Council, formed by the legendary Jedi Master Luke

Skywalker, has sent a Jedi Knight to the planet Tatooine

Chapter 1

The desert sands of Tatooine were scorching by mid-day. The two suns were beating down unrelentingly. Only those who were native to Tatooine had the resistance to endure the heat. Visitors would not be able to withstand the heat for long periods of time. Many humans, who had not grown up on Tatooine had to keep covered. Walking through the city were your average scum and villains. The rotten smell of exhaust from speeders and the different animals was very discomforting, especially to visitors. Hundreds of giant beasts could be found roaming through the dusty streets. There were many hooded people or species in the city of Mos Eisley, so walking around in a hooded robe—and trying to keep inconspicuous—was easy.

A hooded figure drifted between the crowds as swiftly as the wind, unseen.

As the figure passed a doorway leading to docking bay 12, a hooded, slug-like alien stepped out from the shadows. It’s wobbling yellow eyes focused on the other figure and with its slimy right arm brought his communicator up to the tiny slit below its two nostril holes. It radioed its status in its native tongue and followed after its target.

The first figure continued on his way, either unaware of his trailer or deeming it to be of little threat. The fact was that he too was following someone. By the outfit he was wearing, it was clear that he was a smuggler or a space pirate of some sort. His ragged, short-sleeved uniform-looking suit seemed as if it had been through a lot of use.

In his hands was a metal case which he carried using the handle on the top. He was on his way to delivering or coning someone. The hooded figure followed the smuggler into a quieter part of Mos Eisley. It was behind several market huts and tents. Very few walked there. There he found a human and two aliens waiting for the smuggler. They too were smugglers and waiting for their delivery. The scruffy looking male seemed to be the leader of the three and the two eight-foot reptilian aliens might have been his henchmen. “You have brought the shipment, excellent! You really do live up to your reputation, Mars.”

“I take pride in my work, Ty-kra’. I like to think of myself of the Han Solo of the new century!”

“Yes. Well, Solo turned his back and betrayed the smugglers code to join the galactic battle against the Empire.” Ty-kra’ pointed out.

“Rest assured, I will never betray the smugglers code. My word is my honor!”

“I wouldn’t go that far. Like I said, you live up to your reputation, but there are rumors that that reputation is of a con-man.”

“Now, Ty-kra’, can you believe everything you hear? More oft than not, rumors are just that. Besides, with our last meeting, has not my shipment of hand generators been legit?”

“Yes they have,” Ty-kra’ admitted as he glanced back at his two henchmen. They were restless, hoping that Gideon was trying to put a fast one over them so they had a reason to rip his arms and legs out of their sockets.

“If that doesn’t convince you, take a look at this shipment of Coraxian crystals!” Mars opened up the metal case and revealed the shining blue crystals.

“Ah, yes. These are indeed the real things.”

Keeping a safe distance, the hooded figure stood there and watched. The time to reveal himself was nearing. Opportunity was going to present itself and he had to be ready.

Just as he expected, the alien that had been following him had snuck up behind the three smugglers and began whipping to Ty-kra’. Ty-kra’ looked towards the figure’s direction and back to Mars. Mars began to look uncomfortable, suspecting that there was a problem and his fate was being determined.

“Well, these are indeed genuine. Your motives seem not to be.”

“I don’t catch your drift.” Mars began sweating profusely.

“I don’t know what you are planning, but whatever it is, your partner, who is trying to be inconspicuous, does not look honorable!” Ty-kra’ pointed towards the hooded figure.

“What partner?” Mars looked back and saw a figure dressed in a dirty-brown robe. The arm sleeves were empty, so the robe was wrapped around his shoulders and fastened in front of his chest. Not one inch of skin could be seen to reveal the species of the figure. “I don’t know who this guy is! You can’t believe that he is working for me! Look at the way he’s dressed.”

“I don’t know what you two are trying to pull, but I don’t like being conned.” Ty-kra’ said as he reached into his holster and pulled out a blaster.

“Now wait!” Mars stuttered. “Let’s not be too rash. Let’s talk about this!” He urged desperately, taking a few steps back.

“Your friend here will learn what it means to cross me. Watch closely, Mars; you’re next!” Ty-kra’ aimed the gun for the chest of the figure. The stranger looked calm and at ease. There seemed to be no fear emanating from this mysterious stranger.

Ty-kra’ went to pull the trigger, but less than a millisecond before his finger reacted to the command from his mind, and invisible force knocked the gun onto the sandy ground. The hooded figure had waved his human hand and it was instantly clear to the three smugglers who they were dealing with.

“He is a Jedi! Kill them both!” Ty-kra’ screamed, dropping to the ground quickly and pounced at the gun.

“Sorry to break it to you, but I am not a ‘he’.” The Jedi ripped the cloak off to reveal a woman with long black hair braided into a single ponytail, which came down just past her shoulders. With Jedi speed, she pulled out her lightsaber and ignited the purple-white blade. The brightness of the blade reflected back from her crystal-blue eyes and pale face.

Ty-kra’ grabbed his gun and fired frantically at the Jedi. With her quick reflexes, she easily deflected all three shots. She took one step to her right to block the stunned Mars from any blaster fire. The Jedi reached out with the Force and this time ripped the gun out of Ty-kra’s hand and threw it far behind her.

