divapilot: They're trying, but it's not going to be easy.
Petra: Yeah, when you've got two major players aboard, it makes it all the less likely the cube's going to go "boom" quite yet.
Jade: The strategy is indeed working so far. But will it continue to? Read on.
Leona: Sounds like a plan to me, too.
FLYSWATTER: Well, the Borg are going to be affected somewhat by the actions Luke & Mara have taken.
Sabriel: Glad you found this, and are enjoying it. I'll make a note to add you to the list.
Okay, here comes the next post. It's a bit late due to storms that swept through SE Wisconsin last night. Even though I've got a surge protector on the comp, I don;t like turning it on with the kind of lightning we had.
"Are you sure that they know what they're doing?" Riker asked as he leaded forward on the tactical station. "Those fighters really can't have the firepower to do any serious damage to the Borg."
"They are warriors," Worf said. "And they know what they're doing. They seek to keep the Borg focused outward, giving their lives if necessary to buy the Jedi time to act."
"Captain?" Troi asked, as Picard fell backward, nearly missing the chair behind him. Riker kept from leaping over the console in front of him, knowing that Troi would have things well in hand. "Worf, target the cube. It's time we took the fight to them."
"With pleasure, sir," Worf said. "Targeting the cube, phasers and a full spread of quantum torpedoes." Six blistering torpedoes sped into space from the Enterprise. Worf followed the torpedoes with a series of surgical strikes, using the Federation flagship's phasers to devastating effect.
"It shouldn't be that easy," Riker said as the phasers blew chunks of the cube into space. "And why aren't they retaliating?"
"Because they don’t know what to do at the moment, Number One," Picard said. "I believe the Skywalkers have managed to take the Borg Queen out of the picture."
"The Queen?" Riker asked. "I thought you said she'd been destroyed."
"I thought she had," Picard said. "But as before, she seems to have had one more card up her sleeve, so to speak. And somehow," the captain added, "I don't think we've necessarily seen the last of her, either."
"She does seem to have the ability to rebound from even the most devastating assault," Data said, turning to look back at the captain. "I believe, however, that we must take advantage of the momentary 'system failure' the Borg appear to be suffering."
"By all means," Picard said. "Worf, let's show the Republic and Imperial forces what a Sovereign-class starship is capable of."
It wasn't only those aboard the Enterprise that noticed the sudden breakdown aboard the Borg cube. The Errant Venture was opening up with her turbolasers, the bright green bolts blasting additional holes into the side of the cube. Ralroost joined in a moment later, and then a smaller section of the cube exploded into multiple pinpricks of light that were quickly extinguished in space.
"That would be the fighters," Worf said as he loosed another spread of quantum torpedoes."
"They can't hold together much longer, Riker said. "Is their any sign that Luke and Mara have gotten out of there?"
"Captain, I'm receiving a message from the Ralroost," Worf said.
"On speakers," Picard said.
"Captain Picard, cease your bombardment of the cube," Kenth Hamner's voice said. "Luke and Mara are encountering some resistance, though they're nearly back to the shuttle."
"And it wouldn't do to wipe out Master Skywalker," Picard said. "Understand, Jedi Hamner, that the Borg are capable of regenerating. Even to the point of regenerating their Queen."
"You're saying that we may have to sacrifice Luke and Mara."
"We may find ourselves in precisely that situation," Picard said. "I hope it won’t come to that, but I won’t let the Borg run rampant through your galaxy."
"I have no problem with that sentiment," Hamner said. "I just don’t want to see the Jedi torn apart because they've lost their leader."
"Then I suggest you encourage Master Skywalker to move as quickly as possible." Picard turned to Data. "How long would you estimate until the cube is functional?"
"Because of the nature in which the previous Queen was destroyed, I cannot say, sir," Data said. "But I would not expect it to take long."

That's all for now. Weather and time permitting, next week's post will be on Friday.
Force be with you,

If the Borg/Queen can regenerate, then how can there be a decisive victory? One that's permanent and means something, beyond we're not fighting today???

They'll have to destroy the cube entirely. Thankfully, it's the only cube in the GFFA. But lose Luke and Mara in the process??

Okay The Queen will rise again. I bet she is going to be one angry Borg with a bone to pick with the Skywalkers. Especially a female that just had her face skewered. Wonder if Mara was able to get rid of all those nanos. Hope she gets checked out because I would hate for her to have difficult times ahead with all those 'little friends' running around inside her. Understand about the lightning. Down here in the south our lightning can get down right scary. Super job and thanks.

