As he averted his eyes, she smiled a warm smile and chuckled lightly. “Thank you. It’s nice to know a girl’s still got it what it takes.” Their eyes met, green against brown, intertwined, fixed, intense. It was all he could do not to take her cheek in his hands and kiss her then and there.

I love the banter and flirting in that section. Can't wait to see how they interact in the next post.

“Oh, stow it. If you hate the idea, then why are you smiling?”

Her grin was his only reply.

“That’s what I thought. Now go sleep.”
Great banter in this section. I loved the flirting between the two of them. love

“Goodnight, Admiral.”

“Goodnight, Goddess.”
Awww, that is so romantic. Even after all those years...*sigh* Perfect.

Dinner? I can't wait. Beautifully written, TT, and thanks for the PM. hugs

“Let’s change the subject.”

It was Jag’s turn to smile. “I didn’t know we were talking.”

Her features softened. “Did we ever need words?” It was more statement than question.

Jag gently reached out to slip a stray hair back into place behind her ear. His finger brushed her cheek, sending a jolt of electricity throughout his body. “I suppose not.”

love the flirting! They never did need words, but I can't help but feel warm inside watching how in love they still are. Its a beautiful thought, though bittersweet knowing they should have lived their entire lives together.

Can't wait for tuesday. I hope for Jag's sake Cherith's still up. applause

Wow. Far-Future Romance indeed.

This is different but a good different. I'm not sure I've read anyone else jump this far into the future with these two. I like how there's a definite wisdom and age with them, but that there's still traces of who we've known them to be. That first post especially drew me in.

Believable set up.... well-written... I definitely look forward to future posts.

Nice job, TelannaTani.

Beautiful, beautiful! love

I love that they're acting like teenagers. This is a beautiful story, Voz. Cherith's character is as strong as her father's and Jaina's. It is so touching that Jag stayed in touch with Kyp, as well.

Your writing has a lovely emotional sense to it. I'm looking forward to more!

One of my favorite peoples
Right back at yah! hugs

Voz,
I adored the emotion you poured into Kyp's funeral and Jaina's loss of her best friend, their relationship was so powerful, even more so because they never were "together", just a natural deepening of the partnership they set on a rooftop all those years before.

And what fun that after thirty years and a lifetime apart the youthful anticipation of a "new" love and another chance at a relationship still excites them. I can't wait to see how their life experiences shape their reunion.

Wonderful update! And maybe even more Cherith - wooo-hooo! It is so sweet that he needs her romantic advice.

Replies!
First, thank you all for reading. I am so humbled to know that you are not only enjoying the story, but care enough to come back. grin Thank you all for your kind comments and responses. And for those of you reading and not responding (*winks at Yobi*) I appreciate you too! Thank you all for your support! You definitely inspire me to continue writing. I still can’t believe there are so many readers on this story. You guys are awesome. Thanks! hugs

ccp: Ah to be young and in love. More or less any way.

laugh No doubt! Thanks for reading, Cowboy! cowboy

Jedi-Jade: I’m glad you’re enjoying it, J-J! I’ll try not to disappoint.

verybusy: *Big smile* I knew it would get even better. wink

Thanks, VB! I just tried to imagine how I’d react if I’d been separated from the love of my life for 30+ years. I can’t imagine myself – or anyone else for that matter – NOT being kiddy like a kid! Glad you like it!

Lyne: Oh they’ll interact all right. You just wait… Thanks for reading!

G_Anakin: Thanks, G! grin

JainaJag14: Awww, that is so romantic. Even after all those years...*sigh* Perfect. Dinner? I can't wait. Beautifully written, TT, and thanks for the PM.

Wow – perfect? blush Thanks, JJ14! I’m so glad you’re enjoying it. Dinner has a lot of potential, doesn’t it. Hopefully you’ll like it! And no probs on the PM. hugs

padawanlost: Hi, dear!

They never did need words, but I can't help but feel warm inside watching how in love they still are. Its a beautiful thought, though bittersweet knowing they should have lived their entire lives together.

