"Confessions and Collisions" - LotF speculation - Ben/Seha

Title: Confessions and Collisions
Author: Stickster
Timeframe: A few months after "Exile" (LotF speculation)
Summary: People talk. (Come on, it's me, what were you expecting?)
Notes: I was totally enamored with the scene with Ben and Seha, because for once he seemed like a normal kid. And it made me happy. So I wrote another scene with them. And then I wrote a scene about Kyp and his new girlfriend who likes his greasy hair. And then I thought, "Hmm, those two things are kind of related."
And so. Here's the first part! (P.S. I promise I'm not just writing "Landings" again. Haha.)

His quarters were dark, but it hardly mattered—Ben was lying face-down on his bed, in the exact same position he'd been in for the last ten hours. So far, no one had come to check on him—his parents knew better than to try to talk to him, and they weren't worried that he might run away again. Ben had stopped using the Force, again, and without the shielding techniques he'd learned from Jacen, his parents could sense him easily. So could everyone else, for that matter, but Ben just couldn't make himself care.
A voice filtered in from the hall. "Ben?"
The voice was quiet, high. A little bit familiar, but not familiar enough to make Ben sit up. "What?" he said, lifting his head slightly so his voice wouldn't be muffled by his sheets.
"Um, would you let me in?"
Grudgingly Ben walked to the door and looked at the video image on the door. No one was there. "Hello?" he asked.
A girl came into view. "Sorry," Seha said. "I dropped something."
"Oh," Ben said, trying to keep the suprise from his voice. "Well, okay."
The door slid open, revealing the slightly older girl standing behind it. She looked tired—her normally vibrant red hair looked faded, and her skin was even paler than usual.
"Do you feel really stupid?" she asked bluntly. "Because I do."
Ben scratched his head. "Uh," he said. "You can come in, if you like."
She did, crossing to the chair in the corner and taking a seat. "I'm sorry about what happened. You must feel really—betrayed."
He did, of course, but he didn't really want to talk to Seha about it. He was afraid he'd get angry, upset—especially now that thinking about what Jacen would do was useless. Ben really hadn't spent much time around girls, and Seha was pretty and nice, and even if she had been duped, he had too, and he wanted to impress her but he was pretty sure that whining about his cousin wasn't the way to do that.
So, he shrugged.
"You cut your braid off," she said in response.
Ben gingerly touched the spot where the braid had been—he'd almost forgotten he had done that. It felt weird to be without it, he thought, but it was a stupid tradition anyway. He sat down on his bed and shrugged again.
"You used to talk more," Seha observed.
Ben looked at her curiously. "You hardly know me."
Her pretty face reddened, looked away. "I know. But um—I've seen you around, you know. Not that you're here much. You've been pretty busy, but when you're here—you stand out."
Now it was Ben's turn to blush. "I do?"
"Sure," she said. "The younger students all admire you, and you're really good at drills, and I think we're the only two students with red hair." The last part she said with a small smile, one that didn't show her teeth. She has a nice mouth, he thought. His neck felt warm.
And the best part was that she didn't say, You stand out because you're Luke Skywalker's son or even Jacen Solo's apprentice, and that made Ben like her even more. Maybe there were some things about him that were just his. Maybe if Seha could see past his name and his family, other people would, too.
"I feel stupid," he finally admitted. "And I hate that I got tricked, and I hate that my parents were right." Her dark brown eyes were warm when he lifted his gaze to meet hers. She has nice eyes, too, he thought.
"We all got tricked," she said. "And for what it's worth—I'm sorry for the part I had in it."
Ben shrugged again, but this time the gesture wasn't dismissive—it was just the easiest way to make light of the situation. He offered her a small smile. "It's okay. You didn't know."
Seha nodded, apparently satisfied. "So what are you going to do now?"
"Stay here, I guess," he said. "Keep training. I think my dad wants to keep a close eye—"
She grinned teasingly at him and interrupted. "Actually, I meant right now. Because the hot meal in the tapcaf downstairs isn't half-bad today, so I thought we could get some lunch and then spar for a little bit, if you wanted."
Ben's eyes grew wide. "Like a date?" he said without thinking. As soon as the words were out of his mouth all the color drained from his face. Oh please tell me I didn't just say that.
Seha just laughed and stood up, then took Ben's hand and pulled him up. "Come on. The tapcaf closes in twenty minutes."
And even though he wanted to be mad at her for laughing at him—and the Ben of three days ago would have been mad—all he could think as he followed her to the turbolift was, She didn't say it wasn't...

Ahh... this is a sweet start. Very awkard, as kids that age are.
one note: Kyp's hair isn't greasy. He's a little too vain about it in Exile to let it get into that state!

Poor Ben, now he's just like every other guy, confused by girls.  It's good to see him being "normal" for once. Great start.

Not to be repetitive, but awww, this is cute. I like that you show them connecting because they've both been played by Jacen, and how Ben's drawn to Seha because she sees him and not his family. It would definitely make her stand out.

I liked canon Seha, even though she tricked Ben in Exile.

yaaaaaaaay Ben!
I love his character-- though that could be because it's where Allston can let go of the preconcieved tenseness of all the other characters and just chill.