The two giant ailien smugglers charged the lady Jedi with their giant muscles bulging. The one to her right was a very muscular blue alien with a slimy, worm-like face. He came out swinging, hoping his hand, which was twice the size of the Jedi’s head, would crush her beautiful face. While the Jedi was distracted, Ty-kra’ pulled out his communicator. “Bring in reinforcements, now! We have a Jedi involved!”

The valiant lady Jedi ducked under the first swing, and as he was swinging again, hoping to get her coming back, she used her powers to leap over the alien. As she was on her way to landing behind the slow opponent, she kicked him in the back, knocking him flat on his face. The alien’s swearing was muffled in the sand. The other alien was the same height, and appeared just as strong, but it was green and looked more like a cold-blooded lizard.

As the green alien charged, his tongue slithered like a viper. The lady Jedi waved her right hand and with the Force sent him flying backwards. Mars stood there, stunned and unsure what to do. He had to get away. Forget the crystals, he needed to get out of there so he could live to smuggle another day. Mars turned around to see five soldiers dressed in tight navy-blue uniforms and white helmets come charging up to them with blasters firing.

He began to realize this whole job had been a setup. These three smugglers that the lady Jedi was handling all on her won were working for someone who probably wanted him dead. He began to pull out his blaster to help, but all five soldiers began aiming at him instead.

Mars took his hands off his blaster and raised them in the air. “Okay, okay!” Careful not to make any sudden moves, he took a step back until he was nearly back-to-back with the Lady Jedi. “Uh, Jedi…lady…whoever you are, we’ve got company. Friends of yours?”

Ty-kra’ had kept away from her and the two giant aliens were trying to come to their senses. She took the time to look behind her and saw their problem. “The Western Republic.”

“So that is what all this is about. I was wandering how long it would be before someone was going to try to kill me. I know you are just a lady, but if your are a Jedi…”

Before he could finish she made a quick turn around which caused one of the soldiers to open fire. With the Force she threw up Ty-kra’s blaster. The blaster bolt his the blaster at the right spot to make it explode, causing the soldiers to step back and flinch. “We’ll talk about gender stereotyping later. Come with me, I must get you out of here!”

“I can take care of myself! I…”

The two alien henchmen were coming to their senses. There was no time to lose. The lady Jedi turned off her lightsaber, grabbed Mars by the sleeve, and pulled him wile dashing off, trying to escape. “Whoa!” Mars stumbled the first few steps, but in a few moments he was able to keep pace.

“Get them, you fools!” Ty-kra’ screamed.

CHAPTER 2

The aliens stayed with Ty-kra’ while the five West Republican Alliance soldiers were joined by more soldiers. They began following the Jedi and the smuggler.

The two of them ran through the crowded streets of Mos Eisley. The crowd itself was going to give them some cover and they slowed down to a walk. Mars breathed heavily, “I don’t think we have been properly introduced. I am Gideon Mars.”

The Jedi was acting like she didn’t hear him at all. After a pause, she replied, I am Jacina. I have been sent by the Jedi Council to find you and bring you to Coruscant to testify.”

“It’s about that attack on New Alderaan, isn’t it?”

“There is more than just that.”

A single WRA soldier stepped out in front of them and fired his blaster. The bolt sailed between Gideon and Jacina’s heads and hit a corner of a stone hut. Jacina reached for her saber, but before she could pull it out, Gideon had his blaster out and fired it. A red bolt shot out an hit the soldier in the chest. The soldier fell back into a passing alien, who pushed him off, sending him face first into the dirt.

Jacina didn’t even glimpse at Gideon, but it was clear that his quick reflexes took her aback. “So,” Gideon began again. “What’s your plan for getting us out of here alive?”

His arrogant remarks were getting to her, but she was not going to let it show. She was a Jedi Knight and she couldn’t afford to loose her cool. “My ship is just up ahead.”

Gideon followed Jacina into a docking bay. They went through a small, narrow passage and entered the third door to the right. The ship parked in this docking bay was small, and meant for two people and some light cargo.

“Nice little Nubian class ship here; a classic, pre-clone war vessel. Very rare. Under different circumstances, I would make you an offer for…”

Jacina’s vessel exploded with a loud bang. The explosion thrust the two of them into a wall as they covered their faces from the heat and to prevent any flying debris from hitting them. When they came to their senses, all that stood before them was a large heap of burning ruble. “We’re stranded.” Jacina noted calmly, trying to think about the next move.

“I’ve got a ship a few bays down!” Gideon said, picking himself up and dusting the sand off. He reached down and helped Jacina to her feet. “Follow me.”

Jacina was reluctant, but there was very little choice. Across the room, an army of WRA soldiers entered the docking bay with their blasters in hand. They wasted no time in opening fire on them.

Jacina brought out her lightsaber and activated it as Gideon went for his blaster. A bright array of green bolts mixed with a few red bolts filled the room. The soldiers were dropping one at a time as the blasts fired by the enemy were either missing their targets or being reflected by Jacina’s saber.

Dodging several bolts, Gideion ran to the door and pounded on the control hard. A shockwave of pain rolled over the bottom of his fist. “Let’s get out of here!”

