Jaina's not fighting for reasons beyond her children: she's forsaken her role as the Sword of the Jedi. Anakin certainly spoils his nieces and nephew rotten. Besides, whenever someone of Skywalker blood has a vision, it's never as mbad as they think it is. Example: Anakin's vision of Padme dying during labor, Jacen's vision of the galaxy turnig over, Luke's vision of Han and Leia in pain, Luke's vision of Mara dead... Great post! Janet Thanks ... I gotta keep some levity in the fic, since it's not gonna be all sunshine and roses. Even if Skywalker visions aren't always as bad as they seem, they're rarely peachy. 	Disclaimer: See first post. Season of Pain Chapter three: Leaving for battle "When will you be back?" four-year-old Roni Solo asked her father, eyes pleading for her parents to stay. "I wish I knew, kiddo." Han tousled his youngest child's hair, sad inside that war would keep him from the Child-of-age that Leia and him had vowed to raise without the intervention of politics or the aid of nannies, as they had with their first three. "But I will be back as soon as I can. I promise." "Okay, Daddy." She pouted as only a preschooler can, making her father wish even more that he didn't have to go. "Do I really hafta go stay with Jaya? I like staying with Jasa and Ten'Ka better." "Yes, because they're going to be busy too. But Padme, Allana and Arica will be there too. Just think of it as one big slumber party." "They will? Yayyyyy!!" The child could barely contain her excitement over spending time with her favorite playmate. "And if you and Allana give Jerhyn another makeover - or pull any other stunts like that - I will know about it." Han barely contained his laughter at the memory of the time the two girls had covered his only grandson in 'borrowed' make-up and perfume. "Okay, Daddy." Giving his daughter a hug, Han tearfully bid her farewell as Jaina arrived to pick her up. "Once the Twenty Second Fleet assembles, we will only be a shuttle ride apart, my love." Tenel Ka assured her husband, knowing he would miss her the three days he would spend gathering the Corellian forces for the planned Tanaab assault. "I know. I've arrainged it so that we'll only be on seperate ships in battle." Jacen kissed his wife desperately, already feeling the weight of the imminent seperation. "You've arrainged for joint quarters on your command ship?" "Yes, although I set it up so we could just as easily stay on Red Dawn." "I see. Let us decide once we are reunited." She kissed him again, in promise of what would come. "Couldn't agree more," he replied, pulling her closer. "Here's one more to hold you over," he added, pressing his lips to hers with as much passion as he could muster. He reluctantly pulled away, walking her to the ramp of his ship, hand in hand, "I wish I didn't have to leave so soon." "As do I." she managed to reply, "Mahn uhl Fharth bey ihn valle." "And with you as well, my love." he managed, touched at her use of Old Corellian. "Kyp, what are you doing here? Nova Squadron left for the Arkanis front hours ago. Shouldn't you be with them, my love?" Cheriss ke Hanadi hugged the Jedi master, surprised and grateful for his presence. "I turned it over to my X-O last night and asked for a transfer back to the Suns. It was approved this morning." Kissing his fiancee, the Jedi explained, "I couldn't bear to be that far from you when you're flying into battle." "I should have guessed as much. 	Aww. Roni is really cute. I liked that scene with Roni, Han, and Leia even though it's kind of sad. I also love the J/TK scene( Zeb, it is you who made me really love this pairing more than ever). 	Disclaimer: See first post. Season of Pain Chapter four: The shot heard 'round the Galaxy "Myn, I've got a bad feeling about this sensor echo we're investigating. Something tells me the Covenant is up to something." Kirney Slane-Donos confided over the private channel as they rounded a gas giant in the Jabiim system, "We've been waiting for three weeks for them to make the first move, and my gut tells me this is it." "That may be so, and I'm hoping that we're not leading Talon squadron into a trap." Commander Myn Donos took a deep breath, steeling himself. "But if it is, we'll show them what these new W-wings are capable." The sleek fighters Talon squadron piloted simultaneously possessed the best sensors, weapons, shields, engines, and maneuverability of any starfighter in the Galactic Alliance. Their reverse-swept S-foils, cobined with their arrowhead-shaped body gave the craft both their superb atmospheric agility and their name, resembling an exaggerated "W". The veteran pilot switched to the Squadron channel, "Visual range to bogey in 30 seconds. Lock S-foils and raise shields. We're going in hot. Be ready for anything, but do not fire unless fired upon." As a series of acknowledgements came over the comm, Kirney bit off a curse. "It's a trap! There's a Kuati frigate and two squadrons of StarVipers waiting for us." Damn! thought Myn. He surveyed his opponents, recognizing an opportunity. As the enemy fighters opened up at extreme range, he gave his orders. Kirney, you're with me; everyone else break by wing pairs and engage at will. Let's dust that frigate." Easily dodging the turbolaser bursts fired from the dagger-shaped warship's forward guns, the pair flew up to the exposed conning tower. Arming a triple-burst of proton torpedoes, Kirney remarked "When is KDY going to learn that their bridges are too vulnerable?" "Probably never." Myn replied as he armed his burst, "Fire!" Streaks of orange erupted from the silver and red fighters, striking the bridge, blowing through particle shields, metal, and the crew inside. As the duo escaped, they watch the hulk fall into the blue gas-giant, rocked by secondary explosions and launching escape pods. Turning to aid their squadmates in the dogfight, they noticed that all the Starvipers had been dealt with. "Good job, everyone. Any damage?" Relieved to see that none of his pilots were dealing with anything serious, he gave the order to head home. Two enemy squadrons plus a frigate destroyed without a single loss was something to be proud of. Jacen paced the bridge of the Strident-class Star Defender Valiant, unsure what to make of the news he had just recieved. He was glad that Talon Squadron had defeated the ambushers and avoided taking casualties in the process, and frankly was releved the waiting was over; but having to go to war again chilled him to the core. Ben noticed the look on his face and, recognizing it for what it was, expressed his views on the subject. "We kicked their tail in the first skirmish, we can kick them to the rim!" "Be mindful of your feelings, my young apprentice," the elder Jedi rebuked gently, "You are sowing seeds that may cause the Dark Side to take root within you. Be careful that your aggression does not consume you." "Oh, lighten up. You're too stuffy, always concerned about motives and the purity of hearts. You haven't even smiled once in the last month. I'm looking forward to crispy-frying a few goons." My cousin turns twelve and turns into a bloodthirsty maniac. Jacen mused darkly, "Your aggression will get you into trouble sooner or later, my young padawan. Everyone from your parents to Anakin to Zoe have warned you time and again. You must let the Force be your guide ... " "Yeah, well Force this!" Ben replied flippantly, flinging an obscene gesture towards the source of his annoyance. "Get. Off. The. Bridge. Now!" Jacen responded, his voice quietly menacing. "If you're going to act like that, you can do so in your quarters, young man."
