	Woohoo!!!!!!!! Loved the uppie!!!!!! I loved this part of the movie all those impertinent questions about age and everything and insinuations about lots and lots of girlfriends. Math is fun "Celebrate? What's my dad talking about?" Shae could guess, even without the sick feeling in her stomach as a warning. There were alarm bells going off her in head, but she forced herself to keep calm Not going to do ya much good, Shae. Unfortunately. " Since Dad seems to like you so much, I should probably tell you that you're number twenty-three – I mean twenty-four – in his life." Shae tried not to let her glee show; Vinjera was starting to look truly startled. "And it's always the same routine," she continued. "A kettle of hot chocolate, moonlight jogs through the forest, special dinners . . ." She trailed off, letting Vinjera fill in the blanks. I do love the evilness of it She put "Shae_Luvs_Devin" in her buddy list Oh I love it. Such a typical 12-year-old's screen name I know how the story goes but it still makes me nervous anyway. Ugh. 	Chapter 12 - Bad News "Sera, get dressed; I need to talk to you," Luke told his sleepy daughter early the next morning. Shae groaned. "Do I have to?" Though she was used to being woken up at early hours by her mother, she never enjoyed it. Besides, she had been up rather late the night before, thinking about what Sera had said during their conversation: sabotage her — "her" meaning Vinjera. And now her father had to talk to her about something? This couldn't be good. Pushing her worries to the side for the moment, Shae grudgingly complied. She rolled out of bed and stumbled to her closet. She heard the door click shut behind her as her father left. She pulled on the first outfit she could find and, with a huge yawn, opened the door again. "Let's go for a walk," Luke said, putting an arm around his daughter. Shae said nothing, just allowed him to lead her to an isolated spot in the wooded area just beyond the grounds of the Academy. They settled down together on a large boulder before he began to speak. "I want to talk to you about Vinjera." Shae felt sick. This couldn't be good. "And I want to talk to you about my mother," she quickly countered, hoping to deflect her father. Luke looked surprised. "What about your mother?" "What about Vinjera?" Luke gave her a look, so she tried a theatrical sigh. "Dad, I'm almost twelve. You really think that I'm going to continue to believe that story you told me about a band of tame ewoks dropping me off at your doorstep?" Luke sighed. "Honey, we've talked about your mother," he started. "No we haven't. You've barely told me anything about her. I don't even know her name. All I have is a holo." She saw a sad look flash across his face. "You've been great," she said in a softer tone. "You know I love you more than anyone in the galaxy." She hoped that he would forgive her for the lie, and decided that she was saying it for Sera, who really did adore him. "But I'm growing up," she continued. "I can't ask you about things like make-up and boys; that's just too weird. Aunt Leia is great, but she's too far away, and it's just not the same with Tionne. Face it, Dad, I need a mother." Luke changed the subject. "So, what you do think about Vinjera? Be honest." Shae narrowed her eyes; he hadn't even pretended to side-step her neatly – though from what Sera had said, quick speaking wasn't his forte. "As what, Dad? Your friend?" She knew better, but she had to try. "Well, more than that – " "Dad, I just met the woman about three days ago," Shae interrupted. "I'm not sure what to think of her. But I do need a mother – " "You're right, you need a mother," Luke interrupted. Shae frowned. She had been about to press more about Mara, but her father wouldn't be deterred. "What do you think about us making Vinjera part of the family?" he asked, holding his breath to see what her reaction would be. "Part of our family?" "Yeah." Shae gave him a grin that she hoped he couldn't tell was fake. "I think it's an excellent idea! It's awe inspiring." "Really?" Well, it's going better than I thought it would, Luke thought, until – "Yes! I've always wanted a big sister. It's so sweet of you to want to adopt Vinjera." Shae plastered a huge fake smile on her face. Luke's expression changed. "Adopt her? No, honey, I think you misunderstood. I'm not going to adopt her, I'm going to –" Here comes the news, I hope she takes it well. "I'm going to marry her." Shae's expression changed to one of horror. This was what she had feared. "Marry her? How can you do that to me? You can't marry a woman young enough to be my big sister! Sacce Soocee Byuis! Nosee Tiuosalere!" "Are you speaking Saccorian?" Luke asked her, confused. Shae stopped, realizing that Sera didn't know any language other than Basic. "I learned a little at camp," she lied. Luke accepted her words and moved on to the important part. "Honey, we need to talk about this," he started. But Shae didn't listen; instead, she ran back to the Academy, ignoring her