Jacina walked backwards, following him out the door and deflecting a few more shots until the door slid shut. With the saber, she swung it over her shoulder and destroyed the controls.

The soldiers were coming from everywhere. This whole attack did not make sense. The East and West Republics did not want war to come and neither would try to assassinate a witness that might end the fighting. Something or someone else was behind this.

Jacina decided to keep her saber ignited in case any more soldiers came out of nowhere. Indeed, as Gideon said, the ship was just a few bays away. They went down two more doors and through the next door was a ship she recognized immediately. She couldn’t hide her surprise. “The Millennium Falcon!”

“Not quite. It used to be, before it was destroyed a decade ago. I took the remains, rebuilt it, and added some features for myself. Now it’s a brand new ship called the Century Hawk.” Gideon replied. “Hawk, the ramp!” Gideon called loudly, the echo reflecting through the empty docking bay.

Jacina didn’t understand why he was talking to his ship until the ramp began to lower and a voice came from the ship. “Greetings, Master Gideon. 'Click-click',all went well?”

“Does it ever?”

“Who…”

“You’ll see when we get inside.” Gideon insisted, trying to urge Jacina to hurry.

“I see. ‘Click-click’, It has gone well enough for you to meet a mistress.”

Jacina was insulted. If she were not trained in the Force, she would have objected to being called a mistress.

“How would you like to become scrap metal? Just start the engines! We’re going to have company!” Blaster fiver came from the other end of the docking bay, just missing Gideon. “You better make that we have company!” He fired his blaster at the incoming WRA soldiers.

Jacina charged at the group of now ten WRA soldiers, reflecting every shot that was aimed towards her. As the lady Jedi approached, the remaining three soldiers retreated until they could get reinforcements.

’Click-click’, Are we going to leave or what?” The ship insisted.

Back at the door they had come from, more soldiers were storming into the docking bay. “Hawk, the guns!” Gideon screamed as he ran towards the ramp.

The blasters on the bottom of the hull turned and shot the soldiers. The West Republic soldiers ran for cover as Gideon and Jacina ran up the ramp. As soon as Jacina was in the ship, she deactivated her lightsaber and followed Gideon to the cockpit. The internal design and outlay of the ship was a little different from what she had heard about the Falcon, yet it had the same atmosphere. As they entered the cockpit, there were three seats: the pilot seat, the co-pilot, and a passenger one behind and in between them.

Gideon jumped to his seat, nearly leaping over it. Jacina was ready to join him as the co-pilot. “Hey ‘click-click’ no sitting on the co-pilot, please!”

Jacina turned and looked over at the seat to see the upper half of a protocol droid built into the co-pilot chair. With the gold-plate coverings, there was no doubt that the co-pilot was built ffrom the components of C-3PO, Master Skywalker’s protocol droid. Threepio had been destroyed with the Millennium Falcon along with High Senator Organa Solo and Chewbacca on a mission to New Alderaan, or so she thought. It was the incident that had flamed the threat of civil war.

“Pardon me, I apologize!” Jacina said as she sat in the passenger seat.

’Click click’. Apology accepted, though I get that a lot.”

“Let’s get out of here, Hawk!” the Century Hawk’s ramp raised and the blaster fire bounced off the reflector shields. Ty-kra’ entered the docking bay just as the ship flew out.

Ty-kra’s face was full of rage as he activated his communicator. “They got away!”

YIPPEE!

This is so good. I agree with Vader; great job with the action scenes, and I'm really liking Jacina's character. This part made me LOL:

VadarLVR64: Great job with the action!
Thank you. When I started writting this story back in 2002, I thought the action scenes would be hard to write, but I can had fun with it.

GeithJiseo2: great job with the action scenes, and I'm really liking Jacina's character. Honestly, this is so good that my only suggestion is to add more, and soon. Great job!
Thank you. Having written about Jacine for trilogy, I have grown to love Jacina's character. I am currently working on the final book of the trilogy, so I am way ahead of everyone. I have enjoyed watching her grow up through all three stories.

Thank you for your comments. As I had said before, While you are reading the first book in a trilogy, I am 3/4 of the way through the final book of the trilogy. I hope you all can make it to the end of this saga, because I promise you, if you liked the action so far in this novel, it pales in comparrison to what has happened and is about to happen in the the final book of the story. The battle scenes in this final book are absolutly spectacular including the final saber duel. Each book, I think you would agree, the battle scenes get better and better. I am having an absolute blast with this final story and going all out.

Anyway, since you now know that the story you are reading is already completed, you know I am capable of posting this story quickly. I will post the next chatper tomorrow evening. I just want to give anyone else a chance to catch up.

CHAPTER 3

The Century Hawk blazed through the sky as it raced into the upper atmosphere. Gideon smiled back at Jacina. "There, no problem."

Jacina shook her head and looked down to her right. There was metal box, much like the one he had when trying to sell the crystals to the spy acting as a smuggler. She opened the box and it was full of the same crystals. "So this is what you were trying to sell? No wonder why you were fooled into believing that you were trading to a smuggler? These are extremely poor replications of Coraxian crystals. I would expect if you were as good as conning as you believe you are, you would at least make them the right color."

