SpiritofEowyn:
=( Eek! Why hasn't Danni attacked the commander with the force yet?
Plot reasons.
Seriously, since Denn has his blaster trained on her and Zekk one little movement and Denn will shoot. If only Danni had a distraction . . .
Poor Zekk?
Well, when you consider the feelings he's been bottling up this whole time . . .
... Wait.. there only is a slight possibility of any kind of happy ending?!
I didn't say that. I just said the ending could go either way for the moment.
nikjo88:
ohno!!!
ya...y hasn't dannni done smt with the force??
n is jys only temporarily blinded???
To add to my reply to Eowyn, it was also Draco's orders, too . . . as for Jys, yeah, she's only temporarily blinded. Don't worry.

Kinda Stover-esque, don't you think?
Go Zekk!
Considering how Zekk kinda just beat up an entire special-forces battalion I'd say the same too.
And that rotten traitor holding Danni hostage...
The resolution to that will come Tuesday.
Great chapter
!
Thanks for reading.
jasa:
Wow Zekk!
He's cool when he's mad, ain't he?
Thank you.
More Tuesday!

Great chapter!
I must admit I was worried about Zekk within those first few chapters. It seemed that all that power he was using was too... dark.
But instead he was awesome. Wonderful description of the raw power he demonstrated.
Poor Jys... that lil' girl has had a rough hand dealt to her.
I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next!

Danni_Quee_Solo:
Thank you very much.
I know Jys is blind for now, but I promise it'll be fixed. As for Zekk and Danni, um . . . how about you find out right now?
jaina_clan_solo:
Thank you. I wanted to write Zekk extremely strongly; for a J/Jer I actually don't despise the man. As for Jys . . . her hand is rough, yes. Especially since it's her brother's fault why she ended up there in the first place . . .
Sorry about taking so long.
Here you guys go at last.
CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN
Fire. All around Bakura there is fire. As ships on both sides encounter each other, they fire wildly, hoping their weaponry will connect before the enemy's. Coralskippers and starfighters weave throughout the massive starship melee, like little wasps around a pack of warring wolves. And all over the battle, things erupt into flames. Starfighters explode into little yellow-white-red-black supernovas. Coralskippers are torn into little pieces of flaming rock. Ships lose whole sections to vacuum. As the ships' flames fade due to a lack of oxygen, those not lucky enough to be immediately charbroiled are pulled into outer space's dark embrace, to die of implosion.
Both sides move, playing their hands. The defenders struggle to move around their civilian counterparts, and they are hindered by the mere presence of the civilians. The attackers have no such factor holding them back. They are more than willing to kill and slaughter everyone on the defending end.
This is what happens when one side, already outnumbered, is burdened further. This is what happens when one side decides to take no quarter, show no mercy, and simply aims to butcher all remnants of their enemy. This is not a war. It is a desperate fight to live for one side, and a simple clean-up operation for the other. It will soon become a massacre as the outer ring's numbers continue to overwhelm.
The outer ring is closing in on the inner, a few parsecs with each minute. Soon, the inner ring will be hemmed in too much to even concieve escape. They will be too busy wildly firing at the enemy any enemy, and dying, to even think of such a fantasy. The outer ring has no such worry, it can simply blast away at will, and drive the inner closer to the planet. There, then, the planet will become a graveyard on the same scale of so many other planets across this galaxy, but unlike the others there is nowhere left for the inner ring to run. Bakura is the last place to run. All that can possibly happen is a final stand.
And during that final stand, one ship somehow manages to hold its ground. And slowly, it will draw notice. As its massive scatter-shot beams lance into the enemy assault forces, perhaps even the commander of the outer ring will take notice. But that has not happened yet. And so, firing a new salvo every standard minute, it continues to kill enemy vessels, fighting for a cause that has long lost its war.
An admiral looks upon the ensuing destruction and realizes that he cannot win this battle. But there is no escape either. As he sees a dovin basal heading directly for Bakura, he tries to summon whatever forces he has to stop it. But he will fail. Civilian ships are all around them, and in their panic they interrupt his movements and get in his way. Soon, the admiral will be in the position of Garm Bel Iblis at Coruscant: firing through the civilians to attack the enemy. It is not an enviable position, and the last thing the admiral wants to be known for was butchering civilians, like Bel Iblis.
