Title:
VERSUS
Author:
Jinn_Soresom, at your service.
Genre:
Action. Loads and Loads of glorious Jedi action.
Summary:
Darth Caedus overreaches his abuse of the Force, and creates his own worst enemy.
********************************************************************************************
VERSUS: Part One-The Wages of Sin
Darth Caedus, the Dark Lord of the Sith, brooded.
His flagship, the
Anakin Solo,
was gone, destroyed in the Second Battle of Endor. As hard as he had tried, Caedus hadn't been able to completely cover-up his losses there. The Holonet News Network had been playing what they dubbed "The
Falcon's
Last Stand" for almost a week now. Something about the famous vessel and her illustrious captain blowing ship after ship into dust, dodging turbolaser barrages and finally ramming the bridge of a jet-black Star Destroyer made for compelling storytelling.
Caedus had lost much that day.
It'd never occurred to him to mourn the death of his father-no, he'd lost his
ship!
Thousands of Galactic Alliance Guard personnel had been lost as well. Darth Caedus, once he'd felt his estranged sire's intentions, had quietly slipped away on his personal StealthX, leaving the crew to die. He had to keep in mind that his fate, his leadership, and his vision were of critical importance. Why, without Darth Caedus to bring order, the galaxy might descend into chaos and anarchy!
Never mind the fact that it already had.
And so Caedus brooded in the Imperial Palace on Coruscant, angry and alone.
He was always alone.
His onetime apprentice, Ben Skywalker, was apparently training to be a Jedi under the watchful eye of his aunt and cousin, the grieving Princess Leia and her daughter, Jaina Solo. After Caedus had murdered Luke Skywalker, his twin sister had wanted to come after him personally, but her condition would make that notion an impossibility for at least eight months more.
Caedus didn't know who the father was, and frankly, didn't care.
So that gave him time, time to regroup and prepare for battle. Darth Caedus had dragged out every last fighting force still in the Galactic Alliance, pressing every person of service age into the military and issuing draconian Stop-Loss edicts to keep soldiers serving long after their enlistments had expired. The fleet had mostly recovered from the disastrous Second Battle of Endor, and the forces of the GA swelled.
Caedus didn't believe in losing.
Finally, the Dark Lord turned to his holocom, preparing to contact his apprenctice. Tahiri Veila-or Darth Virulence, as he had planned to dub her-was growing more powerful in the Force, more enlightened as she obsessively searched for a way to rescue her long-lost love. Pathetic though her cause may have been, it certainly had made her useful to Caedus.
He had finished entering her contact and was about to initiate the summon when a soft voice interrupted him.
"Jacen."
It wasn't only the name-which he hadn't gone by for more than a year now-that took him back. It was the voice, a voice from the past, one that Caedus had never thought he'd hear again.
A voice that sounded very much like his own.
Turning abruptly, Darth Caedus came face to face with the ghost of his dead little brother, Anakin. An awkward pause ensued as the Sith Lord struggled to find something appropriate to say. Finally, "Hello, little brother. I suppose you've come to wish me luck, then?"
Anakin's shimmering blue aura flickered with annoyance. "I'm here on behalf of Tahiri Veila," Anakin said.
Caedus blinked. "What? Why?"
Anakin frowned. "You need to stop what you're doing to her-with this Flow Walking nonsense. She was never supposed to become a Sith Lady, and only your manipulation of the fundamental layers of reality enabled that to happen. Well, I am of the Force, and I'm here to correct the results of your meddling."
The Dark Lord barked a short laugh. "You've chosen an unusual time to arrive then, brother. Why only now, over only this?"
The spectre shook his head sadly. "You have no idea how hard I fought to try to interfere before now. When you murdered Nelani. When you killed Aunt Mara. When you killed Uncle Luke." Anakin's voice fell softer. "I know what you've done, Jacen. I saw it. All of it. And I know the secret that you carry, the blood that stains your hands." Anakin sighed. "And in the end, you really did it, didn't you?"
Jacen's eyes widened. He knew! Anakin knew about his Sacred Sin, about the one crime that he could never justify, not even to himself.
Anakin stared at his brother. "Allana."
Jacen dropped to his knees, head in his hands as he recalled the awful events that had lead to him taking the life of his own daughter...the look of fear and betrayal in her eyes as the father she'd loved drove the blade into her tiny little heart...the way the light in those eyes faded as her short life came to an abrupt end...
Anakin looked down to his brother, face stoic. "Jacen."
"Don't call me that!" Darth Caedus rose to his feet, tears staining his gaunt face, a curling sneer ripping his lip. "Jacen Solo is dead, as dead as you are. You... have to be a... hallucination. You're not real-you're some Jedi mind trick, aren't you! You're trying to make me confess to a crime I never committed!" Caedus's voice grew high-pitched and hysterical. "You're trying to trick my mind, aren't you! Get out!"
"Jacen."
The Dark Lord of the Sith lashed out with the Force. Anakin's shock was complete as he felt the esoteric powers of Darth Caedus rip into his spirit from beyond the grave. Anakin screamed as he felt himself being brutally torn from the loving embrace of the Force.
"You! It was always you!" Caedus screamed. "Han, Leia, Uncle Luke, they all loved you, and not me! Even the Force loved you more! Well let me tell you the facts of life, boy-Han is dead. Luke. Is. Dead. Leia is out of her mind in her grief. And the Force-the Force obeys
me,
obeys
my
commands and bends itself according to
my
will!" Caedus had always known that this spectre was really his long-dead brother and not some projection, but only now did he truly embrace the fact that he did not care. "I am sick of you, I am sick of your memory, and I want you gone!"
With a final burst of eldritch energy, Darth Caedus banished Anakin. His eyes flashed a golden hue as the Dark Side energies consumed every last trace of Jacen Solo.
Darth Caedus looked upon what he had done.
And he found it good.

