	“Oh, Wes Janson claimed his cousin, who is supposedly the maitre d' at The Corusca Gem, said that you were at the restaurant with a beautiful woman who was definitely not your sister because Han wasn’t with you.” Wedge explained. Wedge scratched his head, "Oh, that's right. Wes has those ways of extracting information. I can understand your concern, Luke, but if she's going to be part of the Rogue family anytime soon -- Hehehe And I love that both Luke and Wedge have the exact same thought about Wes Nice post, Liz I can't wait to see where this is going. 	I always loved the fact that everyone else,except Leia, knew how Luke and Mara felt about each other. Even before they even admitted it to themselves. Wedge just knows how Luke works. He knows that Luke does not get serious about a lady unless it is the real thing. Especially if he does not want Wes to know about it. That man runs his mouth worest then most females do. 	I tried to do these author replies earlier but my cable modem was giving me fits as usual. So, luckily I copied and pasted them to a text file just in case. JEDIFLYSWATTER ~ Wes Janson is a child caught in an adult's body and he would LOVE to get his dirty hands on this bit of gossip as you'll soon see. YodaKenobi ~ Well, Wedge is the only Rogue that features prominently in the next chapter, but a few others make cameos. That's all I can say for now. And Wedge is VERY sly about hinting about certain things, that make Luke startled..... He should really thank Wedge for the flowers idea. MirandaFair ~ Well, Luke has to ask her first, doesn't he? He just can't expect her to agree to something this big. All will be revealed in the next chapter. Jedi Trace ~ Had to keep that part that was chapter 10 for the repost, and it was actually frosting that was on her nose . I've been around toddlers for 7 years and I could see that happening. And yes, famous last words. Glad you got caught up. Lank_Pavail ~ Glad you liked it. When rewriting, I DID eliminate quite a bit, but I wanted to keep a few things and I added a few new things as you'll see soon. GeithJiseo2 ~ laughs And that chapter was really short. Wonder what you'll think of Chapter 12......... Jade_eyes ~ Thanks. I can't take credit for her name, though. She's a real sweetheart (most of the time anyway ) and I love her to bits. Wedge actually has another reason for asking to meet Mara, so you'll see what, soon. DaenaBenjen42 ~ Well, you'll see if Wedge succeeds in the next chapter. I'll post a small teaser from chapter 12 on SUNDAY the 9th and then Chapter 12 itself on the 10th. Mara was busy with another report from the Smuggler's Alliance that Talon Karrde had sent her. So, when Luke contacted her on the com, she was preoccupied. "Are you an Angel?" Now where did that line come from? Luke asked himself. "Luke? Where did you pick up such a cheesy pick-up line like that?" Luke shrugged. It had just come to him. Force prodding perhaps? "I don't know. Anyway - I had a big favor to ask of you." Mara made a face. 	Chapter 12 - Meet the Rogue Luke took a break from his work and decided to com Mara to see what she thought about meeting Wedge. The only problem was, where they could meet. Both of them were still a little squeamish about being seen in public as a couple. Han and Leia were the only ones that knew that they were dating and it seemed that Mara preferred it that way. Mara was busy with another report from the Smuggler's Alliance that Talon Karrde had sent her. So, when Luke contacted her on the com, she was preoccupied. "Are you an Angel?" Now where did that line come from? Luke asked himself. "Luke? Where did you pick up such a cheesy pick-up line like that?" Luke shrugged. It had just come to him. Force prodding perhaps? "I don't know. Anyway - I had a big favor to ask of you." Mara made a face. "Is this something to do with helping you with your lack of taste in interior design?" Luke laughed. "Uh, no. My friend Wedge Antilles somehow found out about us, well, actually that I was out to dinner with someone other than Leia and now he wants to meet you." "You told him, 'No', right?" "I couldn't exactly tell him that to his face, could I? He's my second oldest friend. The first one I made when I joined the Rebellion." Wedge Antilles, Wedge Antilles, now where did Mara recognize that name from? Of course! She had met him during the Thrawn Crisis more than a year ago. She knew the name, but couldn't remember the face. "Wait, I think I met a Wedge Antilles during that fiasco with Grand Admiral Thrawn. At the time I wasn't very nice to him." Mara admitted. "What did you do that wasn't so nice?" "I assumed he was a B-Wing Pilot." Luke laughed, "No, Wedge is an X-Wing Pilot. Though he was recently made a General and I get the feeling he hates it. He's happier in the cockpit of an X-Wing." "I'll consider meeting him, Luke, but where? We don't exactly want the public to know about us this soon," "That's what I'm trying to figure out. Maybe Wedge will have a solution. I'll give him another com and see what ideas he has." "Well, let me know and we'll talk, then." "Will do. And Mara?" "Yes, Luke?" "I Love you." Mara smiled. "I know." Luke disconnected from the com call with Mara and scrolled down his com numbers list for Wedge's private residence. It was the only way he'd be able to talk to Wedge without other pilots overhearing. He just hoped Wedge would be there. Luckily, Wedge was at his private residence. It looked like he had just finished eating his lunch. "Luke!" Wedge seemed glad to