RE: The Wizards' School [YJK AU; HP/SW X-over (Year 1); Jaina, Jacen, Anakin] Updated 8/23; Chap. 20
Darth_Marrs:
Thanks!
SWpants666:
That's so great.
Thanks!
Anakin and Jaina both used the Force on many occasions to launch multiple snowballs all at once. However, even using this tactic, they were still badly outnumbered and since they were using the Force, Bill and Mr. Weasley were allowed to use magic.
hehe, yeah, that's only fair. That's awesome they were good enough though to not lose completely And of course Percy wouldn't play. He likes to ruin fun.
Yes – after all, according to Fred in GoF, Percy wouldn’t recognize a joke even if it danced in front of him wearing Dobby’s tea cosy.
“Ginny, why don’t you just be yourself?” Jaina sighed. Then she shrugged. “Just… act normally, hang out with us if you want, just be normal.”
I'm so glad Jaina's there to talk to her. I'm happy for them both, being able to have another girl around.
I wish Ginny could have been a year older – I love writing her, she’s such a fun character.
Anakin’s done a couple of things, too – he accidentally turned his hair red and green, it took Mum ages to figure out how to turn it back.”
I can see Anakin do that. Aww, I'll bet he looked cute!
Yeah, he would.
Perhaps Mr. Cackle-Droid needed to be introduced to C-3PO.
C-3PO wouldn't know what to do with a laughing puppet. Especially an evil laughing one.
True, true.
“Oh no,” Jaina said. “Absolutely not.” She, Jacen and Anakin were still agreeing on not revealing lightsabers to the Weasleys. At least, not yet.
A good idea, especially not to the twins. Imagine the sorts of trouble they can get into with the lightsabers!
*shudders at the thought of Fred and George with lightsabers*
Well, at least he wouldn't be mad if she slapped him.
I hope everything WILL be all right. That would suck so much if it wouldn't. I'm just really glad the twin bond is still definitely there.
I said that they’d eventually get over their problems.
It’ll all eventually get sorted out – note that I said eventually.
TigerofRobare:
Those Arakyd probe droids can be tricky to spot. I'd be surprised if muggle technology can even find them. Hopefully they'll just shut down when they come close enough to Hogwarts.
They would – or they’d break or something. Too much magic in the air, after all.
A certain Mr. Fett wouldn't happen to be one of the people out looking for the Solos, would he?
Lalalalalala…
Great chapter, as always.
Thanks!
Master_M_Sky:
Thanks for the PM!
You’re weclome!
I think something is wrong with Jacen. Why would he just abandon the Force like that?
Because an evil author has told him to?
Sometime’s Jacen’s curiosity gets the better of him – this is one of those times. Unfortunately, it has the very great possibility of becoming permanent.
If Luke were to hear that, I'm guessing he wouldn't be very happy.
Nope, probably not.
Great post! I loved the lightsaber duel. And poor Anakin, bursting into tears like that! Broke my heart!
He is only ten, after all. And he really does miss his parents.
Thanks for updating. Eager to hear more!
Thanks for reading!
jaina_clan_solo:
I'm really glad that Jacen and Jaina were able to restore their twin-bond over their holiday break... even if they do have to 'agree to disagree' about the path Jacen has chosen to take. But like he said, Jaina wouldn't like him making her choices either.
Exactly. *nods*
Poor Anakin It must have been hard hearing about how badly their parents are missing them too... sometimes it's easier to just not think about those things.
Which is the tactic the twins use, I think. They’ve both pretty much shoved the thought of their parents out of their minds for the time being – and Anakin is too preoccupied having fun, until someone reminds them of the fact that they won’t be seeing Han and Leia for quite some time.
I loved the lightsaber duel between Jaina and Anakin... though I don't think any of the Weasley's or Harry quite realize yet just what a lightsaber is capable of.
Nope. Not yet. For them it’s all sparks and pretty lights.
And I wonder when Harry is going to discover the mirror of erised... it's going to be harder to wander the castle hallways at night with school back in full swing.
You’ll see!
mara_jade_rox:
Thanks for reading!
Diamond_Revelation:
Aww, thanks! I’m glad you’re enjoying it so much.
Nat:
Thanks!
Ewok-Kenobi:
Aw, thank you!
padawanlost:
Great Christmas update. I loved thinking of the Solos in their jumpers with the big letters- if their mother saw them wearing something that garish she'd probably pass out.
Knowing Leia, she probably would.
Nice to see Ginny's crushing on Harry already.
Yep! That was something I couldn’t leave out. It’s part of Ginny’s canon character, after all.
I thought for a little while that Jaina might feel a hint of jealousy.
No, not really. Harry’s a just a friend – a good friend, but not a boyfriend.
Maybe her green-eyed dark haired boy is on the way with the "meteor?"
Possibly. But who’s to say that her green-eyed, dark haired boy is going to be nice when she runs into him? He could be quite mean. And angry. And not nice at all.
I'm really interesting to see if we have some new "foreign" students at Hogwarts when they get back? Though, thinking of Tamith Kai vs. the Forbidden Forest, I might bet on the Forest.
Hmm… you’ll see!
I guess the lightsaber fight will have to do until its safe to take the Falcon up. Still can't wait.
Thanks for reading!
princess_of_naboo:
Ha, Anakin was the only jumper with a vowel.
You know, I never realized that until now. It would be pretty hard to try to make a word out of their jumpers with just one vowel…
FGGHPBRJJA
Br’ggajphf’j?
Yeah, really doesn’t work.
Jedi_Scribe:
Wow.
The image of Jaina & Anakin dueling in the context of falling snow of Christmas day is one of the most magical SW scenes I think I have ever read. That was beautiful.
Thank you!
The rest of the plot is developing nicely as well. Jacen is being Jacen and Jaina's relationship with Anakin & the HP characters is wonderful.
Thank you!
Well, me being the positively crazy person that I am, I have recently taken on a third project – another epic.
Yeah, big surprise.
The good news is that I’m working on the next TWS chapter. The semi-good/bad news is that there are only seven chapters left until the end of Book One. The bad news is that things are going to get pretty crazy with school, DRL and writing three epics.
Balancing
This Time Around
,
The Wizards’ School
and
Taerlyndan
is going to be pretty interesting.
There should be a new post soon – maybe Friday-ish, or Saturday-ish. We shall see.

