Finally….Replies!:

Solo_and_fel: Snag!

Woah! I’ve never had anyone snag a post, before! *bwush*

My first thought was "Wow. Ben's old." But of course he would be... everyone else is. It's still a new concept for me to think of these characters as this age, but you're writing it so well that I just have to remind myself every once in awhile.

Yeah, I know. I have that feeling all the time…glad to know I’m pulling it off! grin

Ha! Score one for Ben! – If only we knew the total score, I bet Ben would be ahead…

That's definitely Jaina. – Even as we age, we can’t escape who we truly are…

Jag's still so darn noble. – Yup – same with Jag.

This really echoed something of Jag and Jaina's first kiss in the NJO. Was it intentional? Either way, very good. – Wouldn’t you like to know. tongue

Thanks for your great reply. Ben is definitely a bit sneaky (I think he gets it from Mara) – we’ll just have to see how it plays out! Thanks again! hugs

JainaJag14: Ouch, that gotta hurt. Jaina, Jaina, Jaina. That's not the way to live happily ever after.

You’d think she’d learn…

But what is Ben up to? Great update, and thanks for the PM.

Welcome! You’ll find out in just a few…

ccp: So some one pulled strings to purchase land right next to the Jedi.
Bold move.
I like it.

I thought you would. cool

oldjedinurse: This ought to be good...

I'm definitely looking forward to more of this!

Yeah, it’s gonna be good. Glad you’re liking it! hugs

Lyne: Love speculating where you're going with the story. Can't wait till next post.

Glad you’re enjoying the ride! There’s more in a few.

G_Anakin: Thanks for coming back!

Master_Vicky: I betcha I know who it is. Oh DO you???

So you finally got to the angst I've been expecting. I knew it would happen! And it tugged at my heart strings. But if my theories are correct, all will be fine!

Well, I’m glad you liked the tension. You’re right – it was bound to show up sometime. As for your theories, you ARE an optimistic one, aren’t you?! grin

Chimpo_the_Sith Why do I have a feeling that certain Fel is the owner of the land near Jedi Academy

I don’t know. Why DO you have that feeling? wink

And I love how you showed Jaina's emotions in this post. Superb job.

Why, thank you kind sir! It was definitely my favorite bit of banter thus far.

Ben sounds more like Han when it comes to his daughter then Luke. He must have spend to much time near his uncle

Very possible – he did sort of idolize him, didn’t he. Besides, what father isn’t over-protective of their only daughter. happy

I love this story I’m so glad! hugs

verybusy: I really like the interaction between Jaina and Ben, and of course the way he is able to challenge her.

While it’s fairly vague here, in this story line, Ben learned under Jaina after Jacen’s fall and/or destruction. I see them having a really strong relationship – especially in this part of their lives. Somewhere along the way, the parents all died, leaving only Ben and Jaina from the Skywalker group. I was actually really sad at this possibility, because it would mean the the Solo gene pool would live on in Allana (assuming she survives Legacy), but the Solo name would go down in history with no heir to pass it on. No sure how I feel about that…

I cannot wait to read how this is going on. I hope you’ve been able to stand the suspence. grin

padawanlost: A year!

I know – a lot can happen in a year.

I love the way you've worked Ben into the story. He's a good friend for her. Dare I say, Jacen-like, without all the crazy. I'm glad someone else thinks they'd be good friends.

I agree. Like I was saying to verybusy, when you’re all the family each other has left, plus you’ve got familial and master/apprentice ties, I see them being very close. But I don’t think anyone could replace her twin… cry

Oh, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who does that. So much like her father there- fabulous.

Thank you! I wanted a mix of Han and Mara – two people of influence who don’t get a lot of credit for the influence they’ve play in her life.

I knew Jag wasn't giving up. I can't wait for her to storm out there into the biggest surprise of her life. It's a good thing Jag enlisted Ben's help.

Hm… a very good theory…

Wonderful update. I don't want this to be over, but I can't wait for them to get together-finally! What conflict you've created for me

Yes! Angsty conflict. My work here is done! Well, not quite… Thanks padawanlost! hugs

Jade51999: Ah my wonderful beta... Hi, Jade!! hugs You made it!

