Moments In Time (LotF AU: One Shot) Jaina, Jag
Title:
Moments in Time: Night Sky
Author:
jaina_clan_solo
Timeframe:
LotF AU
Characters:
Jaina Solo, Jagged Fel, Yoda
Summary:
Two people in two very different places stop to wonder at the beauty of the night sky.
Notes:
This is a short viggie set in my
Leading Blade
timeline many years before that story takes place. I believe that it can also stand alone.
It was one of those rare clear nights, completely unobscured by the humid steam that rose lazily up from the swamps. The various species of wildlife were oddly quiet, as though in awe of the stars twinkling through the atmosphere. A chilled breeze wafted between the trees rustling all of the leaves in its path.
The reflected light from the moon shone down, hazy silver streams making paths through the crowded foliage. It easily lit the worn path fighting to not sink back into the overgrowth. A single figure emerged from the dilapidated hut that blended into the swamp surrounding it. She tied her hair back in a quick knot as she moved out from underneath the towering trees.
Jaina Solo looked up at the night sky, smiling up at the stars she loved so much. It was strange to think she was now well into her second year living here on Dagobah. Two years without feeling the hum of engines around her, two years without flying through those glittering stars. Two years since she had left behind everything she had ever worked toward.
A single glittering star traced a lonely path along her cheek. Reaching up hastily, Jaina brushed away the tear. She did not regret her decision; leaving the Jedi Order had been the only path open that allowed her to remain true to herself.
“Alone, you feel,” the ghostly voice broke harshly into the silence of the night. “Alone, you are not.”
“Yes, Master,” Jaina replied in a voice hushed from disuse. The glowing form that accompanied the voice appeared in the path. The small form of Jedi Master Yoda hunched over his gimmer stick, and object which had followed the wizened creature into the mystery of the Force. Or perhaps it was merely how Yoda chose to appear to Jaina. She did not give it any more thought, there were more important things to concern herself with.
The stars pulled her gaze upward as she knelt down in the soft ground. Jaina had long ago trained herself to ignore the constant dampness. The distant gaseous orbs continued their serene dance through the galaxy; each one oblivious to the turmoil deepening in the Force. Each sun blissfully ignorant of the discontent brewing amongst sentients everywhere.
A cloud drifted through the sky, followed by more of its kind. Once again Dagobah hid itself from the prying eyes of distant worlds. Content with her short glimpse at the galaxy around her, Jaina centered herself back in the present.
Turning once more to Yoda she asked, “What will you teach me tonight?”
****
The air was cold and dry, for any moisture that came in contact with the frigid night froze immediately. A thick layer of snow and ice covered the ground, crunching beneath the footsteps of any who traversed the barren landscape. Other than the noise of the shifting snow, there was little to be heard. Few motorized vehicles made it out this far. Animals were rarely heard, and seen even less frequently on Csilla.
Lights from the scattered habitations reflected across the white surface creating glimmering paths that looked deceptively warm. Not that anyone who had made their home on this world was bothered by the cold. Jagged Fel simply pushed his gloved hands deeper into his jacket pockets and tucked his face further beneath the scarf he was wearing, it would be sufficient to keep the chill away until he entered the building ahead.
Out of the corner of his eye, Jag saw a brief flicker of light. He turned to catch a glimpse of what it was; and saw only the clear starry sky. Most likely the light had been a ship coming in for landing, or a small meteorite burning up in the atmosphere. It was unusual for him, as a pilot to notice such things. Space and its myriad phenomenon became commonplace after logging so many hours in the cockpit. Yet tonight, the expansive sky stopped him in his tracks.
It was a beautiful sight to behold, the stars large and glittering in the clear night air. Some combination of the cold temperatures and distance from the galactic core granted Csilla with one of the most striking nighttime panoramas that he had ever seen. For a fleeting moment Jag wished that
she
was here beside him, sharing this.
He shook the ghostly whisper of a memory away, and turned back toward his path. That was in the past; and his present did not contain Jaina Solo. Tonight was not the proper time to search out possible futures that might include her. Tonight he was celebrating his sister’s marriage, and Jag would permit nothing to mar the occasion.

A little confusing, but I totally think LOTF Jaina should learn from the dead masters like Yoda.
I like the 'you feel alone but you're not'.
Oh, and Yay J/J!

Very romantic scene, with both of them looking to the stars with thoughts of the other. Quite beautiful, and something I've spent many a night doing as well. It's nice to see that romantics win in the end.
Great job with Yoda. I could seriously get into watching her train with the masters on Dagobah for a long time, but maybe I've just watched ESB too many times.
Great story as always
Thanks for the PM.

Very interesting
Having both characters admiring the nightsky while thinking of the other was a neat way to draw a connection between them, and I really liked the idea of Yoda training Jaina

Thank you very much for reading! J/J is
I think that Yoda would have a lot to teach Jaina... she could really tap into her full potential under their guidance.

I'm very glad that you liked this.
I love staring up at the stars, they really are beautiful. Good point about the romantics
Perhaps I shall have to do more with the training on Dagobah at some point.

Thank you, I'm glad that you enjoyed reading. And no matter how far apart they are, they're still connected by a love of the same galaxy. I really enjoy thinking about the possibilities of Jaina being trained by Yoda.
thank you all for reading and reviewing.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone!