I can't believe Jacen chose magic. Poor Jaina! Excellent post, and I loved the lightsaber bit. Heaven help the world if the Weasley twins get lightsabers!

Hi! I'm pretty new here to the boards but I LOVE your story so far! I'm still hoping that their's some way to connect the magic to the force, but I guess that's idle wishing. Your characterizations are spot-on, and I'm still hoping Jaina will get to play some quidditch (and own; she's a Solo and the best of them flying-wise to boot). Oh.
~Jaina
By the way, could you please add me to your pm list? Thanks!

Yes, I'm afraid he did. Discovery and all that.
Poor Jaina!
Yes.

Hi, again!
So glad that you're reading!

Thanks for the comment on characterization!
It's something that I'm always trying to get right, so I'm really glad that you think it's spot on!
Thanks for reading! You've been added to the PM list.
Just a small A/N:
Last night, I sent the next post to Nat for betaing. It will be posted soon! Hooray!

RE: The Wizards' School [YJK AU; HP/SW X-over (Year 1); Jaina, Jacen, Anakin] Updated 8/23; Chap. 20
CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE
A Mirror of Desire
Jaina’s second term at Hogwarts was about to begin. There were two days left of holidays before school started and the school was, once again, flooded with students who had returned from winter vacation. It felt almost as if she had never left the castle.
The school was bustling with activity. Students and teachers alike were preparing for the new term. Some of the more extreme students (like Hermione) ended up in the library studying subjects they knew their teachers would cover, while others took full advantage of the last few free days by doing what they pleased. Fred and George demonstrated this on their first full day back at the castle by unleashing a dozen Dungbombs in the Gryffindor common room.
Coughing and covering their noses as they escaped various nasty smells, Jaina, Ron, Harry and Hermione fled to the library. Except for a few senior students and Madam Pince, the library was empty. The four friends found a table hidden between two large bookshelves and settled down. For the sake of appearance in case Madam Pince came wandering by and also probably to satisfy her own curiosity, Hermione retrieved three giant textbooks on the subjects of Transfiguration, History of Magic, spell work in Charms and Potions. She set them on the table, but they remained unopened.
“Did you find out anything about Nicolas Flamel over the holidays?” she asked as they sat down.
Jaina, Ron and Harry exchanged looks.
“Erm… no, not really,” Ron began.
“We tried,” Harry continued, “but we –”
“They got too preoccupied by the art of lightsaber duels,” Jaina finished.
Hermione’s eyebrows went up and then she started to laugh.
“So I take it your holidays were good, then,” she said. “Lightsaber fights? Really?”
“Fred and George insisted,” Jaina explained. “And everybody else backed them up.”
“It was brilliant, though,” Ron said. “I swear lightsabers are the coolest things since the invention of lemon-flavoured levitation balls.”
Jaina sighed and rolled her eyes. Her friends would take a
long
time to realize that a lightsaber wasn’t a flashy toy.
“…they’re just as cool as Invisibility Cloaks,” Ron continued excitedly. Suddenly, he broke off and winced. “Sorry, Harry.”
Hermione raised an eyebrow. “What’s this?” She turned to Harry, who looked as if he was losing his battle in keeping himself from laughing. “Harry?”
Harry shrugged. “Someone sent it to me for Christmas. It used to belong to my dad.”
“Really?” Hermione’s eyes widened in astonishment.
“Wow.
That’s really… wow.”
Harry grinned.
“And so, I was thinking,” Harry continued, “that maybe we could use it to look for information on Nicholas Flamel.”
Jaina felt her lips twitch upwards in a smile as soon as she heard Harry’s words. She knew exactly what that meant… and wandering around the castle at night, invisible to teachers, ghosts and walking suits of armour alike seemed very appealing. Glancing across the table, she could tell from Ron’s expression that he shared her feeling.
Hermione, however, didn’t look quite as impressed.
“But… Harry, we
can’t
go wandering around at night! We’ll get into trouble and looking for information on Nicolas Flamel is something we can do by
day
—”
“Hermione, don’t be such a wet blanket,” Ron told her, rolling his eyes. “We’d be
invisible
. That’s the
point.”
“But –”
“And we’ve already looked through
hundreds
of books in the library for information on Nicolas Flamel and we’ve found nothing,” Harry pointed out. “That is, nothing in everywhere
except
for the Restricted Section.”
“But… oh!” Hermione’s voice faded off into a gasp. There was an odd gleam in her eye – she suddenly looked a lot keener on the idea. “And we can’t get into the Restricted Section without a teacher’s note, something that we won’t be able to get without them finding out what we’re up to… I see.” She grinned.
“Are you feeling all right?” Ron asked, looking slightly perturbed by this change in attitude.
Hermione shrugged. “Yes.”
“We’d better go tonight,” Harry said. “We won’t have time once classes start again –”
He suddenly broke off as Madam Pince swooped in, glaring at them suspiciously as if she had heard them whispering in conspiratorial tones. Jaina, Harry, Ron and Hermione all smiled innocently at her until she passed, then returned to their conversation, leaning in towards each other so they could speak in lower voices.
“Tonight, then,” Harry said. “Midnight? The Common Room should be empty by then so we can put the cloak on without others seeing us.”
“And if not I bet we can persuade Fred and George to drop more Dungbombs,” Ron added brightly.
Hermione wrinkled her nose. “Let’s try not to resort to that.”
“Agreed,” Jaina, Ron and Harry all replied fervently.
---
Jaina and Hermione went to bed early that evening, slipping up to their dorm room to prepare for bed while the majority of students were grouped in the common room, watching Fred and George demonstrate their abilities to throw salamanders into the fire. Harry and Ron were left sitting nearby, attempting to play a chess game that was rapidly getting out of hand because neither of them were concentrating very well on the game.
