RE: The Making of an Emperor (canon speculation NJO-LOTF: Jag & J/J): New Post Feb 6th!!
I'm really enjoying your Jag - he has such verisimilitude.
And I always enjoy writing that really gets into the workings of a character - I find that very satisfying.
Thanks for the info on Formbi earlier.
I have started the DN books, but am not very into the story yet. Need more hours in the day to get everything I want to get done. LOL
I like what Jag said about Pellaeon - he has such inegrity that man. Makes some of the GF crowd look bad anyway.
Interesting to see if Karri gets what she's after.

Karri's getting no love around here!
She
might
be a perfectly lovely woman, but she has a major stike against her right off. (Besides...she should really keep her hands off Jag!
How pushy can she get?)

Oh I really enjoyed that chapter...
If for no other reason than it shows just how damned smart Jag really is...
Of course he would be able to figure out the pilots...To bad he couldn't figure that Jacen would do what he did...
Fantasic as always....

I have got to stop doing this! I read, I get distracted, I think I already replied so I move on. . . Where's a headbanging icon when you need one?
Chapter Four
“I’m grateful not to have enemies like that.”
“Yet.”
Anybody can go thru life and not make any serious enemies. It takes serious talent to make it to that level
“Princess Leia called your mother the very next day after you asked them for Jaina’s hand. They were so excited.”
We all were. Would've been. Whatever
As for the rest, I HATE it when parent's interfere. I'll probably be the most controlling parent ever though
And concerning the new job, well, I've never been sympathetic towards the Killiks. Squash the bugs Jag!!
Chapter Five
“The Skywalkers almost certainly will find a way to ask you about the Empire of the Hand. They make a habit of asking too many questions.”
But not always the correct ones.
“Luke Skywalker is too trusting for his own good.”
His best trait and Achilles heel.
“You’re preparing as though the truce is certain to fail.”
“It is.”
DOOMED from the START! I'm glad Jag saw this and made such excellent use of it
Poor Jag. That transmission would've been easier to take if it was somebody else informing of her death. The winds of fate made Jag bow that day but they didn't break him.
Chapter Six
Since when does throwing yourself at an intelligent, dedicated, driven guy get his attention?
Karri is starting to smack of desperation, we all just *know* Jag loves that in his girls
“Retaliate.”
Squash the bugs! Squash the bugs! Whoops, sorry! Personal involvement getting away from me there

I hate Karri, but that's just the woman in me talking. As a character she's all right. I just don't like anyone infringing on my J/Jness, but then again she must be pretty awesome if Jag's taking a shine to her.
Or am I feeling very Druish about this whole relationship?
No matter, great post. I like how you're tying this all back to canon, and making all the different stories work. You have a great sense of how POV storytelling can be tainted and not quite the whole truth. Some people read character POV way too literally, but it's hardly ever the straight facts, is it?
“No,” she insisted, tugging him by the hand as she headed up the steps toward the exit at the back of the amphitheater. “Now, come on. You’ve been hiding in here all day. The least you can do is have dinner with me before you start a war.”
“Actually,” Jag said, staying rooted in place, “the least I can do is go off and start the war, and leave you to dine alone.”
Two steps up the aisle, Karri peered down at him. “True. And the least I can do is –”
“No need to elaborate.” Jag climbed the first step. She took his cue, and they walked up together. “The war can wait a few more hours.”
“Smart move.”
“Besides, I haven’t eaten since this morning.” They were almost to the back of the room, and he released her hand to reach for the door panel. He hit the button, and the door slid open. “As a wise man once said, never begin hostilities hungry.”
“Who said that? Thrawn?”
“No. Me.”
“You’re an idiot,” she muttered, and strode out into the bright corridor.
I would have called him a Smart CSA, but that's just me.

RE: The Making of an Emperor (canon speculation NJO-LOTF: Jag & J/J): New Post Feb 6th!!
Ok.
This is my favourite segment of this story so far.
