	At Wit's End Rating: PG Genre: Humor – nothing's serious Time Frame: Right before NJO Characters: L/M, Kyp, Jaina/Zekk, Jacen/Tenel Ka, Raynar/Lusa, Lowbacca Summary: What starts out as a relaxing camping trip turns into a vacation disaster when the the group is separated. Without the force, technology, or the comforts of modern living, the gang must learn to navigate the wild jungles of Myrkr. Can they do this, or will nature and group tension get the best of them? It was a lazy day on Yavin IV. Too hot for even the most dedicated students to go out a spar and train, and too humid for most species residing in the temple. The trees were still in the non-existent wind, and even the numerous bugs that populated the jungle moon were silent, the effort of buzzing and annoying the usually numerous crowds of students too much work. Mara was finally home for the weekend, a rare time for her and Luke to be in the Temple simultaneously. Yet, after spending the last few days together she found she wasn't eager to leave again. Then Luke started doing paperwork, much to her ire. She wanted to spend some time with him, but not like this. Her question was the logical next best step. Her question must have caught her husband by surprise, for he actually looked up from his work and met her gaze queerly. “A vacation?” Luke Skywalker repeated, his eyebrows raised. “Yes, a vacation.” Mara Jade said again, not all together pleased about the way her husband echoed her question back. “Doesn't that sound good?” Luke was silent for a moment, his hands tapped a persistent cadence against the stack of data cards that covered his normally pristine desk. She sighed, waiting. “Doesn't it?” She prompted. Luke looked up at her again before turning back to his work. “it does, it's just not practical.” Mara frowned, “Why isn't it practical?” Luke gestured at his desk, “This for one thing. Applications for trainees, diplomats wishing us well, planets requesting help – my work's never ending.” Mara waved her hand dismissively, “Can't Tionne handle that, for one week at least? Or what about your assistant, Tari – she's always itching for a chance to prove herself.” Luke sighed, “It's really a bad timing.” “What would be better timing?” No answer. She smirked, “you see, Grand Master, there's always going to be a planet to save or a disgruntled diplomat, and there'll always be a waiting list for students.” Luke turned away from his work again as Mara rose from her seat to gaze out of his office's windows. Once again the same Yavin jungles greeted her – a familiar and overused sight. “I can't leave unless its for a legitimate reason, Mara, you know that. We have an image to uphold.” She raised one flame colored brow, “Since when have I cared about image?” More silence. She knew the idea was appealing. She walked over and came up behind her. She wrapped her arms around him from behind, smiling as he leaned back into her. “You could use this, Luke. Look at you! You have bags under your eyes and a seemingly permanent slump to your shoulders. Leia barely recognized you when she commed yesterday.” Luke sighed as her nimble hands began to expertly massage his shoulders. “You have no idea how good a vacation sounds.” Luke was oblivious to the determined smirk that crept up onto her face. “You know . . . Karrde just had the old base on Myrkr turned into a get away resort. I can only imagine how much fun we could have there. Imagine – room service, three indoor pools, no diplomats, no feuds, no renegade Sith.” Her look turned faraway and wistful, “Better air conditioning . . . .” Luke laughed, “What's a Skywalker vacation without a renegade Sith?” Mara sighed, “One we'll never have.” He laughed again and she leaned into whisper into his ear. “And Luke, it's Myrkr. It would be nice to visit there.” A far away look invaded Luke's eyes. “where I first met you.” She smiled, working a surprisingly stubborn knot out of her husband's shoulders. “Where everything started,” she agreed. “I can think of a few ways to celebrate the memory of such a special time.” He jerked upright in his seat as she flashed a few ideas across his mind. She laughed as a blush invaded her farm boy's cheeks. Still so naïve after all of this time . . . “We have to celebrate the first time you first pulled a blaster on me.” Luke quipped, a smile invading his usually tired face. Mara smirked devilishly as she added a blaster into her thoughts. She came up with some very . . . interesting scenarios. This time Luke smiled, his grin matching hers. “I know how you feel about leaving without a reason, so I suggest a comprise.” He sighed as her thoughts were cut off for a moment, yet turned to listen to her. Easy to say, she had his attention. “I'm listening.” She leaned in to talk into his ear, “why not bring in a group of students? I know a few who deserve a break, and camping on a force void world would definitely be a good exercise.” “Camping?” Luke asked, “I thought that you mentioned a resort?” Her smirk grew. “Who says I'm sharing the resort with them? They'll be camping, we'll be relaxing by the pool.” Curious, Luke asked, “How will you manage that?” She leaned in more, her mouth brushing the soft shell of his ear. “Trust me?” She asked, throwing a pout in for good measure. “Always.” He