The idea was that Jaina would get some sleep before her nighttime escapades. However, as soon as she crawled under the covers, she found that she couldn’t sleep at all. Hermione somehow managed – or, at least, Jaina thought she did because she didn’t hear any noises from her at all.
Jaina had just pulled her curtains as tightly closed as possible to block out any possible light and had shoved her head under her pillow to further emphasize that when Parvati and Lavender came thundering into the room, discussing their Christmas holidays in very loud voices.
After listening to what seemed like an hour of how Lavender had played with her pet rabbits, Jaina finally managed to close her eyes. She was drifting somewhere in the realm of sleep and consciousness, dreaming of Yavin IV being run over by large white rabbits, when she found herself being shaken awake.
“Jaina!”
“Go away…” she heard her voice mumble. “The rabbits are taking over the Academy…”
“Jaina!”
“What?!” Jaina shot upright and found herself staring at a wide-eyed Hermione. The dorm room was dark – the moonlight poured in through the window, creating a pool of silver light on the floor. “Oh!”
Jaina quickly slipped out of bed. After making sure that Parvati and Lavender were fast asleep, Jaina and Hermione left the room as quietly as possible. They quickly hurried down the stairs on tip-toes and came out into the deserted common room.
Harry and Ron were no where to be seen. Exchanging glances, Hermione and Jaina both sat down in the comfortable chairs beside the fireplace. The embers of the dying fire were glowing red.
“Let’s hope they didn’t fall asleep,” Jaina murmured, suppressing a yawn.
Hermione merely nodded. She looked particularly anxious as she sat up straight in her chair, her feet pattering a fast-paced beat on the floor.
Suddenly, Jaina gasped as she felt something poke her shoulder. She spun around, but there was no one to be seen. Several moments later, she heard Hermione shriek in surprise.
“Ron!”
“Jeez, Hermione, keep it down!” Ron’s exasperated voice replied.
Jaina turned around and saw Ron and Harry appear out of nowhere, much like they had at the Burrow on Christmas Day. Jaina sighed and shook her head – of course they would want to play this trick again, especially on Hermione.
“Quit fooling around, you two,” Jaina said, trying to keep herself from laughing. “Let’s hope none of the prefects heard you.”
Ron shrugged.
“Quick, under the cloak,” Harry said. “We need to see if we all fit.”
It was a tight squeeze, to be sure, but thankfully they were all small enough to fit without their feet or someone’s arm showing. They had to clump into a tight knot to keep all of them under the cloak’s protection; Ron was in the back, with Jaina and Hermione squeezed together in front of him and then Harry squeezed in front of them.
“Okay, ready?” Harry sounded breathless from excitement.
They moved off very slowly, making sure that none of them would trip over each other’s feet. It was painstakingly slow, but they knew it was the only way that they would all get to the Restriction Section. They finally reached the portrait hole; they climbed through cautiously and Harry gently pushed it open.
They heard the Fat Lady squawk in surprise.
“Who’s there?” she asked suspiciously as they made their way out.
None of them replied as they shuffled off down the hall.
It seemed to take a very long time to reach the library. Jaina’s heart leaped at every shadow on the wall, thinking that a teacher would jump out at them. More than once her mind seemed to play tricks on her and she thought she saw Peeves floating down the hall. Whenever this happened, she jumped, causing the Invisibility Cloak to shift to her side, pulling it off of Ron and Hermione so that their left side arms and legs were visible.
“Jaina, don’t do that!” Ron told her for the tenth time as they rounded a corner. Hermione quickly pulled the Invisibility Cloak back over them so it covered them completely.
“Quiet!” Hermione hissed under her breath. “Look!”
They were almost at the library now. Up ahead, they could see someone moving in the shadows, heading straight at them. Though they were invisible, they were still solid, so they drew off to one side, hiding – though they did not need its protection – in the shadow of a large suit of armour. They held their breath as they saw Professor Quirrel run by, his face crumpled in a plainly frightened expression.
“I wonder where he’s going,” Harry murmured as soon as their Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher passed. “He doesn’t look very good.”
“We can’t investigate now, Harry,” Hermione told him firmly.
“Harry’s right, though,” Jaina said. She did not like the way Professor Quirrel looked at all. There was something going on.
“Do you think—" Ron began.
“We have something to do tonight!” Hermione interrupted sharply. “We can’t spend our entire night slinking around after teachers!”
“All right, all right, don’t get your wand in a knot,” Ron grumbled as they moved out from behind the armour and down the hall.
“Ouch!” Hermione shouted after they had gone several yards.
“Oh,
now
who’s being loud?” Ron growled.
“You stepped on my
foot,”
Hermione said through gritted teeth.
“Oh, stop arguing you two,” Jaina interrupted. “We’re here.”
They pushed the door to the library open, wincing as it creaked very loudly. They slipped through and let it close as quietly as possible before moving off through the rows and rows of books. They library was spooky at night, Jaina decided. The tall columns of bookcases made it so the shadows were long and dark. At least it provided them plenty of cover.
“Wait,” she murmured, pulling the entire group to a stop.
“What?” Ron growled.
“I think we have enough cover here to move around without the cloak,” she replied. “It’ll go faster.”
With that, she stepped out from under the cloak and into the shadows. She waited patiently for a moment, staring determinedly at the spot where she
knew
Ron, Harry and Hermione were standing. Then, after a moment, they appeared as Harry pulled the cloak off of all three of them and slung it over one arm.