I know exactly what you’re talking about! That’s what I meant when I said this isn’t the ideal way I’d like to see them back together. I’d much rather it was sooner over later – like your fic! Thanks for your comments! hugs

Solo_and_Fel: I like how there's a definite wisdom and age with them, but that there's still traces of who we've known them to be. That first post especially drew me in.

Thank you Solo_and_Fel! YES! I’m so excited to hear you say that! That’s exactly what I was trying to portray, so it’s great to know I achieved it. Thanks so much! grin

oldjedinurse: Great to see you, Oldj! As much as I love and respect your writing, your comments are absolutely thrilling! Thank you so much! hugs I hope not to disappoint.

Chimpo_the_Sith: Hey, Chimpo! I’m so glad you’re enjoying it. Thanks for reading!

jaynasolofel: Hi! grin I’m so glad you like that scene. The funeral pyre was one of my favorites, so I’m glad you (and everyone else) appreciated it too! This is the ideal relationship I see between Jaina and Kyp – like the one on the rooftop, and what we’ve seen in TKL’s Force Evolution stories – a great partnership built on unconditional love. To me, it’s the sweetest type of friendship.

I can't wait to see how their life experiences shape their reunion… It is so sweet that he needs her romantic advice.

Well, who’s gonna pick out the flowers?! And yes, it will definitely be interesting how this all plays out. Thanks for reading, dear! hugs

Master_Vicky: Hi, Vicster!! Gosh, you started a second page. I can’t believe I have a second page! dancing I’m so glad I have something for you to read – and you like it! It’s not a very long story, but we’re not done yet. Thanks for reading!

The next post is already to my lovely Beta-lady. Baring any major revisions, look for more tomorrow! love

Jaina’s mind was a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions. She tried to rein them, but found peace – and her peace in her meditations illusive. The last twenty-four hours had been the most dramatic emotional cruise she’d been on since… Jacen’s fall, she realized. The mere memory left her reeling. Once she would have shoved those feelings down, bottling them in a box more durable than the Sun Crusher and leaving them to rot – or explode. But long years had taught her much. She gathered the feelings and released them back into the Force. No, in the past twenty-four hours, she let go of her best friend and once again enjoyed the company of the man she had passionately loved but been parted from for nearly half her life. How she had gone from the deepest low to the highest high she was unsure, but there it was.

No matter the time, the distance, the struggle, or the pain, the fact remained: she still loved Jag Fel. She said she always would, but was somewhat surprised to find that after over thirty years it was still true. In fact, it was stronger, deeper, and more passionate than before. She could almost hear her mother’s voice whisper in her ear, “Absence makes the heart grow fonder.” Once she would have laughed. Now, she only smiled.

Mentally, she checked the time. Thankful for her few minutes of meditation prior to this evening’s dinner, she rose somewhat refreshed and renewed. For the first time in what felt like years, life was good. Silently wishing her mother was still alive, she hurried to her closet, hoping to find something worthy of the evening.

An hour later, Jaina Solo entered the lobby of Horizons, Ossus’ finest hotel and restaurant. Known for its fine cuisine, it was often the lodging place for dignitaries and their staff while conducting business with the Jedi. Jaina quickly reviewed the room number left at her own abode before heading to the nearest turbolift. The room she was invited to was on the top floor, overlooking the Randian Sea. Only the best for Admiral Jagged Fel, she mused as the turbolift doors opened. The lift soared to fiftieth floor quickly, leaving Jaina with little time to settle herself in the Force – something she needed desperately. She took a deep breath as the lift came to a smooth stop, and stepped out with a step full of confidence she did not feel. A young blue-skinned Twi’lek, dressed in a bleached white waiter’s coat, stood in her path taking her off guard.

