Sender: Unknown, Unknown Recipient: Fev Re’mor, Fondor Daily Enquier Miss Re’mor, I was exceptionally impressed by your article Corellian Separatist Movement—Justifed? Your contribution very likely played a significant part in convincing Fondor to join the movement. Unlike many of your colleagues, you are driven by the need to discover and spread truth. I respect such sentiments and have a job proposition for you. If you are interested in gaining better coverage of the conflict and interviews with important members, please let me know. Do not worry about funds, as the job pays well. A contact will be waiting for you at the Pidoria cantina in Fondor City two days from now at 1100 local time. It is my sincerest hope that you will be there.

Only a Fool Ignores the Past There is an Alderaanian saying: “To truly understand the present, one must understand the past.” The Naboo are said to hold to the idea that, “those who forget past mistakes are doomed to repeat them.” A great truth is found in these proverbs: we must know our past to deal not just with the present, but to aid us in safeguarding the future. That is all well and good on a personal scale; we are not likely to forget painful, personal mistakes. However, its true significance lies in galactic history — our collective past. Only through understanding history can we hope to realize the machinations of those in the present and future. Galactic history as a whole is too extensive a subject to cover here. Thus, we shall narrow our examination to the history of Corellia. Perhaps through our study we will learn something to assist us in this current conflict. Corellia is both a system and a planet. It has been hypothesized that the planets of the Corellian system were artificially moved there by a mysterious ancient race using Centerpoint Station and planetary repulsors as many as one million years ago. It is unknown why these planets would be gathered from around the galaxy and placed together. Collectively, the planets are known as the Five Brothers. Corellia, which orbits closest to the system’s star, Corell, is occasionally referred to as the Eldest Brother; Selonia and Drall also orbit the star. Talus and Tralus, however, orbit Centerpoint Station like moons, while the station, in turn, orbits Corell. The name Corellia is often used interchangeably to refer to either planet or system; to understand which is meant, you must consult the context. Corellia was among the founding planets during the birth of the Galactic Republic over twenty-five thousand years ago. It is thought that they had a hand in the invention of the hyperdrive as we know it today. For thousands of years Corellian was chief in ship building and exploration. Roughly five hundred years ago, Corellian allied with Selonia and Drall in a failed attempt to conquer the Federation of the Double Worlds, the government of the twin planets, Talus and Tralus. A few decades later, Corellia made its first bid at independence from the Republic. Though the endeavor ultimately failed and the system remained a reluctant member of the Republic, Corellia managed for a short time to close its sector's borders and withdraw from the Senate using Contemplanys Hermi — a clause included in the Republic’s constitution that, when enacted, let Corellia and the Corellian system formally withdraw from the Galactic Republic Senate at the expense of relinquishing its veto power for the extent of its seclusion. Several decades later, Corellian, which had been an absolute monarchy, became a democratic government when its King, Berethon e Solo, relinquished some of his power. Over a century later, the constitutional monarchy of the Royal House of Solo was overthrown by a powerful corporation in order to establish a more business friendly regime. This new government was known as the Diktat. Roughly one hundred years later, Corellia was once more on the path to independence. A few months before the start of the Clone Wars, Contemplanys Hermi was once again invoked; this time by Corellian Senator Garm Bel Iblis in protest to the Military Creation Act — an act to build a standing army for the Republic. This effort to protect the system failed and Corellia was soon embroiled in the turmoil of the Clone Wars, though it fortuitously was spared from any direct military action. At the creation of the Empire, Diktat Dupas Thomree made a bargain with Palpatine: Thomree could govern the Corellian Sector as he wished so long as he paid taxes, war materiel, and homage to the Emperor. Even though the Empire gave them an illusion of autonomy, Corellia was quickly wracked by anti-Imperial protests. When Thomree died, he was replaced by Daclif Gallamby, who was nothing more than a pawn of the Imperial Governor. With dreams of secession, Thrackan Sal-Solo went underground and began plotting. After the creation of the New Republic, Corellia still lay in Imperial hands. Due to the numerous Corellians living within New Republic-held territory, the planet was represented in absentia by Doman Beruss on the New Republic Provisional Council. As a consequence, many Corellians loyal to the New Republic were forbidden by the Diktat from returning to their homeworld. In approximately 12 ABY, the Corellian Sector finally joined the New Republic; the Diktat was removed and the Governor-General instated in his place. However, the New Republic government was almost ousted when Thrackan Sal-Solo took power during the First Corellian Crisis in 18 ABY and declared himself Diktat after murdering the New Republic appointed Governor-General. He was beaten and Marcha of Drall was made Governor-General. Nevertheless, Sal-Solo did not give up and managed to get elected Governor-General after the Centerpoint Station mishap during the Yuuzhan Vong War resulted in Marcha’s resignation from office. Dreams of independence still in his head, Sal-Solo traveled to Yuuzhan'tar after the Fall of Coruscant in an effort to gain the Yuuzhan Vong’s help in driving the New Republic out of Corellia, but was instead forced to lead the Peace Brigade and was impeached as Governor-General. Despite his efforts, Corellia remained a loyal member of the New Republic, and shortly there after, the Galactic Alliance. All thoughts of independence were not lost. After the Yuuzhan Vong War, Corellia had been rewarded by the Galactic Alliance by the removal of the office of the Governor-General. The Five Brothers were united by a system government headed by a Prime Minister Aidel Saxan, with each planet also electing its own Head of State. Corellia had escaped much of the damage during the War, which left it admirably placed to augment its already immense economic power. As Corellia flourished, it pardoned wartime criminals like Thracken Sal-Solo, who was subsequently elected the Head of State of Corellia. The Corellian system once again began to yearn for independence. It began to delay its conscription contributions and tax payments to the Alliance, while making use of Alliance infrastructure and trade benefits. Events were coming to a flashpoint. Through our look at the history of Corellia, we can see the pattern of rebelliousness and fierce independence. Corellians are a prideful people. The current conflict is no surprise to those who have studied the history of this planet and system. All the pieces needed for Corellia’s next bid for independence were there. It is only through willful ignorance of history that more did not see it coming. What does history tell us will happen next? There is now far more than just Corellia involved in this conflict; the future cannot be deduced from just a study of Corellian history any longer. For that, you would need to consult the full spectrum of galactic history.