“Now, be quiet,” Hermione warned. “Let’s not alert Madam Pince or Filch or any of the other teachers that we are here.”
“Well, I don’t think we’d
want
to do that anyways, Hermione,” Ron replied.
Hermione shot him an infuriated glare and then marched off down the rows of books with her nose in the air.
They eventually arrived at the Restricted Section. Looking around to make sure that there was no one hiding in the shadows waiting to catch them, entered the one section that they were barred from and slipped off into the darkness.
Jaina’s eyes began to hurt after several minutes of peering through the dark at the rows of books. She could barely make out which book was which, let alone read the titles. Finally, Hermione sighed exasperatedly.
“This is no use!” she said, pulling out her wand.
“Lumos!”
A tiny bulb of light appeared at the end of her wand. She shone it on the books, illuminating their worn spines and their titles.
The books in the Restricted Section were an ugly lot and Jaina could easily see why they were in the Restricted Section by only looking at their covers. Many of the spines were unreadable even with the wand’s light. Many were splattered with unknown substances, others with blood; some were torn and scratched. Others merely had thick, black bindings that had no marks on them while others were bound in some material that was the right colour and texture to be dried human skin.
Harry and Ron had also pulled out their wands and lit them; they began striding down the aisles, pulling books off the shelves at random. Hermione took a better approach and first looked under the letter “F”, searching for the name “Flamel.” When this failed, she hurried away, looking for an index of Restricted books that would help them in her search.
Jaina left her friends to their own devices. She scanned the rows of books and then, out of curiosity, pulled a thick, black volume down from its self. She staggered under its weight – it was much larger than any other book she had ever seen. Once she finally had it down, she sat on the hard, cold floor and settled the book into her lap. She stared at the cover. It had no title.
Shrugging, Jaina flipped open the cover. The first page was blank.
Finding this slightly odd, Jaina frowned and flipped through several more pages. All of them were blank. Wondering what the purpose of this book was, she continued flipping pages, thinking that she should probably put the book back since it obviously wasn’t going to help in her search for information on Nicolas Flamel.
She reached the middle of the book at this point. Yawning, she turned one final page and blinked. Her eyes widened in shock.
No. Way.
This should be impossible. This
had
to be impossible. First of all, the magic in Hogwarts should have caused it to malfunction. Secondly… it just didn’t seem
right
that she should find something like
this
on Earth.
The book was a compartment that stored what was obviously a small holodisc and a holoprojector. Jaina’s hands trembled as she went to activate it. Someone had clearly been to this planet before. How long ago had it been? What was the purpose of a hologram being hidden inside a book in the Hogwarts’ library?
She forced her trembling fingers to hit “play.”
She blinked as a tiny, blue figure appeared on the book. It was a man, dressed in a uniform that Jaina could not recognize – so it was old. He had long dark hair, dark eyes and a sallow expression. The sound crackled for several moments as the figure’s lips moved and then his voice, cold and hard, came through.
“… of starship
Odyssey
, class YT-1150. This… a message for the… Corporation… One standard week ago, I was pulled off course and drawn to a planet in the Unknown Regions called Earth. My ship was badly damaged and I have no way off world. Though the world is populated by humans, the technology here is at an unbelievably low level. They have only just recently discovered how to fly to the moon and back.
“Furthermore, some of the Humans here have abilities that seem to be akin to the Jedi. From what I have observed, they have the power to draw…”
There was another crackle, blocking out the man’s words. Jaina cursed.
“… of such power like nothing seen before. If they ever gain the power of hyperspace travel, this planet could easily prove a threat to the Republic, a threat that only the Jedi – I believe – would be able to conquer… they… very… spontaneous creations… Chancellor Palpatine and the Senate should be –”
Suddenly, an ear-piercing shriek pulsed through the library, screaming and screaming. Jaina gasped and bolted to her feet, the book in her lap falling to the floor and snapping shut, abruptly shutting off the hologram. She rushed down the aisles, looking for her friends. The screaming stopped abruptly, only to be followed by the sounds of the library door bursting open and Argus Filch’s voice growling, “Who’s in there?!”
“Jaina!” Hermione’s voice squeaked from nowhere.
Jaina skidded to a stop at the beginning of an aisle and peered through the darkness. Suddenly, she felt someone’s hand grab hold of her arm and she was yanked to one side, falling into Harry. She felt the silky material of the Invisibility Cloak flow over her and she breathed a sigh of relief as she looked at her friends.
“What was that?” she asked.
Thud!
All four of them winced and shuddered.
“You called, Filch?”
“Snape!” Hermione mouthed frantically, her eyes wide with fright.
“Yes, Professor. You told me to call you if someone broke into the library. It seems that a student has been out of bed – and in the Restricted Section!”
“Indeed… and they’ve left books scattered on the floor.”
“Let’s go,” Harry whispered.
The four friends slowly inched their way down the aisle and out of the Restricted Section, just passing by Filch and Snape. Snape was holding the large, black book that contained the hologram. Jaina hissed under her breath – she wanted that book desperately.
None of them dared to breathe as they slowly made their way out of the library. Once out, they took off at a run, barely caring that Ron’s left arm was clearly visible flying along at top speed several feet from the floor, or that Hermione’s pink slippers were pattering along without the rest of her body.