"First of all, I resent that. Second of all…."

"’Click-click’, pleasant chat can wait! I detect two war-cruisers bordering the atmosphere of this planet. I may be mistaken, ‘click-click’, but they look like an updated model of Imperial Star Destroyers."

"Impossible, they were all decommissioned after the treaty was signed!" Gideon barked, as he was trying to pull up the radar.

"Actually, that is not true. The Imperial government never did decommission them. Anyway, I’m not surprised in the least to see these star destoyers. Those soldiers who were attacking us are not from the Western Republic Alliance. Their uniforms were off. I think we now know who is behind this whole mess."

"’Click-click’, with those two star destroyers up there, I will settle for just coming out of this in one piece." Hawk replied.

As the Century Hawk reached the blackness of space, two large vessels were waiting there for them. Indeed they looked like Imperial Star Destroyers except there were no reflector towers in the back, making them look even flatter. The reflector generators was well protected somewhere else on the ships.

The two Star Destroyers opened fire on the small cargo ship. "’Click-click’, with this kind of pounding, my reflector shield will not hold up!"

"Keep them up as long as you can! I will try to get us into light speed!"

Jacina sat in her seat calmly. She was able to help just a bit by reaching out with the Force and reflecting a few of the shots. The firepower of the two Star Destroyers was too great for her to reflect everything.

The Century Hawk rattled at every bolt that pounded on the back hull. "’Click-click’, I’m hurting here! One more hard hit and the reflector is gone!"

"Give me a few seconds! I almost got the flight path punched in!"

"’Click-click’, If you’re are a Jedi, you wanna get up there and reflect some of those shots?" Hawk tilted the golden droid’s head while looking back at Jacina.

Jacina did not return with an answer. She was focused on reflecting what shots she could, and besides she was not sure she wanted to hear what was said. The Century Hawk flew underneath one of the Star Destroyers so they only had to deal with just one firing at them. Unfortunately, they were getting bombarded with direct hits from the laser turrets on the belly of the monstrous ship.

"’Click-click’, our reflectors are down! One more hit and we'll be nothing more than space debris!"

"Punch it!" The stars became white lines as the Century Hawk went into hyper drive. The two Star Destroyers instantaneously disappeared from sight.

"I am extremely disappointed with this news," the holograph of the man standing before Ty-kra’ said calmly. He was a tall seven-foot human, tan in color, and his left arm was completely robotic. It looked like it came from a giant android of some type. Even though this was his holographic image, his red retinas could still strike fear in all who looked at him. "Now that they have escaped, they have seen our two warships, they know that someone is trying to promote the civil war in the New Republic and trying to bring to life a new Galactic Empire. You have seriously jeopardized our strategy."

"Kartel, How was I supposed to know that a Jedi would get involved? Were your people not supposed to prevent this kind of thing from happening?"

His nostrils flared over the disrespect that was being shown towards him by using his name. "The Jedi will be a problem, but their downfall is inevitable. I have sent you enough soldiers that you should have been able to at least kill the con artist."

"You underestimate the lady Jedi!"

"No, you underestimate my authority, a mistake that will cost you. You are no longer of any use to me." The image disappeared. A hissing sound came from behind him, followed by the screaming of his two alien henchmen. He turned around and standing before him was a Sith lord with his red lightsaber drawn. Behind the sith was his Ty-kra’s henchmen slain.

Ty-kra recognized the Sith to be Darth Krull. He had the physique of a human, but his skin was green, his eyes were yellow, and instead of a bridged nose like humans had, he had to slits above his upper lip. Darth Krull retracted his saber and approached Ty-kra with a grin on his face.

Ty-kra turned and went to run for his life, but standing there blocking him was another sith. This was, was the other apprentice of Kartel’s master, Darth Bison. He was a strange alien with gray fur, fangs, a snout, and moon-slit shaped pupils. He stood there with drool dropping from his fangs. His claw-like hands were holding the handle of his lightsaber.

"Wait, wait, perhaps we can strike a deal!" Ty-kra pleaded as he turned and faced Darth Krull. Neither of the Sith lords replied. Darth Krull raised his right hand and began to pinch the air. Ty-kra gasped as his breathing was cut off. Ty-kra’ fell to his knees, struggled for air, gasping as he held his throat. In less than a minute, he collapsed and his heart ceased beating.

* * * *

Kartel cut the transmission and turned around to his master. "I have sent Krull and Bison to eliminate the smuggler, Master Sithious."

Sithious grinned. "Excellent. Though their incompetence is insignificant and has no effect on my plan, failure will not be tolerated."

"What about the lady Jedi who rescued the con artist?"

Sithious chuckled. "She is young and week; however, If they reach Coruscant then we will have to accelerate our plans. Pursue them. I want that con artist."

CHAPTER 4

With Century Hawk in hyperspace, it allowed all of them to rest. "So, do you mind explaining to me how you got your hands on what use to be the Millennium Falcon?" Jacina asked.

"’Click-click’, the Falcon was a heap of junk. I am faster, more powerful, and ‘click-click’ just a whole lot prettier," Hawk entered.

