Wonderful update though. I like how you're tying things in. My question though...is how come the Ascendancy is so weak? I mean they're basically cowaring at Jag's feet...surly they wouldn't need to rely on the hand that much would they? Maybe I'm just confused by the situation...could you maybe shed a little more light on it for me?
And Admiral...nice. 
He certainly is intersted in the Solo family all of a sudden...can't wait to see what you do with that next. You've got amazing insight into cannon.

Great chapter...I really like where this is going.
But I agree with everyone else...Considering Leia is the one who shot him down he is suddenly very concerned for her and hers....

Before Soontir could reply, Jag’s comlink trilled with an urgent message. “Duty calls,” Soontir said from the viewscreen. “We’ll speak later.”
“Affirmative,” Jag said
Such warmth
Jag found himself staring at his own reflection in the smooth, polished tile of the refresher wall. His green eyes were bloodshot, his hair disheveled, his skin pale. His body, which slumped limply on the floor in a corner of the small room, trembled with the dry heaves that clenched sharply, painfully, on his empty stomach.
Is this because Zekk acted as though he'd been dating Jag 
Interesting that Jag was setting himself up to be disgraced  I agree with his father, that's very Thrawn  Will be neat to see how that plays out behind the scenes. Also seems pretty clear he's warming up to Karri as a matter of convenience

Jag seems to be enjoying his new role and building the Empire.
I love the explanation for Alma's reappearance and how she escaped. I am glad Jag is still a man of integrity and is concerned for the solos.
I see what Jaina is so attracted to, Force blind and all!

 I like clandestine Jagged Fel the way you write him. Delish!
Skullduggery was exciting in its own way, but for Jag nothing could beat a crisp uniform and the sharp precision of superior military units.

Lex you've done a great job of "explaining" Jag's meeting with the Solos in Tempest!  While I'm really going to miss a new TMOAE post next week, I can appreciate your reasons. No matter what happens with the canon/AU situation, this will remain one of my fav stories!

I really like the idea of Jag steathily buying up star destroyers. That can't be that easy to do.
Jag sat down at the communications console in his cabin, and smiled. Yes, it would definitely be good to be back at Central Command.
Then, finally, he could shave.
Heh. My favourite part. A small detail yet I could see being all gruff making Jag squirm a bit in his own skin.
Sorry for the short review. It's been quite a week. Good post though. Looking forward to when the story returns.

He tapped the button, playing the sequence in slow motion. He followed one of the starfighters with the red dot. “This is Jaina Solo.”
Karri glanced over at him. “How do you –”
“Trust me. It’s her.”
A pause. “She’s not flying lead in her trio.”
“Like I said, it makes no sense.” Jag sped up the playback as the attack runs commenced. “There isn’t a single Jedi Knight in the entire Order with more combat flight or squadron command experience than Jaina. But she’s deferring to someone.”
Awesome I wouldn't have thought of that. Great way of showing Jag there's something not as it seems about the attack on Thargo.
“And the GA’s military leadership is such a disaster that an Alderaan survivor has appointed an Imperial Grand Admiral as the Supreme Commander of their forces.”
I'd never thought of it that way either
“As a courtesy I will inform Pellaeon of my intentions before we launch our strikes. I trust him not to reveal that information to the politicians – or anyone else in the Alliance who might warn the Killiks.”
But Pellaeon tells Kenth Hamner, IIRC. Or it winds it's way back to Hamner somehow Big mistake, Jag 
“No,” she insisted, tugging him by the hand as she headed up the steps toward the exit at the back of the amphitheater. “Now, come on. You’ve been hiding in here all day. The least you can do is have dinner with me before you start a war.”
“Actually,” Jag said, staying rooted in place, “the least I can do is go off and start the war, and leave you to dine alone.”
What a jerk
“Besides, I haven’t eaten since this morning.” They were almost to the back of the room, and he released her hand to reach for the door panel. He hit the button, and the door slid open. “As a wise man once said, never begin hostilities hungry.”
“Who said that? Thrawn?”
“No. Me.”
“You’re an idiot,” she muttered, and strode out into the bright corridor.
Great post, Lex Really enjoying this. I wonder why Jag feels bad if he knew ultimately that Lowie would continue to fight for the Killiks and dishonor him. Did he not see that Jaina would be with him as well, or was there just a part of him that was hoping she wouldn't?

Voz: Not only does it keep my thoroughly enthralled, but being the Jag-fan that I am, it's awesome to see his character as I believe he should be.
Thanks! I’m really enjoying writing Jag’s military commander side – with, now, a touch of undercover operative starting to appear, too.
Despite all that has taken place between the Solos and himself, he will still place every resource at his disposal to dispel this threat. Certainly with Jag there is much more behind this action than simply old sentimental feelings, and I'm interested to see what those reasonings are.
Well, if you look back at the previous chapter, it may be that his reasoning is the other way around. He told Pellaeon he was none too pleased that Raynar was left alive and Alema only presumed dead. He already knew before this scene that Alema was alive, but then he learns of a way to find her. So perhaps his primary motivation is to hunt down (and kill  ) Alema, and protecting the Solos is secondary (because they happen to be her targets). Guess you’ll have to keep reading to find out which way it is…

A few things. A couple chapters back, we had the conversation where Soontir revealed that the Ascendancy needed the Empire of the Hand to save their butts during the Vong war, and Soontir had “convinced” them to join the EOTH as the price. So in my version of things, the Chiss joined the EOTH (not the other way around), which means, ultimately, they take orders from the Fels. Also, in the last chapter we saw Pellaeon’s remark about not committing the GA fleet into the Battle of Tenupe on Luke’s suggestion, so that in being chastened a bit by their heavy losses the Chiss would rely more on their friends after the war. So ironically, Luke’s suggestion has made the Ascendancy more dependent on the EOTH than ever…
And Admiral...nice.
Acquiring a great set of new capital ships for the fleet is good for earning a promotion.

While I do tend to think that Formbi’s mostly a professional liar I did think that his explanation that Jag recognized Jaina’s flying style had a definite ring of truth to it. It’s a testament not just to how well he knows Jaina, but also to his insight as a starfighter commander and tactician. Even way back in Dark Tide: Ruin, after all, he was cunning enough to be able to identify the skill levels of opposing pilots and pick them off in order of talent.

Actually, his “bad feeling” in that scene isn’t about Lowie and Jaina, or his impending exile. That part of his plan has gone exactly as expected. It’s about something else. Or, really, two things.

Offscreen. In the previous chapter he was still a Captain. In the first scene of this chapter, he muses about getting a command position when he’s done with the undercover gig. Turns out, that included a promotion.

Now, the “real” news…
AUTHOR ANNOUNCEMENT
I’ve finished reading Exile. In light of the events and characterizations in the book, I’ve decided to continue with The Making of an Emperor as canon speculation through the events of the novel.
I anticipate three to five posts taking place as “missing scenes” during the LOTF series. It’s probably not a surprise that the first three will account for the events of Betrayal, Bloodlines, and Tempest. Then one or two chapters, I think, to account for Exile. (Which, by the way, gets us past the spoilers period – so I shouldn’t have to clog the thread with too many warnings. )
After that, another four or five chapters from the post-LOTF era, ending with the coronation of Emperor Fel I.
Which should conclude the story around the end of April – well in advance of Sacrifice no doubt making this whole thing AU at the end of May.
See you back as soon as I can…