They finally came to a stop halfway back to Gryffindor Tower to catch their breath.
“That… was close,” Ron panted.
“No kidding,” Harry said, breathing heavily.
“I’ve got a stitch in my side,” Hermione groaned, wincing.
Jaina forced herself to control her breathing. “What happened back there? Who screamed?”
“No one,” Ron replied.
“It was a book,” Harry told her.
Jaina raised an eyebrow. “A book.”
“Yeah.”
“A screaming book.”
The four friends exchanged looks.
Hermione bit her lower lip. “So… um… did any of you find
anything
about Nicolas Flamel?”
“What have we here?” a low voice crooned.
Hermione gasped.
“Let’s see… left arm, right foot, pink slipper…
I
think old Peevsie has spotted some ICKLE FIRSTIES!”
Peeves the Poltergeist appeared, bobbing in midair, upside down, over their heads. He was wearing an orange and purple polka-dotted bow-tie along with a garish orange and yellow hat. He grinned wickedly at them and blew a very loud and wet raspberry.
“You had better RUN! Invisible FIRSTIES!”
They needed no more warning than that.
Jaina, Harry, Ron and Hermione shot off down the hall, their pains and aches from their previous run forgotten. With ever step, they could hear Peeves zooming along behind them, laughing menacingly. They darted down every corridor that they came to, hardly caring that they were now headed in the opposite direction from Gryffindor Tower. Several long staircases, a fake wall and a tapestry later, they burst into a deserted corridor, looking for some kind of escape.
“Look!” Ron breathed, pointing. “Door!”
Their hearts beating rapidly, they ran for class room who’s door was propped slightly open. They zoomed into the room, tripping over each other – Hermione went sprawling on the floor as she tripped over Ron’s feet and she pulled Harry down with her as she reached out for the first thing she saw that could steady her balance. The Invisibility Cloak slithered to the floor, covering none of them. Jaina turned and slammed the door closed before Peeves had a chance to enter the corridor.
They waited, holding their breath.
They heard the tapestry flutter and heard the sound of Peeves whizzing down the corridor, accompanied by his menacing laughter. Once it had faded, they allowed themselves to breathe freely.
“That… was close,” Ron said.
“No kidding,” Harry said, slowly getting to his feet and helping Hermione up. He turned to Jaina. “Nice get away though. Jaina, are… Jaina, what are you looking at?”
But Jaina was not looking at Harry. She was looking
past
him.
The classroom was obviously disused. The desks had all been pushed up against the sides of the walls and stacked upon each other. There was a large, clear space in the centre of the room. In the dark, Jaina could just make out the shape of something large propped against the wall.
Jaina pushed past her friends and walked towards it. As she approached, she realized that it was a mirror – something that was extremely out of place in a classroom. It was very large and seemed to shine with a majestic aura. It reached up to the ceiling; it had an ornate and intricately designed gold frame and it was supported by two clawed feet.
“What
is
that?” Ron asked, his mouth open in awe.
“It’s a mirror,” Hermione said.
“Well, I
know
that, but –”
“Look!” Harry pointed at the top of the mirror. “What’s that?”
Jaina squinted. Engraved at the very top was a passage of strange words:
Erised stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt on wohsi.
“What in all the name of all the spotted toadstools does that mean?” Ron wondered, making a face.
“I wonder what language that is,” Hermione murmured. “It’s not something I recognize…”
Harry stepped forwards to get a better look. He stared at the words for a moment and then shrugged, looking down. He was about to say something else when he stopped moving. He stood quite still, staring in shock and awe at the mirror.
“Harry…?”
Harry abruptly turned around, his movements abrupt; then he turned back and stared at the mirror again.
“Harry…?”
He shook his head, motioning for them to be silent. Whatever it was he was seeing, he looked slightly shocked but
happy
about it. A small smile began to spread across his face.
“Uh… Harry?” Ron asked. “What are you staring at? It’s just a mirror.”
“No!” Harry said fervently, shaking his head. “No, it’s not, I… My parents are… They’re there. In the mirror. I can see them.”
What?!
Jaina thought.
That doesn’t make any sense.
Jaina stood beside Harry and looked at the mirror as Hermione and Ron came up beside Harry on the other side. All she saw was their reflections – pale faces, tired eyes, mussed hair and pajamas.
“I don’t understand,” she said. “It’s only us.”
“They’re waving at me,” Harry continued, his eyes glued to the mirror. “Waving, smiling… Mum’s crying, but she’s smiling.” He turned to Jaina, Hermione and Ron. “Can’t you see them?”
They all shook their heads.
Harry frowned. “Go on, stand here, look in it properly –”
He moved out of the way and shoved Ron into his place.
As soon as Ron was looking straight into the mirror, his eyebrows went up.
“You see them, don’t you?” Harry asked. “Right there, that’s my –”
“Harry, that’s
me!”
Ron exclaimed.
Jaina and Hermione exchanged looks and turned to Harry, who looked very unsettled.
Ron didn’t even pay attention.
“But,” Ron continued, “I’m not the same… I’m older. I’m – I can’t believe it! I’m holding the Quidditch Cup! And I’m Head Boy!” He grinned suddenly and turned to Harry. “Do you think this mirror shows the future?”
Harry frowned. “How can it? My parents are dead. Let me have a look again –”
“No! I want –”
“Stop it!” Hermione came between them, holding her hands up. She shot furious glances at them both. “Don’t you see? There’s a powerful charm on this mirror – there has to be! I don’t think it shows the future, and I don’t think it shows the past, but whatever it is…” She glanced briefly at the mirror and her expression changed into a dreamy look. “Ron, Harry, let all of us have a turn.” With that, she shooed them away and stood in front of the mirror, her eyes captivated by whatever it was she was seeing.