This looks really great. I can't wait to read more. I have to admit I am really looking forward to all the plot bunnies that I have a feeling will take off from people reading Inferno. If you have a PM list please put me on it. Also you may want to double space your stories, it makes them a lot easier to read, and you'll get more readers!

How come all bad guys seem to turn into cowards one way or the other?
Jacen -- no wait -- Darth Caedus left his crew to die.
How brave.
I like the story so far. Although I was shocked about little Allana. What did she do for him to have killed her? And here I am thinking not even the meanest, most psychotic excuse for a human being would kill his own blood.
Poor Allana.
Idiot Caedus!
I hope Anakin comes back. Maybe the Force could give him back a real body and he could kick Caedus's ass all across the Galaxy.
Would serve him right.
Keep it coming! Definately wanting to read more.

Thanks for reading, guys! Something's come up, so I may not be able to update today, but if not, then look for it tomorrow.
I love making Caedus as evil as possible, and I promise you all that this story's going to be jam-packed with Anakin kicking all kinds of butt. I've got the climactic battle churning in my head, and there's going to be a twist that'll take Anakin to the breaking point.
P.S. Good idea about double-spacing. Sometimes I forget. Ever forget? Happened to me. I'll edit it.

VERSUS: Part Two-The Breath of Life
This is how it feels to be Anakin Solo:
You were at one with the Force, with the pulse of life that beat in every living being. You were nearly omniscient, and could ride the currents of the future like a ship upon the sea. You were at peace.
And then Caedus came.
Oh, how you had argued to be allowed to interfere, how you had longed to tell your brother about the truth. But the Force is of both the Darkness and the Light, and your brother had made his choice, willingly and openly.
And so you watched, horrified, as your family was torn apart and the ones you loved sent back to the Force. Your Uncle Luke was furious, though it was tempered by his reunion with his wife.
You were powerless to do anything, until Darth Caedus overreached himself, until he began to rip the fabric of reality. And the Force sent you to him.
And now...
A blinding glare of white encompasses you as you feel yourself being ripped bodily from the Force. Your state of oneness with creation is gone, and you are less, so much less, than what you were. But what are you now?
Breathe in. Breathe out.
And with that first breath, you feel the rush of life, of blood flowing through veins, of the intricate bodily functions that you have not felt for almost two decades. You have lungs now. And so you breathe. You have a heart now. And so it beats. And you have eyes now. And opening them, you can see.
This is how it feels to be Anakin Solo. This is how it feels to be alive.

Thanks for reading, everyone.
Also, Ceillean, Jacen's abandoning his crew in a StealthX was from
Inferno,
when he was planning his escape.
I would like to apologize for the gratuitous Matthew Woodring Stover ripoff. However, I think it works, and everyone else seems to like it. And I like writing it...so everyone's happy.
This next one's coming up.