"Well, it wasn’t that hard. I was on New Alderaan when I noticed the Falcon come barreling down out of the atmosphere. The rear of the Falcon was on fire as it descended, so it probably ran into some trouble.”

“Did you see who was attacking the Falcon?”

“Nope, I didn’t see a thing. I made that assessment just by what I saw.
I watched it until it crashed violently in a green pasture. I had to travel an hour to get to the wreckage to see if there were any survivors, but when I got there, I found the ship in pieces. I found three charcoaled bodies. I knew it was The Supreme Chancellor Solo and her husband, Ambassador Solo because the third body was clearly that of a Wookie.”

"Reports said that there was very little wreckage left. It was also reported that most of the ship and its inhabitance were incinerated. You stole the ship in total disrespect for the dead, especially when you knew who was on board!"

"Listen sister, I know full well who they were, and how important they were. I had nothing but respect for both of them. I assumed that who ever shot down the Falcon would come down and try to make sure the job was done, so I quickly buried the bodies and scavenged anything salvageable from the wreckage, including parts from their golden protocol droid, and burnt everything else. I decided to keep everything I salvaged, and began to rebuild the Falcon, adding the features that I wanted."

“Including Threepio?” Jacina looked towards the golden droid sitting in the co-pilot seat. Knowing that he was being talked about, the golden droid looked back at her.

“The legs were irreparable, so I built it into the ship. I found the original programming to be very… annoying. The stupid droid would not shut up. So I reprogrammed it and added Hawk’s artificial intelligence to it. So Hawk has control over all the features of this ship and the droid. I suppose I did it so I have someone to talk to.”

"So you have no idea who could have been responsible for the attack?"

"No. Sorry, sis."

"The New Republic suspected an attack, but had found no evidence of proving such a theory.”

The ship began to shake violently. "’Click-click’, we’re in trouble!"

"Talk already!” Gideon snapped.

The Century Hawk came out of hyperspace. "’Click-click’, the hyper-drive and our starboard engines have been heavily damaged. ‘Click-click’, we are loosing power!"

"Are there any planets near by?" Gideon began working on the controls profusely, hoping to get some power back.

"’Click-click’, how lucky is that? We are approaching the planet Dantooine."

"That will do quite nicely. With plenty of open fields that will even up the odds of us surviving. Buckle up, honey, and I hope your not going to take points off for neatness here."

"I’ve told you before, refer to me by my proper title."

The Century Hawk entered the atmosphere of the planet at a steep angle. Gideon was working hard to straighten the ship out or they would be incinerated.

"Get the nose up!"

"’Click-click’, you don’t have to remind me! I am the one who is going to, ‘click-click’, feel this the most!"

The Century Hawk came spearing out of the clouds now revealing the land. Luck was not going for them, as they were heading straight for a forest. "Brace yourself!"

The Century Hawk raced towards the middle of the forest and crashed through a thick blanket of treetops, which broke at impact. Chunks of the ship flew off as it broke through the trees. It finally landed in a small clearing in the middle of the forest. The nose of the Hawk dug into the earth as the rear of the ship hit the ground with a violent thud.

* * * *

Kartel walked up respectfully to Sithious, who was sitting at his self-proclaimed throne. He sat there, wearing his black robe. His face covered by the shadow of the hood. Kartel kneeled before his master. "You summoned me?"

"Yes. It appears that the Force has granted us some luck. Our lady Jedi and the con man have crashed on the planet Dantooine."

"Should I send Darth Bison or Darth Krull to intercept them, my lord."

"No. Send in Darth Kahn. He is well trained; this pathetic little Jedi will be no match for him."

"As you wish."

* * * *

Jacina opened her eyes as she regained conscious. A sharp pain raced through her body. The first thing she felt was her throbbing head. She felt her head, and found that it was bandaged up. She next noticed that her right arm, just above the elbow, was wrapped tightly. She did not need to check her legs, she knew something was torn, or sprained.

"Well, I thought you were never going to wake up before nightfall. From what I hear, some dangerous wild beasts roam these woods. Having a Jedi awake would make things easier fighting them off." Gideon said cheerfully.

"How bad is the damage?"

"Hawk is in better condition than the Falcon was, but not by much. We better find some inhabitance around here who has the capability to fix her up."

"This planet is under the Western Republic Alliance jurisdiction, but I have a personal friend here who just happens to be the senator of this planet. I am sure his people can repair her."

"’Click-Click’, I hope so! I feel like ‘click-click’ I just went one on one with a moon base."

"Well, we can’t wait here for night to fall. Think you can handle a long hike, pretty lady?"

"I have told you several times now, please refer to me properly. Lady Jacina, or just plain Jacina. No pet nicknames! Understood?"

Gideon laughed. He knew he was driving her crazy. That was the kind of guy he was. He loved picking on people. "Excuse me, Lady Jedi Jacina, are you up to a long hike?”

Jacina could feel her mother’s rage well up in her, but she fought it back. "Yes, I can handle the hike! Mind being a gentleman, for once, and help me up?"

"Ohhh, the Jedi strikes back!" Gideon laughed as he reached down with his right hand and pulled her onto her feet. "I need to go get something from the wreckage! I will be right back!"