This is the scene I wanted so badly to happen in the books - for Jag to figure out something was up.
I could see this whole scene so vividly - Jag be so absorbed by it & staring at a screen that barely showed anything.
“This is Jaina Solo.”
Karri glanced over at him. “How do you –”
“Trust me. It’s her.”
I could hear him saying that. And he'd know. Of course he'd know.
“She’s not flying lead in her trio.”
“There isn’t a single Jedi Knight in the entire Order with more combat flight or squadron command experience than Jaina. But she’s deferring to someone.”
Now you see... that's when the trouble happens... When Jaina doesn't fly trio lead, bad things happen. I think everyone needs that as a bumper sticker on their fighters. Although in the two instances I'm thinking of, who actually was flying lead might have been just as much the problem as the fact that it wasn't Jaina.
...her hand reached out to squeeze his knee...
My first reaction was to get defensive. But then I thought.... this is Jag Fel... who can really blame her?
And I think it helps a bit that he's just so lost in trying to figure this other stuff out that he doesn't really notice.
“I know these Jedi personally, Karri. And they’re friends of Jaina. They don’t do things this way.”
I'm sure it's happened before somewhere, but it just seems weird - knowing the "enemy" so intimately. Poor Jag. All alone on his side watching the people he used to fight along side with in another light. There's just something sort of out-of-body about that.
I'm not sure if you meant it intentionally, Lex, but Karri and Jag's exchange at the end highlighted their age/life experience difference rather well I think. She's just not quite on the same page as him, but she's trying to catch up.
Chapter Seven (37 ABY) next week… And what happens on Tenupe might not be what you expect.
I have my theories on this myself... and ideas on what I'd like to have happened... so I'm eager to read what yours is.
Fantastic post,
Lex
! I really really liked it.

OJN
:
Whoa. You *grabbed* my attention right away with Jag studying the vids. That would be something he'd do--analyze the situation until he figured it out. Very real.
Thanks. I thought it seemed very Jag to me. Besides, I don’t think you get command of your own squadron at 18 unless you’ve got a work ethic to match some serious smarts and talent.
I'm beginning to wonder whether
Nah, nothing devious. She just wants some of that CSA, too
Excellent -- mean and evil -- but excellent!
Mission accomplished, then.
obsessedwithSW
:
Hussy! keep your hands off of Jag!
Now tell me what you really think.
The third pilot was Jacen, right?
Yes.
TKL
:
Anybody but Karri?!?!
Don’t you mean - Nobody but me!
(If it’s not Jaina.
)
Okay that part is just bloody brilliant! Jag wants to be exiled. It works well in canon, especially in light of what we know about Thrawn and Soontir's history.
I think Jag is way too smart a tactician to get “accidentally” exiled. If the canon authors are serious about the exile (as opposed to it just being a cover story for something else), I think they’ll do something along this line once we see Jag’s POV again.
Your mind is detailed oriented to the point I have trouble keeping up with canon this and canon that, but when I do catch up each time I'm continually amazed at the level of detail you've invested in this story.
Thanks!
It should get easier when we get to the LOTF part of this story. The canon frontstory is less complicated so the backstory is easier too.
As a character she's all right. I just don't like anyone infringing on my J/Jness
Now the truth comes out.
but then again she must be pretty awesome if Jag's taking a shine to her.
Or maybe subconsciously he’s lashing out at Jaina even worse than he realizes…
Some people read character POV way too literally, but it's hardly ever the straight facts, is it?
It happens all the time in real life. Two participants in a conversation can have very different perceptions of the one another’s state of mind and intentions. If you only talk to one of them, you don’t have the full picture. Good authors use that same trick in fiction, too, because character’s perceptions and internal monologues can be just as inaccurate as our own.
I would have called him a Smart CSA, but that's just me.
And he’d deserve it, too.
Chimpo
:
if Tenupe is different it won't be the same
What makes you so sure of that?
And Karri better keep her hands away or someone might hurt her
The ladies are very protective of their Jag, aren’t they?
