Leading Blade: part one
Gray despair sits heavily over the Jedi Praxeum on Ossus, although to an outsider the day could not be more beautiful. The sun shines down, warming everything its rays touch. A gentle breeze blows, keeping the temperature comfortable. None of the residents even notice the pleasant weather. The younglings pick up on the oppressive mood of the adults, and even their games hold little interest.
A lone man hurries across the landing field. He vaults into his X-Wing, the movement blowing the hood of his cloak off, revealing his red hair. Minutes later, the X-Wing blasts off for space.
Ben Skywalker has a mission to accomplish, and he is running out of time.
***
He knows he is dying. He has little control anymore over his mind, but knowledge of his impending death is always present. His body failed him weeks ago, and his mind now spends more time immersed in visions and dreams than in reality. Pain is something he no longer feels, only detachment.
Death is inevitable, and welcome.
In his moments of lucidity he can tell that many of the Jedi come to sit with him, to say goodbye. They try hard not to mourn what is coming, but Jedi are not perfect at avoiding emotions.
She is waiting for him beyond this, already free of the crude matter which holds them all to life. He has missed her so very much these last nine years.
At this moment, he yearns for all of this to be over; for lingering in this state of half-awareness is more tiring than any battle of physical strength. The breeze comes in through the open window, and its cool breath sounds like her.
Not yet, Farmboy.
***
She wakes in the early hours of the morning. The house around her is silent, dark and cold. It is always cold here; she has never quite gotten used to living on an ice world. Slipping out of the bed she pulls a robe around her shoulders for warmth. Her bare feet pad silently across the carpeted floor.
She exits the room and follows the hallway to the stairs. Her feet tread carefully, knowing exactly where to step to avoid any sound. Lights are ignored as her body seeks her favored, worn, chair in the living area. She settles into it and breathes deeply, immersing herself in the Force, hoping to discover what woke her.
Death. Despair sends unbearable turbulence through the energy field.
Darkness will overtake everything, dividing the galaxy in two.
A blinding violet light rises from the darkness. It pierces the cancerous growth, allowing more light to shine through.
The dark and the light dissolve into two figures. Locked together, each battling for supremacy.
“Jaina?” She starts at the sound of his voice, at the gentle touch of his hand on her shoulder. “How long have you been down here?”
She takes a moment to look around. Mid-morning sun is streaming into the room, and her muscles are stiff after being immobile for so long.
“A few hours at least,” Jaina answers. The silence falls heavily upon the room. His hand reaches up to her cheek, brushing lightly at the wetness gathering under her eyes. “Uncle Luke is dying,” she says.
His green eyes hold her gaze. She sees the skepticism there. “I was under the impression that you no longer trusted the Grand Master.”
“I don’t trust the Grand Master, Jag. But I will always love my uncle.”
***
“I’m coming, I’m coming,” he growls in response to the incessant pounding on the door. He pulls himself up out the chair and makes his way towards the sound. It occurs to him he is getting old, it never used to take him this long to move across a room.
“Kyp! Open the door!” calls the voice from outside.
“I said I was coming,” he snaps, throwing open the door. It takes a moment for the identity of his visitor to register. “Good to see you, Kid.” He says finally. “Come on in.”
The younger man brushes past him, before turning and demanding, “Do you know where she is?”
Kyp takes the time to finish closing the door before responding, “Do I know where who is?”
“Dad’s dying. I need to find her.”
“I know that, Ben. I may have left the Order, but I’m not stupid. I can tell that Luke isn’t going to be with us long. You didn’t answer my question. Who are you looking for?”
“Jaina,” answers Ben. “Do you know where she is?”
Kyp sighs, “I haven’t seen her in years. Decades even. Why do you think that I know where she is?”
“Because you were the last one to see her before she disappeared,” replies Ben calmly and with absolute certainty. “You’re avoiding the question,” he comments as Kyp hesitates to answer.
“I did see her just before she left,” conceeds Kyp, “but only because I stopped her and forced her to say a proper goodbye. She didn’t tell me where she was going... and it’s not my business to know where she is now. It isn’t any of yours either.”
