	OMG!!!!! I only now found this masterpiece!!! I love it!! Keep up the great, great work! The characters are portrayed perfectly! Kyp is grand! And Jag's right hand Colonel is awesome!!! Please, more?????Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease?????? I really liked Jacen all the way through the books, and still like him going evil now, but it's real heavy stuff to read and the authors ALWAYS leave us hanging, so I try to wait with reading the new books until I got the next one in line on my table (granted it doesn't work all that well, 'cause I'm just too curious about how they will continue with this:);))...what I wanted to say was that your work, your story here, even though it's had a couple of cliffies by now , and of course got it's dark plot lines (which are really well done), it's SO well written that I can't even think about waiting to read it until you're finished. 	Chapter 9 Jaina stood in front of the closed doors of Jag’s office, arms crossed in front of her. For a moment, no one moved. Then Davert swiveled to look at Jag, almost afraid of what he’d find. To the casual observer, Jag looked like the same stoic admiral they had seen on their roodscreens. Davert was no casual observer. Two and half years of working with the man had taught Davert how to judge his expressions, and while he appeared collected, Davert knew it wouldn’t last for long. Not with Jaina. “Colonel Davert?” Jag said, his eyes never leaving Jaina. “Yes sir?” “Would you please go check that the moffs have arrived safely at the spaceport and are transferring up to their ships? Captain, Princess, why don’t you join him?” It was not a request. “Yes sir,” Davert replied hastily. He practically propelled Han and Leia out the door, into the outer office. With one last look at the two silent figures, he closed the door. It was a battle of wills. Neither Jag nor Jaina was willing to be the first to break the silence. Jag took the opportunity to study her. She had changed in the five years since he had seen her last, granted she wasn’t looking her best at that last encounter. The same delicate structure was evident in her face, her eyes the same brown. But there was a spark in those eyes, a spark that hadn’t been there during her time with the Joiners. He was glad to see it back; he had missed it. Predictably, Jaina was the first to speak. “Restarting the Empire? Have you gone crazy?” She all but yelled. “I’m doing what I have to! As for being crazy, you would certainly know more about that than I would. I’ll let you be the judge.” Jag could feel his composure already slipping. “What happened to you, Jag? The Jag I knew tried to stop wars, not start them. Or have you gotten bitter and decided to take it out on the galaxy.” She huffed. “You’ve gotten petty.” He stepped directly in front of her. “I am trying to stop a war. A war that your brother seems intent on. As for being bitter…” He turned his head and lifted his chin so that she could see the thick scar that snaked below his collar. “You have no idea what I have cause to be bitter about.” “So what, then? You decided to carve out your own little niche of power here in the Empire while the rest of the galaxy falls apart?” She stopped, then threw her hands to the side as she exclaimed, “Force, Jag. The Empire?” “Yes, Jaina, the Empire. An Empire of stability and order. Of peace and prosperity. Not the horror of Palapatine’s, and not the terror into which your brother is turning the GA. I believe in this, Jaina. If I can bring peace to a portion of this forsaken galaxy, I’ll do it. If there is any hope left I can give these people, I’ll give it. And your precious Force had better help your brother or any other individual so foolish enough as to get in my way.” Jaina snorted. “Save the speeches for the holonet. I know you better than that, Jag.” He locked his eyes on hers. “Do you, Jaina? Really?” The gaze last for what seemed like an eternity, even though it was only a few moments. Jag spoke again. “Why are you here, Jaina?” “I’m here because I…” Her bravado broke and she looked away. “I don’t know why I’m here.” “Yes you do. You’re the only one who could.” “I had to know. I had to see if anything…was left.” Without a word, Jag moved to the viewport. He stared up at the sky silently. For as much as she was tempted, Jaina didn’t dare reach out to him with the Force. “Jag?” “Jaina…I can’t. I’m solely responsible for the lives of billions of individuals. I have neither the time nor the energy to waste on what has proven to be a useless exercise.” He didn’t face her as he spoke. Jaina had to blink away a sudden rush of tears. It was no more than she expected- no more than I deserve, she thought- but it still hurt. The minutes stretched between them. Jaina couldn’t take it anymore. She moved over to where Jag stood, staring out the viewport. Tentatively, she reached out a hand and placed it on his shoulder. “Jag?” she questioned. Before he could respond, the doors burst open behind them. Davert rushed in, moving to Jag’s desk without even looking toward them. “Sir, there’s been an explosion at the spaceport.” Jag crossed the room in five steps. “What?” “I was speaking with our security team accompanying the moffs. Apparently, the explosion was only a precursor. A good portion of the spaceport is inaccessible. Whoever it was knew where to place the explosives. And they may still be inside.” “How did this happen? You set up those plans yourself.” “Yes, sir, I know.” Davert shook his head while continuing to check for updates on the holonet. “Sir.” His tone had changed, however slightly. For the first time, he looked directly at Jag. “There are hostiles inside. GA Loyalists. They're so going down...but their involvement will give the characters J/J(who cannot see quite as clearly as us readers yet:);), let's face it!) time to mull things over and come to the right conclusions ! 	Since reading your Casablanca story I've been itching to get to this. And finally, I've found some free time to do so. I'm so glad I did. From the first chapter I was in love with the story. Your Han and Leia have had me cracking up the whole time. I adored the scene with Kyp/Jaina because I can so see Kyp letting her go and staying until there was nothing left he could do. Davert. Love him. Though I will tell you I was worried that he was Lumiya's guy on the inside. But if he was, then Jacen would know his parents were taken to see Jag. That he doesn't, holds out my hope that he's a good guy. I really liked how you promoted Jag as the Grand Admiral of the Empire. His ideals for this government fit his character and he'll be a grand leader. Glad to see the extraction of his family went well. I'm worried for them in Profic, really. That was so awesome for the reunion of Jag and Jaina. Of course it wouldn't go well, but at least Jag hadn't thrown her out or shot her. Looking forward to more of this story BBE. It's definitely going on my 'watch' list. Oh and by the way. I actually came here because you had said in your other story that it was easier to do Casablanca because the story was basically already laid out. And you thought you couldn't do your own story. You were wrong. This is a great story and I'd really like to see how close you come to the mark when the rest of LOTF comes out. It's really interesting to look at the characters with a critical eye and really think how they would respond to the situation. Honestly, I'm taking a lot of the background psychology from the American Civil War, with good people on both sides trying to figure out just where their loyalties lie. Davert. Love him.
