	JediTrace ~ You'll get your answer right now! Chapter 16 - And the Answer Is? Mara stared at the ring in the box. Her heart was beating rapidly. She looked into Luke's hopeful blue eyes and answered, "Yes," Luke took the ring from the box and slipped it onto her finger. Then he wrapped his arms around her, pulled her close and kissed her deeply. Their kiss would have lasted longer had it not been for the sounds of clapping and whistling. Mara made a face and Luke felt her emotions start to descend to annoyance. "Hold on, Mara," he said, clasping her hand tightly. "Wedge?" Wedge Antilles and his girlfriend Iella came from their hiding spot, with guilt evident on their faces. "Sorry, Luke, we couldn't help ourselves!" Wedge said, grinning from ear to ear. "It isn't every day that we can witness such a beautiful event," Iella said, glancing meaningfully at Wedge. "Oh, uh, we'll let you go on your way," Wedge said, taking the visual hint that Iella had given him. Wedge and Iella walked ahead of them to provide "cover". Before the two couples parted at the entrance to the Gardens, Wedge slyly hinted once again that he wanted to be in the Wedding Party. Luke answered with a nod then he and Mara went on their way back to their apartment building. When they reached her apartment, Luke whispered "I Love You" and kissed her goodnight. She responded with her own //I Love you, too// via the Force. She went to bed that night, admiring her engagement ring. At the Solo Apartment Leia was finishing up cleaning up after dinner while Han was putting Jacen and Jaina to bed. An unusually high amount of happiness hit her in the spot where her twin bond with Luke was and she grinned from ear to ear. If what she suspected it was about was true, there would soon be another family member at birthday celebrations and Winter Fetes for many years to come. At Rogue Squadron Headquarters Corran Horn was the last to leave the simulator room and even he felt a surge in the Force of undeniable radiant happiness. He had a sneaking suspicion what had just happened, but he didn't want to say anything out loud to Hobbie or Tycho as long as Wes Janson was in the vicinity. * * * A few weeks later, Luke and Mara were headed for Han and Leia's to celebrate Winter Fete, as had been a tradition for Han, Luke and Leia since the temporary defeat of the Empire at Endor. Mara was carrying her present in her hand, which cleverly was hiding her engagement ring adorned on her finger. A week ago, they had gone together to pick out special gifts, specifically for the twins, to announce to Luke's family that they were getting married. They had each picked out a unique gift announcing this and then wrapped them together at Luke's apartment the night before. Luke rang the door buzzer and they waited. A few minutes later, an uncomfortable looking Han Solo answered. He was dressed in what Luke suspected had been his General's dress uniform cleverly modified into a formal suit. The pained expression on his face told Luke that he didn't want to dress up. Behind him, the twins stared at the arrivals, each of them dressed in their best. Jaina had her hair done in small braids, was wearing a yellow dress with white tights. Jacen looked like a miniature Han Solo, from the little suit he was wearing to the exact same pained expression on his face. "Han, don't just stand there, let them come in!" Leia's voice called from another side of the living room. "Sorry." Han said, moving aside to let them enter the room. The living room was decorated for Winter Fete. Han had managed to get a tree somewhere and it was decorated with various ornaments, hung up high so they would be out of the twins' reach. "Happy Winter Fete!" Leia said, coming forward to hug her brother and his girlfriend. "I can take your gifts," Leia offered, reaching for the gift that Mara was holding. Mara stubbornly refused to let go of her gift. She wasn't ready for the ring to be revealed quite yet. She was hoping for a special opportunity, mainly when Jaina and Jacen were allowed to open their gifts. "Thanks, Leia, but I'll hold on to my gift. Don't want an overly eager child to open it before its time," She said, masking her nervousness in the Force, or at least attempting to. Luke willingly handed over his gift and Leia raised an eyebrow at Mara, but didn't say anything. She suspected something, but wasn't going to pry. Once they were fully inside of the apartment, Luke noticed a tall furry companion standing in a corner. It looked like Chewbacca had made it back for Winter Fete as well. He came forward and grabbed Luke in a big hug. Luke was used to Chewie's hugs, but this one seemed a little different. Han had to tell Chewie, "Hey, let Luke go. There's another guest you can hug," Chewie complied and patted Luke on the shoulder as he turned to Luke's companion. //Um, Luke// Mara talked to Luke via the Force. //Yes?