Ben sighs heavily, as if suddenly carrying the weight of the galaxy on his shoulders. Sinking into the closest chair, he drops his head into his hands. “I need to find her. The Jedi need her.” He regains some of his strength and looks up at the older man, “Will you help me?”
Kyp is not convinced. He knows why Jaina left the Jedi Order all those years ago; the same thing drove him to leave a few short months after her. “The Jedi have a fine way of showing her that she’s needed. When she left; she left for good.”
“The Jedi began falling apart after she left; there are hardly any of her generation left on Ossus. If Jaina comes back, maybe some of the others will come back too.” Ben rests all of his hopes on this. Of the Jedi that are left, there is no one who could take his father’s place. Many are too old and will soon follow the Grand Master’s path. The rest are too young and inexperienced to carry the burden.
The two men are both reluctant to even think of the other option. Kyp shoves aside the discomfort, he’s too old to keep avoiding things. He has always preferred confronting things head on, anyway. “Why not just let Jacen run the Order.” Kyp chooses to ignore the malicious undertones of his own statement. “He’s been manipulating it for years anyway.”
Ben shoots to his feet. “I know that,” he growls. “Why do you think I want to find Jaina? She’s the only one who stands a chance of making the others see through him. She’s the one who can restore us to the path we’re supposed to be on.”
“You’re putting an awful lot of faith in a woman you haven’t seen since you were fifteen years old, Kid. Thirty years is a long time.”
“I know,” answers Ben.

“I know,” answers Ben.
Wonderful start! I like the look of this timeline. Quite a problem the Jedi seem to have without their sword.
Please pm me if you're going to be doing that sort of thing. I don't want to miss Ben's journey to find her.

i loved it just as much on the third read!
i'm not sure what more i can say about this that i haven't already told you a hundred times but..
At this moment he yearns for all of this to be over, he is tired of lingering in this state of half-awareness. The breeze comes in through the open window, it’s cool breath sounds like her.
Not yet, Farmboy.
that was my favorite moment! you don't even mention any names, but in that section we can tell that this dying man you are describing is in fact, luke. and of course the woman he misses so dearly is mara.
i enjoy moments like that, when the author doesn't always lead the reader by the hand, point for point. it's engaging.
so good to see you post something again! especially something as great as this! i eagerly await more!

Whoa, Jaina's been gone for thirty years . . .
And Luke's dying, and Mara's already dead.
And Jacen's the bad guy isn't he?
Can't wait for Ben's journey to begin. PM list, please. Great work, extremely creative and plausable.

thank you very much! Your reactions are exactly what I was hoping for
and I will happily add you to the pm list. If fact it should be coming your way in just a few minutes!
Jaina Solo stood before us, her demeanor demonstrating how like both her parents she was. Her posture and carriage were regal, something she had obviously learned from my sister. But the expression on her face was pure defiance; a look I’ve seen on Han’s face more times than I can count. She had asked permission to come before the entire Master’s Council, and we had granted it, of course. Now that she was here, I wondered and worried what could have brought her here today. I was afraid I already knew the answer.
When she walked in she took the time to make eye contact with every member of the Council- except one. Our youngest and newest member– her own twin. It saddened me to see the rift between them growing and festering each day.
She waited patiently for me to speak. I let the Force wash through me, so that I would be completely calm before beginning. “Good day, Jedi Solo. What is it you wished to speak to us about.” Jaina seemed startled for a moment at my formal tone, but to be seen before the Council was business, not family.
She responded in the same tone. Although it sounded detached and forced coming from my neice. I felt her draw upon the Force in the same way I had before beginning. “Thank you, Grand Master. I’ve come before the Council today to inform you that I am leaving the Order.”
I felt Mara’s alarm as she stiffened at my side. She spoke before I had the chance. “This seems like a rash decision, Jaina. Why are you choosing to do this?”
Jaina turned to meet Mara’s gaze. “I’m choosing to leave because my opinions on what the Jedi should be and the Council’s decisions about what the Jedi are, are too different. It is only going to cause discord for the Order and my personal well-being if I stay.”