After several moments, Ron asked, bluntly, “So, what do you see? A pile of books?” He sniggered.
Jaina was surprised that Hermione didn’t turn to tell him off. Instead, she continued to calmly look into the mirror.
“Very funny, Ron,” she murmured. “I see… books. And a classroom. I’m… I’m teaching Transfiguration class! At Hogwarts! Just like Professor McGonagall. And I’m doing that lesson where she transfigured her desk into a pig and back again…” Hermione stared happily at the mirror for several moments and then drew herself back, shaking her head as if to clear it. “Jaina?”
“Let me have another go!” Ron complained.
Hermione shot him an aggravated look.
Curious as to what she would see, Jaina approached the mirror and looked directly into it. She gasped, suddenly breathless. There, standing in front of her as plainly as if they were in the room, were her parents. They were smiling – just smiling. Behind them, Chewbacca was waving his massive Wookiee hands. To one side were R2-D2 and C-3PO; though Jaina could not hear them, she was sure that R2 was ferwooping greetings to her. On the opposite side of the mirror were her Uncle Luke and Aunt Mara, both smiling and waving at her. And there – in the centre – were all of her friends from the Academy, jumping and yelling and grinning as they waved. Tenel Ka was there, throwing a long red braid over one shoulder as she waved. Tahiri, barefoot and smiling, jumped up and down as she struggled to see past Lowbacca. Raynar and Lusa were there, too, as were Kam and Tionne, standing beside a number of their young charges from the Academy.
Jaina hardly realized it when tears began streaking down her cheeks.
“Let me have another turn!” Ron whined.
“Shut up, Ron,” Jaina snapped. “You’ve already had a long turn.”
“No, you’ve had long enough, Jaina,” Harry told her. “It’s
my
turn again.”
“But I can see all of my friends, my family!” Jaina hissed. “People who I’m
stranded
from! Stuck here on this tiny little planet! Who knows if I’ll see them again?”
“So?” Harry answered through gritted teeth. “My parents are
dead.
I’ll
never
see them again.”
“But
I
want to –”
“Who cares what you want? You’ve
had
your turn, Ronald!”
Suddenly, a very loud
meow
interrupted their argument. Falling silent, Jaina, Hermione, Ron and Harry turned and saw Mrs. Norris poking her head around the corner of the door, peering into the classroom. She hissed at them and turned around, vanishing.
“She’s gone for Filch!” Ron exclaimed.
“Under the cloak!” Harry said. “Let’s go, before Filch turns up.”
All thought of the mirror wiped away by their fear of Filch, the four friends hurried squished together under the cloak and made their way out of the classroom. They hurried down the hall and tried to find their way back up to Gryffindor Tower as their hearts pounded rapidly. They jumped at every shadow they saw, believing that it was Filch or Peeves. They were afraid to go around every corner.
Finally, they were back on the seventh floor. They sped up, not speaking, hoping that they would get back to the Gryffindor Common room soon. However, as they turned a corner in the hallway, they came face to face with the two people that they did
not
want to see at all: teachers. To be more precise – Snape, accompanied by Professor Quirrel.
They were headed in their direction. Without time to turn back around the corner, Harry forced their group off to one side.
They could see Professor Quirrel shaking as the teachers passed them. He was whimpering uncontrollably.
“…d-don’t know why you wanted t-t-to meet here of all places, Severus…”
“Oh, I thought we’d keep this private,” Snape said, his voice cold and his eyes glittering. “Students aren’t supposed to know about the Philosopher’s Stone, after all.”
Under the cloak, Jaina, Harry, Ron and Hermione exchanged wild glances.
Quirrel mumbled something incomprehensible.
“Have you found out how to get past that beast of Hagrid’s yet?”
“B-b-but Severus, I –”
“You don’t want me as your enemy, Quirrel,” Snape hissed, taking a step towards him.
“I-I don’t know w-what you –”
“You know perfectly well what I mean.” With this, Snape shoved the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor up against the wall, pointed a crooked finger at him. Jaina froze, holding herself very stiff. Quirrel was right beside her, less that five inches away… She glanced at her friends and saw, to her shock, that Harry was wincing, looking very much in pain and trying his hardest not to make a sound.
“B-but I d-don’t –”
“Very well,” Snape said, releasing Quirrel. “We’ll have another little chat soon, when you’ve had time to decide where your
loyalties
lie.”
Without waiting for a reply, Snape swept off down the corridor, leaving Quirrel panting and shaking. Once Snape was gone, Quirrel straightened and hurried off down the corridor, his lips working furiously as he mumbled words under his breath.
Once he was gone, Harry collapsed on the floor, his hand pressed to his scar.
“Harry!” Hermione whispered, her voice tight with concern. She dropped to her knees beside him, followed by Jaina and Ron, who helped Harry sit upright.
“What is it?” Ron asked anxiously.
“Scar,” Harry mumbled. His eyes were watering. He blinked and slowly stood up, letting his hand drop. “I’m fine now.”
“It hurt?” Jaina asked.
Harry nodded. “I don’t know why, but it just
did.”
The four friends exchanged looks.
“Come on,” Hermione said. “We should be getting back to the common room. It’s late.”
They threw the cloak back on and hurried off down the hallway. Once back in front of the Fat Lady’s portrait, Jaina stepped out from under the cloak and woke up the Fat Lady, who squawked loudly. She gave the password and the portrait swung forwards. They clambered through the portrait hole and said goodnight, Harry and Ron heading off for their own dormitory as Jaina and Hermione made their way up to theirs.
It was three o’clock in the morning when Jaina finally got to bed. Exhausted, she fell asleep, only to keep waking up as she saw vivid images of her family and friends vanishing in bursts of green and red light, accompanying by a maniacal laugh.