father's calls. She raced into the sitting room of their private quarters. "I can't do this anymore, I just can't – " She stopped suddenly when she heard a noise behind her. "Can't do what anymore?" Shae whirled around. She had been so angry and upset when she walked in that she hadn't noticed Tionne sitting in one of the chairs. Shae just stared at the pale-haired woman, unsure of what to say or do. "Was there something you need to tell me Sera?" Tionne's gentle voice continued. "Like what?" Shae asked, gulping nervously. Tionne crossed her arms. "Like why Artoo-Detoo always tries to shock you when you're near him? Or why you're suddenly unsure of where the cafeteria is? I mean, it's almost as if you were . . . " "As if I were who, Tionne?" Shae whispered. Tionne waved her hand. "Oh, never mind. It's not possible." Shae knew what she had been about to say, though. "Almost as if I were Shae?" Tionne's eyes widened visibly, and Shae could tell that she was shocked. "How did you know about Shae?" She took a deep breath. "I am Shae." Tionne gasped. Tears filled her eyes and she reached her hand out to touch Shae's face wonderingly. Suddenly, Tionne was hugging her tightly. Before either of them could say another word, Luke walked in. "What's going on?" he asked, confused. "Sera, why did you run off like that?" Tionne wiped her eyes. "Nothing," she said happily. "Sera, I'm going to go make you some hot chocolate or something. Anything you want, dear." She left the father and daughter alone. "Sera?" Luke demanded. Shae shook her head. "Nothing, Dad." "I wasn't done." "I'd like you to be." Luke was about to protest, but Shae cut him off. "Please, Dad," she said. "This has been a hard day, and it's just breakfast time. Can we do this later?" Luke seemed to read her desperation to be by herself for a while. "Of course," he said gently. "Whenever you're ready." She turned to leave the room, but he stopped her. "Sera?" She turned back around to face him. "Yes?" "I do want to finish our conversation." "Sure thing," she said, a little sadly. Without another word, she turned and headed for her room. *** Vinjera walked to Sera's bedroom door and knocked softly. Shae slid open the door just a crack and peeked out. "Can I come in?" Vinjera's voice was as sickeningly sweet as the sweetener substitute that she had often seen her mother add to her caf. "I guess," Shae replied, opening the door wider and stepping back to alone Vinjera to enter the bedroom. What in the galaxy is she doing here? Shae plopped down on her bed. Vinjera took a seat on the chair that was in front of Sera's desk. "Guess the news of the engagement came as a shock?" Crap, Dad told her. Why did he do that? Shae met her eyes boldly. "Yes," she said, in an unfriendly voice. Vinjera settled back into the chair. "I remember when I was your age. I had my first major crush at eleven. It's a wonderful age; you're just beginning to feel like a woman, and believe it or not, you'll know what it's like to be in love some day very soon." Shae rolled her eyes and scoffed. "I doubt that." "Being in love is a fantastic mystery that involves a man and a woman – " Shae cut her off. "I know what mystery my dad sees in you." Vinjera's sickeningly sweet smile appeared again. "Really?" Shae nodded and in a falsly nonchalant tone replied, "You're pretty and young, and hey, the guy's only human. But if you ask me, it takes more than that to make a marriage really succeed, doesn't it?" she challenged. Vinjera raised her eyebrows. "Your father underestimated you." "But you won't, will you, Vinjera?" Shae was giving off icy vibes, but her father's fiancée didn't take the hint. "Being young and beautiful is not a crime, you know. And for your information, I adore your father. He's just the kind of man I've always wanted to marry." She sat back and continued, "This is the real deal, honey, and NOTHING you do is going to come between us. Hate to break it to you, sugar, but you are no longer the only girl in Luke Skywalker's life. Get over it." Shae snapped back, "If this IS the real deal, then my dad's connections with the New Republic's inner circle and highest officials has NOTHING to do with you wanting to marry him?" She looked at Vinjera sweetly as she finished. Vinjera glared at her. "Okay, missy, you listen and you listen good. I'm marrying your father in two and a half weeks whether you like it or NOT. Is that clear?" Shae put on her best Jade look. "Crystal." Vinjera smiled a feral smile, got up from the chair and left the room. As soon as she was out of the room, Shae ran over to the chair, and turned on the holonet receiver. 	Ooh! I'm first! So we get the Shae/Luke discussion, Tionne knows who she is (yay! an ally!) and we get the whole Vinjera is an evil lady who is taking advantage of Luke's trustful nature/Shae discussion. I can't believe that they're getting married when they've only known each other for what, less than six weeks? So sad...well, I'm sure that Shae and Sera will put a stop to it somehow!