VERSUS: Part III-Forcing the Gates of Hell and Madness
This is how it feels to be Darth Caedus:
Alone, unloved and unlovable, you plan your next move. It's obvious that the stinking masses can no longer be trusted to obey your orders, to sacrifice as you have sacrificed.
Traitors, the lot of them.
Don't they recognize that everything you've done, everything you plan on doing, is for their own good? That if everyone saw the truth of Darth Caedus and obeyed him, a new golden age of the galaxy would arise?
You are the Gardener, and your weeds are growing out of control.
Allana...
In some dim corner of your mind, you know that you murdered her. You know that there was one person and one person only who was responsible for her death, who drove the blade into her heart, who stole the breath from her lips.
You.
But that can't be! You are Darth Caedus, the true Master of the Force, the new Chosen One, who will lead the people out of the darkness of ignorance and savagery and into the light of your new civilization.
You.
You can't admit the truth, not even to yourself. You cannot bring yourself to think the words.
If I can't have you, than no one can...
And then you feel it. A presence you have not felt since...
You!
Like a beacon burning in the Force, your little brother bursts back onto the scene. It's not possible. It's certainly not fair. But it's undeniable.
Anakin Solo walks the world once more. And he's furious.
You need to move quickly. Stepping out into the observation platform of the old Imperial Palace, you look out across the vista of Coruscant.
Mine.
You force your Will through the twisting labrynth of the world-wide city. You can feel the pulse of the billions of sentient beings who make their lives on the capital world.
Mine.
Having reached out, you then clench the fist. You drive your Will into the collective beings of all of those people, breaking them and imposing yourself into the deepest recesses of their very souls.
Mine!
Billions of sentients...to feed your strength. The rush of power, of unspeakable power, drives you to your knees. It is as if you had been blind your entire life, and now, only now do you truly see. You are now more powerful than Luke had ever dared dream of being, more powerful than any other who has ever lived. You will crush your brother, and if he comes again, you will simply kill him again until he gets the point. You will subjugate the very stars, and the Force itself will prostrate itself before your might.
This is how it feels to be Darth Caedus.
This is how it feels to be a god.

VERSUS: Part IV-When We Are Dead And Done to Dust
The memorial was to be consecrated today. The Wookiees of Kashyyk had errected a statue of the late, great Han Solo, to stand eternally with his best friend, Chewbacca, and his lost son, the indomitable Anakin. The good Captain Solo had been much loved by the Wookiees for all of the valorous deeds that he had done on their behalf; indeed, it was often said of him that he had "the heart of a Wookiee," the greatest honor that the tree people could bestow on an alien. He would be missed.
What was left of the Solo-Skywalker clan had gathered on a raised dais to speak on his behalf. Of the once great and proud family, only four remained: the widowed Leia Organa Solo, leaning on her daughter, Jaina, for support. There was the sixteen year-old orphan, Ben Skywalker, more a man than a boy now, doing the best to do his duty and to do justice to the legacy of his slain parents; and there was the unborn child that Jaina carried in her womb, the very incarnation of the dimming hope and promise of the future.
Where once there were many, there were now few, far too few.
Ben stepped forward to address the assembled Wookiee and Jedi.
"We have gathered here today to remember one of the greatest men that has ever lived. My Uncle Han was a man of honor, of courage, and of compassion. Han Solo was many things, and some of them were unsavory. He was a criminal, this much is true, a smuggler and a scoundrel. But he came of age in a time when the law was unjust-and so the just became outlaws."
"Though he had always denied being a good person, Han Solo was compassionate and kind. He sacrificed a promising career in the Imperial Navy in order to save a Wookiee that he could not bear to see in shackles."
The Wookiees in the audience
whuffed
in approval. That was the reason above all else why Han was so beloved by the Wookiee people.
"That Wookiee was, of course, the great Chewbacca. He justly swore a life debt to Han, and the two began a lifelong friendship. Whenever one saw Han Solo, the Wookiee was not far behind. Under the wise guidance of Chewbacca, Uncle Han managed to blunder his way into the Rebel Alliance-and into the heart of a Princess."
Leia squeezed her daughters hand, a tight smile on her face as she struggled to control her emotions.
"Han Solo may have been a smuggler and a mercenary, but when you befriended him, he would be with you until the bitter end. And so it was that Han returned during the Battle of Yavin to rescue-" Ben started to choke up, but quickly regained his composure. "Excuse me. Han returned to the Battle of Yavin to rescue my father, and cleared the way for him to destroy the Empire's feared Death Star. This was the pivotal moment of Uncle Han's life, and it set him on a new path, one of Rebellion, of duty, of friendship, and of love."
From across the way, Anakin Solo watched his father's funeral. He so ached to comfort his family, especially his poor mother. But he knew that he would create a shock, and he wanted to keep their minds on his late father. He remembered the good times that he had, like when Han had taught him how to fire a blaster, or how to pilot a landspeeder. He also remembered how his father had told him a story about how Uncle Luke's hand had done battle against that of Darth Vader, and how he had believed that story until he was six. Anakin loved his father, and missed him terribly. All living things return to the Force, but it hurt to know that even then, his father would never manifest himself like his Aunt and Uncle.
"Good bye...Dad."
Ben continued his speech. "Han was a loving husband, a great father, a leader of men, and a hero to all. He was the last of his breed, a man of independence and casual lawlessness. He was freedom incarnate, and he died to keep that freedom alive. He was brave and bold to the point of sheer recklessness. He was vivid and bright, a dash of life and color in a time when all seemed to despair into darkeness. And now that his star is gone, the galaxy already seems less bright, less full. It may be that we here may never fully comprehend the magnitude of his loss. But his legend will live on in myth and song, and he will inspire generations to come when we are dead and done to dust."
Ben knelt down at the feet of the statue and place Han's favorite blaster on a small altar. "Goodbye, Uncle Han. We will always love you."
The young Jedi rose, unsure if he had forgotten something. Then he returned to his family, to give what comfort he could to his Aunt and cousin. Leia hugged him. "Thank you, Ben," she said, her voice thick with hurt. She thanked the guests for coming, and then excused herself, saying that she needed time alone with her family for the moment.
Anakin waited until his family had retired to their current residence, then followed.
Inside, Leia finally broke down and launched herself into her daughter. Jaina held onto her, shocked to see just how fragile her mother was. For as long as she could recall, Jaina's mother had been the solid rock onto which everyone had depended on, the foundation of their lives. But now, time, stress, and grief had worn that rock down, and Leia looked old, tiny, and, for the first time, beaten.
Ben hugged his Aunt, then sat down in a corner to collect himself. Anakin, waiting outside, figured that he might as well do it now. He stepped into the doorway.
This is how it feels to be Princess Leia Organa Solo:
It's as though all the universe bears down on you and only you. And what has it gotten you? One of your sons is dead, and the other has been twisted into an evil monster, callous and cruel beyond all recognition. Your twin brother had sacrificed himself, and your husband, your dear sweet scoundrel, went down in a blaze of glory.
He would of loved that. The nerf.
Now you're daughter's all you've got left-and her child. You fear for the future, and sometimes, in the dark of night, when you've woken up alone in a cold and empty bed, you wonder if it would be better if you had died after Endor. If it would be best if you and Han and Luke had just left this world then, before it all went to hell.
And then you see him.
A bitter laugh escapes you. It's just typical, that with all you've gone through, with all you've endured, that your mind finally just snapped. And then you hear him speak.
Mom.
And you feel him-in the Force! You see your daughter's jaw drop, and know that this is no hallucination, just before he embraces you, lifting you up and smothering you with unconditional love.
Hot tears stream from your eyes, but you don't care. Your baby, your youngest, dear and darling boy, is here again, and in that moment, life becomes worth living again.
This is how it feels to be Leia Solo.
This is how it feels to be a mother.
"How?"
Anakin sat down. "The Force sent me here after Darth Caedus overstepped his bounds. There are rules, rules that you cannot comprehend, and the newest Sith Lord has broken one. I'm here to set things right-or at least as right as I can."
The returned Jedi was seated on a small divan with his mother and sister both clinging on to him as though they'd never let him go again. Ben sat across from him, studying his illustrious cousin thoughtfully.
Anakin offered him a smile. "I know you, Ben. Your father and mother won't be able to reach you for a time, but they sent a message-they love you very much, no matter what, and they have faith that you'll do right by them."
Ben nodded, stoically concealing his pain. "We're going to need to work together to take down Caedus."
"I agree. We're going to need to move quickly-he's made his ploy, and if we don't remove him soon, he may become nearly invincible."
Leia, through great force of will, let go of her son. "I need to get the Council, if it's as urgent as you say."
Anakin nodded. "Mom-"
She reached down and ran a hand along his cheek. "I know."
They needed no more words than that.

