actions were shameful.

Ami licked her lips before speaking out loud. “It’s all right, Luke.” She turned back to her console and contacted Corellia once more. “I’m going to download the schematics for the shipyards. There must be something I can use.”

The Saber rattled a bit as she spoke, jostling everyone about. Pluto spoke up. “My shield has finally started to weaken. The Charon are bringing their capital ship weapons to play.”

Mara checked their position and gasped. The sleek gray-hulled cruiser was in the midst of the Charon battle group, taking fire from all sides. “This could be tight,“ she said. A flight of fighters swooped by in front of the Saber, forcing Mara to send it into a dive. The ship bucked and tossed for a bit. “Ami, how’s it coming?” Mara half-shouted.

Ami’s blue eyes flashed as scanned the incoming info on the Corellia Shipyards, the backbone of their economy. During the seven seconds it took her to absorb over five hundred screenshots of images and text, three more shipyards were carried off to Alderaan, leaving twenty-four shipyards.

Ami steepled her fingers and rested her chin on them. “There are no self-destruct mechanisms, and I really don’t see any way to stop them.” A note of resolve crept into her voice. “We’ll have to blow them up.”

Luke, who was busy shooting down multiple Charon fighters in order to ‘vent‘ his frustration, spoke up. “But how?”

Mara looked askance at the floor. “Wait…an idea’s coming.”

Luke picked up on it through their Force bond. “The maneuvering thrusters? What about them?”

Mara’s green eyes looked up at her husband before she turned back to Ami. “Ami, can you hack into their computers and tell it to fire off all the maneuvering thrusters?”

Ami’s eyebrows scrunched. “Well, I have the codes that give me complete access to the shipyard’s main computers, so yes. But why?”

Mara let an evil grin form on her face. “Have all thruster vents close while they‘re going at full thrust. That’ll force the plasma back into the fuel lines and blow them up.”

The blue-haired genius nodded and her fingers flew over the control console in front of her.

Within seconds, there was a noticeable change on all the shipyards. The maneuvering thrusters, tiny rockets that kept the gray lattice structures in place high above Corellia, began firing. Relatively tiny columns of superheated plasma were expelled from vents located at key places along the structures. The grilles then closed, sealing off the plasma and directing it back along the fuel lines that crisscrossed along the relatively fragile shipyards.

Within minutes, the twenty-four remaining structures shuddered before breaking apart. The Charon battleships scattered from the wreckage, denied their prizes. Most directed their anger at the ships and stations near Corellia, but some turned on the Jade Saber.

Pluto gulped, while a fine sheen of sweat showed on her dark skin. “I cannot hold this much longer,” she said, even as the ship rocked and heaved under concentrated turbolaser fire.

Mara nodded. "Then we’ll just have to get out of here.” She piloted the Saber right up to a Charon battleship and slipped into the Force, letting it guide her actions. The cruiser slipped out of the way of incoming flak, expertly veering off just at the right moment and letting it destroy any pursuing fighters.

Luke, for his part, fired off a pair of proton torpedoes at the base of one of the eight main turbolaser cannons, blowing it up and setting off a fairly nasty chain reaction that split the ship in two.

As soon as the kilometer-long battleship exploded in a fireball, Mara cranked the control stick to starboard and opened the throttle all the way up. The Saber shot out of the Charon fleet and into clear space.

Luke spoke to Ami. “Contact Governor Marcha again.”

Ami nodded and connected the Saber to the governor’s mansion on Corellia. Marcha’s teddy bear-like face appeared on the main screen. “The shipyards?” she asked.

Luke cleared his throat. “I regret to inform you that they were destroyed.”

Marcha’s brown eyes narrowed. “I see.” She let out a sigh and her shoulders drooped slightly. “Well, at least those monsters have been denied most of them.”

Pluto lowered her time staff and stepped forward. “What of your defenses? Can they hold?”

Marcha glanced off screen again before responding. “Yes. Our shields are strong enough, and unlike Coruscant, we can grow enough food for the whole population.”

A sense of relief settled over the ship. “Is there anything else we can do?” Ami asked.

The governor shrugged. “You’ve done some good, Miss. We’ll be all right.”

Mara sent the Saber away from Corellia‘s gravity well. “I wish there was something else-“

The former Emperor’s Hand was interrupted by a shout from Ami. “STOP THE SHIP!”