be taking a break or maybe was glad it wasn't someone calling to give him more paperwork. "Hey, Wedge." "So, can I meet her?" "She said she's willing to meet you again, but - " "Meet me again?" "I guess she met you once, over a year ago." "You'd think I'd remember meeting a different beautiful woman, but I don't quite remember--" "That's okay. The thing is, she's willing to meet you, but we're a little anxious about being seen in public. We don't exactly want our pictures to end up on the front cover of the Coruscant Babbler (TM)." "I can see your concern. The reason I wanted to meet your sweetheart is because I've started to date someone as well. I just wanted to invite you over for dinner. Iella is going to cook for me, and she asked if I had any friends I would like to invite over that might have a girlfriend or wife. Corran couldn't come because Mirax is off on the Pulsar Skate somewhere." "I see. So it'd be dinner at your apartment?" "Yeah. Just dinner. And I'd make sure there's blue milk or hot chocolate for you to drink if you'd prefer?" He wondered if Wedge was trying to butter him up. The conversation they had before where Wedge had said something about joining the Rogue family anytime soon still echoed in Luke's mind. Luke commed Mara again. "I've got the details for meeting Wedge," he said when she appeared. "Go ahead," she urged. "Here's the deal: He's got a girlfriend who is cooking for him for the first time and he wanted to invite a friend over to meet her at the same time. Corran, a member of his squadron, couldn't come because his wife is off planet. So, he took a chance with asking me." "How did your friend Wedge figure out you were dating someone?" "A practical joker from his squadron named Wes Janson." "And how did this monkey lizard Janson find out?" "I guess his cousin is the maitre d' at The Corusca Gem." "Why that conniving, evil - " "Wes or the maitre d'?" "Both!" "Mara, calm down. The maitre d' may not have given the information willingly. Wes has these ways of extracting information from people. If he really is Janson's cousin, he may have been subjected to Wes' interrogation tactics." He heard Mara sigh. "I'll go to dinner, but there better be a way of disguising ourselves so no one sees us. This Janson fellow sounds like he'd sell our pictures to the Coruscant Babbler(TM) in an instant if he managed to take a few." "You're right," Luke sighed. He didn't like using the Force for disguises very often, but this time he would be willing to do so. Luke disconnected and he felt like he was playing com-tag when he called up Wedge's personal com line once again. "Okay, Wedge, we just need the details on what night and what time." "How about 7:00 in the evening in two days?" "Sounds great. We'll see you then, Wedge." Luke let out his sigh of relief after he had finally made the plans with Wedge. Now that it was taken care of, he could get to more important things, like reading more data cards. He was engrossed in another data card when the com beeped urgently. He didn't feel like doing face to face again, so he pressed the voice only activation and said, "Skywalker here," "Hey, Kid!" "Oh, Hi, Han." "Hi, Han? That's all you have to say to your favorite brother-in-law?" "Unless Leia and I have a long lost triplet sister, Han, you're my ONLY brother-in-law." "So, kid, we were wondering if you'd like to come over for dinner this week," "Me, or Mara and I?" "You and Mara, of course." Two dinner invites in one week? Something is going on. "What night?" "How does Thursday sound for you?" "Actually Mara and I have plans that night." "You're going to elope? Already? Look kid, it won't work, even if you kidnap --" Han was cut off when Leia pushed him out of the way. "Sorry about that, Luke. Han's in his scoundrel mode again. If you have plans with Mara, we can just reschedule for sometime later," "Yeah, we do have plans. We're eating dinner over at Wedge's place." "Then I'll com you sometime later and reschedule, okay?" "Okay, talk to you later, Leia." Two days later, Luke met Mara at her apartment. She let him in and he used the force to disguise her as a tall black haired woman. He then disguised himself as a man with brown hair cut into a crew cut. Mara had to place her hand over her mouth to keep from laughing. "Are we supposed to be from the Rouge Squadron or something?" "Don't you mean Rogue Squadron?" "No, rouge. It’s a kind of cosmetic women use sometimes." "This is the best I could do, Mara, we'd better get going." "You will remove the disguise when we get there, right?" "Yes, of course." Mara wondered if he really wouldn't, when he surprised her by kissing her deeply. "You can count on it," He whispered. And she started to laugh again as they left her apartment to go to Wedge's for dinner. When they arrived, Wedge was just finishing setting the table. Iella Wessiri was in the kitchen finishing preparations for dinner. " Now, who is this that you invited?" "Luke Skywalker." "Oh, of course. He's the one that founded Rogue Squadron?" "Yes, though he usually likes to give me co-founder credit." Iella laughed as she put the final touches on dinner. She was looking forward to this as much as Wedge was. When the apartment's buzzer sounded, Wedge went to answer it. He almost didn't recognize Luke. If it hadn't been for Luke's voice, he wouldn't have ushered them in. "Luke? Is that you?" "Yeah, sorry Wedge," Using the Force again, his own features came back. Then he did the same to the tall black haired woman next to him, who slowly