She followed him to the giant hole in the side of the ship’s hull. It was big enough that she would not even have to duck. Gideon was a little taller, however, so he would have to bow his head to get in. Looking inside the hole, she was astonished that they were still alive. There were still flames burning in various areas of the ship, but it looked like Hawk had them mostly under control. A ship that could make minor repairs without assistance was very impressive. There was no questioning Gideon’s technical and ship construction abilities. She was afraid to find out how he had the credits to make something like this.

"Stay here, there is no need for two of us to risk our heads just for a wrist communicator and a spare blaster."

With all the debris on the ground, she would be in great pain just trying to climb over everything. She did not argue him on that. She nodded in acknowledgment. He looked back into the ship and climbed into the wreckage. He went down to the other end of what use to be the passenger area and stopped at a small metal box mounted onto the wall. The box was badly deformed and the hatch was not locked down. He swung open and pulled out its contents: a blaster and a wrist communicator. "Hawk, I want you to keep in constant contact with me if you see anything suspicious. Are you able to keep track of our whereabouts?"

"’Click-click’, I believe so." Hawk returned

"Excellent, do so! If you detect any danger in our area, I want to know immediately!"

Jacina could see Gideon on his was way back towards the hole when she heard something rumble above him. She looked up, and saw a loose beam breaking free. The beam began to fall and all Gideon could do was duck and wait for it to land on him and perhaps kill him, but he felt nothing touch him. He looked up to see the beam floating in midair. He immediately looked over towards Jacina who had her right hand stretched out, reaching out to the Force. "Get out of there!"

Gideon nodded and dashed out of the wreckage. As soon as Gideon was clear, she ceased her connection with the force and allowed the beam to crash onto the floor. Gideon looked back to where he could have been killed. "Well, I think I need to thank you for that one!"

"Let us be off," Jacina said, ignoring his gratitude.

"Good idea."

CHAPTER 5

They had been walking, as far as they could tell, eastward for the past hour. There was about another hour of sunlight left and then the dangerous nocturnal creatures would roam the woods. Jacina felt her Jedi senses telling her that they were headed in the right direction.

She tried not to talk to Gideon as much as possible. He was non-relenting in his catch phrases and in his attempts to flirt with her. Didn’t he get it? She was Jedi he was not. There was no way that they could form a relationship. The Jedi code forbade it.

She had been limping through the entire hike and the pain in her leg was getting worse. It felt like fire was roaring through it. The farther she walked, the harder it was to hide the pain. She stayed focused with the Force, trying to dissolve some of the pain, but not even that was working.

Gideon noticed her limp was getting worse. He had, up to this point, kept his mouth shut about her leg. "Maybe we should stop and let you sit down for awhile."

"I feel fine. Let’s go!" Jacina replied.

"You really dislike me that much? You hate me enough to put yourself through agony and misery? I know that your leg is killing you. Are you going to endure the pain just so you don’t spend one second alone with me?"

Jacina turned to face him. "As a Jedi, I do not hold grudges or ill-feelings towards anyone."

"Are Jedi allowed to lie? That was a one of the biggest lies I have ever heard. I am a con-artist and I know a lie when I hear one."

Before she could reply, Gideon’s wrist-communicator beeped. "What is it?"

"’Click-Click’, be on your guard. ‘Click-click’, if my scanners are correct, you are surrounded. ‘Click-click’, from the way they’re moving, I do not think, ‘click-click’, they are of the friendly sort."

Jacina immediately whipped her lightsaber out of her belt. With a flick of a switch, her violet saber blade shot out of the handle. Gideon found his left hand freeing his blaster and kept it on the handle. "Good work. Is there anything you can do to give us a hand?"

"I’m in pieces man, ‘click-click’."

"I had a feeling you were going to say that." Gideon deactivated the communicator.

Jacina reached out to the Force. Indeed, there were many creatures out there with their sights focused on them and they were hungry. “We are being hunted,” she concurred.

Gideon grunted. "Now I know what a Womprat feels like."

A violent squealing pierced the silence as an ankle-sized two-legged reptile came flying towards Jacina’s chest. With quick reflexes, she dodged the attack and sliced the creature through the gut. The creature was a very grotesque beast with moon-slit eyes, a rounded snout, sharp fangs, and a tongue like a snake. In an instant another leaped towards Jacina from a different angle, dashing out at her like a rushing arrow. Again, Jacina thwarted the attack and sliced it in half.

One popped out and attacked Gideon. His quick reflexes helped him pull out his blaster and shoot it down. "This is not bad. I could use the target practice. A few more and they will learn not to mess with us." Surrounding them in the bushes, hundreds of these creatures appeared; none of them fazed or deterred from their prey. "Now this presents a problem."

Neither of them waited for the creatures to begin attacking and they took the offensive. Gideon fired his blaster like a mad man. Jacina swung her lightsaber through the growing crowd of creatures, killing a handful at a time. A few rouges came out of the pack and lunged for her face, but she reflected their attempts with the Force.

The creatures were relentless, pushing Jacina and Gideon back. Before either of them knew it, their backs were touching. "This is no good!"

A loud roar echoed through the woods. The smaller reptile creatures were startled and they all scattered. "I think things just got worse."