I thought I saw a smile of approval flicker across Kyp Durron’s face, but I could not be sure. The rest of the Council seemed shocked and appalled Jaina was going to such lengths.
I knew nothing any of us could say would make her change her mind. I bowed my head in resignation to this fact. “Very well.” I then stood, and crossed the room to her. “We will miss you, Jaina. I will miss you.” I pulled her into a quick hug, but released her as I felt her tense. Slipping back into my role as Grand Master I stepped back a bit. “I will have to ask you to turn in your lightsaber.” A moment of despair radiated off her, but she quickly curtailed it.
“I understand, Master Skywalker,” she replied. “I ask only that I be allowed to turn my lightsaber over to my former Master, for personal reasons.”
I nod my assent, and step away allowing her a free path to Mara.
“Thank you, and farewell,” she murmers. With sure steps she crosses the room... to Kyp Durron. She extends her hand and the hilt of her lightsaber, which he accepts silently. The shock in the room is palpable as Jaina pivots and exits the room.
I wish it had never come to this.
Luke’s mind suddenly struggles to be free of the undertow of past memories. A chill in the room washes over him: an unwanted, unwelcome intrusion into his solitude.
A wave of despair hits him again as he remembers his present state. A hand settles on his shoulder with a voice accompanying it, pushing through the fog surrounding him.
“Don’t worry, Uncle Luke; I’m making sure everything is run smoothly. The younglings are keeping up with their studies, and the older Jedi are still attending to their missions. I’ll make sure that we don’t lose any strength in the eyes of the Galactic Alliance.” Jacen’s voice sounds wrong to Luke, but he cannot understand why. Everything feels wrong to him these days.
Ben, he thinks. Where has his son gone? Luke cannot feel him close by, and it worries him. He is ready to move past this life, but with Jacen in the room Luke is plauged with worries and fears his life’s work is incomplete. The Jedi are not ready to go on without him.
Jacen’s voice breaks into his thoughts once more. There sounds as if there is some hesitation in his nephew’s voice. “Ben disappeared almost a week ago without telling anyone where he was going. I believe that he has gone to meet up with some of the...” Jacen’s voice trails off for a moment. “The Renegades, who left all those years ago, who couldn’t abide by your, and the Council’s, teachings. I didn’t want to tell you this. I had hoped that Ben would be back before you started looking for him.”
Luke wishes he could explain the hope suddenly rushing through the Force. The Renegades are not to be spoken of on Ossus; their names are not to be spoken aloud. They are the ones who chose to abandon the teachings and leadership of the Council; choosing to follow Jaina’s example instead. Could they be returning soon, to breathe life back into the Jedi Order?
Jacen seems oblivious to the hope in Luke. The other Jedi Solo has never forgiven his own twin for beginning the exodus of the best and the brightest of the Jedi Order. Luke knows Jacen will never accept the lost ones back into the Order.
Jacen’s growing intolerance scares Luke more than anything else ever has.
***
Jag Fel stands silently before the large window in their living space. It is snowing yet again, Csilla is constantly replenishing the layers of snow and ice coating its surface. He can almost feel the ice curling around him. Jaina has spent most of the past four days meditating, and it perplexes him that she seems unable to confide in him.
“
Ktah
,” he curses. He wonders how he allowed himself to become so complacent. Long ago he buried the thought she would one day leave this life they have built together. He should never have forgotten the tie of duty and honor that binds her to the Jedi.
Jag startles as she slides her arms around his waist from behind. He did not notice her approach. With a great sigh, she leans her head against his shoulder.
“I don’t know what to do,” she says simply.
Turning in her embrace he wraps his own arms around her, feeling her body relax at the gesture. “I know what I want you to do,” he says finally, “and I know what, in the end, you will do.”
She smiles up at him, “And are those two things so different?”
He nods, then bends his head down intending to plant a kiss on her forehead. She stretches up and captures his lips with her own. The moment is timeless, Jag feels the same as he did the first time he ever laid eyes on her. Reluctantly he pulls back, realizing the need to breathe. He remains silent, choosing instead to bring her closer to him and rest his head atop hers.