RE: VERSUS (Darth Caedus vs. Anakin Solo) UPDATED, Two Chapters, 9/7
I'm so sorry your computer crashed. But I so know the feeling. Makes you want to hurt someone, doesn't it?
I love the Stover-technique you're using. It's the one thing that's been stuck in my head since "Traitor", the way the guy wrote. It's different but it get's your attention stuck.
And it really fits the story.
This is how it feels to be Darth Caedus.
This is how it feels to be a god.
Jacen's definately lost it now. And still I like the guy! Can you believe it?
But, yeah, the man's gone crazy. Everything is his now, huh?
Well, that's no good. It's like when a kid thinks all toys in his playroom are his alone and all of a sudden the kid has to share.
Jacen reminds me of that kid. Jacen wouldn't want to share.
I feel sorry for people who cross Jacen's way.
And back comes Anakin to kick his brother's behind! Yay!
I so hope he succeeds.
The Mom/Son scene was very nice, too. Leia must be totally broken up inside and seeing Anakin gives her hope again.
Oh, one question though: who's Jaina's babies Dad? That's been bugging me since starting this story.
Great job!

I claim Kyp Durron.
I'm developing this thing for Captain Kirk.

"You ... you ... Am I the only one here who simply wants to punch Master Skywalker in the nose?"
Perfect couples K/J,H/L,A/T,L/M
Jacen is dirt and Mara rocks
Jaina or Mara who is better
Zekk or Kyp no Jag