Tah
:
And I always enjoy writing that really gets into the workings of a character - I find that very satisfying.
Me too. Until the profic authors finally let go of the Big Three/Four and give the younger generation their due (‘bout time, in my view
), the profic books are juggling so many characters they can’t really delve too deeply into any one of them. Even Jacen’s mindset in LOTF so far, over three books, still probably has less pagetime than his grandfather’s motivations in Stover’s ROTS alone.
So I figure, why not use fanfic to fill in some gaps for Jag (and Jaina).
I have started the DN books, but am not very into the story yet.
The bugs plotline didn’t really grab my interest, either. I think Denning did some really interesting and powerful things in the trilogy with a lot of the characterizations – but the Killik aspect of it detracted from my enthusiasm. Unlike
Tempest
, which I couldn’t put down and stayed up until 2 AM to finish reading. Take the hint, Troy!
I like what Jag said about Pellaeon - he has such integrity that man. Makes some of the GF crowd look bad anyway.
Definitely. Makes a lot of real world leaders (of all political persuasions) look pretty bad, too.
Lyne
:
Karri needs to get lost.
Another member of the fan club, I see.
Auntie
:
She might be a perfectly lovely woman
True. Soontir and Wyn seem to like her just fine.
How pushy can she get?
He doesn’t seem to mind…
Flowerlady
:
If for no other reason than it shows just how damned smart Jag really is...
I think he’s that way in canon so far. But if he’s going to end up being Emperor, even more so. Nobody rises into a position like that (as opposed to being born into it) without being a strategic genius on a lot of levels. And Jag doesn’t have the Force, much less a whole set of secret Sith resources and minions, to aid him.
(Not yet, anyway.
)
Too bad he couldn't figure that Jacen would do what he did...
It doesn’t really fit the Jacen who Jag knows from the time they served together during the war (like the Battle of Ylesia). And even more, he knows Jacen is Jaina’s twin. He can’t imagine Jaina ever doing something like that, so Jacen wouldn’t either. But new information could change his perception…
RedGold
:
but so far loving Jag here, you write him perfectly
Thanks!
I think the next post will show some more interesting sides of Jag’s personality and mind.
Shinar
:
I read, I get distracted, I think I already replied so I move on. . .
No worries. I do that to poor Yobi all the time.
Anybody can go thru life and not make any serious enemies. It takes serious talent to make it to that level
Yep. You’re doing something right when people start taking potshots at you.
His best trait and Achilles heel.
Yeah. “Why do I get the feeling you’re going to be the death of me?”
DOOMED from the START! I'm glad Jag saw this and made such excellent use of it
Like I’ve said, it just doesn’t make any sense to me that Jag would have misread the tactical situation that badly. Either the whole Lowie parole story is a lie (and I wouldn’t be at all surprised by that), or Jag arranged the whole thing to earn his disgrace (which is more fun for this story).
Since when does throwing yourself at an intelligent, dedicated, driven guy get his attention?
Heartbreak and vengeance will do interesting things with rebound relationships…
Squash the bugs! Squash the bugs! Whoops, sorry! Personal involvement getting away from me there
No argument from me.
jedi_princess18
:
I like how events up to this point seem to be occurring according to Jag's design - but did he plan to get shot down on Tenupe?
Yes, so far so good for Jag’s tactical planning in the crisis. As for Tenupe, you’ll have to wait and see.
But I think it’s safe to assume Jag would never intentionally get shot down.
Solo_and_Fel
:
This is my favourite segment of this story so far. This is the scene I wanted so badly to happen in the books - for Jag to figure out something was up.
I agree. I think if we’d seen Jag’s POV during TUQ, it would have been something very much like this (at least as far as analyzing the footage). I have to think Troy didn’t show it to us because he’s concealing something about Jag’s allegiance or feelings.
I could hear him saying that. And he'd know. Of course he'd know.
I pulled a little Zahn/Thrawn trick there. We don’t need to know
how
he can identify her flying. Just that he can.