“Are you going to enlighten me,” she teases, “or am I going to have to drag it out of you?”
“You’re going to take things one step at a time. You will most likely return to the Known Regions of the galaxy, and do what others want you to do. To follow some destiny that the Force has supposedly revealed.” He can not stop the slight bitterness from seeping into his words at the end. He knows she hears it as she grows more tense in his arms.
“What would you have me do?” She asks, pulling away from him. The distance only amplifies the tension in the room.
He turns back towards the window, his words quiet and even. “I would have you let someone else worry about the fate of the galaxy, Jaina. It’s not your responsibility to fix things for everyone else. I want you to stay here, and continue living the life we have created together.”
She sighs and he sees, by the reflection in the window, her bury her face in her hands. “I can’t just pretend that the rest of the galaxy doesn’t exisit.” Her voice grows colder, “I’ve done that for too long already.” She does not wait for a reply before leaving the room.
“
Ktah
,” Jag curses once more.
***
A comm chirp breaks the silence between Kyp Durron and Ben Skywalker. Kyp rises to answer it, grumbling as he does. “They ignore me for months, and now everyone wants me at the same time.” The unit flickers to life, and he answers, “Durron.”
“Hello, Kyp,” comes the woman’s reply. Ben cannot see her face, but the sound of her voice is familiar. “I’ve got some news from Ossus for you.” She pauses for a moment, her voice much more solemn when she continues. “They are still refusing to make any comments about Master Skywalker’s condition. I don’t think it bodes well for any of us that the Council, or...” she lets the next word drop. “That they aren’t willing to admit the truth to the public.” Ben’s mind struggles to place a name with the voice. Kyp solves the problem for him.
“Tahiri, we all know that Luke is dying. We don’t need any sort of press release to confirm that. And you don’t have to call him Master Skywalker... we haven’t been part of the Order for decades.”
Tahiri Veila lets out an inelegant snort. “I know I don’t have to. I choose to. I happen to still have some respect for him, even if I don’t agree with him. Anyway, that brings me to my other piece of news. They’re keeping it quiet, but it seems as though Ben has disappeared. Took off without telling anyone that he was leaving or where he was going. I think we need to keep... What?” She sounds annoyed.
Ben hears Kyp chuckle softly. “I already found Ben. Or more accurately, he found me. He’s here right now.” There is silence for a moment. “Got anything else for me?”
“It seems like you already know everything.” Tahiri answers. “We plan on just lying low for a while. Everyone’s doing their best to keep peace in their own little corners. Nothing too big, I think attracting attention to ourselves is the last thing we need right now.”
“I agree. Tahiri, there is one thing you can do for me.”
“Anything.”
“Have you heard anything about Jaina lately?”
“No, nothing.” Ben hears a sigh, although he can not tell who it comes from. “It’s a big galaxy; there’s lots of places to hide. I do know this though: if she were to come back, I know many I’ve talked to would follow her again. She gave so many of us courage...” Tahiri’s voice trails off once more.
“Let me know if you do hear anything.”
“I will. I should go now. May the Force be with you, Kyp.”
“And with you,” he replies before cutting off the transmission. “You know, Ben, it isn’t polite to eavesdrop.”
“You’re the one who stayed in the same room and didn’t ask me to leave,” retorts Ben. “So you’ve been in touch with the other Renegades all along?”
A dark cloud passes over Kyp’s face as he comes back into view. “I don’t like that term. Just because we didn’t agree with the Council.... I don’t want to hear that out of your mouth again,” he says pointing his finger accusingly at Ben.
“Fine, touchy subject.”
“And to answer the question, yes; most of us are still in contact with each other, but nothing as formal as the Jedi Order.” Kyp reaches the seat he had vacated a short while ago and settles back in. “About two years after I left, Tahiri and Zekk contacted me. They told me about their own decisions to leave, and wanted my help organizing and keeping track of the others who left. At the time the numbers of Jedi choosing this path were growing exponentially. I’m sure you remember.”
Ben nods in response not wanting to interrupt Kyp’s flow of memories.