See I thought I had replied here a while ago..but then realized I was in Pittsburgh having computer trouble..so it never went through...

Needless to say, shame on me!

No shame needed. I hate it when our computers fail us…

Telanna'Tani this is great! What a unique concept--and one that is tres tough to do--I mean its gotta be hard to think of Jag and Jaina as the same people we know but also very different, having gone through thier lives away from one another... [i/]

It’s been quite the experience. I’m not sure I have it quite down yet, but everyone here seems to be enjoying, so I must be doing something right.

[i]I loved seeing Ben--even twenty years younger I can't imagine him at forty. And this mysterious house...I wonder who the occupant is....

Wouldn’t you like to know… mischief

Hopefully the older, wiser Jaina can realize her temper gets the best of her every time...

Yes, let’s hope. Thanks for stopping by! I’m glad you’re enjoying it! love

Shinar: Ooooooo, tricks and drama!

You better believe it! Thanks for stopping by! Here’s hoping you can still read it through your… minor vacation from the JCC. grin Much love! hugs

Jaynasolofel: Hmmmm is that Ben Skywalker doing a little meddling in matters of the heart? And tsk-tsk Jaina, did she not learn that she can only push him away just so many times? Well it appears that after 30 years Jag is not taking it anymore.

I definitely think Ben got the sneakies from his mother. But then, Luke has definitely had some sneaky moments too… I think you’re right about Jag. I’d love to say more, but would give away the next post… shhh

Again the texture and detail (I now picture that Ithorian food comes in small, square, white cartons with metal handles) really liven this piece, giving it a true SW feel. I like the "two Jainas" idea too and that Ben understands the merged Jaina would be even better. Wonderful work.

Thanks! I wanted something with a take out feel. In reality, Ithorian probably wouldn’t be in small boxes like that – have you SEEN the ithorians? How would they eat it? Hadn’t thought about that… As for the rest, I’m glad you like the “two jainas” concept. In another fic I have in the works, Jaina does a bit of undercover work and falls into her alternative personality a lot. Now THAT is a hoot. grin

This update really lifted my mood after a yukky week of DRL... in a word HOPE; Jaina may have screwed it up again but there is always tomorrow morning!

hugs Well, I’m so glad. As you can see, this week has been my yucky week, so I hear your pain, my dear. Here’s hoping this one is better! Thanks for your continued support!

Madame_Solo: Eek! Sorry I haven't commented in awhile.

No probs, lady! I’m just glad you stopped by! batting

In the first post I really liked the logic in why Jaina and Jag should take it slow. And how they both knew it, it was just a beautiful conversation.

Thanks. It certainly felt like the right thing to do – very natural.

In the last post, speaking of conversations, I LOVED Jaina's talk with Ben. And the argument she and Jag had sounded very realistic, I could totally see Jaina letting something stupid like that slip, and Jag bringing up stinging memories of the past.

Yes – no matter how they’ve moved on, the past is still the past. And it’s difficult to talk about, even now.

And now I wonder what Ben's up to... Because the person is from Corellia, I have to wonder if its Jag, but that seems unlikely.

All shall be revealed in time. Thanks for reading, Flygirl! hugs

Thanks all! Story to be posted promptly! love

A small nadok scurried up the tree and darted into an old hole half way up. The startled creature peaked out over its bushy tail, chastising her with a loud chattering noise. Jaina laughed quietly to herself as she resumed her quest. She took a deep breath and opened herself to the Force, drinking in the sweet energy like a cool, clear mountain stream. It cleansed and renewed her mind, body and soul; she was at peace.

Nenew Meadow was nestled deep inside the coastal mountain range that skirted the Randian Sea. There were no roads or designated airlanes; a speeder and detailed map were needed to make the journey. She had planned on flying to the meadow first thing in the morning to investigate, but something Tevel had said the night before had stuck with her. Dinner at the Skywalker residence was warm and wonderful, reminding Jaina of happier times. But the feeling did not last. Eventually Jag had reentered the conversation and Jaina’s spirits had plummeted accordingly. Later, Tevel suggested that contemplation might help her resolve the conflicting feelings. Jaina was inclined to agree.