First reply!
That is amazing how Jaina found a holo from someone else stranded on earth. Nice plot twist there!
And Invisibility Cloaks are awesome.
Great story! Can't wait for more.

Wow. So who was stranded in 1970? Hmmm, Mr X would be approximately sixty years old in 1991 and probably live among muggles, unless the Ministry kept him imprisoned. What's Dumbledore not telling Jacen and Jaina?

Jaina felt her lips twitch upwards in a smile as soon as she heard Harry’s words. She knew exactly what that meant… and wandering around the castle at night, invisible to teachers, ghosts and walking suits of armour alike seemed very appealing.
It would, wouldn't it? And of course Hermione doesn't agree. Party pooper
I like how she surprised everyone with her change of attitude
“Go away…” she heard her voice mumble. “The rabbits are taking over the Academy…”
That's too hilarious. Millions of Ikrits!
First of all, the magic in Hogwarts should have caused it to malfunction. Secondly… it just didn’t seem right that she should find something like this on Earth.
The book was a compartment that stored what was obviously a small holodisc and a holoprojector.
Talk about nifty as all hell!
of such power like nothing seen before. If they ever gain the power of hyperspace travel, this planet could easily prove a threat to the Republic, a threat that only the Jedi – I believe – would be able to conquer… they… very… spontaneous creations… Chancellor Palpatine and the Senate should be –”
Oh my goodness, I love it, it's so amazing. Ugh, I hate that Snape has the book!
I really like that. I can see that being her greatest desire, especially at 11. I like that all four of them found it.
Love it
Just what I expected. I'm sure R1 was ferwooping greetings to her too
Exhausted, she fell asleep, only to keep waking up as she saw vivid images of her family and friends vanishing in bursts of green and red light, accompanying by a maniacal laugh.
That's frightening. I don't like that at all.