“I agreed. I didn’t have anything better to do in those two years. We set up an information network, agreeing to leave the big stuff for the Order to deal with. We didn’t want any part of that. Individuals would go where the Force willed, help sort out little disputes. Basically we’ve spent these past decades doing what the Jedi are supposed to do. Help the little people, the average everyday citizen who’s getting run over. When backup is needed, it’s asked for. Otherwise we mostly keep to ourselves. As we hear about Jedi leaving the Order we seek them out, give them the option of joining us. The only thing we ask is that they check in with Tahiri, Zekk, or myself once every few months. It works for us.”
“That’s good,” Ben says cautiously before he attempts to bring the conversation back to his goal, his self-appointed mission. “What about Jaina?”
Kyp gets a far-away look in his eyes, one which passes quickly. “Jaina may have given a lot of us the courage and inspiration to do what we did. What we do. But she has never been a part of our...” Kyp’s face quirks in a parody of a smile, “renegade operations.”
Ben feels discouraged, he does not know where to turn next. A sigh escapes him. “I should go, I have a galaxy to search,”
“Wait just one minute, Kid,” interrupts Kyp. “I didn’t say I wouldn’t help you.”
“You sure didn’t seem to be in any hurry to say yes either,” retorts Ben, anger creeping into his voice. He gets to his feet, attempting to release some of the tension inhabiting his body. “I don’t have time to sit arguing in circles. I need to do something, and it has to be done now.”
“Sit down, Ben,” says Kyp, a hint of command in his tone. “I’ll do what I can to help you find her. Let’s start by planning where we want to start. Do you want something to eat, or drink?”
Ben shakes his head at the idea of food. Relief radiates off of him. “Thank you,” he says sincerely.
***
Jacen Solo, heir apparent to the position of Grand Master of the Jedi Order, is not happy. The stone hallways resound with the rapid thud of his boot heels. The Force is pulsing with more energy and enthusiasm than it has in a long time. Things are not going according to his plans. He struggles in vain to keep the scowl from his face, in case there are any wandering the halls.
Frustration coils inside of him, pulling at every fiber of his being. Movement is the only way he can release any portion of it. He feels the Force flowing through him with no escape, a powerful current of darkness which must be carefully contained within the walls of the Jedi Praxeum. He cannot reveal who he truly is, not until his position is secure.
His pace increases. Jacen will not allow his plans to fail now.

I really like the position you've placed Jacen in: one better for disposing of the Jedi than even Palpatine got himself into. We all know what he "can't" reveal.
I like the idea of the Renegade Jedi, and certainly agree with them for leaving the Jacen-dominated council.
I am sorry that Jag is having trouble with Jaina's decision to return to the known galaxy. I understand, but I hope he comes around soon.

RE: Leading Blade (future AU) J/J, Luke, Ben, Kyp, Jacen part 2/7 on 10-31-06
now let's see if i'm allowed to post this!
well, as i told you, this was quite a nice suprise to see posted as i got off of work. and it was even better that there was new stuff in this post i haven't read before!
this story continues to develop wonderfully, and your gift for dialogue really shines though, especially in the ben/kyp scene. i know when i'm reading dialogue, and it plays in my head as i read, like it would in a movie, that i'm reading really good stuff.
i could go on more, but mostly i would be repeating things i've already told you when i first read this! so i'll just say, post the next part soon! i do believe it's all new material for me from here on out, so

Thank you, Jacen certainly has gotten himself into an ideal place to wreck havoc upon the Jedi. The Renegade Jedi finally decided to take matters into their own hands... and perhaps became the better Jedi for it. As for Jag, he'll come around, he's always known that something like this was coming.
More soon

Thanks so much! I'd be happy to add you to the pm list.

I see it finally let you post
I'm glad the dialogue sounds natural, I'm always worried that it's going to sound OOC or forced. (yes, yes I know.... I'm my own worst critic) And the next five posts should be all new stuff for you.
The next post should be up tonight or tomorrow, it still needs to be edited before I post, but I'm saving that until after I meet today's goal for my NaNoWriMo novel.