Jade_eyes: That's the big problem with the Queen. Just because you kill one doesn't mean that another can't come back to finish the job.
Sabriel: Let's just say that I'm not going to kill off both Skywalkers...yet.
Petra: Yes, it would have been nice if she's stayed dead. But if that were the case. we'd be denied the greatness of her villany again.
Kara: Somehow, I don't think the Queen's going to stay dead this time either.
Mara: They're doing the best they can to get back.
divapilot: If it meant that the Borg would be gone for good, I'm sure that Luke and Mara would agree that their lives are a small price to pay. But let's hope it doesn't come to that.
Clockwork: Probably something along the lines of "Oh, no! We're doomed!"
FLYSWATTER: Mara got rid of all the nanoprobes, believe me.
tannim: Maybe the other Queens will think twice about taking of the GFFA?
Leona: Yup, live in Kenosha. As for the Queen, i'd imagine that she'll be back.
Okay, I wish I had a good excuse for the post being late this week, but I just couldn't seem the post to come out the way I wanted until now.
The cube was hit again, and the tremor that ran through the Borg ship nearly knocked Mara off her feet. She staggered backward, nearly colliding with Luke. "I think that's a hint that it's time for us to get out of here," he said with a smile as he caught her.
"I'm in complete agreement," Mara said. "Any plans for how we achieve that goal?" The corridors of the Borg cube seemed even more maze-like than they had when the Jedi had arrived. Had the Queen been making things easier for them, drawing them deeper into the ship just as a Kessel spider draws its prey deeper into the mines?
"I think we want to go this way," Luke said, the lightsaber in his hand casting an eerie green light in the near-darkness of the cube. He led the way forward, only to find the path blocked.
"I thought that they couldn't operate without their queen," Mara said from behind him.
"Looks like there's enough of a collective consciousness remaining to keep them somewhat together," Luke replied, heading towards the approaching drone and taking it down with a single slice. "Either that, or they've already found a replacement."
"Let's not even think about that possibility," Mara said. "One of them alone was more than enough."
"I quite agree," Luke said. "All the more reason for us to hasten our exit." A pair of struts fell across their path, and Luke hurled them aside with the Force. "I see the shuttle," Luke said. "Trouble is, there's a good-sizedhole in the deck. Looks like what you'd expect from a torpedo explosion."
"And let me guess, there's no easy way over the chasm," Mara said. "Where are all the well placed beams when you need them?" she asked with a smile.
Luke thought about that first crazy escape with Han and Leia, leading the Empire's best troopers on a merry chase through the Death Star. He run into an apparently bottomless chasm there too. In fact, they seemed to be present in every major engagement of his life. There'd been the central core of Cloud City, where a fall had allowed him to escape Darth Vader, but nearly killed him, the open reactor shaft that Vader had thrown the Emperor down…
"I'm stroner in the Force than I was then," Luke said.
"You're not actually thinking of trying to jump across, are you?" Mara asked, edging around him to get a better look.
"Not jump," Luke said. "Or rather, not all the way. I was hoping to have somebody on the other side to catch me partway."
"You're going to levitate me across, aren't you?" Mara said.
"Not if you don't want me to," Luke said with a sigh. "But I don't see any other quick route out of here. And from the way this ship's shaking, I wouldn't count on it holding together too much longer."
"All right," Mara said, realizing that Luke was right. "Let's just hope this works."
"I apologize in advance if it doesn't," Luke said. Then he cleared his mind of all doubt, and reached ut with the Force to pick Mara up. Once he was sure his grip was secure, he floated her out, across the opening. He closed his eyes, a seemingly insane act given what he was doing. But long ago he'd been taught that his eyes could decieve him, and with Mara's life on the line, he wasn't going to risk them playing soime kind of trick on him now.
He lowered her, feeling the contact as her boots met the deck on the other side. Then he let go with the Force, and leapt out, counting on Mara to catch him and levitate him the rest of the way.

More to come next week!

Great updates, sadly I’ve been out of touch courtesy of finals revision. A bit of light relief was required!
Glad to see Luke and Mara fighting their way out still, and it looks like the republic and the federation might win... however I think you may have some more unexpected surprises to come?!? Looking forward to more!
