And here is Chapter 10. If you need me, I'll be hiding in that bunker over there.

----------

Chapter 10

“How many?” Jag asked.

“Unknown.” Davert returned his eyes to his datapad. “They disabled all the surveillance in the VIP hangar. But we’re assuming at least four or five.”

He reached over and plugged his datapad into a port on Jag’s desk. Instantly, a red wire schematic of the spaceport was displayed in the air in front of them.

“The charges were placed at strategic locations. All exits have been blockaded except for this one, here,” Davert said, indicating a specific point on the hologram. “We can’t get a clear read on how many men they have inside, but our troops that tried to move in were shot at. What we do know is that they have a good portion of our leadership trapped in that section” He waved his comlink around a little. “They told us so.”

“Who do we have in command at the scene?”

“Your brother, sir. Captain Fel was at your family’s yacht in another part of the spaceport. He commed me as soon as it happened. I put him in charge.”

“Your brother?” At Jaina’s exclamation, both men started. They had clearly forgotten she was in the room. Looking her direction, Jag noticed that the Solo’s had also come back in at some point. He wasn’t sure how much of the conversation they had heard, but the confused looks on their faces were enough to tell Jag that they had definitely heard that last statement.

Han recovered first. “Isn’t he dead?”

Jag was too absorbed in the hologram in front of him to take offense. “Not him, the other one,” he responded absently.

Davert’s comlink chirped. He listened to it for a moment. Murmuring his assent, he shut it off and turned to Jag. “Sir, not to be a pest, but these men do still want to talk to you and I don’t think they are quite content with your brother acting as your message service.”

“Right. I will speak to them, but not until I get to the spaceport.”

“Are you sure that’s wise? Whoever these people are already have the moffs. Now you want to offer yourself, the Supreme Commander, up on a platter?”

“We’ve had this conversation before, Bron. What makes you think the outcome will be any different in this particular instance? Besides, you will be there to worry over my safety for me.”

Davert sighed. “Wonderful. Just what I was hoping to do with my day.”

Just as Jag and Davert crossed the threshold into the outer office, Jaina called out to them. “I’m coming with you.”

Jag stopped and turned to level a glare in her direction. “May I ask why you think so?”

She stared back defiantly. “It never hurts to have a Jedi around.”

“And two Jedi are even better,” Leia said, moving to stand by Jaina.

“You’ll forgive me if I’m not convinced of that,” Jag replied without emotion. He glanced toward Han. “And I’ll suppose you’ll say that a Corellian is always good in a fight.”

“Nah. You can handle this one. I’m only tagging along because this idiot,” he jerked a thumb toward Davert, “left the Falcon there. I want my ship back.”

----------

Something about the scene at the spaceport struck Jaina as odd. Maybe it was the brightness of the scene- the gleaming white of the storm trooper armor against a gleaming blue sky. Maybe it was the lack of damage at the scene- had it not been for the gathering of personnel and a thin line of smoke rising into the sky, she would have been hard pressed to notice that anything was wrong. Maybe it was the lack of panic she felt- reaching out with the Force, she encountered none of the fear and terror that she usually associated with such events; instead, all she felt was a controlled tension.

Before the armored speeder had come to a complete stop, Jag was out the door. Davert was not far behind. Sparing her parents a glance, she followed.

Immediately, Jaina raised a hand to shield her eyes. She scanned the scene looking for the two officers, finding them almost quickly, talking to a third man that she didn’t automatically recognize. Something about him seems familiar, though, Jaina thought. But I’d know if I’d seen him before. She looked closer. It’s something around the eyes and nose.

Jag must have mentioned something about her presence her, as the unidentified man swung around to stare directly at her. She was close enough now to get a good look at his features. She closed her eyes briefly, trying to figure it out. When she opened them, still looking at the staring man- it hit her. A younger Wedge Antilles. He looks kinda like a younger Wedge Antilles.

That meant he had to be Jag’s brother. The brother that he hadn’t seen fit to ever mention during the whole time that they were dating.

By now she was close enough to overhear their conversation.

“We’ve got a live feed from inside. This seems to be the man in charge,” Jag’s presumed brother said. “Intel identified him as Endran Jeandro, 26, a native of Entralla. He joined the GAG as soon as it was developed. He’s a radical…doesn’t much care for the Empire as such.”

“Let me speak to him.” Jag commanded.

“Of course. He’s on the comm.”

As soon as he finished speaking, the stranger turned to face Jaina, an odd look on his face.

“So you’re Jaina Solo.” It was a statement not a question.