// //I've heard about Chewie's hugs// //Don't worry// Luke gave her a reassuring smile. Chewbacca grabbed Mara in a bone crushing hug. After Han told him to ease up, He let her go and pushed her towards Luke with a big wookiee grin. Luke and Mara finally sat down on the couch and almost immediately, little Jaina tried to climb into Mara's lap. "Hold on there, Princess," Han said to his daughter. He grabbed a hold of the struggling, squirming toddler in his arms and turned to Leia. "Should we let the twins open their gifts first?" "Yes, Han, I think it’s okay if the twins' open their gifts from Uncle Luke and Mara first." She deliberately eliminated the word 'Aunt' because she didn't want to let on that she suspected her brother would be making a very special announcement on this day. "Alright, you can open your gifts from Uncle Luke, kids," He plopped Jaina back down in Mara's lap and the girl grabbed for the gift that was covering Mara's ring adorned hand. "Hold on there, Princess. I need to give Jacen his gift," Leia put Jacen in Luke's lap and Han handed over his package. Jaina's brown eyes looked up at Mara hopefully. "Do you need help?" She asked the toddler. The little girl nodded her head. "Okay." Mara placed her non-gift covered hand over Jaina's and helped the little girl pry the wrapping paper away from the box. Then she helped Jaina tear the tape away from the box. Jaina lifted the lid and threw it to the side, nearly hitting her Uncle Luke and brother Jacen. Beneath some tissue paper, she pulled out a shirt. "Oh, let me see," Leia said, coming to take the shirt. Unfolding it, she revealed it was white with the embroidered words in purple pronouncing "My Aunt Loves Me". Leia's eyes widened as if she knew what had just been revealed by the gift, but Han, for once, was oblivious. "'My Aunt Loves Me'? I don't have any sisters that I know about, Leia, and we're sure there wasn't a Skywalker triplet, right?" Han asked, visually examining the shirt while standing next to his wife. "Han, you idiot!" Leia elbowed him. Leia was pretty sure what the shirt meant, but she was waiting for the official announcement to come from her brother and his fiancé. She sat back down in her seat as Jacen was struggling to open his gift with Uncle Luke's help. Finally, after thinking the bag was a hat and being convinced the present was INSIDE the bag, not the bag itself, he pulled out the stuffed toy ewok wearing the shirt that declared 'This is a special gift from my Auntie'. It was then that Leia finally had affirmation of her suspicions. She jumped from her seat and went back over to Luke and Mara. "Can I see it?" She asked elatedly. Mara nodded and took her right hand out of her pocket, where she had briefly hidden it from view. The ring glowed in the bright lights, even letting Leia catch a glimpse of the green finish. "Congratulations!" She hugged them both. All this time, Han was still trying to figure out how the twins had an Aunt. Leia finally had to hit him with the empty gift bag that had contained Jacen's gift. It was then that Han saw the engagement ring on Mara's finger and figured out the rest. Chewbacca came up to Luke and Mara. Han translated the Shyriiwook for them. [Congratulations Luke. I now extend my life debt to you and your intended Mate] . "I am honored, Chewie," Mara responded, blushing, but she was smiling. Knowing that they were short on time, Leia handed Luke his Winter Fete gift. "I picked this up when Han and I made that trip to Tatooine about three years ago, and I kept forgetting to give it to you," Luke slowly took the paper off the package and pulled out a framed print of the Tatooine sunset. He did not get emotional too often, but this was the sort of thing that made him do it. "Wow, Leia, thank you, this is beautiful," He said, trying to control the tears that were on the verge of falling down his cheeks. Mara squeezed his left hand. "Its beautiful," She breathed. "I guess I never took time to appreciate it when I was there," She whispered. "And I have a gift for you as well, Mara." Leia took the opportunity to hand Mara an envelope with the New Republic Chief of State's seal on it. Mara glanced at Leia and wondered what could be inside. Sitting back down on the couch next to Luke, who placed his arm around her, she opened the envelope and pulled out a flimsy. It read: To Miss Mara Jade: On Orders of the New Republic High Council, we hereby give you pardon for crimes committed under the influence of Emperor Palpatine. It was signed with the Chief of State Mon Mothma's name, along with many members of the Republic Council. Mara gasped, tears welling up in her eyes. "I, I don't know if I deserve this Leia. I did so many things I regret." Leia placed a comforting hand on Mara's other arm. "We know that, Mara. I was going to wait to give this to you, but now that you're officially joining the family, I figured it would be the perfect time!" That made Mara's tears really come, but she was still managing a smile. And she even accepted a hug from Luke's sister. 	DaenaBenjen42 happy sigh So, so wonderful, all of it. "My Aunt Loves Me" has got to be the cutest way to announce an engagement ever. Loved that. I completely agree with DBJ 42 and couldn't have said it better! I only wish that Wedge and Iella hadn't been discovered quite so soon. LOL! I would have liked a little more "mush" between Luke and Mara first. I was pleased but shocked that Mara let Luke off the hook so easily and said "Yes!' right away. Loved it!

	is the shirt that inspired the gift for Jaina. My three nieces have all worn this shirt since my oldest niece started to wear it when she was 2 years old. Not sure if my youngest niece (3 1/2 years old) can wear it anymore or she still owns it. The only difference is the wording and the color of the shirt. I only have one more chapter pre-written & beta read (Chapter 17), so I seriously have no clue when chapters following that will be ready for posting -- I'm still trying to write chapters 18 - 20. 	That was so sweet. Hell, I could of never of said no to Farmboy. I think it was funny that Han was clueless there for awhile. That does not happen to often.