So when Jaina arrived at the base of the towering mountains below Nenew Meadow, she took the advice to heart and decided to hike. She was thankful she had decided to wear a pair of durable brown pants and a form-fitting, lavender top, rather than her cumbersome Jedi robes. Now, after winding her way nearly to the top of the draw, she felt more at peace than she had in months. Perhaps there is still hope, she mused silently.

Soon the trees parted before her and the meadow made its debut. A smile bubbled to the surface of her aging features as she recalled her last visit to the meadow. A warm breeze, crisp and clean after the evening’s storm, spread across the meadow rustling the waist-high grasses around her. The distant sound of the steady falling water brought more memories of herself and Jag. The term bittersweet has never been more real to me, Jaina thought idly. This time she didn’t cringe, but took a deep breath as she accepted the memories and the peace they offered. Yes, the walk had indeed done her good.

The meadow held as much life as the forest surrounding it. She watched as a forest bird glided in the breezes. The mountains around her stood as stoic sentinels protecting the lakeside sanctuary; their tops disappeared into the clouds. Turning a bit to her left, she saw her destination about a kilometer off, snuggled against the tree-covered slope. A small waterfall cascaded down the mountainside not far from the home. She moved that direction, impressed by the size and scope of the estate after only six months of construction. The house itself was of moderate size and organic looking; she could tell the walls were made from rock, and the roof from small wooden slats. She could tell work there had finished some time ago. A crisp, green lawn extended out from the house and transitioned into the tall grasses. Jaina could discern a figure weaving in and out of the trees that had been incorporated into the yard. She delved into the Force once more, taking in the situation completely. She sensed no danger - just peace. The being in the yard was a woman. She was chasing a small child through the grass. Not exactly what I expected, Jaina mused.

A smaller house could be seen to the left of the main home. This structure was still under construction and, as Jaina neared, she could see two men on the roof working feverishly in the midday sun. Below, a blue-skinned Twi’lek was handing wood slats to two human men on the roof, who then placed the slat and hammered it in place. They were all bare-chested, their skin glistening from exertion. After spending the past month on Coruscant, it was hard for Jaina to believe that beings still constructed things at this slow, painstaking pace. Yet in these surroundings, it seemed perfect. Jaina assumed that the Twi’lek was the estate manager Ben had mentioned, so she headed that direction.

“Good day!” she called across the field as the distance closed. Both men turned quickly at the sound of her voice, but it was the blue-skinned Twi’lek that spoke first.

“Good day, Madame.” Glancing at one of the men on the roof, he put the slat in his hand down on the pile and moved toward her. His blue head tails hung down his back and swayed slightly as he approached. “Ah! Master Solo! It is good to see you again.”

Jaina searched her memory for the young being for a moment before realizing the connection. “You must be Devan. Wait, I remember you – from Horizons! I never had the opportunity to thank you for your services that night. You slipped off so quietly,” she added with a smile.

“With all due respect, Madame, you were quite distracted.” He said with a toothy grin.

She returned the smile. “I supposed you’re right.” By now, the young men had come down from the roof and were approaching her. Devan turned to introduce them.

“Master Solo, this is the owner of the estate and my employer: Gavin Fel. And this is his brother-in-matrimony, Jak Terron.”

Jaina froze at his name as she unabashedly stared at the man on the left. His hair was dark and his eyes… She forced her own eyes closed and opened up to the Force once more. Suddenly everything became clear: the meadow, the home, even the landscaping. All of it spoke of his gentle touch and loving care. He was all around her – in everything.

Oh, Jag. You really went above and beyond this time, didn’t you?

She recovered and bowed deeply as the men mirrored her motion. “Gavin. Jak. It’s an honor to finally meet you. I must say I’m impressed by your progress here.”

