I love the twinly bonding in this chapter.
Everything from the haircutting to the ear piercing was just too cute. I love their plan and I can't wait to see Luke's reaction and Mara's reaction when the plan falls through.

Interesting point aobut the Force signatures, but since they're identical twins, i don't think that would matter. and I can't wait for the next scene.

I completely missed my lurking beacause of Algebra homework. *stupid algebra* Well I eventually read it and I loved as much, maybe more than the rest of the story.
I do wonder what Mara will say though...

Awesome!! About the Force signatures...I was wondering about that. You'd think they'd notice. But maybe since they're not expecting a swap....And Luke will probably be busy with his 'girlfriend' (can't wait to see her run-off) and maybe Mara will be busy with her job or something....i dunno. Can't wait to see how this all works out.
Great Post!

Good point about the Force signatures, but why on earth would they need the others' number?

Gee, I wonder if Mara and Luke will notice a difference? I mean, persoanlity-wise Sera and Shae are hardly different at all.

Chapter Eight: Meeting Mom
Sera walked slowly toward the ship that Marlina said was waiting for her – or, rather, Shae. She bit her lip nervously, then turned around, hoping to catch one last glimpse of Shae for moral support, but she was too far away. Sera sighed, made sure that her duffle was secure on her shoulder, and made her way to the boarding ramp.
A tall, dark-haired man was waiting for her. He was a little bit older than her father, Sera thought, but exuded the same sort of confidence, if not quite the same power. He seemed even quieter than Luke, and more withdrawn, but he managed a happy and not-forced smile when he saw her.
“Hello, Shae. Your mother asked me to pick you up. She and Aves are on a mission for Karrde, but she’ll be home by the time we reach Corellia.”
This, ten, was Kam Solusar. Shae had told her about the former Dark Jedi who often worked with their mother. Sera crossed her fingers that he wouldn’t use the Force to notice that he had never met her before. “Hi, Kam.” She impulsively gave him a hug.
He was startled for a moment, then hugged her back. “What happened to you?” he asked.
Sera blushed, realizing that Shae probably wouldn’t have done that. “Just, you know, camp. Missed you,” she managed.
Kam smiled again. “Missed you too, kid. Let’s get you home before you change too much.”
***
The flight was uneventful. Sera spent her time sharpening her sabaac skills against Kam, when he would play, and trying to act like Shae. Kam didn’t seem to notice the difference, for which she was very grateful.
They arrived back on Corellia and got through Coronet port’s security with relative ease. People in the smuggling community respected Kam, and everyone respected Talon Karrde and Mara Jade.
Kam dropped Sera off at Mara’s apartment. “Your mom’s inside,” he said. “You go do whatever it is the two of you do; I’ll stop in later.”
After another hug and a grin, Sera reached her hand over to ring the doorbell. Kam frowned. “What are you doing?”
Sera stopped, realizing that she wouldn’t ring the doorbell to her own home. “Ah, sorry,” she said. “It’s been a while.”
“I guess,” Kam said, unconvinced.
With a forced laugh, Sera pushed the door open. She reviewed the diagrams that Shae had drawn in her mind, and headed toward the kitchen.
A dignified-looking man was making his way out of it when he saw her. He stopped in his tracks and smiled. “Shae!” He held his arms out, and Sera felt sure that
this
man did regularly get hugs from Shae. She obliged.
“How was camp?” Talon Karrde asked, releasing her.
“Same as always.” She tried to speak in Shae’s uncaring tone, but excitement at meeting the man that Shae regarded as a grandfather overwhelmed her, and she couldn’t stop smiling.
“Good.” He ruffled her now-short hair. “Mara is in her bedroom, probably waiting for you by now. Go on in and see her.”
She ran off to her mother’s room as Karrde left. She stopped outside the door and took a deep breath. This was it. Her mother was on the other side of this door.
She slowly pushed it open.
Mara, hearing her daughter enter, turned around. She put her hand on her mouth. “Oh Shae, you look amazing!” There were uncharacteristic tears in her eyes. She usually didn’t let emotions control her like this, but she hadn’t realized how much she’d missed Shae until now.
“Mom,” Sear said, getting a little choked up as well. She flung herself across the room, over the bed, and into her mother’s arms. Mara held her tightly, and Sera had to hold back tears. She was finally being hugged by her mother.
Mara smoothed Sear’s hair. “I missed you, sweetie,” she whispered.
Sera hugged her mother all the tighter. “I missed you too.”
“Was camp fun?” her mother asked.
“Yes. Met up with my old friends, made a new one.”
“Good.” Mara kissed Sera’s forehead. “Why don’t we get you unpacked? Then we can spend the whole day together.”
“Sounds wonderful to me.”
***
Sera peaked inside Shae’s closet as she and her mother started hanging up clothes and putting dirty ones in the laundry bin. Her sister’s clothes were mostly plain coveralls, with dark pants and shirts mixed in. There were a couple of more formal outfits, but not very many. Sera wore similar outfits on Yavin IV, but she had lots – maybe too many – nicer things that her aunt Leia had bought her. She wasn’t sure whether to feel sorry for Shae or envy her.
“What’s this?” Mara asked.
Sera whirled around, her thoughts interrupted. Her mother was holding the stuffed Wookie that Chewbacca, her uncle Han’s Wookie friend, had gotten her when she was little. “Wok!” she said, then caught herself when her mother’s expression turned even more puzzled.
“That, er, belongs to a friend of mine,” Sera gabbled, taking it from Mara, while mentally cursing herself for not hiding her little friend better. “She can’t sleep without him. I’ll, ah, send him to her.” She tucked Wok into a corner, making a mental note to hide him from her mother. She really didn’t want to send him to Shae, who thought he was silly, and be all by herself.
“Okay,” Mara said, not pushing the matter.
Sera took another long look around the room. There were holoposters of Devin, Shae’s hottie crush, everywhere, as well as a few other young men that Sera didn’t recognize. There were holos of several people, including Karrde, Kam, and Shae and their mother. Pieces of flimsi with notes, reminders, and lifeday gift wishes strewn over every available surface. It was very different that Sera’s neater room on Yavin IV.
They continued to unpack, but Mara’s comlink started to beep. “Sorry, sweetie,” she said to Sera. “Jade here,” she answered.
Sera didn’t pay much attention until she heard her mother say, “Aves, is it that important?”
Apparently it, whatever “it” was, was important. Mara was grimacing as she ended the connection. “Aves help negotiating a deal,” she said, “and Karrde’s busy. Do you mind terribly much if we go down? It won’t take long, I promise.”
Sera smiled; she didn’t like the guilty look on her mother’s face. “I don’t mind.” Besides, this way she could see more of what her mother did.

Wonderful update! So, Sera finally meets Mara.
Funny how no one has noticed the difference... yet.

I still think it's amazing the way you guys meld the two storylines so perfectly, the way you write Mara doesn't make it seem so out of place for her to have to fight back tears upon seeing her daughter or feel guilty about having to go out on business...Can't wait to see Shae and Luke!!