turned back into the red haired Mara Jade. "Hi, I'm Wedge Antilles, nice to meet you," He extended his hand to Mara. "Hi, Wedge. I'm Mara," So far so good. "Wedge, tell them to come in and have a seat!" Iella called from the dining room. "Oh, sorry. Here, you two," He gestured to the couch in the room. Mara sat down gratefully. Luke sat down next to her and squeezed her hand. It'll be okay, Mara. A few minutes later, a blond woman that Luke assumed must be Wedge's girlfriend, came into the living room. "Hi, I'm Iella," She said, going to shake Luke and Mara's hands. "Nice to meet you, Iella. This is my friend Mara, " "Mara, it’s nice to meet you." "It’s nice to meet you, too, Iella." "Dinner is ready, by the way. And if we could just drag Wedge away from the Sling Ball Tournament scores on the holonet, we could eat," She glared at Wedge, who was sitting at the screen of the holonet, scrolling the screen down. Wedge guiltily shut off his holonet unit. "Sorry, Iella. Sometimes I forget when I have guests over." Luke and Mara sat down at the table across from Wedge and Iella. It was strange for Luke not to have his niece and nephew nearby, sitting in their highchairs, or to hear Han crack a joke about See Threepio's cooking. "This looks good, Iella," Luke said, as she set the main course on the table. "Well, I'm glad somebody likes it," She said, giving Wedge a skeptical look. "I made one bad comment about the flavor and she's all over me like I'm Jabba the Hutt," Wedge said innocently. Mara took a slice of the meat course and Luke did the same. As he tasted it, he started to cough. "See Wedge? I told you not to add that additional Correlian Shintz spice. She poured Luke a glass of Blue Milk. He took a sip and gave her a smile. "Thanks, Iella." "I'm sorry about that Luke. Wedge thinks just because his grandmother Mitzi used to make this with the additional spice and everyone just raved about it when he was younger, that you'd like it, too. He keeps forgetting you're not Correlian." She gave Wedge another loving glare as she poured some wine into Mara's goblet. "Did you want any wine, Luke?" "Actually, I'll stick with blue milk tonight, but thanks anyway." "So, how long have you two been going out?" "About two and a half months." Luke answered. "Has Leia figured it out yet?" Wedge inquired, taking the bottle of wine from Iella and pouring himself and then her, some. "Han and Leia found out by accident. We were at their place for dinner for Jaina and Jacen's birthday and we sort of got - " "You got caught kissing? I never thought you'd have it in you, Boss!" Despite the fact that Luke had been retired from Rogue Squadron for several years now, Wedge still loved calling him 'Boss'. Luke flushed and Mara decided to change the subject. "So, how did you meet Iella, Wedge?" "Corran Horn introduced us. She was his partner when he was in CorSec." "It took him awhile to ask me out. He kept having bad dreams about dating some weird bird woman who helped design the Death Star or something and got all freaked out. I had to ask Corran to soften him up a bit. Then he finally came around and we've been dating for about six weeks now." Iella finished the story. The rest of dinner was silent and Luke managed to choke down the rest of his meat despite the extra tangy spices that Wedge had poured on earlier. After dinner, they relaxed and chatted until Luke looked at his chrono and realized how late it was. "I think Mara's got some paperwork to do for the Smuggler's Alliance and I have to get up early tomorrow so I can do some more work on my Jedi database." Wedge walked them to the door. He whispered something in Luke's ear and Luke blushed. Mara wondered what Wedge had asked him, but said nothing. Since it was so late, Luke decided a force disguise was not necessary this time and they went back to their respective apartments. ***** The following day, Wedge walked into Rogue Headquarters to see that Wes Janson had set up a poll. He was using the information his 'cousin' gave him to declare a poll with questions regarding Luke's future with this mysterious woman. "Hey, what's going on here?" Wedge called out in his authoritative General's voice. The rookies that had been gathered around the poll scrambled away towards the simulator room, as they did not want to get on the wrong side of their commanding officer. "Wes, Hobbie, Tycho, Corran, what is going on here?" Corran threw up his hands, "I had nothing to do with it, Boss." And he jogged off to the simulator room. Hobbie shrugged his shoulders and followed Corran. Tycho took one look at Wedge's face and ran after Hobbie and Corran. That left Wes Janson, who was gleefully looking at the poll results. "Okay, Janson, spill it, or you're going to be demoted to cleaning crew!” Wes froze, "I was just conducting an innocent poll, Boss!" Wedge knew that Wes liked practical jokes, but sometimes he went too far. "I suggest you get to the simulator room before I demote you." Wes Janson's usually gleeful face paled and he ran off to the simulator room. Wedge glanced around the room to make sure no one was watching, then took a look at the poll choices. Having personally met Luke Skywalker's girlfriend, he had an idea of what could happen in the future. A) It was really Leia, wearing a wig B) It wasn't Luke after all, the maitre d' must be blind C) Blind Date D) This is the ONE, but nothing will come of it E) Going to the Chapel Wedge pressed the button next to one of the choices, then went off towards the simulator room, whistling.