“Ma’am.” With a bow of respect, he offered her his arm. “This way.” She took it and joined his steady gait down the hall, unable to keep her smile in check. From the turbolift area, an open rotunda stood before them. The Twi’lek moved her towards a wide hall on one side of the reception area. If Jaina remembered correctly, there were only two rooms on this entire floor – a major expense. Curious, Jaina reached out with her Jedi senses, eager to read the situation and feel Jag’s presence once more. She was not disappointed, feeling his nervous excitement washed over her like the heat of a blazing fire. Her smiled widened a bit further.

“Here we are,” the young man announced as the hall ended in a rounded entry. He pressed the announcement chime next to door and stood at the ready. The slotted door irised open quietly, revealing Jag dressed in pressed black slacks and a crisp, white long sleeve shirt, the sleeves rolled half way up his arms in casual cuffs. Jaina watched his eyes roam her body, drinking her in with eager anticipation. She was pleased by his reaction, judging that her deep maroon hued dress had the desired effect. Her mother had told her once that for informal occasions, a dress should fit a precise formula: long enough to cover the important parts, but short enough to capture the imagination. She’d taken the thought to heart.

“Wow, Jaina. You look…” He stumbled on his own thoughts. “…fabulous.”

“Why, thank you, kind sir!” Trying to maintain the dignity befitting her sixty years, she bowed deeply at the waist. Belatedly, she remembered that she was no longer in her Jedi robes. She felt her cheeks redden as she realized that she had rewarded his eyes by the gesture. Her blushed deepened as she noticed his emotions spike. She could feel him attempted to rein them back under his control. She called on the Force once more to regain her composure. “May I come in?”

“Of course! Sorry.” As Jaina moved to enter the suite, she turned to thank her guide, only then realizing that the young alien had already made his exit. She resolved to thank him later before stepping into the suite’s entry way. She quickly observed the room as she entered, noting the simple elegance in both design and décor, with sparse but well-picked furniture accenting the space. On the other side of the room, transparisteel windows stood tall and proud, showcasing the stunning view below – miles of ocean as far as the eye could see. The setting sun touched the horizon in the distance in a brilliant display. Light translucent curtains wafted in the salty breeze around another circular door opening to a spacious terrace. There, a small table sat, complete with two place-settings and a beautiful Ossan lily arrangement. Jaina smiled at Jag, who had obviously been busy.

Yes, this will be a night to remember, she thought blissfully.

~*~

Jag watched Jaina taking in her surroundings as they entered his rented suite until she returned her gaze to Jag. “The view certainly is stunning from here, isn’t it?”

“Yes. I must say I was surprised at the beauty of this planet. For some reason I assumed that all Jedi strongholds were either swamps or jungles, not this temperate paradise.” He smiled at her, hoping the topic would distract his dazzled senses. He could not remember her ever looking so beautiful. It was clear to him that time had been kind. Feeling his temperature rise again, he clamped down on it with a steely resolved forged after years of practice. “Will you join me for dinner, Jaina?”

“Dinner? I thought I came here for a briefing.” Her eyes sparkled as she smiled at her humor. Her wit is as sharp as ever, Jag mused. Returning the smile, he offered his arm to her and escorted her to the veranda. The light breeze tickled the white lily he’d picked to dress the table. Ben had said it was her favorite. Disengaging, he pulled her chair out from the table, and helped her into it. As she settled in, the wait staff he hired came out and began to serve the meal. Jag settled into his own chair across from her, admiring the way the breeze moved through the gray-speckled curls framing her face. Obviously he was not the only one who had come prepared.

“So, what now?” Turning from the view, Jaina jumped right in, the old familiarity once again claiming them both.

“Dinner, of course,” Jag replied, knowing full well the true meaning of her statement. He smiled as she sent the classic Solo half-grin his direction. The smile faded as a serious air claimed the table. “Well, I don’t know that we can discuss the future without reviewing the past.”

“We did that this morning, Jag.”

Jag paused, realizing this would not come easy to either of them. “That’s not what I mean, Jaina.”

