Chapter 18 - A Camping We Will Go
As soon as the shuttle landed on Yavin, Sera and Shae jumped from their seats, grabbed their camping knapsacks and ran down the ramp. "Hold on Sera, Shae; Vinjera needs help with her camping bag," Luke called out to them, halting them in their tracks. Meanwhile, he started unloading the tents and packs they were taking.
Sera and Shae reluctantly glanced back, tapping their feet impatiently. They had had a boring trip, with their father and Vinjera all snuggled up together and acting cute. It hadn't endeared them to their future step-sith at all.
Vinjera walked slowly down the ramp, dressed in a sleeveless tank top and struggling to lift her large pack onto her back. She was mumbling under her breath.
"Come on, Dad, it'll take us all day to reach the usual spot," Sera whined, sounding just like her father had when he was younger.
Luke gave them a look. "That's okay. We're not in a big rush."
The girls rolled their eyes and turned to help Vinjera. She had put the pack down and, as soon as she saw that she had their attention, flounced off to wrap her arms around Luke and kiss her neck. Sera pretended to gag.
Shae grinned. "Come on, Sera, let's help Vinjera with her pack." Sera looked at her incredulously, but as she watched, Sera Force-lifted a rock over to them and stuffed it in the pack. Sera gleefully helped her twin.
After a few more minutes, Vinjera finally untangled herself from Luke and stalked back over. She barely managed to get the pack on her back. The girls heard her mumbling something about the pack being heavier than she remembered, not loudly enough for Luke to catch. The twins just shared identical grins.
***
An hour into their hike, Luke stopped. "This isn't our campsite yet, Dad," Sera complained.
"I think Vin needs a rest. Just for a few minutes," he added, trying to pacify his daughters, neither of whom were worn out.
The girls glanced at Vinjera. She was sweating, but otherwise looked fine. As fine as someone with the ambitions of a Sith could look, anyway.
"Can someone hand me my Corus Water bottle?" she panted. "I'm going to kill my personal trainer. He's says that I'm in good shape."
Luke nodded at the girls. "I'm going to scout ahead," he said. "I'll be right back." He disappeared behind a tree.
Shae sighed and looked in the heavy pack, grabbing a water bottle. Sera, not willing to be outdone by her sister's earlier trick, looked around and found a harmless Zyavene, a harmless native lizard with red spots on its back. Shae grinned and carefully placed the lizard on the end of the bottle. "Here you go," she said sweetly, handing over the bottle.
Vinjera lifted the water bottle to her mouth, took a sip, and then let out a bloodcurdling scream as the little lizard climbed up to the top of the bottle. The bottle dropped to the ground, sloshing out the rest of the precious water. Shae quickly grabbed the lizard from the ground as it tried to scurry away.
As Luke turned to look at his daughters, Shae hid the hand holding the lizard behind her.
"What did you do, girls?" he asked sternly.
"Nothing," Sera said innocently. "There was just a lizard that got on her bottle."
"It probably climbed down onto it when she was resting by that tree," Shae added, pointing to the huge one that Vinjera had been leaning against."
Luke gave them a warning look and then hefted his pack onto his back again. "Since we're coming upon some rougher areas of the forest, I want you girls help Vinjera. I'll take the lead."
"Sure you'll help me. Right over a waterfall you'll help me," Vinjera mumbled as soon as Luke was out of earshot.
That doesn't sound like such a bad idea.
Yeah, are there any waterfalls nearby?
Sera and Shae spoke in their minds, through their recently-discovered twin bond.
The girls started to follow their father, but Shae got an idea. She motioned for her sister to pass her the little lizard and, after she'd let Vinjera get a little ahead of her, set it carefully on Vinjera's head. The woman didn't notice.
Giggling silently, Shae cut through a patch of trees and rejoined her twin.
It wasn't long before they heard more screaming. Shae, Sera, and Luke turned around and hurried back to Vinjera, just in time to see the lizard creep down her face and into her mouth. Still screaming, the leggy blonde spit it out and grabbed for her spare water bottle.
"Girls," Luke said in a warning tone.
"We didn't do anything Dad."
"Yeah, we were just behind you."
Luke seemed content with that answer, so he just moved over and helped Vinjera up. Shae and Sera exchanged a covert "high-five."
***
It was nearly sunset when they finally arrived at the clearing where Luke and Sera usually camped when took their annual camping trip.
"We'll stop here," Luke called to the girls and Vinjera.
"Finally. I just hope you packed a gourmet meal in that bag of yours. I'm starved," Vinjera said, dropping her pack to the ground and nearly collapsing on top of it."
"Uh, well, actually . . ." Luke started to say.
Sera finished his sentence, "We usually eat off the land when we camp. It's part of the experience."
Vinjera looked stunned. "Wh-what?"
Sera finished attaching a hook to the line. "Want to help us fish?"
***
It was after the sun set by the time they were able to enjoy the dinner that Luke and the twins had caught. They sat on the beach around a fire. The tents were pitched, and the four were able to look out over the lake as the sun set.
"Are you sure you don't want some teyshnu, Mom?" Shae cringed as she said that special name to the woman she hated. "You don't mind if we call you 'mom,' do you?"
"No, actually, I think your mother would prefer it if you called me Vinjera. And no, once again, I don't eat teyshnu, or any other kind of fish." She brightened a little. "So, what are we having for breakfast?"
"Teyshnu," the other three replied in unison.
"Fine." She kissed Luke, hard, and stood up, saying, "Then I'm going to take some sleeping meds and go to bed." She stood up and grabbed two sticks, knocking them together as she made her way to bed.
Luke frowned. "What are you doing?"
Vinjera turned around. "I'm keeping away the rancors—" She stopped. "There
are
no rancors on Yavin IV, are there."
Luke shook his head. "No."
Vinjera threw the sticks away, gave Luke another big kiss, and headed for her tent.
"Goodnight, Sithera," Shae muttered.
Vinjera stopped. "What did you call me?
"Nothing, nothing, Vinjera." The twins waved as the woman stepped into the tent and closed the flap.
"Now, girls . . ." Luke said warningly, as soon as Vinjera had gone out of hearing range.
"Dad –" Sera started.
Luke shook his head. "Just try being a little nicer to her, please. For me."
***
Later that night, the girls quietly sneaked out of their tent and into the large one that Vinjera had set up next to their father's smaller tent. They quietly tugged her special inflatable hover mattress out of the tent and dragged it toward the water.
"She weighs as much as a bantha!" Sera whispered.
"I hope that was a large sleeping med," Shae commented back.
Together they managed to shove the hover raft out into the water, pushing it toward the deep part. As they watched it float out into the middle of the lake, they put their arms around each others' shoulders.
"Sweet dreams, mommy dearest," Shae whispered. Giggling, they made their way bak to their own tent to wait for the morning.

Ha! I absolutely loved that entire scene! Well done, and I can imagine Vinjera's reactions to the various things that the twins did to her. Thanks for the update!

A hilarious post.
I got a kick out of all the Sith reference nicknames especially "Sithera." Brilliant!
The girls glanced at Vinjera. She was sweating, but otherwise looked fine. As fine as someone with the ambitions of a Sith could look, anyway.
Too darn funny!
Very visual.
The growing connection between the twins is great to see. Now if only Luke would have a better sense of things... All in time, I guess! All in time... Just need to patient. Cannot wait for mommy dearest to have her grand exit from the scene. Wonderful chapter, ladies.

I have to agree: Sithera is such a good name for her.
I loved how there's no "rancors on Yavin IV"
Can't wait to see what happens when Sithera wakes up on the lake...
