	I just finished reading this through and I must say this is one of the best speculation stories I've read in a while....I absolutely love it... Your characterizations are right on and I think that is what makes this so believable...You don't need to worry about your characterizations at all...they are perfect... I haven't read all of Tempest yet but I have to say I don't buy the story of Jag as a bounty hunter....That is as unbelievable as saying Hutts don't deal spice... I like your theory that he was secretly working for the Empire....And I like the idea of him rebuilding a planet...that fits so well with the Legacy Comics history that Fel I was instrumental with doing just that...great tie-in...I think that is what I like about speculation--the trying to tie the two stories together... I do have a question for you, speaking of the comics which isn't really related to your story...Do you think Jacen is Krayt or do you think Krayt is someone else completely?...Just wondering...I personally think he is despite the Darth Who contest...But I have a story that explores a possible other person as DK.... Oh, and I too think Jag would have to become a harder person to be the eventual Emperor... Wedge should be worried... I love your OC...such an unlikely personallity for an Imperial...I love it... I also am curious what Jag would want with the Solo's, but I'm not surprised...I can think of several reasons...But it will be great to see Jag's response to Jaina... I can't wait to read the rest... They've given us an interesting present and a fascinating future, but have left how one gets to the other for us to fill in. It'll be interesting to see just how much (or even if) they intertwine in future books. Do you think Jacen is Krayt or do you think Krayt is someone else completely?... I'm not sure yet. I have a couple of theories, but I want to see what Jacen is like as a full on Sith lord before I really start to flesh them out. At the moment, I can think of convincing arguments for both sides. 	Chapter 6 Jacen Solo walked into the Council Room, and for the first time, sat down among the masters. The seat he had taken had sat empty since the death of Tresina Lobi. Ben Skywalker followed him in, but stayed near the door. He could feel his father’s eyes on him, but he did not raise his head to meet them. The disappointment there would be too hard to take. Once he had come back to Coruscant, Ben had stayed with his parents and spent his days at the Jedi Temple. The call of the Galactic Alliance Guard proved too much, however, and within a two weeks time he was back at Jacen’s side. The tension in the room was palpable. Every master felt it. It was impossible not to. The Force practically hummed with all that was being left unsaid. Luke Skywalker slowly surveyed the room. Once, he could have predicted where any master would stand on a given issue. Now, all of the old patterns were tossed away. What started as rational debates turned into a fierce arguments. Whatever position was left standing when the dust settled became the position of the Council. Luke detested this new system of decision-making, but saw no way to end it without alienating at least half the council. He decided to begin the meeting, dreading the first issue that would be brought up. “Welcome. Especially you, Master Solo,” he said, nodding toward Jacen. “Thank you, Master,” Jacen replied, with a detached politeness. “Tionne, I believe you have our first item of business.” “Yes, Master Skywalker.” The silver-haired woman stood and moved over to the holoprojector situated in the corner of the room. “I received this last night. I do not know who sent it. All that was attached was a note asking if I would add this to the Jedi Archives.” She hesitated for a moment, looking at Jacen before looking away. “It’s holo footage from a surveillance camera. Taken the night of the Corellian Vigil.” She placed the chip into the player. Luke closed his eyes, unwilling to watch what he knew was coming. Across the room, Kyp Durron shifted uncomfortably in his seat. In fact, the only master that did not look discomfited was Jacen. The recording began to play. ---------- It had started simply enough. Trina Holdo was a Corellian student, studying medicine at the newly rebuilt Southern Campus of the University of Coruscant. Her brother had been killed aboard one of the Corellian ships during the recent skirmish at Hapes. In his honor, she and her fiancé Cass Ryner organized a vigil to be held at the site of the Corellian Sanctuary. What started out as a small, personal memorial soon grew. When the night of the vigil came, over 20,000 Corellians were present to honor their dead. Despite having been granted a permit to assemble, Trina and Cass were sure that the GA Guard would show up at the vigil. In an effort to forestall any violence, Trina and Cass tried to confiscate all the weapons, but in a crowd of that many Corellians, it was hard to find them all. Just as expected, the GA Guard did show up at the vigil, in force. What was unexpected was the fact that Jacen Solo was personally leading them. Rows of armored troops surrounded the Corellian crowd. Slowly but surely the crowd grew restless. Angry shouts could be heard, against the GA in general and Jacen Solo in specific. Trina and Cass looked at each other helplessly. They knew that violence was imminent. The only question was who would shot first. It happened in a split second. The naked eye could not tell which came first- the blaster blot or the ignition of a lightsaber. After that, a flurry of