And then, on the outer ring, the brother of the Yuuzhan Vong warmaster smiles as the destruction continues. He is going to win. He watches the enemy fall over themselves in their futile efforts to stop his brother's strategy. No matter what happens today, he is going to win this battle. And with victory's sweet, tarty taste approaching him once again, he knows this will be for the final time. And, growing disinterested with the mundane destruction of the infidels, he wonders how he will live his life without victory's taste every few days . . .
"I
said
, don't move, Jedi." Denn Jerrevickk shouted at the Jedi Knight he knew as 'Zekk'. He had not expected to be caught out here in the hallway. He had wanted to be in the special room, surrounded by laserproofed transparisteel windows. With an reinforced door. Where even this Jedi could not even fathom entering. Denn had not planned on being caught out here, almost within striking distance.
But nothing else had gone according to plan so far. So why should this have? Somehow, surprise had escaped Denn's mind and instead he thought furiously. What can he do to salvage this disgusting little plan of his?
He saw Zekk take a step forward towards him nevertheless, a flame burning in his emerald eyes. Even at this distance, Denn could see the man's shadows crawl across those eyes like spiders. Fear gripped Denn and he felt both of his hands shake violently. He could barely maintain his grip on his blaster pistol, and finally, he realized there was no way he would hold onto it with only one hand.
So he let Danni Quee fall onto the ground. However, he shoved her into the wall, so she would fall down, and both of his hands gripped the pistol tightly. Struggling to get even one of hands to steady, he stared at Zekk again, who had stopped, and was now only staring at him. Unblinkingly, thoroughly. Denn Jerrevickk was not just uneasy looking at the man's eyes, or his contorted, turbulent expression. He was outright
terrified
. All he could see was his death.
Unless he did something,
anything
, to stave it off. Even if it would buy him mere seconds. One second, even. One second of breathing, hearing, seeing, unhurt . . . it was worth whatever Denn Jerrevickk would have to do.
His tumult was such that he could barely control his voice. Even now, even in his scared, half-pathetic state, he knew he sounded more desperate and frightened than threatening and powerful. Zekk, just by entering this compound, had taken control of this away from Denn. And Denn
hated
, more so than
feared
, having someone besides Denn Jerrevickk in control. It was a stigma carried since he was a small child, since he saw the Ssi-ruuvi invasion, the first one, when he was just a toddler.
"Stay away from us, Jedi!" he shouted, looking back and forth from both Jedi Knights rapidly. His blaster remained fully trained on Quee, but where the sight was trained upon varied each second. One moment it was on the stomach, next was the head, then it was her left shoulder . . .
Zekk took another step and Denn fumbled with the switch, turning it from 'stun' to 'kill'. "I'll shoot her, Jedi! Right in the stomach. Right where her precious baby is." he shouted.
The lights flickered again, and there was darkness for one instant, but when the lights returned no one had moved. Zekk hadn't even dared to move when darkness gave him an advantage. Denn had no idea why Zekk would not move, but the Jedi's hesitation was to Denn's advantage, to a point. Denn knew if he fired Zekk would rush him headlong, and kill him. He would need to forestall the shooting as long as possible, if he was not going to bluff.
Then came a noise he had not envisioned hearing.
Plink
. A metallic sound, and a soft clacking noise after that, bouncing twice of the ground before a soft roll. Then nothing.
Denn looked down. And he saw his salvation on the ground. The blaster battery pack, on the ground, next to Quee's legs. Battery fluid leaked from the downed pack, near the fallen Jedi's black-and-brown robes.
He looked at the pistol, whose catch had been released, to Quee, whose blue eyes twinkled with the pleasure of vengeance. A small smile crept across her face, and amusement joined the smile.
"No one threatens my baby. No. One." she hissed, the glint in her eyes suddenly turning hateful,
unnatural
.
Then she turned towards Zekk, and Denn could not help but find himself looking towards the dark-haired Jedi as well. Zekk was already moving, his lightsaber a turqoise flame, his green eyes orbs of ferocious anger. "Oh
crap
." Denn only had time to say. He could not fumble for another battery pack. He could not even turn and try to run. Nothing would buy him even one more second.
Denn Jerrevickk was going to die.