Pluto stepped over to her and looked over the genius’ shoulder. “What is it?”

Ami’s blue eyes shone as she pointed a spot on the sensor screen. “It’s debris from one of their battleships!”

Mara looked back and, with exaggerated politeness, spoke. “I think I speak for everyone when I say; why the kriff is that important?”

Luke shrugged, a boyish grin lighting his formerly cowling face. “Oh, come on. Who can resist the urge to look at a really neat wreck?”

Ami shook her head. “I’m serious, Luke. I have a feeling about that wreck.”

Mara nodded and steered the Saber towards it. “You three get ready. I’ll join you in five minutes.” While Luke, Pluto and Ami left the cockpit; Mara scanned the destroyed battleship for a suitable place to dock at. It took a few minutes, but she finally found a docking hatch.

The Saber sidled up along the oily-black hull, a docking tube extending when in range. Mara put the cruiser on autopilot before heading back to the airlock. Her three companions were there, transformed already. She held up her hand and summoned her transformation wand. “Coruscant Star Power Makeup!” she shouted. A half-second later, Sailor Coruscant stood there, posing.

Sailor Mercury handed out breathe masks to everyone. “Put these on so we can use our radios,” she said. “We don‘t need to breathe, but we need air to use the radios.”

Coruscant slid hers on one-handed, brushing her long, flame-red hair out of the way with the other. “All right. Everyone be careful and maintain radio contact. Ami, since this is your expedition, lead the way.”

The blue-haired genius pulled a lever on the side, opening the outer hatch and allowing them entry into the airless deck. Mercury looked around and held up her mini-computer, waving around the slim device as she scanned the interior. “This feels wrong,” she said.

Coruscant looked around the deck they were on and unsuccessfully attempted to suppress a shiver. “Well, Setsuna said they were created by the old Sith Empire as a ‘last resort’.”

Pluto held up her time staff and concentrated. The garnet orb at the top began glowing, lighting the area around them.

Luke smiled at her. “Thanks, Setsuna.”

The Senshi of time inclined her head. “You’re welcome, Luke. And you’re right, Mara. The Dark Side is strong here.”

Mercury shook her head. “No, that’s not what I feel.” She turned back to the other three and picked up a shard of metal. She ran her computer over it, a look of intense concentration on her face. “I’ve got it!” she shouted, causing a bit of feedback over the speakers. “I know how to beat them!”

She dropped the shard and began talking rapidly, gesturing wildly. “I should’ve seen it before.” She pointed at Sailor Pluto. “When you mentioned that they were from otherspace, a ‘dimensional trap’, that set off something in my mind, but it took actually handling something from their alternate reality to put all the pieces together.”

She took a deep breath, and before anyone could interrupt her, Mizuno Ami went super geek.

“The quantum signature of matter from otherspace is different from matter from either this reality or the one Earth resides in. This combined with the inherent infusion of Dark Side energy into the basic atomic structure means that Usagi and Jaina using their Ginzoishous can differentiate between Charon bioforms and the rest of the universe not to mention their battleships!”

She stopped talking and looked at Tuxedo Jedi, Coruscant and Pluto. All three had massive looks of complete, utter and total confusion on their faces. Finally, Mara spoke.

“Ami, you are an incredible young woman who’s smart, brave and loyal. Your ability to figure stuff out is second to none.” She glanced at Tuxedo Jedi before continuing. “Now I think I speak for everyone when I ask; what in the nine hells of Corellia did you just say?”

Even through the shadows, everyone could see Mercury blush. “Oh, my,” she muttered. She thought for a moment and held out her hand, levitating the shard of metal back into her hand. She then unclipped her lightsaber from a loop on the top of her skirt and held it up.

“The matter that comprises this shard of metal vibrates at a different rate than the matter that comprises my lightsaber.” She let the shard drop to the floor with a clatter before resuming her lecture. “It also has a lot of Dark Side energy built into it; a lot more than most matter in this reality.”

The pieces started falling into place for the other three. Tuxedo Jedi pointed at the shard. “So…are you saying that Jaina and Usagi can…wish the Charon back to otherspace?”