Although in the two instances I'm thinking of, who actually was flying lead might have been just as much the problem as the fact that it wasn't Jaina.
Bingo.
But then I thought.... this is Jag Fel... who can really blame her?
Finally a voice of reason on the matter!
Poor Jag. All alone on his side watching the people he used to fight along side with in another light. There's just something sort of out-of-body about that.
That’s a good description. I would be very surreal, I think.
I'm not sure if you meant it intentionally, Lex, but Karri and Jag's exchange at the end highlighted their age/life experience difference rather well I think. She's just not quite on the same page as him, but she's trying to catch up.
Thanks for noticing!
Yes, it was intentional. Jag is a captain and a very skilled tactician. (And politician, though he may not realize that yet.) Karri is a squadron leader, more like Jag was a decade earlier at the start of the NJO. Not his equal by a long shot. Unlike a certain other female pilot…
Thanks for all the great replies, everyone!
See you on Tuesday for the next chapter.

RE: The Making of an Emperor (canon speculation NJO-LOTF: Jag & J/J): New Post Feb 6th!!
CHAPTER SEVEN
37 ABY, two weeks after the Battle of Tenupe
Rift valley crash site, Tenupe
“Ow.”
Clenching his jaw, Jag pushed with his good leg and rose behind the large boulder. His heavy blaster pistol ready in both hands, he peered over the top. Half a dozen meters away across the rocky terrain of the valley floor, the dense jungle flora rustled. He took aim at the moving ferns and waited.
A moment later two portly, Dimortian boars passed through the leaves, snuffling among the pebbles. Jag fired a single shot, vaporizing a rock near the bigger one. The animals squealed and bolted away into the jungle.
At least it hadn’t been bugs.
Jag growled wordlessly and slid down the side of the boulder to sit back on the ground. He stretched out to check the pneumatic splint on his right leg, which held fractured bones immobilized. The clasps were still tight, the restraints still snug. The device was working fine. It was just the pain that was the problem.
He picked up the medpac and checked his supply of anesthetic hyposyringes. Three left. That would get him through the night, and most of tomorrow. After that…
“Wonderful,” he muttered, and reached for the sealed pack containing his food supply. He rifled through its contents. Three days from now, he’d be starving and dehydrated, too.
Perhaps he should have shot the boar instead of the rock. Maybe they’d come back, though. Or something else edible would. He could hope, anyway.
Regardless, the good news was it had been six days since he’d had to shoot a
Killik
.
As more time passed, it seemed increasingly likely that something had induced the bugs into an organized withdrawal, at least from this part of the planet. If the Chiss forces had defeated the Killiks thoroughly, they would have been able to pinpoint the locator beacon from his EV unit and retrieve him by now. If the Killiks had somehow driven off the Chiss, the bugs would have come back to finish off Jag. So probably it was some kind of stalemate.
Or maybe the fighting was still raging on the ground fronts, and all the bugs in this area had been redeployed elsewhere. If the tide turned against the Chiss, though, the Killiks might return, and in greater numbers. The next thing through the jungle undergrowth might be a bug brigade. Worse, they might bring their brainwashed Joiner Jedi with them. The next thing out of the jungle, he sneered, might be Jaina…
Let her come. She’d tried to shoot him down. He wouldn’t mind a chance to return the favor by trying to gun her down right here and now. Hefting his blaster in his hands, he chuckled grimly. No, he wouldn’t mind that at all.
Not that it was going to happen. Despite what she’d claimed right before she’d fired, she didn’t care whether he lived or died. She probably didn’t even care if she ever saw him again.
Which was fine. At this point, he couldn’t say he cared if he ever saw her again, either.
Without warning a sharp pain tore up his injured leg, and Jag cried out. When the ripping shards of agony stopped, he fumbled for a hyposyringe. He popped off its antiseptic cap in his teeth and jammed the needle heedlessly into his thigh.
“Fraggin’
frag!