I'm glad this was updated again
it was another great chapter
I want to know what the rest of that message said... and who exactly it was that recorded the message
and now they have all found the mirror of erised... that could prove quite useful in the upcoming chapters. I really like that it was Hermione who came closest to figuring out what it was (realizing that it didn't show either the past or the future)
Can't wait to read more!

Ahhh, poor Jaina -- must be rough, missing her family and friends so much. Though the holo was VERY interesting -- too bad she didn't get a chance to hear the whole thing.
Excellent job!! Glad you finally updated

Thanks for the PM!
And, just a brief comment before I reply to the chapter, does anyone else notice how HIDEOUS the picture of the Vong thingy is on the "post reply" page?
Anyway.
What a great, action-packed chapter! And that recording that Jaina found is very interesting. I wonder how that'll tie into the plot later.
I really do love this story. Update soon!

He smiled at her, his eyes the brightest she'd ever seen them. She sucked in a sharp breath.
Did he know what he did to her?
She turned away quickly, her heart racing. She couldn't deny it anymore; she loved him.
And couldn't deny him...anything.

I'm really interested to see what became of the person who made that holo. I hope that it offers some kind of clue to Jaina about ways home.
The mirror was just sad all the way around. I can see how Jaina wouldn't want to step back from that vision.
Her nightmares are definitely not good. That sounds a lot like a killing curse to me, and that evil laugh is never good, no matter where in the universe you're living.
Great update as always

Just out of curiosity, can lightsabers deflect spells? That would be really cool! And now that Jacen and Jaina seem to have put their differences aside, can they now work like they used to, being completely connected twins and all? Cause then whoever they're fighting will have to deal with the force and magic at the same time, but from different directions. And could you manipulate spells with the force [aka if they're coming at you and about to hit you]? And could Jaina just put Cerberus to sleep with her force powers? And can she see into people's thoughts or are the other wizard's somehow shielded or is she just being polite?
AHHHH! Your story has set my mind fizzing with possibilities and ideas!
Great job! And great post!
ANYways, thanks for the PM. And do you know how to become someone's beta? I've seen the term used in nearly every fic I've read, but I've never figured out how to become someone's beta. Any ideas? And I'm just saying in general, not for your's or anyone else's specific fic. Sorry about all the annoying questions, but at least you know you're getting me to think. That's a good thing, right?
And lastly...UP! When are you going to post more?
