	How cool? There's another Miranda! Moving on to the post... Interesting to read how the three feel about being a Jedi and what it means. There's a separation between them that can spell certain disaster for the Jedi Order...unravel all the good Luke and the other have done. I also loved Cem's explaination of how things between him, Jag, and Jaina transpired. “Bitter, but happy for her,” he corrected. “Jag and I go way back. I refuse to be jealous of him. They’re happy together. They’re perfect together. They’re in love and it makes her so beautiful that I can’t stand to be away from her.” He laughed then, giving himself a small mental shake. “I can’t believe I told you that.” Well said. 	Tahiri and Cem are soulmates....Anakin and Jaina are their first love. I love the way you write Cem he`s not all stiff and boring like Chiss are portrayed and I can relate to his poor, bruised heart. Tahiri`s in trouble again and by the look of it so is Tesar. Does Cem have an escape plan in the works and how will the romance begin? I`ll stay tune for the next update. This is better that any soap opera out there but with a star wars twist. D.Jaded

	Chapter Four Tesar was a good fighter. As she attacked he became a smooth motion of deadly opposition. He lashed at her, lightsaber locking against hers while his tail whipped around to smash into her body. She grunted, moving with the motion. Sliding backward, she spread her legs to the side, dragging her hand along the ground to stop herself. Then she shot forward, saber flashing. Tesar met her blade head on, his sharp teeth in a tight snarl. Then she felt warm hands on her throat. Cem, she thought, alarm zinging through her. She felt the dark presence in her as a burst of frustration shot through it. Then she passed out, blackness sweeping in to claim her in a quick embrace. ~~ Through the blackness, she heard voices. The first was weak and indistinct, but offered a wealth of support and love. Be strong Tahiri. And remember what I told you. Please don’t ever forget. Then the other voices came, stronger and more insistent. Like a desert windstorm, they blunted the other voice, until all she could hear was the argument. “Thiz one had the situation under control –“ “I wouldn’t be so sure about that. Jedi Veila is a talented warrior. If I hadn’t acted she could have beaten you –“ There was hissing laughter and then, “Iz that a fact, Cem?” “Don’t tell me you’re too arrogant to acknowledge that you could have –“ “Fine. Thiz one will not tell you.” Silence. Then she heard Cem sigh. Slowly she blinked open her eyes, focusing on her new blond haired companion. “What happened?” she asked slowly, pronouncing each word carefully. Tesar’s pebbly face swam into view. “You –“ “Threatened to kill Jedi Sebatyne,” Cem interjected. He was against the back of her hut, arms crossed. He seemed every bit as spotless and superior as when he had emerged from the Jade Sabre; it was as if the ever murky air had no effect on him at all. Currently his baby blue eyes were locked on hers with scrutinizing intensity. “I remember that,” she said, forcing herself to keep looking at him in spite of his forceful gaze. “Then what did you forget?” he asked. “What are you trying to ask us?” She sat up, touching her feet to the dirt floor and wiggling her toes. “What happened after you knocked me out?” “Thiz one will explain,” Tesar said. “Cem caught you and asked where you sleep. Then he carried you here and laid you down.” “That’s it?” Tahiri asked. “How long was I out for?” “A few minutes,” Cem said. Then he smiled darkly, his lips twisting into a mostly feral smirk. “Now it’s your turn to answer a few questions. Where were you going when Jedi Sebatyne –“ “The Tree Cave,” Tahiri said quickly. “And there was something in me.” She rested one hand on her chest. “Something dark.” “A Killik?” Cem asked. Tahiri looked over him once more, trying to judge him better. “Killik’s aren’t evil,” she said finally. “They’re amoral.” “Meaning?” “They can’t tell the difference between right and wrong any more than a two year old human child can. They only act based on what is good for them at a set moment in time.” “What about Joiners?” “We knew the difference,” she said. “But in the Nest it was really hard to voice anything. The Will of UnuThul was very powerful and often times there was nothing we could do to resist even if we knew something was wrong.” “I don’t buy that,” Cem shot back. “Besides, why would you willingly give up your independence?” Tahiri was silent. Since her exile to Dagobah she and Tesar had discussed exactly what the appeal of the Killiks had been. “Thiz one liked the feeling of belonging,” Tesar said, voicing what he had decided upon. “It remindz me of my hatchmates and the closeness we shared before their deaths.” He twitched his tail, eyeing Cem as if he were a morsel of food. “For thiz one, the Killik were about regaining a closeness