And as he stood there, as he saw the cruel neon sheen of the lightning blade stab into his chest, spraying blood –
his
blood, he knew he was gone. All of his effort, everything he had done, had only hastened his downfall. And that, considering his actions to ensure his survival, Denn knew he would not enjoy the afterlife.
Denn Jerrevickk was dead before he hit the floor.
Thud
. The sound of the Bakuran major's head hitting the floor greeted Zekk a moment after stabbing the major directly in the heart. The major's eyes rolled up into their whites, and, mercifully, his eyes had closed already. Blood slowly spreading from the lethal wound, his body quickly stopped moving, as the rest of his body ceased functioning after the heart stopped beating.
Danni somehow found the strength to stand up, and she backed away from the corpse. "You killed him." she said, simply, easily.
"Yes." Zekk couldn't think of anything better to say. What could he tell her anyway? Nothing would make the grim reality more palpable, nothing would soften the blow.
Danni calmed down, and sighed. He walked closer to her, and wrapped his arm around her. "C'mon, let's get out of here." he says to her softly. He doesn't want to stare at the corpse any longer than she did.
A soft explosion was heard from outside, and the lights flickered once more. The building rumbled dozingly, and sirens began to echo in through the walls. And Zekk knew that the sirens weren't about
him
. No, he had an idea of what was transpiring on Bakura.
Somehow, it was known that he was here. No, not only here, but with most of the surviving Jedi in the Order. Someone extremely influential with the Yuuzhan Vong, or the Bakuran government, vainly hoping the Vong would somehow halt their march before Bakura.
Even in the final hours of existence for the galaxy's remaining defenders, some still thought the Vong could be placated. Could be brought to the table. Could be shown
reason
. How to respect the
lives
of the galaxy's original inhabitants. Even though such measures were senseless, some still believed the Vong could be halted without a much larger gun being pointed at their brains. That by turning in the Jedi, the Vong would suddenly, magically,
stop
their conquest and let what remained live.
Zekk had learned multiple times over the years since the start of this war that the Yuuzhan Vong would never be satisfied. Never. Nothing would stop them, except for eradication.
Or perhaps the supposed Zonama Sekot.
In the end, Zonama Sekot's existence was the only thing the galaxy's defenders had left. It was paper-thin, brought into existence by two people who shouldn't really be
alive
, but it was a very real, if slim
chance
. An opportunity to prevent this galaxy's inevitable destiny.
The lights suddenly went out for a few more seconds, the darkness mercifully covering the major's body. The only light was bright, coming through the windows, but the daylight barely illuminated the room enough for simple navigation, much less being able to see clearly.
Even in this half-darkness, Danni's eyes were filled with icy clarity, a purity that not even this sight had robbed her of. She was truly beautiful, Zekk noticed, and intelligent beyond all means. And those eyes, glowing like jewels, were close to tears.
"Please, Zekk. I don't want to be here . . . any longer." Danni implored.
That was when Zekk snapped out of his dream-like state and finally answered. "Right, right. C'mon. If Farina and the others have held out, we'll have a ride outta here." Taking Danni's hand, he ran down the hallway, back the way he came, knowing that finally,
finally
, he will be able to express what he felt to Danni. Once this was over with, anyway.
Blaine Harris was an irate man, Grell Panib knew, but he had never seen such an explosion of pure
emotion
from the man before. Harris was a rampaging bull, storming around the office, yelling at Admiral Ducaris through a comlink. Harris had never liked the veteran admiral, Ducaris was strictly a book-player and far too soft-spoken for Harris. However, Ducaris enjoyed an aura of popularity due to his strategic successes during the second Ssi-ruuk invasion, and so Panib had managed to cajole Harris into accepting Ducaris' presence for the time being.
"You
think
the Yuuzhan Vong are launching a dovin basal on us. I want to
know
. The last thing we need is a kriffing
Sernipidal
with fifteen billion people!" Harris shouted, and he slammed down the comlink, and slumped back in his chair.
His eyes quickly looked up at Panib, and those eyes quickly became daggers, piercing
through
Panib. "Why are
you
here, Panib? Sunshine policy's failed, our ace in the hole couldn't get us the Jedi. So what do you want?" Harris hissed.