blaster bolts filled the air. Trina dropped to the ground and started crawling away from the crossfire. By this point the troops had also joined in the action. From the left, Trina heard the explosion of a grenade, and a smoky haze filled the air. From behind, the angry shouts of the crowd had been replaced with the cries of the wounded. By the time that the shooting had stopped and the haze had dissipated into the Coruscant night, two hundred and fifty lay dead in the plaza in front of the Corellian Sanctuary. Of those, forty-three wore the armor of the GA Guard. Seventeen of the dead Corellians, including Trina Holdo and Cass Ryner, bore lightsaber wounds. ---------- The recording shut off. Silently, Tionne removed the datachip and returned to her seat. Luke glanced again at the other masters, wondering if he should be the first to speak. It appeared he would have to. Kenth Hamner stared straight ahead, betraying no emotion. Corran Horn wore a look of distaste, but it was clear that he was not going to start the discussion. Saba Sebatyne was inscrutable, even through the Force. Luke glanced at Mara, only to have her hold his gaze for a moment before turning away. Only Kyp Durron showed any sort of real emotion. The fury in his face was real. Luke looked over toward Jacen. If anything, he looked bored. Abruptly, he spoke, shocking everyone out of their silence. “I’m not going to defend the actions of the GAG, if that’s what you expect of me. I don’t think there’s anything to defend. Still, Chief Omas asked me to relay a request, a request that I happen to agree with. Since the number of incidents connected to the Corellian insurrection has increased galaxy-wide, we ask that the Jedi coordinate any missions that might involve that conflict with the GAG.” The room burst into a loud confusion. Kenth Hamner and Kyle Katarn were debating some point of Jacen’s announcement. Both men’s faces grew redder by the minute as their argument increased in intensity. Corran Horn tried to intervene, but was only drawn into the argument. Mara turned to Jacen with a raised eyebrow and a pointed question. Kam and Tionne Solusar talked with each other, straining to be heard over the noise. Strangely, only Kyp was silent. ---------- The meeting had gone longer than any in Luke’s recent memory. He waited as the masters filed out the door. Through the Force, Luke could feel the emotions pouring off of each council member. As Kyp walked towards the door, Luke pulled him aside. “Kyp, would you walk with me for a minute?” Kyp hesitated, then shrugged his shoulders. “Sure. I’ve got nothing but time.” The two men began to walk along the corridor. Luke waited a moment before bringing up the topic that had been bothering him since the beginning of the meeting. “So, I sense that you were disturbed by the footage from the Corellian Vigil. I’ll admit, I don’t like it either. Nothing about that night represents who the Jedi are.” “Doesn’t represent who the Jedi are? Master Skywalker, Jacen killed seventeen people at what should have been a peaceful memorial. The Order is being blamed for that night. Even I blame the Order for that night, Jacen at least. If he hadn’t been there as a puppet for the Alliance, it might have stopped the bloodshed.” Luke was taken aback at the vehemence in Kyp’s voice. “I’m no fonder than you of the fact that my nephew was the one involved. But, as much as I regret to say it, he was acting within GA guidelines, even if that is not the way a Jedi should have dealt with the situation. And believe me, I am going to discuss how he handled the situation with him.” Kyp was silent for a long moment before changing tactics. “Master, don’t you think that Jacen is going a little far. I’m just afraid that the Jedi aren’t his primary loyalty. Do you think we gave him a seat on the Council a little too quickly?” “I thought that you were in favor of making Jacen a master. Something about different views on the Council?” “A master, yes. Grandmaster, no.” “What do you mean by that?” “I mean that he is making decisions that affect all of the Jedi. Putting the Order under GA control? Even knowing that someone in the Guard is in contact with Lumiya, a Sith?” Kyp answered incredulously. “I am all too aware of that, Kyp. However, maybe by placing ourselves in closer cooperation with the GAG, we will be able to better track down just how far her influence reaches.” Try as he might, Kyp couldn’t restrain the snort that escape. “Master, that’s like wading into a very small pond where you know there’s a krakana, and hoping to find it before it finds you.” “And what about second chances? Are we going to give up on Han and Leia just like that, because they did something the Alliance didn’t like? And what about Jaina? No one even knows where she is right now.” Kyp grew silent for a second. “I didn’t think that we gave up on our own that easily,” he finished. For all of Kyp’s questions, Luke didn’t have answers. Instead, he just walked further down the corridor. Eventually he spoke, without looking at Kyp. “You’re angry with me.” Kyp stopped. Luke turned around to face him. In his eyes Luke saw a sadness that he could not begin to explain. “No, Luke,” Kyp said. “Merely disappointed.” He gave a short bow. “Master, I take my leave.” As Luke watched him walk down the corridor in the opposite direction, he thought, I’ve lost another one. I wonder how many more we can afford to lose. That last thought shook him. He wondered if the fact that he was even asking the question meant that he hadn’t already lost himself along the way.