“Yes,” It was Jak that replied as he surveyed the handiwork. “It’s taken a while, but it’s starting to feel like a bit more like home.” He smiled. Gavin, on the other hand, was silent, only a small scowl on his face. So like his father, only… bitter.

Movement to her right caused her to turn. Two human women, one very pregnant and one guiding a child by the hand, headed their direction. The mother-to-be had a dark complexion with raven colored hair and was completely foreign to her. The other…

“Fel.” Suddenly ten years disappeared and Jaina once again stood on the deck of a massive Chiss Defender-class starship, shaking hands with a beautiful and deadly blonde human woman amongst the Chiss ranks. As before, she could feel her shock as it threatened to take her to the ground. This time Kyp was not beside her, but she was far more prepared. Both of them?

“Cherith Fel... or should I say Cherith Terron?” Back in the present, Jaina made the connection between husband and wife before moving forward to embrace the woman – a move slightly out of character for the Jedi master. “It’s nice to see you again. I must say, this is a surprise.”

She could feel Cherith smile as she returned the tightened the hug. “I would say that it is for me as well,” she said as they separated, “but it would be a lie. I’ve been trying to orchestrate this for some time.” She turned to introduce the woman next to her. “This is Meri, Gavin’s wife.”

Jaina greeted Meri cordially, trying not to focus on the previous cryptic statement. Instead, she turned her attention to the little girl holding Cherith’s hand. “And who is this beautiful lady?”

“This is Cala.” Cherith beamed with pride. She leaned down next to her daughter and took her hand. “Cala, this is Jedi Master Solo. Do you remember Grampie Fel talking about Master Solo?” The angelic face, complete with finger in mouth and encased in blonde curls, nodded her head as Cherith continued the introduction. “Can you give Master Solo a hug?” The little one let go of her mother’s hand and moved towards Jaina, who had also hunched down to meet her. Cala moved towards her with little hesitation, seemingly comfortable with the idea. Fighting tears, Jaina scooped her up and stood with shaking arms. Cala pulled back from the hug to look Jaina deep in the eyes. She smiled at her with a smile both genuine and warm. She was too young to speak, but her acceptance and love shown brightly in the Force.

In that moment, Jaina knew her heart was captured completely. She could only stare in awe of the little life she held. Cala had her mother’s hair and her father’s chin. But the eyes – the eyes were Jag’s. Tears welled up in her eyes and began to flow down her cheek despite the smile on her face. They stood staring at each other for a moment; Jaina poured love and peace towards Cala in the Force. To her amazement, Cala pushed back. Jaina’s head jerked to look at Jak and Cherith, now standing side by side a few steps away. Jak looked back at Jaina as he scratched his head like something had been forgotten. Jaina simply smiled. Force-sensitive. Amazing. But now it not the time for such news. Not yet. Turning back to Cala, Jaina began to tickle her. Cala immediately began giggling with glee and soon the group couldn’t help but join in the joyous laughter. Even Gavin was unable to maintain his grim mask. Finally, Cala was back on the ground and wobbling back towards her father. Cherith smiled as Jak picked Cala up before looking back to Jaina. “It seems you’ve made a quick friend, Master Solo.”

“Please, call me Jaina.” She was silently amazed that she felt at so at ease with this group. “And it is Cala who is to blame for our quick bond. I’ve never seen a child so accepting of a stranger.” She brushed the child once more with the Force and watched as she looked up at Jaina with another smile.

Cherith laughed. “Well, I would hardly call you a stranger. Since she was born, Cala has had two heroine in her Grampie’s stories: Grandma Cala the Wise and Master Solo the Brave.” At the mention of her story-time friends, Cala began to clap her hands, drawing more laughter from the group.

“Speaking of, where is your father?” The bantha in the room disclosed, she noticed Gavin shift uncomfortably out of the corner of her eye. She pressed on when no one responded. “Come on, there can be no other explanation for you being on Ossus. He’s here somewhere. After all the work you’ve put into this place, I… I’d just really like to talk to him.”