Panib forced himself to ignore Harris' insults and remain calm. Nothing good would come out of a fight with the Prime Minister."Nothing, sir, other than battle information." Panib said calmly. He had grown used to Harris' outbursts, although he had never seen one quite like this. Still, it was nothing to panic about. Harris always regained control of his senses sooner or later. Usually it was later, but Panib always held out hope.
Harris grabbed the latest printed reports, all at least ten minutes old, and slammed them on the desk sloppily in three chunks. "Crap, crap, crap, and oh, more obsolete crap." he growled, finding another small bunch of flimsis made right before the battle had begun. "Knock yourself out. Nothing that tells me what's going on up there." he added.
Panib stifled an urge to sigh. Doing that in front of Harris when he was in one of his moods was
never
a good idea. "Is there enough to tell you what's going on with the battle?"
"Yes, there is. We're losing. They just took out a camp ship, and now Admiral Ducaris says the Vong
might
be trying to ram a dovin basal down our throats." Harris said, his lips moving so fast his speech could be defined as chattering.
Not good
. Panib thought. A former military admiral, who had successfully defended from Bakura once before two years ago, he knew the capabilities of Bakura's large force. It was
not
capable of defeating the Yuuzhan Vong invasion force. Too many clusters, too litle coordination. Too many captains and soldiers out for personal revenge to contribute to the battle as a whole. The result was a lot of wasted bravery, and Panib had seen more than enough of it to last a lifetime.
An extremely
long
lifetime. Like… perhaps a millennium.
Harris got up from his desk then. "Panib, we might have to evacuate soon. I've already sent out the coded signal, but it seems the scarheads are
jamming
us with their living monstrosities. I don't know when the evacuation will begin, but when the people find out we're under attack, there'll be a rush to get out of here. I do
not
want to be here when that happens."
"Then why aren't we leaving now?" Panib asked. If things were detoriating so quickly, why couldn't they just leave and get it over with? The Yuuzhan Vong vice was only going to get tighter as time passed. Plus, if someone in Bakura's leadership managed to survive, there would be the added benefit of established leadership keeping the exiles together.
"We simply can't. We have to wait until the last possible moment, Panib. If we want to hold onto our power we have to stay here until things get too much out of hand. Which won't be for too long, thanks to Ducaris' incompetence!" Harris winged a pen across the room at the mention of Ducaris and the pen broke in two against the door.
Panib knew that by 'we' and 'our' Harris meant 'I' and 'my'. Harris would shove Panib out into deep space if it would grant him survival. A born politican, a cynical New Republic proverb said. And it fit Harris like a glove, except for his raw outbursts such as now.
The comlink buzzed again and Panib took the comlink back up. "Yes?" he asked. Then Harris' frown became more severe, if that was possible, and he shouted "Yes! We're starting the evacuation! Find the weakest point in the Vong lines and blow through them so they can get out! And I'm leaving soon as well. Where's the closest coralskippers?"
The reply was clearly unsatisfactory, for Harris screamed "WHAT?!" into the microphone so loudly Panib thought the poor soul making this call was deaf in one ear now.
Harris clarified his reason for screaming a moment later, saying "They can't be entering low orbit already, can they? Just flying around, huh? Shoot 'em down, already, then! Admiral Ducaris, do anything,
anything
, to make sure the line opens up a breakout
anywhere
. Use your fancy-dancy new
Requiem
ship, I've heard it's got some big cannons. Use 'em."
Panib knew enough about this new class of vessel that the
Requiem
was certainly capable of leading a breakout . . . and maybe even defeat the mighty
Sunslayer
. But there was only one of her in the fleet, while the Yuuzhan Vong had plenty of ships just as powerful, if not as expertly led, as the
Sunslayer
.
Ducaris' reply was inadequate, for Harris shouted "I don't care! If
something
does not break through their lines we're all going to die! And I don't think that's what you want to be remembered by whatever's unlucky enough to survive, Admiral! Now break through or I'm relieving you of command this instant!" and Harris slammed down the comlink on the table, breaking it.
Sighing, Harris keyed the grounded comlink and said. his voice worn and exhausted, "Mesel, I need another remote comlink. On the double now. And get me some water too."
He looked at Panib. "If damn Athha had delivered the Jedi by now, maybe we'd have a chance at stopping this."