“Yeah. And you are…” Jaina left the question hanging between them.

“Cem Fel,” he said, offering nothing more.

There were a whole host of questions racing through Jaina’s mind, but she couldn’t seem to settle on which one to ask. Instead, she simply stared at him. He returned the favor.

The silence was broken by a crack of static and the sudden appearance of a man on the screen situated behind Cem.

“Admiral Fel. So nice to see you.”

“You’ll forgive me for not sharing the sentiment. Let’s get right down to it. What do you want, Jeandro?”

The man on the screen actually laughed, although it didn’t reach his dark eyes. “If you know who I am then you know what I want.”

“I am going to ask you one, and only one more time. What do you want?”

Jeandro sighed. “It’s simple. I want you to renounce our withdrawal from the GA.”

“Why?” Jag’s question was short and clipped.

“Why? You actually ask why?” Jeandro moved closer to the camera. “Because I don’t want my family to live in tyranny. Because I don’t trust them-” a hand gripping a blaster briefly flashed over the screen, pointing presumably to where the moffs were being held, “to be anything but self-serving and traitorous. Because I don’t trust you, what with your fancy speeches and high ideals. You’re nothing but a pale imitation of Palpatine. You grab for power only to say it was handed to you. Is that enough reasons or should I go on?” By this point, Jeandro was screaming into the holocam.

Jag stood unruffled. “No.” It was an answer to both Jeandro's question and demands.

Taking a deep breath to calm himself, Jeandro motioned to someone outside the view of the holocam. “That’s what I figured you would say. So I’m going to let you talk to one of your closest advisers and see if he can get you to change your mind.”

The screen went dark. Jag whirled around to face Davert and Cem. “Suit up. We’re heading in.”

Davert walked back to the speeded they had arrived in and began strapping on a modified form of stormtrooper armor he retrueved from a back compartment. As he was buckling the plates over his legs, Han came up and stood over him.

“So what are you, Special Forces?”

Without looking up, Davert replied, “Intelligence, actually. In addition to being Commander Fel’s political attache.”

“Does he know?”

At this question, Davert looked up. His look was all the answer Han needed.

“How did you know?” Davert asked, with real curiosity in his voice.

“Kid, nobody sends a politician to Tatooine by themselves and expects them to come back alive.”

Any further conversation was halted by the snap of static signifying that Jeandro was back on the comm. Jaina turned and was stunned by the picture. A brief sweep through the Force told her that everyone else was just as surprised, although it was not detectable in the carriage of those around her. On the screen was the image of former Imperial Admiral Gilad Pelleaon, with the barrel of a blaster clearly visible pressed against his temple.

It took a moment for Jag to be able to speak. “Admiral.” His voice was a little hoarser than usual.

“Jagged. So nice to see you. Tell me, how did you chat with our visitors go?” The old admiral’s voice held no trace of fear, not even of irritation.

Offscreen, Jeandro’s voice cut off any reply Jag may have made. “No chatting. Tell him.”

Admiral Pelleaon sighed. “Apparently age carries no privileges. Very well. Jagged, he wishes for me to tell you to renounce the withdrawal of the Empire from the GA and beg for re-admittance. However, this unfortunate young man does not know much of me if he believes I will actually do that.” The barrel of the blaster jabbed deeper into his temple. “Jagged, I will tell you this. Lead. Build the Empire we deserve. Do what needs to be done, regardless of the consequences. Let my greatest legacy be having chosen you to follow me. Then my death will have meaning.”

He half turned toward the unseen man holding the gun. “We both know that you will have to kill me now. Neither I nor Admiral Fel will ever do what you ask and if you don’t kill me after your rather crude threat, you lose all credibility and bargaining power.”

Jeandro’s voice again flooded the comm. From his proximity, it was clear that he was the one holding the gun. For the first time, his unsure tone betrayed his relative youth. “Don’t make me do this, Admiral. I’ve always admired you. You were the one who brought us into the GA.”

“A move I now regret. My entire life I have sought what is best for the Empire. Whether by my life or death, I serve her. Granted, this is not the way I would have preferred. But now I am going to have to ask you to either pull that trigger or allow me to go my way.”

Jeandro stepped into view. “Fel, I’m giving you one last chance. You can stop this now.”

“No,” was Jag’s resolute answer.

“Then his death is your fault.”

“No its not. My death will on your head alone.” The white haired admiral held himself proudly. “Now either pull the trigger yourself or hand the weapon to someone who will. I have no desire to die by the hands of such a lesser man.”