Wow, just read this for the first time. I really like it. There's a maturity in your writing and you do write good dialogue. Luke's dying thoughts help give needed back story...and you can't help but wonder if Jacen is pressing his death faster.?
Jaina should be the leader of the Jedi and Sith Solo has himself a slow and patient plan just as Palpatine did, very clever. I like Ben and Kyp calling the 45 year old "kid" was a humorous throw back to Han's way of speaking.
I can't wait to see Jaina involved.

Thank you very much
there's more of Jaina in this chapter, I hope that you continue to enjoy!
Two bodies, complete opposites, move in near perfect harmony. As one strikes the other parries. A kick from the second causes the first to leap and roll away. The physical exercise involves both completely, and they almost miss seeing the semi-dazed figure walk by them towards the family’s personal docking bay. When they recognize the figure they both stop mid-move.
“Mom?” the girl calls, worried. There is no sign that she was heard. The two look at each other, knowing what the other is planning. The Fel twins take off running in opposite directions. “Mom?” she calls again. “What’s wrong?”
This time Jaina Solo-Fel slows for a moment, turning slightly to stare at her daughter. She makes no verbal response. The younger woman comes to a halt a short way from her mother. Her hand reaches out to rest on Jaina’s shoulder.
Jaina shrugs off the contact. “I’m fine, Sienna,” she says. “I’m just heading out for a short spin.”
Sienna Fel is not convinced; her mother’s voice is too disconnected, too distant. “Do you want some company?” she offers. If Jaina has her mind set on something there will be no changing it. But perhaps her presence could provide a buffer to the more rash impulses of the older woman.
“No. Stay here,” more than a hint of authority creeps into Jaina’s voice. She turns quickly and heads towards her X-Wing before Sienna, or anyone else, can stop her.
Sienna runs her fingers through her blond hair, concern etched all over her young face. Blowing out a breath, she hurries after her brother. Perhaps their father can talk some sense into their mother.
***
Syrrin Fel bursts into his father’s office without bothering to knock, he is as impulsive as his mother. “Do you know where Mom is going?” he demands.
Jag Fel looks up from the report he is reading. It seems the paperwork multiplies each time he turns his back. Calmly, hoping to diffuse his son’s anxiety, he replies, “I wasn’t aware Jaina was going anywhere.”
Syrrin lets out an exasperated sigh, “Sienna and I were sparring down by the ships, and she just walked by us, like she couldn’t even see us. What’s been wrong with her the last few days?”
“I wish I knew the answer, Syrrin,” he answers honestly. “I know that she’s worried about Luke, but she hasn’t said much to me, either, lately. I’ll go down there and talk to her,” Jag begins rising from his chair when his daughter runs through the open door.
“She’s gone,” Sienna says. “She barely said anything, then she hopped in her X-Wing and blasted off. I’m worried, Dad; I’ve never seen her like this.”
Jag Fel pushes down the despair threatening his heart. He glances momentarily at the piles on his desk.
It can wait.
“Go grab your things,” he instructs, “We’re going after her.”
The twins dart out the door; it will not take them long. “I won’t lose you, Jaina,” he whispers, “What we have is too important. Destiny be damned.” Jag picks up the pre-packed duffel bag sitting near the door and makes his way to the docking bay.
***
A holographic map of the galaxy takes up most of the darkened room, it only succeeds in making Ben’s task seem hopeless. It would take a thousand lifetimes to search the vastness. Even the Force offers no suggestions on where to look.
He glances up at Kyp Durron’s face, the older man is staring intently into the revolving image.
“Do you have any ideas?” Ben finally asks.
The former Jedi is silent for a few moments longer, “I think that we should look up an old friend.” His finger stabs into the heart of the Unknown Regions. “Maybe Jag Fel has heard something.”
“That’s the best you can come up with?” asks Ben impertinently. “The Jedi, especially Jaina, haven’t been allowed anywhere near Chiss Space since the beginning of the Swarm War. She’d never be hiding there.” He pauses for a moment, “Besides, didn’t he get shot down over Tenupe by Aunt Leia?”