"I heard that a commander captured two of them." Panib offered. The information was old now, but he hoped this would mollify Harris somewhat.
"Yes, and we lost contact with the commander's garrison right downtown in Capital City. Let me guess who did that . . . hmm, maybe the Jedi?" Harris replied, his voice dripping with sarcasm's stench.
"A few stray shots from the enemy bombardment has landed on the planet, you know. Maybe one of them hit the garrison or a power generator nearby." Panib offered.
"Too freakish. No, because of Commander Jerrevickk's own incompetence, we've lost whatever Jedi he managed to capture." Harris sighed, and looked outside.
"Panib, we're screwed. Up there, we're losing, down here . . . well, if the scarheads are planting a dovin basal on our planet it won't be long before we become Sernipidal number five or six." Harris said.
Mesel, a young, beautiful, yet extremely athletic woman with long raven-colored hair, walked into the room. Despite her secretary appearence, the woman was clearly a graduate of the Bakuran special-forces schools, Panib could tell just by the way she walked. Mesel put the comlink on the table, and Mesel asked sweetly "Please don't break this one, sir. We're running out of replacements."
"I won't. Now return to your duties." Harris said, noticing the bodyguard's sarcasm but choosing not to act upon it. Panib couldn't tell whether Harris was calming down or was too
impatient
to waste time shouting at Mesel.
Mesel strutted away and shut the door behind her, and Harris sighed as he changed the radio signal to the encoded fleet signal. Putting his lips near the mouthpiece, Harris said "Admiral, you better have some decent news for me."
Harris' eyes instantly widened, and he said "What did you just say?" and he dashed to a nearby window, his hands quivering. Panib walked over as well, praying that what he thought Ducaris was saying what was not true.
But it was. Suddenly, dark shapes were appearing in the sky above, and yellow-red trails of magma shot out silently towards the skyscrapers in the distance. Immediately, Panib saw the air-defense fighters launch from the docking bays and charge into the sky, forcing the coralskippers into evasive manuevers. Then the skyscrapers began to explode.
A spire was blasted off one such skyscraper and toppled towards one of the skywalks, breaking upon the fortified duracrete and falling onto the skyway, smashing an unlucky military vehicle. More explosions, some silent, some were quiet roars and booms, were seen and heard as the fires surged. The Bakuran air defenders began to be shot out of the sky, and some coralskippers splintered away, out of control, slamming into other buildings.
Then Panib saw them. Three coralskippers, heading right towards the floor he was standing on. They dove lower than the building, and then began to pull up, and Panib saw eerie, yet luminescently
powerful
red glows begin to appear on the distant coralskippers as they got progressively closer. Harris began to back away fearfully, his legs bumping into his desk, obviously terrified. Panib felt himself begin to move as well, as the coralskippers were about to launch –
And then the three of them ran into so many dazzling green bolts, and they splintered and broke apart under the strain of the fire. The middle one exploded into several burning chunks of yorik coral, the other two spiraling away, out of control . . . and Panib saw nine Aegis fighters suddenly appear in front of them, diving low and then pulling up, re-entering the dogfight in the sky.
Then a massive, furious roar assaulted their ears, then the sound of glass breaking. Then the sounds of a explosion assaulted their ears, and the shockwave assaulted the building, knocking both Harris and Panib down. One of the coralskippers had crashed into the building. Below them, an inferno had just been created, blocking Panib's and Harris' way out to the ground level.
Mesel, flanked by five other bodyguards, who looked more like spec-op drill sergeants than secretaries, then charged into the room, blaster pistol drawn. "Everyone all right?" she called out authoratively.
The five uniformed bodyguards cautiously moved throughout the room, pointing their rifles everywhere, before one of them said "All clear. Both the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister are secure." in the loud monotone of a veteran soldier completely in combat mode.
"Good." Mesel walked forward. Looking at Harris, who was standing up on shaky legs, both of his hands on his desk, she said "Sir, I
highly
recommend we get out of here. The sky's become a massive dogfight, but it's better than leaving when the sky belongs to the scarheads."
Perhaps it was because she had a more reasonable, feminine voice, but Harris surprisingly was calm enough to respond. "Right, right . . . Panib, we're leaving. And start the formal evacuation. If even a billion get away . . ." Harris lost his ability to form words then, and he walked past Panib, who was still sitting on the ground. Panib looked at Harris' dark eyes and saw nothing but a hollow fear in them.