Two giant versions of the lizard preadators came into view. Both of them dripped saliva as they looked at the two. Gideon did not wait to see what move they would make. He fired his blaster at one of them, hitting it in the chest. The creature was unfazed, the bolt leaving a small burn on its slimy hide. It hissed violently at him.

The other creature reached its claw out to grab Jacina, but Jacina swung her lightsaber, cutting the tip of one of its claws. The creature jerked his hand back and growled. A third creature joined the two as they circled around the two humans. One of them made another attempt to grab her, and she spun her lightsaber around in circles keeping them at bay.

A warning from the Force caught her attention, and she spun around just in time to see another hand coming in to grab her. She ducked and rolled under the claw, but it grazed her wounded arm. She yelped in pain as she protected her wounded arm from further damage. She had no choice but to hold the lightsaber in her opposite hand despite not being left-handed. Fighting like that would soon become a futile attempt, but her blood-drenched arm was of no use.

Gideon tried again and fired a series of bolts at one of the creature’s head. The creature was only more stirred up by this attempt. "Well, this is it then!"

The explosion of a blaster cannon rang out, and the next thing they knew one of the creatures fell dead! Coming their way were several hover tanks and a small army of West Republic Alliance soldiers. The two remaining creatures growled and retreated back into the forest.

Jacina wanted to collapse from the pain. She could not even put her light saber away. She turned it off and looked around for the one she knew was responsible for the rescue.

"Jacina is that you?" A voice cried out from one of the tanks. Climbing out of the tank was a gray-haired gentleman dressed in a blue- and red-on-black suit. It was the Senator of Dantooine.

"Senator Antilles!"

The senator was followed by several well armed soldiers who commenced securing the area. Senator laughed as he walked up to her and gave her a gentle hug. "I insist, call me Wedge." He looked at her wounded arm. "It looks like we got here just in time. That arm of yours is in desperate need of medical attention."

"I would appreciate it."

With a wave of his hand, another soldier came running from the tanks and instantly knew what he was being called to do. He stood by Jacina’s side and wrapped her arm around his shoulder and helped her walk towards the hover tanks. The Senator stayed by Jacina’s side, forcing Gideon to walk on the other side of the soldier aiding Jacina.

"Who do you have with you?"

"Gideon Mars, at your service. If I may say so, Senator, I have heard many great stories about you during the imperial war."

"Ah, the good old days. What I would not give to be in the cockpit of an X-wing once again; but I’m old now. My eyes aren’t what they used to be," Wedge replied. He caught himself babbling on the old days and shook his head to wave it off. "Anyway, I saw a ship come crashing down so I came here to investigate what happened."

"My ship is about an hour or so west!"

"We will find it, bring it back with us, and fix her all up as good as new!"

"I must warn you, you will recognize the design of the ship. It was the Millennium Falcon," Jacina added.

"The Millennium Falcon? That was destroyed in the accident along with…"

"It is a long story," Gideon replied. "I will tell you later. We need to get her some help."

Walking past the hover tanks, the solider and Wedge led them to a passenger land transportation with it’s side hatch raised open. The soldier helped Jacina into the hover tank aided her in sittind down on the cushioned bench. Upon her request, the soldier was kind enough to help her slide towards the closet corner in the passenger compartment while Wedge and Gideon climbed in.

As Soon as Jacina was sitting comfortably, the soldier exited out to head back to his hover tank. Before returning, he shut the hatch behind him, giving Wedge and Gideon time to take a seat near Jacina. It was not long at all until they could feel the vibration from movement of the transportation. Overwhelemed with fatigue and pain, Jacina leaned back in the corner and laid her head back on the wall as she slipped into the darkness.

* * * *

Things were going great: Gideon and the lady Jedi were found and it was only a matter of time until they found Hawk and brought him back for repairs. "’Click-click’, someone’s coming, but they are alone, ‘click-click’.”

A strange hooded figure entered the hole of the ship. Hawk did not recognize who the intruder was, so he thought it was best to play dead and hoped he went away. The hooded figure took the hood off to reveal a furry creature that looked like a crossbreed of an Ewok and a Wookie. It was obvious that this thing was intelligent. What he wanted, Hawk did not know, nor did he care to find out.

The intruder muttered in an unknown dialect as he headed into the cockpit area. Hawk made sure that his android body connected to the co-pilot seat was deactivated. It was lucky for him that he was the ship, not just the android. He could control many parts of this ship, or at this point, what was left of it.

Hawk suddenly realized he had forgotten something of extreme importance: he had neglected to turn off the scanners. With just the thought, he turned them off and the flashing lights on the dashboard ceased. He hoped that the intruder had not noticed the blinking lights, but there was no such luck. The newcomer swiped his hand over where the flashing lights once were.

With lightning reflexes, he drew out and ignited a lightsaber and rammed its red blade into the computer. Sparks flew as the scanners and everything that connected to that were destroyed. He pulled it out and without warning cut off the head of the android body. It clanked on the floor and rolled near the back of the cockpit. The intruder deactivated his lightsaber and left the cockpit. The intruder wasted no time leaving the wreckage and walked away. "’Click-click’, ouch!"