” He flung the empty hypo into the jungle. A few seconds later, his leg began to tingle with numbness, and the pain eased.
Jag settled back against the boulder and took a deep breath. His burning resentment aside, he had to give her credit for getting one thing right. Jaina and Zekk had managed to shoot down both of the defoliators. Most of the parasite bombs had been destroyed in midair, and the
Falcon
had been on the tail of the last two when his comm gear failed. The Chiss bioweapon was gone, and their deranged plot had failed.
Not that he was any fan of the Killiks, but annihilating an entire species wasn’t something he could sanction. The Chiss and their twisted sense of justice might not have any objection to erasing an entire civilization from the face of the galaxy just to deal with a few mad leaders, but Jag did. That was the kind of thing Palpatine had done – the kind of strategy that had made Palpatine’s Empire the most reviled government in galactic history. Those weren’t Thrawn’s values, and they certainly weren’t what Jag’s father stood for. No, the Empire of the Hand did not engage in speciecide. Not if Jag had anything to say about it.
His plan to stop them had worked to perfection. Confident she would crack the truth from Commander Baltke one way or another, he had made sure Princess Leia’s interrogator knew of the bioweapon. Then, predictably, she had reached out in the Force and passed along to Jaina the imperative of preventing the defoliators from delivering their payload.
Just as expected, the Solo Jedi had succeeded. They always did.
“That,” he muttered, rubbing his hand along his aching thigh, “might be a problem.”
He wondered if the Solos had any idea just how dangerous Jacen was. Leia’s insistent questions to Baltke had made more than clear she had no idea it was her own son who had sold out to the Chiss – to Jag personally – her presence and intentions at Tenupe. He should have been a suspect, of course, since he was one of only a small number of people who knew the mission details. But like her twin brother, Leia could be too trusting for her own good. She presumably thought her son was incapable of such a despicable act.
But Leia didn’t know what Jag knew. Jacen had his own agenda – and it was very different from the Jedi’s. Jacen, like the Chiss, wanted the Killiks wiped out to the last larvae. Nothing short of complete extermination would satisfy him. Hoping to draw the Chiss into a war of annihilation, Jacen had led the attack at Supply Depot Thrago; although Jag hadn’t actually accused him of that directly during their conversation, he had no doubt Jacen was the mystery Jedi whose actions had so puzzled him. When the Joiner Jedi nearly had intercepted a prototype of the parasite bomb, Jacen had intervened to ensure its destruction. Then, fearing his parents’ mission at Tenupe might succeed and convince the Chiss to enter peace negotiations, Jacen had betrayed them to Jag. His obsession with exterminating the Killiks was so powerful it had led Jacen to risk his parents’ lives, with nothing more than a request that Jag do his best to assure their safety during capture and confinement.
All of it would be disturbing enough coming from anyone. Coming from a man who was supposed to be a Jedi, and, even worse, from a Solo… Jag shuddered.
He remembered all too well that look in Jaina’s eyes at Hapes a decade ago. Those moments when, drowning in grief and rage, she had given herself over to the dark side of the Force. If he could see Jacen Solo now, look into his eyes, would he see that same black fire?
Jag shook his head. It wasn’t enough Jaina had tried to kill him. Apparently even in her absence she was going to haunt his thoughts until she ruined what was left of his life. A few weeks before the battle, Karri had walked away – for good this time.
I can’t keep competing with Jaina
, she’d said.
I can’t go on with this in her shadow, waiting for you to let her go. I can’t measure up, and no woman ever will. Not until you stop obsessing about your little Jedi princess
. Karri was wrong, of course. Jag was over Jaina, long over her. He’d let her go a long time ago. And he certainly wasn’t obsessing about her.
Jaina had tried to kill him. Her parents had shot him down. He didn’t owe those blasted Solos anything. Not even a warning about the threat so close they were blind to it.
“Still loves me, my Corellian behind,” Jag hissed. “You and your demented brother deserve each other.”
A bird cawed, and Jag looked up. More caws, and then a flock of large, dark avians burst from the jungle canopy into the sky. Jag readied his blaster.