Pluto turned her head to face him. “It is not outside the realm of possibility. Both Ginzoishou are basically reality alterers. They do what their users wish them to.” Her scarlet eyes flashed. “However, for such a task, their energy must be focused like a laser, their will unwavering.”

Tuxedo Jedi let out a small chuckle. “The best place would be the Jedi Temple. Exar Kun used it to focus his powers, so why not Jaina and Usagi?”

Mercury’s mouth turned up in a brilliant smile. “Exactly.”

Sailor Coruscant nodded, satisfied with the new explanation. “As Jaina would say, what are we waiting for?”

Her husband shrugged, his cape bobbing a bit. “Well, I can’t. This place is… getting to me.”

While turned to leave, someone else listened-someone who did not want them to succeed. A lone Charon stood on the opposite side of a hatch in the hall. His first instinct was to rush out and attack, but he instead squelched his instincts and listened.

Unlike the corridor beyond, this room still had air, but it didn’t matter to the Charon. Like his brethren, he didn’t need to breathe. Air in ships was merely used for oral communication and to keep pressure on their bodies even.

He waited until they left the ship before exiting the room. He scurried down crawlspaces and through hatches to the hangar deck and looked around, his multi-faceted eyes soon finding one functioning fighter. Within moments, the fighter shot out of the hangar bay doors and made a beeline for the Alderaan System.

On board the Jade Saber, Mara slapped her forehead in utter disgust with herself. “How the hell did we miss a survivor?” She quickly retracted the docking clamp while Luke targeted the fighter. “And we had to change back and waste time…” she growled out.

The forward laser cannons spat red bolts, but the arachnid-like fighter was already out of range-and out of the gravity well. It vanished in a blur of pseudo-motion.

Before anyone could speak, Ami’s blue eyes half-closed and she rattled off a string of numbers. “There’s Yavin’s hyperspace coordinates.”

Mara inputted them as she spoke while Luke contacted Corellia Defense. “I’ll tell them about the weakness we found in their ships,” he said.

Mara snarled as she pulled down on a lever, activating the hyperdrive. It was now a race against time, and the only prize for second place would be extinction.

The Alderaan System, January ninth, 2014
Calaveras stood on the deck of the Blood Fang with hands planted on hips a smile on her face. The largest asteroid in the belt had been converted into a splendid base, complete with turbolaser defenses, orbital shipyards taken from Corellia and a breeding pit. Soon, thousands of Charon warriors and hundreds of battleships would be spawned from the base.

A sensor tech suddenly looked up from his station. “Mistress, a fighter has left hyperspace!”

Calaveras’ head whipped around, sending her ponytail flailing about. “What? We don’t have anything due except for battleships!” She marched over to the console as the three-meter tall arachnid stepped aside, allowing her access. She pressed a series of buttons on the console and activated the comm. “Fighter, this is Darth Calaveras. Where are you from, and why are you here?”

A slurping, hissing voice came through the speaker. “Mistress, I return from Corellia with grave news! The Senshi known as Ami has devised a method of banishing us back to otherspace.”

The Sith Lord’s jaw dropped in shock. She stood up and rubbed her forehead as sweat began beading on it. “Meet me in my throne room.” She turned and quickly marched off to the most recently-constructed portion of the base; a large throne room capable of letting her direct the Charon forces wherever they were.

Ten minutes later, a three-meter tall arachnid marched in on four hairy legs. He knelt down and crossed his arms before the Dark Mistress of the Sith, limbs quivering and saliva dripping from its fangs.

She crossed her legs and looked down her nose at the warrior. “Tell me about the plan,” she ordered.

The Charon looked up with his multi-faceted eyes and spoke. “They will gather their Ginzoishous and use them on Yavin IV to ‘wish’ us back to otherspace!”

Calaveras’ brown eyes widened at that, and her breath reflexively caught in her throat. She pressed a button on the throne’s armrest and a large holo-projector rose from the floor, activating and projecting a three-dimensional map of the galaxy.

She studied the image for a moment before hitting another button on the armrest. “Central Command, send a message to Fleet Group Pestilence. Have them reduce Yavin IV to ash.”

A smile crossed her lips as they obeyed. In two days, the only threat to extinction will be destroyed.

Great action sequences and interesting emotional stuff, though this cracked me up:

“Luke, she’s right. Count to ten. Run through a calming exercise. Do anything but speak for the next five minutes. Got it?”