CHAPTER 6

Jacina awoke in a nice warm cot. She felt extremely comfortable and rested. Looking at her arm, she saw the scars from the crash and the attack by creatures in the forest. Other than that, her arm was completed restored. The same went for her leg.
She looked at what she was wearing; it was a white medical robe, which told her that she had spent some time in the bacta tank. The door to the medical center opened and Senator Antilles entered the room. "You are awake! Well rested, I assume?"

"I feel like I’ve gotten twelve hours of sleep!" Jacina smiled.

"Make that thirty-six hours! You were in bad shape!"

"That long! Where is Gideon, we must return to Coruscant immediately!" Jacina said, trying to draw any strength she could to sit herself up.

"You need to rest up."

"I don’t have that luxury those Star Destroyers may be looking for us, we are endangering you all by staying here."

"Your ship is all that our scanners have detected entering our atmosphere. You are safe for the time being. Give your self a few hours at the very least, to regain your strength. I insist that you and your friend will join me for a supper."

Jaina conceded. She knew that he was right. She was only now beginning to recover some of her strength. A few hours to rest should not be too bad."How is he, anyway?" Jacina asked as she pressed a button at the side of her cot which raised the head of the bed upwards. She wanted to sit up and lay back to a more comfortable position.

"Your friend had no major injuries to talk about. You were the one that got the blunt of the crash." Wedge smiled as a thought entered his mind. "You know, you remind me so much of your father! You have gotten many of his attributes!" Jacina smiled at the comment. "Anyway, let me leave you alone, so you can rest up and perhaps do your meditating in the force thing. I will go check on your friend for you."

"Thanks Wedge."

* * * *

Gideon was leaning against the stonewall on his elbows, looking at the beautiful garden outside with the sun lighting it up as a spectacular wonder. The spring warm sun was much more comfortable than the hot blistering sun of Tatooine and the frigid coldness of the darkness of space.

Wedge came walking out onto the stone patio. "So you’re Gideon Mars."

"In the flesh." Gideon said as he turned to face Wedge leaning back on the stonewall. “I suppose my reputation has preceded me here.”

"I knew that you were wanted for information by the Eastern Republic Alliance but other than that, I’ve never heard anything about you in my life."

“Thanks for dealing a blow to my ego,” Gideon frowned.

"If you are here to pull of another scam..."

"Hey, hey, hey!" Gideon waved his hands. "It was you people who sent a Jedi to come and find me, remember? I’ve said everything I know, and said up front that I don’t know enough to stop your silly civil war!"

"Ok…ok, I’ll admit, your motives seem to be honest enough.” Wedge conceded. “Though you do realize that after you testify, the life you know is going change forever. If you went back to what you were, you would be a target for assassination."

Gideon had not thought about that, but he was right. The life he knew that smugglers all over the galaxy will discover his reputation and come after him. "I never thought about it. What will I do with my life?”

There was a long silence between the two of them; both of them looking out into the giant garden. "You have feelings for Jacina. I don’t need to be a Jedi to see it."

Gideon smiled. "Wow, this is a little awkward."

"She is a Jedi knight, but since I have watched her grow up since she was born, I kind of feel like a godfather to her. You know that it can never work between you two?”

“Why, because I’m a dishonest, two-timing scallywag?”

“That is one concern. I was more or less thinking about the very strict code that a Jedi has to live by. The Jedi code says that Jedi shall know no hate, nor anger, nor love."

"Well then, how can that be? They were little Jedi before they grew up? That means there was love shown somewhere for them to be here today."

"I would be lying if I said that I understood it, but I am friends with the Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. He does not oppose marriage; he was once married, himself. I believe they have adopted a new code saying that Jedi shall only marry Jedi upon the acceptance of the Jedi council.”

“That’s border line of arranged marriages!”Gideon replied. He stared out into the beautiful sight and let out a deep breath. "I suppose it really doesn’t matter anyway. She can’t stand my guts."

* * * *

Darth Krull and Darth Bisons had returned to the Superior class Star Destroyer. They walked down the ramp and immediately made their way into the main chambers where their master was awaiting them. They knelt down and bowed their head in reverence to their master. "We have returned, my master!"

"Good. I don’t need you at this moment. You may go."

Darth Krull looked up at his master. "Master, we wish to go after the lady Jedi and the con-artist. We can over take her and eliminate them without any unforeseen problems."

"That won’t be necessary. I have sent out Darth Kahn to eliminate them."

"But master, we are more powerful than he."

"Are you questioning my judgment, my apprentices?" Sithious stared into the faces of his two apprentices. His red glowing eyes from his human face was piercing their very soul.

"No Master." Darth Krull bowed his head again, to show he meant no disrespect.

"Good, now leave. I will summon you when I need you again!"

"Yes, my master"

The two apprentices stood up and walked out of the main chamber. As soon as the door slid shut, the two of them looked at each other. "He is getting weak and incompetent, no matter who he says he really is," Darth Krull muttered.

"Yes, the lady Jedi has escaped from his hands, and now he is loosing control."

"If this continues, the Jedi will wipe all of us out."

"Are you thinking what I am thinking?"

Darth Krull grinned. "Yes. We shall eliminate Sithious and then we shall lead the conquest of this galaxy!"

"The time for us to act is near, my friend. When we next report to him, we shall draw out our swords and strike him down."