Jaina watched as Gavin’s frustration boiled over. “Why? Come to destroy his hope again? Break his heart? Poor little Force-blind man – how easy to manipulate! ”

“Gavin!” Jaina realized that both Meri and Cherith had spoken together; Meri stepped away from her husband’s side with a barely contained shock. Cherith’s glare could have melted all the ice on Csilla.

“What? That’s all she’s ever done to him: manipulated him, led him along, and broken his heart.” Jaina nearly winced as his emotions glared through the Force with sharp intensity. She stood her ground, and met his pointed gaze and question. “Why would now be any different?”

As all eyes turned toward her, Jaina realized this was the one question, deep down, they all wanted – needed – answered. Yesterday, she would have undoubtedly flown at them with a storm of righteous indignation, but today was different. Today she was ready and willing to answer for her past mistakes. She took a deep breath and centered herself in the Force before answering. “First, I respect your father more than any other being in this galaxy – whether he can touch the Force or not.” Her stern gaze left no doubt of her sincerity. “This will be different because for the first time in my life I am confident where I am and where I want to be. I am sure of who I am and who I want to be – and be with. I didn’t have that thirty years ago. To be honest, I’m glad. Having met all of you, and hearing so much about you from Jag, I’m so glad he had the chance to know your mother.” Gavin’s eyes narrowed in a little concealed threat at the mention. Jaina pressed on, steadily catching and holding each pair of eyes before moving to the next. “She gave him what I could not – happiness. Above all else, I want that for him. I want him to be happy.” Her resolve broke as she met Gavin’s gaze once more. A thousand emotions swarmed her consciousness – What if he hates me? What if he doesn’t want me back? What if this is it? Did I irrevocably destroyed everything? Rational thought slowly took hold. He might be mad, but if there was no hope, why did he bring his family to Ossus? She raised her chin with growing confidence and looked at Cherith as the tears began to escape once more. “I think that now – after all these years apart – we can finally be happy together. Please - give me that chance.”

Silence hung in the air for a moment before Cherith responded. “It’s not ours to give, Jaina.” Her face brightened with a smile as she stepped toward Jaina. “But you are welcome to try. Dad’s in the hanger. My ship had some sort of malfunction just after we arrived in system. He’s been working over there for two days, but with little success. He actually just requested we send for a mechanic from the settlement,” she added with a wink. “Your timing is perfect.”

“If she still remembers how to use a hydrospanner…” The snort punctuated the tender moment like the popping of a soap bubble. Jaina and Cherith turned to watch Gavin as he turned back towards his work project. Cherith looked to Meri, who was silently shaking her head at her husband’s antics. The two women shared a look: Meri raised her eyebrows in Gavin’s direction before shifting her gaze to Jaina and then back to Cherith.

Cherith nodded. “Gavin, why don’t you take Jaina over to the hanger?”

“Me? Send Devan – that’s why he’s here – to give tours.”

“Actually, Gavin, I need Devan here to discuss some estate holdings,” Jak offered. “Cala needs a nap and Meri’s certainly in no condition to take her… It would really be a help.” Jaina watched with some amusement as the family pressured Gavin. Finally, the younger man acquiesced.

“Fine. At least I know where you all stand.” He grabbed a shirt that had been wadded up on the ground. Glaring at each member of his family in turn, he turned and walked back towards the main home. “This way, Master Solo.” The Jedi title was emphasized so that it was more demeaning than anything, but Jaina didn’t acknowledge the jibe. She waved at Cala and flashed a small smile at the others as she moved in to follow Gavin. She took another breath and tried to reign in the butterflies suddenly taking flight in her stomach. This could be interesting.

**

Cherith accepted a sleepy Cala back into her arms as she watched her brother lead Jaina down the path towards the hanger. Devan moved towards Jak. “What estate holdings were you referring to, Jak?”

Sharing a small smile with his wife, Jak responded. “Nothing, Devan. We can go back and work on the roof. I just wanted a reason for Gavin to go instead of you. He needs to work through his issues.”

“Ah.” A large smile spread across the Twi’lek’s face, displaying his sharp teeth. “Well done then, if I may say so.”

“Well, you were right about one thing, Jak” Cherith prodded her husband. “Someone needs a nap.”