The struggle was clear on Jeandro’s face. Jaina held her breath. She glanced toward Jag. While his face was stone cold, there was anguish in his eyes. Just from their experiences in the Vong War, she knew how much he admired the revered admiral. She could only imagine how much that admiration had grown during their time serving together these past few years.

On the screen Jeandro reached his decision. With only a moment’s hesitation, he pulled the trigger.

Enjoy!

A noble, tragic end for our dear Palleaon. He deserved a peaceful retirement, but may he rest in peace knowing the Jag will look after his people. *sniff*

It’s time to send in the Jedi, Jag. cowboy

A noble, tragic end for our dear Palleaon

It's only fitting. I've always seen him as something of a noble and tragic character

He deserved a peaceful retirement, but may he rest in peace knowing the Jag will look after his people

That's true. devil But there was another reason he had to die. A very important, central to the plot reason...

It’s time to send in the Jedi, Jag

Well, if you don't have a Texas Ranger or Jack Bauer, then I suppose a Jedi will have to do cowboy

Lyne: Thanks!

Another update!!!! You're my hero!!!!! grin

Alright, on to chapter 10 review:):

Chapter 10

Has it been 10 already????

“How many?” Jag asked.

Didn't you listen, Jag??? 10!!! whistling Sorry, me being serious again. Never mind.

“Your brother?”
“Isn’t he dead?”
Jag was too absorbed in the hologram in front of him to take offense. “Not him, the other one,” he responded absently.

Ouch! beatup It's hard to hear someone so young respond like that, even if it was just an absent reply. Maybe even BECAUSE it's a casual reply. worried He SO needs someone to love..... thinking

“And I’ll suppose you’ll say that a Corellian is always good in a fight.”
“Nah. You can handle this one. I’m only tagging along because this idiot,” he jerked a thumb toward Davert, “left the Falcon
there. I want my ship back.”

laugh Count on Han to lighten up the situation. love One just HAS to love him.

“So you’re Jaina Solo.” It was a statement not a question.
“Yeah. And you are…” Jaina left the question hanging between them.
“Cem Fel,” he said, offering nothing more.

rolling_eyes Okay, Jaina, better get used to it. It's a very talk-active family. They hardly ever stop, letting people in on their feelings, sharing their backgrounds or even their thoughts. It's genetic.
confused Just not sure if it's male genes in general or the Fel ones tongue

“Because I don’t want my family to live in tyranny. Because I don’t trust them-” a hand gripping a blaster briefly flashed over the screen, pointing presumably to where the moffs were being held, “to be anything but self-serving and traitorous. Because I don’t trust you, what with your fancy speeches and high ideals. You’re nothing but a pale imitation of Palpatine. You grab for power only to say it was handed to you. Is that enough reasons or should I go on?”
Jag stood unruffled. “No.” It was an answer to both Jeandro's question and demands.

Wow! Powerful scene, loved the coldness or coolness with which Jag responded. Awesome! applause

Perfect show of how he's cool and controled during the 'diplomatic interactions' and what's going on behind the mask. Jag in action! I wouldn't want to be the bad guy once things start moving... cool

He half turned toward the unseen man holding the gun. “We both know that you will have to kill me now. Neither I nor Admiral Fel will ever do what you ask and if you don’t kill me after your rather crude threat, you lose all credibility and bargaining power.”

OMG! Just grand!!! Really gut clenching, breath holding moment of suspense...and dread since he's right. Awesome work! applause

“No its not. My death will on your head alone.” The white haired admiral held himself proudly. “Now either pull the trigger yourself or hand the weapon to someone who will. I have no desire to die by the hands of such a lesser man.”

shock cry worried cry

Loved it! I mean...I'm sad that you killed off the Admiral but...WHAT A WAY TO GO!!!! He'll be a legend now even more than he was before. applause

I can't wait to read more! Can't wait to see some a**** being kicked! Jag in action will be awesome! And just in case he needs a shoulder to cry on...if Jaina is busy...I'm still here batting ?

Love,
can't wait for more,
Alexxa

What a riveting chapter. I had to read it twice so I could aptly respond.

“We’ve had this conversation before, Bron. What makes you think the outcome will be any different in this particular instance? Besides, you will be there to worry over my safety for me.”

Davert sighed. “Wonderful. Just what I was hoping to do with my day.”

Yes. It's official. I'm totally in love with your OC. Yeah I know. I have issues. tongue

That was such a great scene. And I just love Han's quick witted response. laugh