Then he heard the undergrowth rustling, and aimed –
Out of the jungle emerged a familiar, welcome sight. The pristine, shining white armor of Imperial stormtroopers. Four of them stepped out onto the rocky slope, scanning the valley with BlasTech rifles at the ready.
“Took you long enough,” Jag called.
The troopers turned to face his direction, paused, and then, in perfect formation, began hustling toward him. A moment later the quartet rounded the boulder to join him.
“Captain Fel,” the squad leader said, tipping his head. “Unit Aurek-Two of the Five-Oh-First. It’s a relief to finally find you.”
“Not,” Jag said, “as big a relief as it is to be found. Although I must say, I expected Chiss.”
“Sorry to disappoint, sir,” the leader said, his clipped military voice all business. “But your father insisted we find you first.”
Jag raised a brow. The last word didn’t escape his notice.
That
was definitely something he would have to ask his father about. “Mission accomplished, then, Sergeant. So, how do we make our speedy exit? Using your superior camouflage?”
Proudly the trooper tapped a finger to his spotless chestplate. “The Five-Oh-First doesn’t need to hide, sir. We’re the –”
“– Fist of the Empire. Yes, yes, I know,” Jag said, chuckling. “Just get me out of here.”
“Not long now, sir,” said the trooper standing guard at the point, glancing over his shoulder at Jag. “The dropship’s already on its way.”

He sat before the communications console and waited for the transmission to connect. Absentmindedly he kneaded a palm into his right thigh. The surgeons and the bacta had made the injuries all but undetectable, but Jag still remembered the pain. He would never forget.
The small viewscreen flickered, and a moment later a familiar face appeared. “Greetings, Jagged,” the old man said. “I trust you are recovered?”
“Good as new, Admiral,” he replied.
Pellaeon nodded knowingly. “They told me that, too, many years ago. And it’s true for the most part. Except that I have my own personal barometer to give me warning when a winter storm is coming on.”
“Then it’s probably a good thing I won’t be on Csilla any time soon.”
“That would be an understatement.” Pellaeon ran a hand over his chin. “Your father informs me the Chiss are none too pleased with your unexpected exit.”
“I imagine so,” Jag said, scowling. “Although I don’t believe for a second it’s really the money they’re upset about. The Ascendancy prides itself on always being in control. They don’t like being subject to the emotional whims of humans – and they certainly don’t like being reminded where the ultimate control lies.”
“Not to mention, the Chiss
hate
being outwitted.” The old man flashed a mischievous grin. “I think that’s why Thrawn always grated on them so much.”
Jag grinned too. “Good company to be in, I suppose.”
“Indeed.”
“So tell me,” Jag said, leaning closer to the viewscreen, “has there been any more contact between the Ascendancy and the Alliance since the armistice?”
“Not a word. Once the Chiss were satisfied with the guarantee of intervention in the event of another Killik attack, they withdrew within their frontier and haven’t been heard from since.”
“Typical,” Jag grumbled.
“The Galactic Alliance leadership is confident the Jedi have resolved the situation. There’s really nothing more they have to say to the Chiss at this point anyway.”
“Fair enough.” Jag shook his head. “The Jedi sure could have saved us all a great deal of trouble if it hadn’t taken them so blasted long to come to their senses about the Killik problem.”
“You’ll get no argument from me on that score,” Pellaeon said, frowning. “When they finally did intervene with strength, they were quite effective. They nearly single-handedly turned the tide at Nickel One, and were instrumental in dealing with the Vratix on Thyferra. And of course Luke Skywalker’s plan succeeded in taking out UnuThul and the two Gorog masterminds who had been the entire problem among the Killiks all along.”
“So it appears, although Lomi Plo is the only one confirmed deceased.”
“You believe Alema Rar is still alive?”
“I don’t believe one way or the other. But when it’s a Dark Jedi involved, I prefer to see a corpse, and cremate it myself.” He sighed. “Under the circumstances, I’d prefer Raynar Thul meet a similar fate. It is simply too great a risk to leave him alive.”