that I had lost.” Cem looked thoughtful – something that surprised Tahiri. From his “conversation” with Luke, she had gotten the impression that he wasn’t easily swayed by the arguments of others. He was rather opinionated – or so it seemed – and yet, he really did seem to be listening to what Tesar had to say. She swallowed hard, watching his eyes slowly shift from the Barabel to her. “And what about you Jedi Veila?” His tone was soft and inquisitive, with just a hint of curiosity underneath. “What attracted you to the Killik?” “Anakin.” His name escaped her mouth in a single, rushed breath. For a moment she felt her heart constricting as memories flooded through her. Then she caught herself, forced more words to come. “I went because I wanted to forget and remember at the same time.” “Forget and remember?” Cem asked. “That doesn’t make any sense.” “That’s how it is with love,” Tahiri said. “When it can’t be fulfilled because of death, a hole is created. And if it’s real love, it’s something that you don’t ever want to forget . . . but remembering it – and knowing that it will never, ever be – that hurts. It hurts more than I can stand sometimes.” She paused again. “Anyone who says that the pain dulls with time . . . they’re lying. It gets stronger – so bittersweet that you can taste it with every breath that you draw.” She drew a trembling breath and continued. “When I was with the Killik, I tried so hard not to think of him. I pretended I didn’t care in order to stop the bittersweet feelings from consuming me and leaving nothing but a bloodthirsty Riina behind.” She felt tears prickling at the corners of her eye and stopped, taking a moment to try and compose herself. Then, realizing that Tesar didn’t care if she cried – and she didn’t care if Cem saw her cry – she let the tears fall. Cem bit the inside of his lip, suddenly looking less superior and more human. “Don’t cry, Jedi Veila.” He ran a hand through his hair, looking away. “It doesn’t suit you –“ She sniffed, a hint of anger slipping through her grief. “I cry for who I lost –“ He rubbed his neck, looking even more awkward. “I didn’t mean to make it sound like you shouldn’t grieve for Anakin Solo.” He paused. “It’s just . . .” His voice trailed off and he laughed softly. “I’m very self-centered. That’s why I don’t want you to cry.” “Explain,” Tesar rasped, sounding highly amused. “I brought the topic to him, and therefore I made you cry,” he said, directing his answer to Tahiri. “And what you say does make sense. I had never thought of it that way, but I understand.” Needless to say, this was not the reaction Tahiri expected. She had anticipated him going back on the offensive, continuing her interrogation of what he had to view as an illogical attempt to deal with the loss of a loved one. That he hadn’t was surprising. With one hand she wiped her tears away, trying to stop new ones from slipping out again. Cem turned his back fully. “I’ll give you some privacy.” He headed for the cloth covered door, back straight, but motions less hostile than she had ever seen them before. Just as he reached the curtain, Tahiri sprang to her feet fully and raced after him. “No.” He turned, raising one eyebrow. “No?” “I don’t need privacy right now. I need to get over Anakin,” she said, choking on the last part. “And if you’re staying in exile with us, we need to work out our differences rather than stew over them. And –“ Cem laughed harshly, hostility once more returning. Oddly enough, it didn’t seem to be directed at either Tesar or Tahiri – it was a vague hostility with no real target. “You want to get over him? Is that what happens to love after it hasn’t been answered in a long time? You slowly get to the point where you want to “get over” it?” “Thiz one doez not know for sure,” Tesar hissed. “But I think that it iz nothing like what you suggest.” Tahiri was silent for a long moment. His words sparked chill in her that was colder than the Tatoonie nights of her childhood. But before she could get mad, he continued. “Forget I said that.” A small smile touched his mouth. “I can already see the answer in your eyes . . . in your body language. You still care about him and don’t want to ever forget.” He bowed his head. “But it’s what he wants, isn’t it? And for him, you’d try and do anything . . . even if it’s forgetting about him.” He brushed the curtain aside with one hand, head still bowed and not looking at either of them. “I know how you feel, Tahiri. But for you, it must be worse. You will never have the chance to see him happy again.” He spun suddenly, his eyes swimming with unshed tears. With one hand, he brushed a single tear from her eye. “All that’s left is bittersweet memories, without the chance to make new ones.” He turned, but Tahiri caught his hand in a sudden, tight grip. “Cem Flare –“ With a small flick of his wrist he freed his hand. “At least I can see her happy,” he said.