“Exactly,” replies Kyp with a grin. “It’s the last place anyone would expect to find her. Therefore it’s the first place we’re going to look. I’ll pack up a few supplies, and we’ll be off.”
Ben nods his head, at least they will be doing something. “I’ll go have Artoo start the preflight on my X-Wing.”
***
Jaina settles her ship onto the moist ground. Steamy, pungent air swirls around her as she pops the hatch. The heat is almost overwhelming after the cold vacuum of space and the ice plains of Csilla. She quickly removes her helmet and grabs her lightsaber from the storage space beneath the seat. A Force assisted jump launches her out of the cockpit, her knees bending to catch her weight.
Her boots sink slightly into the muck, and squelch as she pulls them out to take the next step. Jaina Solo-Fel chooses to ignore the unpleasant surroundings. After all, she lived here for five years after leaving Ossus. It was here, on Dagobah, she trained herself to become a Jedi Master. She remembers the long hours of isolation with a certain fondness, not that she had ever been truly alone here.
She comes to a stop a short distance from the dilapidated ruins of an old hut where a glowing blue figure is seated in front of the door.
“Welcome back, Jaina.”
“Hello, Grandfather,” she answers. It long ago ceased to bother her that her grandfather appears far younger than she is.
“How are the twins?” Anakin Skywalker’s tone is light; he knows Jaina isn’t yet ready to broach the heavier concerns bringing her here.
His tactic is rewarded with a smile, “They’re doing wonderfully. Syrrin is an incredible pilot, even if he did inherit my,” she looks at the ghost, “
our
, more reckless tendencies.”
Anakin can not stop his laughter. “So now you’re blaming me for this?”
“Of course.” She answers. “And Sienna has almost completed her medical training, she still needs to learn how to integrate her traditional schooling with her Force abilities, but she will get there. They’re worried about me. I left without telling them where I was headed.” Her shoulders droop, “I’m afraid.”
Anakin nods, “I understand. There’s nothing wrong with being afraid. It’s only a problem when you allow it to rule you.” He sighs, “you can do this Jaina, you have a strength in you that I have always admired. You get it from your mother, and your grandmother.”
The smile returns to Jaina’s face for a moment, but it fades quickly as she remembers the path ahead of her. “Uncle Luke is dying,”
“I know,” interrupts Anakin. “We’re waiting for him. He should have passed on weeks ago. But he’s holding on. Luke is waiting for you to return, to take your place at the head of the Order.”
Despair wells up inside of Jaina, “It’s not my responsibility! I don’t want that kind of power!” She sinks to the ground, “All I want is to be able to live in peace.”
“It is your destiny, Jaina,” reminds Anakin, as he kneels near her. A scowl is her only response. “You can handle it, and by not wanting the power, you’re less likely to abuse it. The Jedi will follow you, all you have to do is stand up and be seen.”
“Jacen,” she whispers, avoiding her grandfather’s gaze. “He will never allow this.”
“It’s not his decision to allow it or not,” replies Anakin. “Jaina, look at me.” Jaina raises her head at the command, “Jacen has made his decision; he has allowed darkness to corrupt his soul. Save him if you can, or stop him. No one else will. No one else is strong enough.”
“I think I should just go back to Csilla, and live out my life there. I should never have returned to the Known Regions.”
Anakin looks dejectedly down at the ground. “Then you condemn the galaxy to destruction.”

RE: Leading Blade (future AU) J/J, Luke, Ben, Kyp, Jacen part 3/7 on 11-4-06
I like the twins. Seem to be good combinations of their parents.
I loved Jag having the packed bag while beginning the conversation stating he had no idea Jaina was going anywhere. So very parental.
Wonderful use of Grandpa Anakin on Dagobah. Always thought he'd be a great friend for Jaina. I'm glad he has the confidence in her to make things right, even if she's worried. Is he going to stay with us for the rest of the story?
Now I have to say things could be messy if Kyp and Ben arrive on Csilla just as the Fel family leave. The Chiss evidently still don't like Jedi very much.
great update