Pellaeon shrugged. “I agree, but the Jedi cannot be reasoned with on that issue. Although I must admit, Luke Skywalker inadvertently did the Empire a welcome favor at Tenupe.”
“How is that?”
“During the battle, I was prepared to deploy Galactic Alliance assets to assist the Chiss. Master Skywalker, however, argued that we should not. He believed it would be better for the Chiss to suffer heavier losses in the battle, so that by being weakened they might become less isolationist after the peace, and rely more heavily on their friends.”
“I have little doubt the Ascendancy will need its allies more than ever after this. But Skywalker has no idea who their real friends are, does he?”
“Not a clue.”
Jag grinned. “Someday, when the Chiss are chastened and the Alliance is humbled, I’ll have to thank him on behalf of the Empire.”
“I think I would pay to see the look on his face when you – Excuse me for a moment.” Pellaeon glanced away briefly as if listening to someone at his shoulder. Then he tipped his head and looked back to Jag. “I apologize. There is always someone clamoring for the Supreme Commander’s time and attention.”
“I can only imagine,” Jag said, waving off the apology. “How much longer do you anticipate this temporary appointment lasting?”
Pellaeon chuckled. “The Alliance officer corps is in greater disarray than I thought. They’re several years away, at least, from fielding a viable candidate for this post.”
Jag raised a brow. “You think Omas will make your post permanent?”
“I will be shocked if he does not.”
“In that case, congratulations, Admiral.”
“Thank you, Jagged.” He smiled. “Now that you are back with the Empire of the Hand, perhaps our paths will cross again soon.”
“I am certain they will,” Jag said, smiling back. “I look forward to it.”
“As do I. Give your father my regards.”
“I will. Best of luck with the Alliance.”
“I will need it. Serve the Empire well.”
Jag saluted crisply, proudly. “I never do anything else.”
Pellaeon tipped his head, and terminated the feed.

Snag!
What's worse than being stranded, injured, and having no idea when you'll be rescued?
The next thing out of the jungle, he sneered, might be Jaina…
Yea... that.
But Leia didn’t know what Jag knew. Jacen had his own agenda – and it was very different from the Jedi’s. Jacen, like the Chiss, wanted the Killiks wiped out to the last larvae.
It makes sense. At the very least, Jacen was on this own agenda during that time... and he still is.
I can’t keep competing with Jaina, she’d said.
I had a feeling that'd happen. Probably another reason why I wasn't too worried in the last post. It's hard to match Jaina.
Jaina had tried to kill him
For a man who is not obsessing, he's said that to himself how many times now?
Ok. I'll admit. I wasn't expecting such a speedy rescue... and by the Imperials. Although with where this stories been going, I should have guessed the Imperial part. Stranded for two years, my wannabe Corellian behind.
“I think I would pay to see the look on his face when you – Excuse me for a moment.”
...Announce you're the new Emperor?
I'll be interested to see what he's really doing in the beginning of Legacy.

And he certainly wasn’t obsessing about her.
Of course not.
Loved the scenes between Jag and Pallaeon. Hopefully will see more of it in canon.

I've fallen way behind on this one
My apologies. I've read chapter 2 now
Waiting in the hallway was a lithe blonde woman about a head shorter than Jag. She saluted crisply. “I hope I’m not interrupting anything important, sir.”
He shrugged. “Sleep is overrated.”
Even sleep with Jaina?
“That is good news. Great news.” Now he was more than just awake. He was sharp. Focused. “At last the Nine Families have seen reality.”
“About that. The Ascendancy is now governed by four families.”
“Which you agreed to accept on what condition?” He had no doubt there was a condition. Or several.
“That the Ascendancy join the Empire of the Hand.”
Interesting
I like the idea of Soontir saving the Ascendancy propelling him to the office of Chief Syndic.
Good post
I'll try and catch up with the others ASAP