Panib was suddenly lifted to his feet by two of the soldiers, and one of them slammed Panib on the back. "Please come, sir. We're going to get you out of here." one of them said confidently, and took him towards the office door. Panib did not resist. The only time they could leave was now.
"My name doesn't matter. What does is that I can give you the
Archangel."
The voice of the traitor echoed throughout the captain's cabin. Jag clicked it off, and he said "Do I need to play anything else or is this satisfactory?" in a deep, embittered tone. If they asked, he would do so. Anything to free Wynssa. Even if it meant hearing the traitor's silmy voice even more than he wanted to.
Tahiri stared at the disk player with horrified silence, Kyle remained impassive, and Yannik . . . Yannik was absolutely
livid
.
"A
traitor
!" Yannik shouted. "A
traitor
has been flying our Scorchers, commanding our pilots! A traitor in your Order, Kyle!"
"Calm down, Captain." Kyle soothed, his dark eyes glittering with thoughtfulness. "There's no need to panic, yet. We beat back the first attackers when they came, and right now it doesn't look like they brought back-up along."
He was right, but Yannik was anything
but
calm. "Valin went with the Jedi team to Bakura! Who knows how much danger he's put them all in! They could
all
be dead by now."
Tahiri, meanwhile, her athletic, pale arms crossed in front of her like they were armor, whispered softly "I sold her out. I
hurt
her, hurt my friend . . . she's never going to trust me again." Her jade eyes began to water, and she buried her face in her hands as she slumped onto a nearby chair. Jag wanted to comfort Tahiri right now, but he knew there were other matters to take care of.
"We have to get out of here. We need to head to Bakura right now," Jag said aloud, looking from Yannik to Kyle to the squadron commanders to Tahiri. His voice altering itself to its authoritive military monotone, he said "If Yannik's right, the Jedi need to be extracted as soon as possible. We can send the
Raven's Claw
. That should be enough to get them out of there."
Kyle nodded, putting his hand to his bearded chin, ruffling the snow-white hairs. "If it worked for the
Jade Shadow
, it could work for us. A couple of minor modifications to get rid of . . . the more identifying markings, and we can be there extremely quickly. In fact, Captain," Kyle said, turning to Yannik, "Can't we make it there in under a half-hour if we went to lightspeed now?"
Yannik's wrinkled old face stared at Kyle, his oblong eyes thoughtful. "Perhaps we could. We can stop right outside Bakuran airspace at the edge of the system, and send the
Raven's Claw
then. But what can we send for a ground party?"
"I'll go. My husband's down there." Tahiri said immediately, her voice suddenly rock-hard, and by looking into those hardening eyes Jag knew there was no dissuading her. Tahiri was going with, whether everyone liked or not. She unfolded her arms from in front of her, and rose to her feet, and halted her crying.
"I have to, too." Kyle said, his voice almost a mutter, his grizzled voice was so quiet.
"Both of you?" Yannik asked, his eyes revealing his surprise. "Can we really risk the two of you?"
"We don't have much choice." Kyle said. "The
Archangel
has barely enough soldiers just to maintain order here. We can't spare anyone. We might be able to yank one squad away to land with us, but that's it. We need the soldiers we got to keep everyone in line."
"I know." Yannik said, his small form now pacing in a circle around the room. "But I don't know what we can do, because-"
Then suddenly Yannik's comlink buzzed and Yannik took the handheld silver cylinder out of his pocket. "This is Yannik. What is it?" he asked.
Then a tinny voice shouted "We've got news from Bakura! It's under heavy attack by the Yuuzhan Vong fleet! All accounts say the fleet includes the
Sunslayer
!" The name of the feared ship shook everyone to the core. The
Sunslayer
was the ship no one ever wanted to face. The lengthy list of famed ships it had slaughtered over the course of the war was just an addition to its infamous reputation.
Jag heard his voice break raggedly and felt almost ashamed that his fright was turning his voice into a broken teenager's voice. "That means we'll have to fight our way through."
"No, we won't!" Yannik looked at Kyle, his eyes blazing with anger. "Kyle, I am not going to risk you or anyone else on a suicide mission!"
"Call Wedge."