said without hesitation. “Good,” she said, “you just leave everything to me, I'll plan you the perfect vacation. You deserve this.” Luke nodded, his hands coming to wrap around her waist. “A vacation.” He mussed, his expression thoughtful. “That sound really good.” She nodded her agreement, leaning in to rest against him. Luke smirked then, a stray thought revisiting his mind. “I'm curious about that one thought though.” “Which one?” He reached up to whisper in her ear, and a smile flooded her face. “Really? I suppose we can start the vacation slightly early.” Luke smiled as he leaned up to kiss his wife. “I was hoping you'd say that.” OoO “A camping trip?” “Yeah, doesn't it sound wonderful?” Zekk could only watch as Jaina zipped around her quarters, putting this and that into her travel bag. “Yeah, sounds like fun.” He answered. She looked at him through fallen strands of brown hair. “You don't seem too excited.” He shrugged, “It's camping – rocks, dirt, trees. Nothing I can't get here.” Jaina rolled her eyes, “It'll be fun, vent crawler. You could use a little fun.” Zekk rolled his eyes, “According to you.” He acquiesced with a smirk. “I think that it'd be fun anywhere but Myrkr,” Jacen complained from the entrance to his sister's chambers. A rather large and fully packed bag was swung over his shoulder and ready to go. “You know what Myrkr means.” Jaina looked down at her bag, wondering what she had forgotten, she always managed to forget something. “What does Myrkr mean?” Jaina asked her brother as she pursed her lips, thinking. “Ysalamiri.” Zekk answered, wincing. She looked up at him, grinning, “Scared?” “Uncomfortable.” Jacen called from the door. “Not scared.” Zekk rolled his eyes. “I've spent enough time without the force, but never camping.” He frowned, “Actually, I don't think that I've ever been camping.” Jaina smiled, “It's lots of fun, you'll love it!” A small grin touched the edges of the tall Jedi's lips. Her good mood was contagious and he found himself looking forward to the trip. “Nothing can be dull with you.” He said, quietly enough for her to hear only. She blushed prettily before turning away to reexamine her bag. “Hmmm, I can't help but feel like I've forgotten something.” “Sun screen?” Jacen suggested, “rain poncho and insect repellent?” Jaina raised an eyebrow as she took in her brother's rather large travel pack. The obscenely bright yellow bag was bulging at the seams with whatever her brother had packed, and looked ready to topple her brother by sheer weight. “I'm sure that you've brought enough for both of us.” She said. Jacen shrugged, “You can never be too prepared.” “Yes, but I also intent on walking under my own power. All that and I won't be able to move an hour into hiking – especially with Aunt Mara leading.” Jacen did grimace, “It sounds like punishment - a vacation with Mara. We'll be up at sun rise and doing push-ups at her every whim.” “It won't be that bad.” Zekk spoke up in defense of the flame haired master. “Besides, you won't want to be caught saying that about Master Luke's wife.” “- Because then this will be punishment.” A new voice chimed in, and all three jumped as Mara Jade came strolling in the room. All three young Jedi snapped to attention as the older Jedi came in. There was a playful smirk on her face as she turned her evaluating green gaze from one to the other. “Don't worry, I don't bite. It will be a very interesting experience.” “I notice that you said interesting, not fun.” Jacen commented. Jaina and Zekk stood up straighter. “I happen to find push-ups interesting.” Mara remarked casually, “How fortunate that you were already anticipating indulging me. It's always good to find one who appreciates the finer points of physical training.” Her eyes fell on his monstrous pack. “Then again, carrying that across Myrkr's mountains looks like enough exercise without the push-ups.” “I just want to be prepared.” Jacen defended himself. Jaina and Zekk snickered in the background. “Ah,” was all she said. Then, turning to the rest of them, “We just got permission from all of you parents, so we'll be leaving within the hour. Kyp and Tenel Ka are already waiting in the hangar, so I advise that you hurry up.” She turned to look at Jacen again, “You know how much I abhor tardiness.” One more playful wink at the trio and then the head master's wife was gone to gather up the rest of the group. The three released a breath that they hadn't realize they were holding. “So, a vacation.” Zekk said. “Sounds like fun.” The others could only nod. TBC ~MJ -----signature----- I couldn't . . . And I want to see those interesting scenarios. I adore L/M mush Her smirk grew. “Who says I'm sharing the resort with them? They'll be camping, we'll be relaxing by the pool.” This bring back memories of girl scouts. Us girls would be stuck in tents while the leaders got to be in this nice cottage. I love Mara in this fic, she's so evil and great. It sounds like punishment - a vacation with Mara. We'll be up at sun rise and doing push-ups at her every whim. I'm sure Luke doesn't view it as a punishment. Poor kids tho. I always pictured Mara as a kind of drill segeant for a Master and it's great to see her written that way. And can we have Luke included in that push up routine.
