Skywalker Legends
Characters: Jacen, Ben, Allana, others
Notes: I’m answering the LegacyChild challenge, but writing an extra one for my friend angel-gidget. It’s also AU to all of LOTF and in sequence.

1. The early summer sky was the color of cat vomit. It was a rare occasion on the ethereal world of Hapes as Ben and Jacen sat across Allana and her friend at their square table.

“Five moves!” grinned the boy as he spun the spinner on their board game. It was rare for Jacen to bring Ben to Hapes, but it was rarer still for his cousin to insist on a game without using the Force.

“Getting addicted?” grinned Jacen as he spun the spinner.

“Yeah,” admitted Ben. The two four-year-old girls grinned slyly. “And I’ll beat you two.”
2. She pushed from room to room, trying to distinguish faces without being distracted by those big pretty eyes, or overwhelmed by the feeling that she didn’t belong. The girl was a Hapan citizen, but not from Hapes and thus nowhere near as pretty the locals. Why did Allana call her here to meet that Ben Skywalker?

“Ah, there you are, Mina.”

Mina turned to see two redheaded figures, both clad in Jedi robes. The woman was Princess Allana, so the man she brought with her must be Skywalker.

“Mina, this is Jedi Knight Ben Skywalker,” grinned the twenty-year-old princess.
3. The siren faded behind her.

“Are you okay?” Ben asked as the duo fled from the blazing remains of Lady Ruana’s mansion.

“Yeah, just not used to running, that’s all,” replied Mina. “I’m a detective, not a cop.”

Ben reached into the Force and sensed that she was understating her condition, for her heart cold potentially explode with further exercise. “I think we’re safe, but you need to stay here. I’ll look for a speeder.”

Before Ben could leave, however, he noticed that Mina was slowly turning blue. She grinned weakly when she met his sweeping gaze. “Don’t worry.”
4. The bracelet was heavy and solid in her hand. It took Mina a minute to snap back to reality. Skywalker had brought his speeder, but in the meantime, she spotted a glint burning more brightly than the rest of the inferno and returned to the mansion to retrieve some sort of jewelry. Then Skywalker came and dragged her away, insisting that she was in no condition to be moving about.

“Good news. We got some evidence.” The voice belonged to Skywalker. Mina opened her eyes to see that she was back on Hapes, in some sort of medbay.

“Great.”
5. The skull moved subtly under the features, the angle of her forehead tilting back, her chin becoming more defined, her jaw stronger.

“Yup, that’s the woman I saw leaving the house right before it blew up,” nodded the twelve-year-old boy who witnessed at least part of the crime. As far as Ben could tell, the kid was being totally honest, neither hiding secrets nor lying outright.

“Thanks, son. You’re a great help,” Ben grinned, dismissing the child. “Your transport’s there.”

Then, Ben turned to the frail young woman at his side. “May I look through your files, milady Mina?”

6. “Good night.”

Ben suddenly felt empty as Mina closed the door to her quarters, leaving him standing alone in the hallway. But why? She was a local forensics professor while he was a Jedi Knight. It could never even begin to work between them.

However, Ben had to admit that there was that odd dynamic between them. She had the sharpest mind in the galaxy while he had the muscles necessary to carry out that mind’s commands. Not only that, but he really liked the way she thought, even if he had to return to Ossus for another mission soon.

7. “Look down,” grinned Mina as she pulled back her chocolate tresses. She was not attractive, but her eyes did hold an infinite volume of ever-changing expressions that never failed to capture Ben’s attention.

“I don’t see anything.” Ben frowned as he tried to look for details in the news holo.

“Not the Holo, Fire-head! The first Skywalker girl since your Aunt Leia,” Mina placed a hand on Ben’s shoulder.

Ben opened his mouth to speak, but for an indefinitely long period, he just couldn’t.

Mina broke the silence. “For the five years we’ve been married, you have not changed.”

8. “It was all really incredible.”

“What was?” asked Ben playfully as his five-year-old daughter and her fellow Jedi trainees danced in circles around him. She always greeted him this way whenever he came home.

“Kale, Master Skywalker!” chirped one of the other girls. Kalen, Allana’s younger brother, was a Jedi apprentice.

“He’s here?”

“We had a buncha bugs here and he told them to go away!” Mara, Ben’s daughter, bounced up and down, leaving her short, dark red hair to wave in the wind.

By the Force, Allana was understating when she told me that her brother was just like Jacen.

9. “It’s not programming, it’s just a natural reaction,” Ben sighed as he explained his previous reaction to his wife’s announcement that their second daughter, who was not Force-sensitive, was to return to Hapes, carry on the family tradition by studying forensics there, and taking on her last name.

“But Daddy, I really wanna go to Hapes. Jedi here always compare me to Mara and if I go back alone, I’ll be able to be myself for a change,” the girl’s plea bordered on the definition of a rant.

Ben sighed, knowing that his daughter, his thirteen-year-old daughter, was right.

10. “Like what? I shot a wolf today and ate it? Ben, you may be a Jedi Master now, but you can’t beat a buncha Hapan kids at plotting,” Jacen grinned at the now middle-aged Jedi that sat before him, helping him to momentarily entertain a myriad of royal children too young to be sent to Ossus for Jedi training. Ben tore his gaze away from his former master and grinned.

“I shouldn’t be gawking at you all like anything. I’m still a Skywalker Jedi, all action, no thinking until the next one comes along.”

“And I thought I’d teach you.”

11. There were more people like the man. Queen Allana’s seven-year-old son gawked in awe as he toured Ossus. He thought that there was only one man like the Jedi who visited Hapes a few years ago, but he was wrong. The place was filled with people who projected very large and comforting presences through the Force. Still, there was something special about that particular visitor to the palace.

As if sensing his grandson’s thoughts, Jacen replied, “Ben was once my student. He’s one of the most special Jedi here---a legend, a man who’s in all of the stories.”

LOL glad the line turned out okay, since the challenge required for me to copy that out of Uglies and I wasn't sure how to work with that.

Woudl anyone else like to make my day and leave a review?

Great job, Sil!! applause
That was a really quick response to the challenge!
I loved it!

My favorite line was...
She had the sharpest mind in the galaxy while he had the muscles necessary to carry out that mind’s commands.
Very poetic!

Again, great job!

Sweet work! It really is a shame that there isn't more fic with Ben n' Jacen. I find those two particularly amusing.

Ben: She says you're a killer.
Mara: We talked about that, Ben. Sometimes I have to kill. Many Jedi Masters do.