Yannik's eyes widened. "What?"
"Call Wedge and the others. Tell him to assemble a force large enough to break through the weakest section of the Vong lines so we can pick up the Jedi. And clear a path for civilians and remaining military personnel as well." Kyle said, his voice stronger than it had been a moment later. Someday, Jag knew, he would have to be able to conquer fear like Kyle did, if he wanted to survive in either this or his own galaxy.
"We don't even know where Wedge could-"
"He can't be that far out, Captain. And right now I don't see much of a choice. It's either that or let Bakura fall and let everyone die, and I don't think any of us want that on our shoulders." Kyle argued. His eyes were adamant, and Yannik sighed. Kyle was morally right, and if Wedge wasn't too far out, opening up a path for the Bakurans to break out was actually plausable . . . if the
Sunslayer
didn't interfere.
Yannik said "Fine. I'll call Wedge and see what I can do. Squadron leaders, get your pilots to their Scorchers. We're going to lightspeed in a moment." Yannik grabbed the comlink then and relayed his orders.
Finally
, Jag thought.
Jaina, I'm coming. So is everyone else. Just hold on
. No answer. Not like he expected one. Jaina was learning to shut the Force off, and the moment she dialed back even slightly, she lost her method of communicating with Jag. But he knew she was alive. He would feel it if she had died.
Safe
was another matter entirely.
But then Jag remembered something and blocked the doorway, causing everyone to crowd together right in front of him. "What about Wyn? You're just going to-"
"She's not fully sane right now, Jag." Kyle said. "Do you really think she can pilot a Scorcher in her mental condition? I mean, she nearly shot
you
. Can you really trust her by your side or anyone else's, Jag?" he asked kindly, but Jag knew it was anything but a question.
And he inwardly knew Kyle was right. "Yeah."
"Then get out of our way so we can rescue Jaina, Anakin, and everyone else. And have some words with Valin Horn." Kyle said, reminding Jag of who did this to Wyn. Why Wyn was locked up in the medical ward, unable to get out.
There was no way he could win here. Kyle had brought up too many good points, and time was of the essence. Right now, Jag had to be the soldier, not the brother. "Fine. Let's get out of here." Jag muttered and he stepped through the front door, and the crowd instantly began to scatter as each one went to a seperate station.
Except him and Hobbie Klivian. Hobbie walked down the same hallway as Jag, and he looked at Jag. "I see you're down a wingman." he said flatly as they walked down the hallway, as their footsteps raised dust off of the dirty black tiled floor. The ship badly needed cleanliness, but Jag had heard that cleaning materials had become exceptionally hard to come by these days.
"Yeah?" Jag asked, hostility entering his voice.
"You want Inyri or Yakown to fly with you? They're good pilots and I don't need both of them." Hobbie offered. Jag looked at Hobbie's kind, lined face and he found the offer tempting, but he didn't want to do that to Hobbie.
"No. Keep 'em both. I'll live with just one." Jag said.
"That's an order, kid." Hobbie growled. "I outrank you by seniority. I'm not letting you fly without some veteran help. Halo's got a few vets besides me, and your squadron's all rookies and kids. You need a vet to help keep all of your kids in line. Otherwise they're gonna panic or won't listen to you."
Jag sighed and stopped in the hallway, and looked at the slightly shorter Hobbie in the hallway. "Fine. I'll take Inyri. Just leave me alone now, all right?"
"Damn, I was hoping you'd pick Yakown . . ." Hobbie grumbled, but he was smiling. "No more admiring Inyri's figure, I guess." he deadpanned.
Jag allowed a thin veneer of a smile cross his lips. "Go find someone else to fantasize about, will ya? She's my wingmate now. I don't permit grumpy old men to leer after my female pilots."
"So that's what I've become now, eh?" Hobbie's husky laughter greeted Jag a moment later. "You young whippersnappers are never going to learn to expect your elders, will you?"
"Not until we're calling people 'whippersnappers'." Jag said.
"Good point." Hobbie patted Jag on the shoulder, then. "Inyri's a good, veteran pilot. She knows everything the Yuuzhan Vong can do. She's a bit grim and her humor's nearly all graveyard, but she makes a great mentor for all of your pilots. If you and your pilots listen to her enough some of you might actually survive." he said.
"None of us plan on dying." Jag said.