“You mean other than me?” Meri chimed in with a grin.

“I bet. There should be time.” Cherith’s wink had a mischievous air. “I think they’ll be gone a while.”

Devan, who had turned with Jak to head back towards the guest house, flipped back around towards the women. “Oh, Cherith! Did you by chance pass on Master Skywalker’s message about Master Solo?”

This time she laughed. “No, Devan, I did not. In fact, I’m glad I got it before Gavin or Dad did. The shock was good for Gavin, and Dad hasn’t had a good surprise lately. He’s due.” She turned back and resumed her trek across the yard, commenting to Meri on the way. “Yes, the next few hours should be very interesting.”

Great update, I really like Cherith a lot lately. applause There is nothing better than a little intrigue at times. At least when it comes to taking certain people by surprise.

....Rational thought slowly took hold. He might be mad, but if there was no hope, why did he bring his family to Ossus? She raised her chin with growing confidence and looked at Cherith as the tears began to escape once more. “I think that now – after all these years apart – we can finally be happy together. grin So Jaina is making up her mind finally... I think you did a very good job with this scene. Sometimes you just need to face a little bit esistance or doupt (in this case Gavin) in order to make up your mind about your true intentions.

cheers,

applause Bravo Jaina, for sticking up for yourself and not caving again. Nicely done.

Aha, I see why the house was a secret, I think. Or I may be off. *shrug* Who can tell?

I hope that both of them arrive at the hanger in one piece.

Great update, TelannaTani, and thanks for the PM. hugs

Loved the descriptions of Jaina's surrounding as she was walking through the woods.

Althought I hope Jaina and Gavin can get along, I do think it is realistic that Gavin would be wary of Jaina.

Love this, can't wait to see Jaina and Jag talk.

Jess! ~

It took me forever but I’m finally here and … I love it.

At first, I had my doubts. The whole:

“hi, Jaina!”
“hi, Jag!”
“poor Kyp”
“yeah”
“so, you wanna get it on?”
“hell yeah!”

felt really, really weird. In retrospect, though…. Wow. You are crafting quite a story here and I am enjoying it immensely.

I think the fact that it had consequences was what hooked me. And such keen ones, too. Especially the realization that they attempted to relive the past instead of facing the present. And Jaina’s harsh words… ouch. And Jag’s wisdom in seeing past them…. kiss I want a Jag like yours, I think.

I love his kids, too. VERY much.

Please PM with updates!

'Twas an honour to be your first post snagger. happy

I was hit again by the age concept. Grandpie Fel. Wow. I've read so many storied with the Baron struggling (or planning on how to best Han) with the concept of being a grandfather. I never even thought about Jag being one one day.

The bantha in the room disclosed... Ha! Such great phrasing.

This was a really interesting chapter. I was a bit nervous about their reactions to Jaina... but it looks like she at least has the majority. Should definitely be quite the walk to the hanger. Gavin's already broken the angry outburst seal, so who knows what he'll say next.

Well done again, Telanna'Tani. applause hugs

Next Wednesday seems too far away.

I'm really happy that Jaina articulated her response so well to Gavin's question. I'm always glad to see her become aware of what she needs to do. Sometimes the Solo stubborness gets in the way.

Interesting introduction of Jag's force-sensitive granddaughter. I guess all roads are leading to Legacy someway.

I can't wait to see just how surprised Jag is when his "mechanic" shows up love

Great post as always applause

So I had thought for a while that it was Jag's estate, but then I thought "hey! What if it was his daugther's?" I wasn't sure though. Now I know for sure. Good post. happy And now I've got the feeling there's going to be an exciting post dealing with Meri, if you know what I mean. mischief

TelannaTani,

Yeah more Cherith! I think it is great that Jag has one child trying to "protect" him and one who "supports" him in everything - even love with a woman other than her own mother. I hope we get to see Jag's reaction to Gavin's attitude toward Jaina, that should be interesting.

And Cala & Jak being Force-sensitive is a nice touch, after all Jaina needs a Force-sensitive grandchild to mentor wink .

Wonderful update.
