	TelannaTani: Thanks! If you'll humor me, there are a couple of things in your last post that I want to touch on (about Chapter 6). You raised some realy good points. Dangerous. I will be very disappointed if Luke actually goes through with this in profic. I agree and empathize with Kyp in this – I was greatly disappointed that Jacen was given that much power – being placed on the Council – when he already has so much within the current GA government. Chilling. I agree with you, it is too dangerous. All the same, I could see it happening precisely because he has so much power in the GA. As long as Luke has the Order following the leaders of the GA, he really can't object to Jacen on those grounds and I don't think he is ready to openly confront him about the Sith thing. Solo’s Non-support of the new Empire: Honestly, I don’t know that Leia would make such a quick decision regarding this. Despite the past connotation associated with the word and entity that is the “Empire,” she is a sharp political mind. There are wide-reaching implications of the claims Jag makes about the Empire he’s going to forge. To dismiss these ideologies out of hand, would be a mistake, IMO – one I’m not sure Leia would make. Then again, Leia’s fierce support for a democratic nation would of course create animosity towards the seemingly military state Jag proposes. So on that basis, I could see it I suppose. I don't think Leia could ever really support any government that called itself the Empire. There is too much history and emotion attached to the name, regardless of the ideology. It's like a person who ideologically is a Republican, but votes Democrat in every election because they can't stand the name Republican. Or it would be like asking someone from the Cold War to support a new Soviet Union- it wouldn't be the USSR of Stalin or Kruschev or even Gorbachev, but the name itself is too much to get past. That's what I was thinking when I wrote Leia rejecting Jag's offer so quickly. Glad to see you back up-n-at-'em. Hope you're feeling better Thanks. On the other hand, the more I think about it, the more I think that Leia would still reject the offer and renounce the Empire. Not necessarily because of the emotional responce with the name, but because of her deep belief - like her mother before her - in the idea of democracy. Any group that puts so much power in the hands of one person is dangerous. But then again, she's so disillusioned with that system at this point.... I think you're right about Leia's support of democracy...she would have a hard time supporting any kind of single-person rule. Because of that, I think that she could never accept Jag's offer. 	Chapter 8 “If there is no further business, then this Council meeting is adjourned,” Luke Skywalker announced, his hands planted on the table in front of him. Before any of the other Jedi Masters could move, Jacen Solo was out of his chair and out of the door. He stalked down the hall, his arms folded across his chest. No one else moving about the Jedi Temple dared disturb him, not that they would have anyway. Apparently there was one who was willing to disturb the furious Master. “Colonel Solo!” Ben Skywalker stood in the middle of the hall in front of Jacen. He was awkwardly tugging on his robes, with a nervous look on his face. “Can I talk to you for a minute?” “Not now, Ben,” Jacen all but growled, never slowing. “But it’s…” “I said not now.” Ben watched as Jacen marched toward the large doors at the end of the corridor. Without breaking his pace, Jacen raised a hand. Both doors flew open, hitting the walls loudly. A gust of wind blew through the open doors, fluttering the dark-colored Jedi robes Jacen reluctantly donned for Council meetings. Ben watched the dark figure of Jacen outlined against Coruscant’s orange sky for as long as he could. For some reason, the sight unnerved him. “What has you so fascinated?” The voice from behind startled Ben out of his reverie. He turned to find his father behind him. Luke’s face was open and friendly, but his eyes were shadowed. It startled Ben how much older his father looked. “Just thinking, I guess. Anything interesting happen in Council?” Ben asked, hoping to change the subject before his father could question him further. It was hard to lie to Luke Skywalker, but with a little effort, one could distract him. At least, that’s what Ben had learned from watching his mother. Luke sighed. “Only the latest round of war between Kyp and Jacen.” He hesitated for a moment. “I’m free at the moment. Would you like to spar?” Ben didn’t answer. He remembered all too well the last sparring session between him and his father. Apparently Luke did also. “Nothing like that. Just a little familial competition.” “Alright,” Ben finally agreed. For a moment, Luke wanted to put his arm around Ben’s shoulders, but he resisted the urge. He didn’t know how the move would be received and he didn’t want to start another fight. Instead, he headed toward the gym, calling over his shoulder, “Maybe we’ll figure out a move that can beat your mom.” “Never happen,” Ben replied, absently. With one last look toward the still open doors, he followed his father. --------- Jacen was still furious when he met Lumiya in the abandoned storefront that served as their new meeting place. Even the long ride and distance from the Temple hadn’t been enough to calm him down. “You seem upset,” Lumiya said, barely hiding the irony in her voice. It was all the provocation Jacen needed to explode. “Why did they even put me on the Council if they aren’t going to do anything I say? Never in my life have I seen a more short-sighted, squabbling group of people. And I grew up in politics!” His rant echoed in the abandoned room. He walked over to the far wall, idly playing with a bit of the peeling paint. He paid no attention to Lumiya as she settled against a dusty table. “Something needs to be done about some of the masters. Especially Mara Jade and Kyp Durron. They’re the most vocal against me. I’m not positive on Kyle Katarn’s position, but I don’t think he’ll be a problem. None of the others are brave enough to challenge me. Or foolish enough.” Lumiya had to strain to hear him; he was talking more to himself than to her. Even with the Force augmenting her senses, it was a challenge. Following the explosion in the bar after her duel with Luke Skywalker, her hearing had never fully returned. Her other injuries had healed quickly enough, though. “And then the Empire. Within the past four days, sixteen planetary legislatures have issued statements commending Admiral Fel on his promotion and wishing him a, let me get this right, ‘long and successful tenure.’ They’re a step away from asking to be readmitted to the Empire! Fel knows better than to think that I’ll sit by and let him rebuild. I’ve sent a battle group to the edge of Alliance space, within striking distance of the Empire. If he so much as thinks about moving against the Alliance or allying with the Corellians…well, he won’t know what hit him.” “Are you finished?” Lumiya asked. “Or do you want to go on addressing your inadequacies?” The glare Jacen sent her way was colder than winter on Hoth. “Do you have something to add?” Lumiya smoothly stood from where she had been leaning. “I’ve already dealt with your Imperial problem, my boy.” “How?” “One of my…associates is in place. The plan will not only strike a crippling blow at Imperial leadership, but give a certain Jedi colonel a new galactic platform. It will force Fel’s hand. Either he does nothing and looks ineffective, or he acts and looks tyrannical. Either way, we win.” Jacen regarded her suspiciously. “And just who is this associate?” “I’ve told you before. I am not the only one.” “I know what you said before. I just don’t believe you.” A strange look came over Lumiya’s face, at least the portions that could be seen. Her voice was strangely subdued. “Then I’ve taught you well.” If Jacen noticed her odd behavior, he ignored it. “And what is this plan? I want to know what’s going on if I’m to help or support it.” “When it happens, you won’t miss it. I won’t say anything more.” She walked over to Jacen and brushed flakes of peeled paint off the shoulders of his uniform. “Besides, you are the beacon of law and order in the galaxy. It wouldn’t do to have you know about criminal action in advance, now would it.” With a shrug, Jacen moved away and headed toward the door. “Then play your little games. I hope you know what you’re doing. If…or when this goes bad, then it’s on your own head.” Lumiya stood alone in the empty shop for a long moment after he left, lost in her own thoughts.