"No one plans on death, kid. Not even the suicidal." Hobbie said, and he walked down the hallway, leaving Jag to ponder this comment as the
Archangel
began to enter hyperspace.

I'm a J/J'er too, but I don't despise Zekk either (unless he's written to be despised
)
Anyway, another wonderful update! You're really upping the tension. I'm glad that Danni and the baby are safe (
for the moment anyway)
I hope that the Archangel is going to be able to get to Bakura in time to save the Jedi team, and hopefully a fair number of civilians.
Really looking forward to the next post!

I just noticed something. It seems really weird that Hobbie and Inyri are on the
Archangel
. I'd think they'd be wherever Wedge is.
I'd forgotten that Wedge was alive...
Nice update. Still following Jag's part with great interest. Not sure why I've kinda grabbed onto that as my favorite POV right now.

Great Post!
Glad that Valins finally been figured out, though i'm afraid of Wyns reaction
actually this post had but one flaw....
Taking Danni's hand, he ran down the hallway, back the way he came, knowing that finally, finally, he will be able to express what he felt to Danni. Once this was over with, anyway
grrr
darn you Zekk, why didn't you get shot. If all goes well then this will never be over and he'll never tell Danni.
Can't wait till next post!

Cool I beat the PM
I saw that. Good job.
Great UP Date
Thank you very much, and thanks for reading.

Yeah, same with me.
I just don't think Zekk's right for Jaina.
Anyway, another wonderful update! You're really upping the tension. I'm glad that Danni and the baby are safe ( for the moment anyway)
Well, they're
almost
in the clear.
There's going to be more threats soon, though. But Zekk has managed to protect Danni for the time being. Now to see if he'll actually tell her his feelings . . .
I hope that the Archangel is going to be able to get to Bakura in time to save the Jedi team, and hopefully a fair number of civilians.
We're going to find out soon. But first we're going to find out what Anakin and company are up to.
Really looking forward to the next post!
Thank you.
I hope you enjoy the next post.
SpiritofEowyn:
Good Post. I'm glad Danni survived, and I liked Jag's part.
Thank you.
I'm happy you liked it, everything worked out for the better this time.
nikjo88:
Yeah!!POST POST!
glad Wyn is cleared...cant wait for the big dogfight soon!
Yes, it's good Wyn is cleared . . . and yes, we've got one heck of a dogfight coming up in a short bit. You'll like it.
jasa:
Yay! Zekk to the rescue!
Yup.
For once he actually came through.
You know, there's a lot of people sporting that Jacen icon . . . that's really cool.
princess_of_naboo:
I just noticed something. It seems really weird that Hobbie and Inyri are on the Archangel. I'd think they'd be wherever Wedge is.
Hobbie and Inyri were transferred from the
Lusankya
to the
Archangel
because of the latter's high pilot casualties. They're basically there to lead and make sure not as many pilots get shot down. Trust me, Jag's gonna be glad they're around for the ride.
I'd forgotten that Wedge was alive...
It happens. First time I mentioned Wedge in this fic.
I almost forgot he existed too, until I realized the outline called for him.
Nice update. Still following Jag's part with great interest. Not sure why I've kinda grabbed onto that as my favorite POV right now.
I'm not sure either.
I really like diving into his POV too. I like to think that I've written him extremely well, though.
And thanks for reading.
Danni_Quee_Solo:
Great Post!
Thank you.
Glad that Valins finally been figured out, though i'm afraid of Wyns reaction
Yeah I'm glad the traitor's been caught . . . though when Wyn finds out . . . um, let's just say that none of us want to be Valin.
actually this post had but one flaw...
.
Oh yeah. That one.
Sorry, I actually kinda like the idea of Zekk and Danni . . . also, it was Draco's instructions. Whether it was me or him that wrote this it would have been the same result.
grrr darn you Zekk, why didn't you get shot. If all goes well then this will never be over and he'll never tell Danni.
Maybe. We'll just see how the Zekk/Danni angle plays out in the future.
Can't wait till next post!
I hope the next one will be good too. First glimpse of Johnarath Ducaris . . . and we return to Anakin Solo, along with a revived Malinza . . . complete with a little battle with voxyn.
Thanks for reading, everyone, including you lovable lurkers.
