	Hey guys, this is Nat. Liz is going to do replies asap for the last chapter since she wrote it, but I'm putting the next one up now before I forget Thanks for hanging in with us during the delays!! Chapter 19 “LUKKKKKEEEEYYYYYYY!” The twins were jerked awake by Vinjera’s scream. They grinned at each other, realizing that their stepmother-to-be must have found out what had happened to her. “Do you think we should get up?” Sera whispered. They heard the sound of their father unzipping his tent. “We’d better,” Shae decided. “He’ll know we heard her.” The two sat up and crawled out of their tent just in time to see Vinjera, who was flailing about on the mattress, fall into the lake. *** Vinjera managed to flounder her way to shore before Luke could take more than a couple of steps into the water. She snarled at him when he tried to help so he stepped back a few paces. He followed her up the beach toward the group of tents. “Vinjera, what in the galaxy happened?” he asked. “You’re not supposed to float your mattress out into the lake, you know.” She turned around and glared at him. “Actually, yes, I do know that,” she replied in a nasty voice. “And I’m not going to put up with this any longer.” She paused for a moment to brush her wet hair out of her face before flinging her hand out dramatically in the direction of the twins and saying, “As soon as we get married, I’m shipping those brats off to boarding school on Nal Hutta. So take your pick: me or them.” Luke looked bewildered for a minute, but said with clear conviction, “Them.” Vinjera looked stunned. “What?” Luke smiled at his former fiancée. “I choose them. Do you need me to spell it out for you? T-H-E-M. Them." The twins grinned at each other and high-fived. * Mara met Luke and the twins back on Coruscant. She had spent the time doing business for Karrde and catching up with Leia, whom she had always liked. She was a little worried about how the trip was going. As soon as they pulled their bags and themselves into the apartment Mara was staying in, she had a bad feeling that she had been right to be worried. “What happened?” “We’ve been grounded,” Sera said sadly. “To the end of the century,” Shae added. Mara shot a questioning glance at Luke, who merely said, “Your room. Now.” After the twins trudged off, Mara turned to Luke. “What happened? Where’s Vinjera?” Luke held up a huge diamond ring. “She threw this at my head.” He looked at the ring, then back at Mara. “Of course, it’s smaller than a training remote.” Mara pretended to be anything but satisfied. “Luke, I’m sorry,” she managed to get out. He snorted. “No you’re not,” he corrected. She put a hand on his arm and said more seriously, “Whatever happened with us, I’ve always wanted you to be happy.” Luke nodded. “I know,” he replied. “Besides, it’s not a great loss. I stopped by the academy before we left. Apparently, she’s been communicating with someone on Hapes – someone who happens to be a very pissed off former Queen Mother. I think Ta’a Chume was up to her old tricks, and Vinjera was a part of them.” Mara was surprised, but secretly glad that she was right to dislike the leggy blonde. “Think maybe you should alert Leia?” He nodded. “In the morning. For now, why don’t we go get something to eat? I’m starving.” He looked around. “And speaking of which, where’s Tionne?” “She and Kam went on a daytrip to the arctic circle to have some fun in the snow.” Luke rolled his eyes at the idea of “fun” and “snow” in the same sentence. “When did they leave?” “About lunchtime . . . yesterday.” Mara was grinning. “I think we’re on our own for the food. Luke nodded. “Is there room for me to stay here?” Mara nodded. “Then I’m going to freshen up, and afterwards I’ll help you find something edible.” Mara looked at him askance. “I hope your cooking has improved, because I really believe those stories about cooking taun-tauns on Hoth.” Luke just laughed. “You’ll have to wait and see.” * Luke looked at himself in the mirror as he straightened his shirt. He was a little nervous about dinner. Seeing Mara again, seeing their daughters together . . . he regretted that they hadn’t been a family. He wondered if maybe Mara was willing to change that. He’d missed her. Force, he’d missed her. He hadn’t realized how much until he’d seen her again. She still had her fiery beauty and fierce personality. Luke suddenly wanted to know if anything could ever happen with them again. Whistling, he made his way down the hall. He checked in on the twins, who were sitting on the bed they were sharing for a couple days in their room and playing sabacc. Shae whistled as Sera said, “Lookin’ good, Dad.” “Think so?” “Hot date?” Shae teased, grinning. “Goodnight, ladies.” With a smile, Luke shut the door, ignoring the waves. He made his way into the kitchen. Mara smiled at him. “Good news,” she said. “Tionne and Kam just commed; they’re on their way back.” Luke returned her smile. “That is good news.” He looked her over. “You look great,” he said sincerely. Mara blushed, an uncharacteristic thing for her to do. “Thank you,” she replied gracefully. “You do, too.” “So, shall we try our hands at cooking?” Luke suggested. Mara nodded. “Might as well. Since all of you are back, Shae and I can leave in the morning.” Luke froze. * It was raining when Kam finished loading the speeder. He and Tionne said a passionate goodbye before he waved at Mara and Shae to hurry up. The twins each hugged a parent and then clung to each other, not wanting to be separated. They were both crying a little. Luke kissed Mara’s cheek, his stomach in a painful knot. He hadn’t had the opportunity to tell her that he wanted her back, and now it was too late. Kam called to Mara and Shae again and, with waves at Sera and Luke, ran to the speeder. Luke put am arm around Sera’s shoulder and hugged her close. “I’m going to miss them,” he said sadly. Sera looked at him pointedly. “They’re our family. We can’t let them leave. We need them.” * Mara dropped the keys on a little table in the entranceway to the apartment. It had been an absolutely miserable ride back. Both women missed the other half of their family, though neither said it aloud. The two made their way into the kitchen for something warm to drink and were stunned to see Luke and Sera sitting at the table. “What are you doing here?” Shae yelled, running to hug her twin. "Mom, did you know Dad has a special academy shuttle that Uncle Han modified for him?” Sera asked. “It’s got special, um, features that get you to Corellia in half the time a regular shuttle would take." “No, I didn't know that." Mara stood, shocked, in the doorway. Luke stood up and made his way over to her. “Well, it took us about thirty seconds after you left to realize that we didn’t want to lose you too again,” Sera said, embracing her sister. “We?” Mara whispered, still staring at Luke. He smiled at her. “We.” Mara gulped, trying to pretend that there weren’t tears starting to spill down her cheeks. “So now I suppose you say that you need me – us – back, and we fight about where we’re going to live and how we raise the girls, and then I’ll cry and we’ll kiss and spend the rest of our lives together.” Luke reached for her. “Yes,” he said, “but you don’t have to cry.” “I think I already am.” Mara grabbed Luke and kissed him soundly on the mouth. He wrapped his arms around her and returned it soundly. 	Awesome chapter. Just awesome! Luke choosing the twins, and so blatantly, because they're his daughters and mean the world to him is just... we... Luke. It made me melt the way he just let Sithera have it And she deserved it after spewing those venomous things his way. Good for Luke! 	I don’t know why but I love the idea of Mara throwing a training remote at Luke. Luke kissed Mara’s cheek, his stomach in a painful knot. It was not, however, any of the potential rescuers she would have expected. It was Luke. ~~And the rest is history~~