They had spent the morning hiking the nearby hills up to Nenew Meadows, a breathtaking lake fed by ten streams all cascading into the deep mountain lake. After arriving, they spent the morning walking through the surrounding areas, simply enjoying each other’s company. The morning started with awkward silences and small talk, slowly turning to comfortable conversation. They had caught up on much of the past thirty years, surreptitiously avoiding the one topic they both wished to breach. But now it was time to confront it head on, as they usually did.

Jaina took another moment, this time to take another sip of the Dantooine wine that had, at some point, made its way into her glass. “I know.” He watched as she lightly swirled the red liquid around inside the crystal goblet, taking a moment to smell its light fragrance before taking yet another sip. “This is excellent wine, Jag.”

“The best.” Jag took a deep breath. “I know this is tough Jaina, but you’ve never been one to avoid a subject… until now.”

She put her glass back on the table and gathered herself up, obviously consulting the Force for strength. Jag wondered at how he could still read her so well after all the years apart.

“It’s been a long time, Jag. I wasn’t ready and you let me push you away. I didn’t reach out and you didn’t follow me. You moved on and I let you go.” The words tore his heart, knowing the truth of each one. This time they both reached for the wine. “Let’s just leave it at that, shall we?”

He considered the idea, and quickly decided that she was right, as usual. He told her as much. She smiled at that. “It’s about time you figured that out.” From then on, the conversation was consumed by the meal: seared nerf stake, whipped tato root and rich local vegetables. Jag was impressed with the meal, glad he spared no expense for it.

Finally the silverware was clinking against empty plates, both dinner and desert finished. Jaina delicately dabbed her mouth with her cloth. Jag was still amazed how such an amazing pilot and skilled warrior could still manage such an air of femininity and poise. Choosing that moment, Jag rose from his chair, finally allowing the bounce in his step. Approaching her side of the table, he offered her his hand.

“Might I offer some evasive maneuvers, milady?”

Jaina actually giggled as she took his hand, allowing him to lead her into the suite. By now the sun had set and the warm breeze had turned cool. As they entered the living space, Jag pressed a button near the audiostation, triggering a soft song popular on Coruscant. As the lyrics floated across the air, Jag’s heart warmed as Jaina quietly began to hum along. It was his subtle tribute to their relationship, and he glad to know that she understood.

My yesterdays are all boxed up and neatly put away
But every now and then you come to mind
Cause you were always waiting to be picked to play the game
But when your name was called, you found a place to hide
When you knew that I was always on your side

Well everything was easy then, so sweet and innocent
But my demons and my angels reappeared
Leavin' all the traces of the one you thought I'd be
Too afraid to hear the words I'd always feared
Leavin' you with only questions all these years

But is there someplace far away, someplace where all is clear
Easy to start over with the ones you hold so dear
Or are you left to wonder, all alone, eternally
This isn't how it's really meant to be
No it isn't how it's really meant to be

Well they say that love is in the air, never is it clear
How to pull it close and make it stay
If butterflies are free to fly, why do they fly away
Leavin' me to carry on and wonder why
Was it you that kept me wondering through this life
When you know that I was always on your side

It was intoxicating, the closeness, the touch and the music – far more so than the wine they had consumed earlier. Their bodies pressed together in a proximity long passed, but never forgotten. As the song ended, she stepped back, brown eyes meeting green, both lost in the past, the song and the possibilities. Acquiescing to his dreams, Jag’s hand came to her face, softly caressing her soft skin and claiming the lone tear slipping down her cheek.

“Don’t cry, Goddess. Do not weep for a past loss. Instead, let us look to the future.” His face neared hers, tentatively feathering her lips with his own at first, unsure of how to proceed or how she would respond. When she didn’t back away, his lips reinforced their first exploratory touch, this time filled with a bit more confidence. Before he realized, she was in his arms; her tiny body lifted so that their heads were level, each kiss exploring more, demanding more, than the previous. Every reservation he had evaporated in her kiss; passion was all that remained. Time suspended as they moved towards the bedroom compartment, reclaiming a past lost to them and stepping toward a hope for the future.
