I agree with the posters above that I like how you tied this into what's happening now in the books and what could happen in the comics.
I hope you write a sequel. I loved to see a scene where they confront Pallaeon about his antics.

RE: Corellia Surprise (post-Bloodlines LOTF story) - J/J Index Fall Challenge - last post Nov 10th!
You had a lot of ground to cover in this challlenge, in order to get Jaina and Jag back on the right track. I think their conversation does a great job of closing the gap yet being true to the drama that has plagued their lives.
Since the worst days of the Yuuzhan Vong war, she always had thought that the experience of Anakin’s death and Jacen’s absence would be the worst feeling she would ever know. Now she knew differently. Some kinds of loss were worse than death.
I love this part. It speaks volumes about what Jaina has been through and still touches her strength of character.
After a second he said, “What about Pellaeon?”
She furrowed her brow. “You think he’s recruiting me?”
“He’s already done it once.”
*giggle* Touche.
“We’re not the old Empire, Jaina.”
No they're not, and I think you've done some great foreshadowing for LotF on down the line.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
Jag stopped, looking back over his shoulder. “Like I said, to –”
Jaina was already out of her chair. “Not without me, you’re not.”
Great ending
Getting back fighting on the same side. It's a how they started out together in the first place

Ha. I can see his total deadpan delivery of this.
Me too. I really like that line.
I also like it because it hints to some already-canon-hinted possibility for the future.
Yup.
Yay they can be civil! ... And then go beat someone up together.
It’s what they’re best at.
ccp
: Thanks!
jasa
: Glad to see that line was a hit.

Now we can look forward to a sequel.
Sort of.
I’ve started working on another J/J story with similar kinds of themes, although it’s likely to end up being
Tempest
-compliant canon speculation rather than an AU (which it would have to be to fit with this).
I’ll be sure to post a link here when I start posting.
Hopefully they'll get Jag back in the novels too and they won't make a mess out of his return either.
I have confidence in Troy and Aaron. I think we’ll be quite happy with
Tempest
and
Exile
.

I had so much fun with that, I’m working on another story that does that, too.
I loved to see a scene where they confront Pallaeon about his antics.
I think I’ll leave that to your imaginations.

You don’t serve with Thrawn that long and not become sneaky.

It helps to have a two-and-a-half year gap, give or take, since the Battle of Tenupe. Emotions would have been quite raw back then (as they were in
Splinters
) but by now both Jaina and Jag have had some time to think, heal, and forgive. Grudges are unworthy of either of them, but they still need to hear that from the other one, in person, to really know it deep down. Once they have that, they can start to move past it. As they say to each other here, each one knows the other only did what they thought was right. How can you not forgive that, even if you think it was a mistake?
It speaks volumes about what Jaina has been through and still touches her strength of character.
The Sword of the Jedi.
It’s not that she won’t know peace in the war sense, but rather peace in the spiritual sense. I think there’s a good argument that her losses, of Anakin to death and Jacen to the Sith, are much deeper than Luke’s or Leia’s at a similar age. It will change her forever, probably taking a bit of the brightness from her spirit while also forging her into the ultimate weapon of justice and duty…
Getting back fighting on the same side. It's a how they started out together in the first place
Exactly.
Thanks for the great replies, everyone!

Finally got over to this one. Wonderful story - I'm just sad there's not more! I would love to see the conversation with the "sneaky old man." As TKL said, you've done a fantastic job of bringing them directly from their separate paths back together to fight side by side in a believable, realistic way. After so many years, there's not a lot of anger, only silences and a bit of filling in the gaps. Absolutely fantastic! Congrats on your win!

This was great...I loved it....
I wonder what they had to say to Pellaeon when they got there...I'm sure the old bird had a nice snigger...

Have fun reading the NJO and DN!
Some of the best novels in all of the EU are in those series, IMO.

Good thing for Pellaeon I let him escape without that one. It was tempting to expand the story, but some of my other plot bunnies took over.
After so many years, there's not a lot of anger, only silences and a bit of filling in the gaps.
In an odd kind of way, I think the passage of time actually makes it easier for Jaina and Jag to get back together. As TKL showed in
Splinters
, in the aftermath of Tenupe the emotions would still have been deep and very raw. A few years later, though, the pain wouldn’t be as sharp – and more importantly, the painfulness of the breakup and the Killik war would have become counterbalanced with the older happy memories of better times. Really I think they would already have forgiven each other. They just need to meet in person again to say it.
Flowerlady
: Glad you liked it.
I wonder what they had to say to Pellaeon when they got there...
Knowing Jaina, it probably involved a lot of profanity.
Thanks for the replies, everyone!
