Reading the previous installments is highly recommended. Summary: The Bothans have resumed their A'Krai againbst the Yuuzhan Vong, and when the Galactic Alliance condemns this act, they secede, forming the Covenant of Free Worlds along with Kuat, Manaan, and thousands of other worlds. Pressed into service as Alliance commanders, the Jedi must fight to defent the very invaders they struggled against a decade before. Notes: Part three of the ongoing Renewal arc, AU from TUF. Renewal III Season of Pain Chapter one: A'Krai! "Yes, yes, I am well familiar with the Scarheads attempts at reparation, no need to remind me of their half-hearted jobs with teary drivel by their so-called beneficiaries. The Ithorians would not need aid if not for the actions of the Vong. As for their genetic tinkering on the Frozians, I say whoop-de-kriff!" Traest Kre'Fey, supreme commander of Galactic Alliance forces, pounded his podium. "These little so-called acts of redemption are useless, they have burned ten thousand worlds, rebuilding ten will not make it right." "We are well aware of your views on the Yuuzhan Vong, Commander." Predident Garm bel Iblis responded, fire burning in his aged brown eyes. "We called you here to renounce your call for genocide or resign." "So be it, old man." Kre'Fey shot back, "I officially tender my resignation from the Alliance military, since they are too squeamish to see justice done. I now ask all worlds who value righteousness above a false peace to join Bothawui in secession and defeating both the Yuuzhan Vong and the Alliance!" "Kuat will join you in your noble Quest," one senator replied immediately. >Manaan secedes for justice!< The Selkath delegation added. Bel Iblis groaned as the senate became a cacaphony of cries of allegiance to Kre'Fey and rebuttals to the Bothan's claims. This was all too familar to him, echoing another infamous day almost sixty years before. Thumbing the volume on his own microphone to maximum, he attempted to pierce the din. "Order! All of you, calm down and ... " He trailed off as he realized his words would not sink in. With much regret, he signalled security to remove the offending politicians from the Senate. Han stared open-mouthed at the Alliance President, not believing his ears. "You're WHAT?" The aged Corellian shook his head sadly, "I really hate to reactivate your comissiion, General Solo, but we've lost half our flag officers as well as a third of our military. You're the best commander we have left. Will you accept?" "Alright, I'll sign back up, but on my terms." "Which are?" "I'll have the list on your desk in the morning." "Be sure you do." The aged dignitary turned to Luke and Mara, "I would also like to offer every Jedi a command-level post in our army and navy." Luke frowned briefly "Each Jedi is going to have to make up his or her mind, but I have no objections to Jedi serving in the military. As for me personally, I'm going to have to get back to you on that." "Alright." Bel Iblis turned to Tenel Ka, "I assume you wish to command Hapes' forces personally, Your Majesty." "That is a fact. Since we are so near Covenant territory, we will provide you with a forward base within the cluster." Jacen spoke up, "I'd like to volunteer to command Corellia's troops, Mister President." Flying it into a major battle is a good way to get it blown up." "Look here, Princess." Han shot back indignantly, "That ship has saved both our skins more times than I can count." "Yeah, and taken a few too many hits in the process. It's spent more time grounded than not since the end of the Yuuzhan Vong war." She sighed in exhasperation, "Why don't you command from a nice safe Star Defender, or at least a new purpose-built YT-2200 gunship variant. Those are based on the Falcon's specs anyway." "I won't trust just any ship. Just like I won't trust just any blaster. I told Garm to give the DL-86 he was gonna issue me to someone who'd actually use it. I'm keeping Old Smoothie with me." "That's my point - you're going to war using antiques!" Softening, she caressed his rough cheek with the back of her hand, "It's dangerous, and I don't want anything to happen to you, nerf-herder." "I can take care of myself quite well." He clasped her hand in his, "I'm not gonna let anything happen to me." "At least use modern equipment, for my peace of mind, if nothing else." She looked into his eyes, pleading. "Peace of mind? You've been having nightmares again, haven't you?" He sighed inwardly as she nodded. "You know what your brother says about visions, right?" "'Always in motion, the future is'" Luke answered for himself as he walked into the situation room, holding Mara's hand. "What kind of visions are you having, Leia?" "Bad ones: the Falcon being destroyed." Leia frowned, trying to shake the image from her mind. "Do you know anything more?" The Jedi Master asked, shocked. "No, I wake up before I see any more details." Voice trembling, the former chief-of-state embraced both her husband and brother. "I'd like to discuss this at greater length after the briefing." "Okay." President Bel Iblis walked in, activating the screen with the touch of a button, it showed the Galaxy, what was left of the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances in blue, the newly created Covenant of Free Worlds in red. "As you can see, the situation is not good. The Calimari Sector is totally isolated, along with a few other systems; as the Covenant controls most of the Rim and extends coreward as far as Kuat. We are also vulnerable to being cut in two if the Covenant captures Ansion; however they are bottlenecked to just a few systems in the region of Colla IV and Tanaab. If we can capture those systems, we can isolate and conquer the Covenant's industrial worlds. With the Hapes cluster poisitioned at that corridor, it is a logical staging point for an assault on those worlds. "We'll need to simultaneously gather forces at Hapes and fortify Ansion if we are to win this war." Bel Iblis continued "We'll also need as much information as we can get about their plans and their strengths." "I volunteer to gather intelligence" Leia spoke up, "I know my way around the major government buildings on both Bothauwi and Kuat, and Blaez has contacts on her homeworld that could prove useful." "Thank you, Jedi Organa-Solo. We are most grateful for whatever you and your padawan can learn." The President turned to Luke and Mara, "Masters Skywalker, how many Jedi have accepted our offer?" "Most of them; a few pacifists have turned it down, along with one who is conspicuous by her refusal." "Why would I go off to W-A-R"? Jaina spelled the word to protect her young triplets, as if hearing the word would harm them somehow. "I gave that up after ..." her voice trailed off. "I know, but I figured I'd pass the word along anyway." Anakin frowned. "On a differnt note, how are the little ones?" "A handful, especially Charsi. That girl is so impulsive ... I swear she's gonna make me gray before my years." She smiled, "It is wonderful that I can stay home with them, when they aren't wrecking the house, they're wonderful." A little voice piped up beside the dark-haired Jedi, "Uncle Anakin, did you bring me anything?" "Actually, I brought presents for all three of ya. This one's yours, Jerhyn. Oh, and these are yours, Cherith and Charsi" he smiled as he handed out the trinkets. "I'm Cherith, she's Charsi" one of the girls piped up. "Ooops." He muttered as he switched the presents. 	The part with Jaina, Anakin, and the triplets is adorable. I'm with Han. Gotta keep faith in the Falcon. Besides, whenever someone of Skywalker blood has a vision, it's never as mbad as they think it is. Example: Anakin's vision of Padme dying during labor, Jacen's vision of the galaxy turnig over, Luke's vision of Han and Leia in pain, Luke's vision of Mara dead... Great post! 	Great chapter, Zeb. The dialogue was fantastic. And Leia does have a good point about the Falcon. That sucker has taken damage over the years. Oh and I loved that scene with Anakin and the triplets.
