I'm planning to reveal him kind of more towards the end. A big surprise. A finale. You get the idea. Abby How difficult it must be for Jaina to trust Jacen, even this alternate-universe Jacen who doesn't seem to be heading down the path her own Jacen did. A confusing time for Jaina, for sure. Trying to deal with the absolute betrayal of her brother, her twin, the other half of herself, while coming face-to-face with the Jacen that her Jacen should have been. Wondering what caused her Jacen to turn and not this Jacen . . . was it something that could have been prevented? If so, when, where, and by whom? What happened or didn't happen in her reality that caused the difference? Was it Anakin's death, or something else? Something she did, or didn't do? And how could she trust this Jacen, so fresh from the betrayal of the other. The desire to have her brother back and the fear that this one would betray her too. Then there's Anakin . . . alive and well here in this other universe. How that must break her heart even more! At least she seems able to trust him, has found an ally in him. Would she be feeling like her universe betrayed her, tearing both her brothers away from her, one in death, the other to the Sith, while the Jaina of this universe gets to keep them both? On top of everything, she's having visions of what happened to her to send her here, and that has to be enough to send her emotions into chaos. Powerful, and well done! Wow, you hit the nail straight on the head! Right on all counts! You really managed to say what I'm trying to convey. I could use your help! Thanks, I'm glad you like it! Lanta This is really interesting, with a lot of potential. I don't know why, but somehow strong characters like Jaina breaking down always draws me to a story. I'll eagerly await more of this fic! 	Okey-dokey... here's the next postie. The end of this... man, it was fun. I know I already asked, but I guess it doesn't hurt again since I didn't get any answers... what do you think of Zane, Riley, and the crew? But enough chitter-chatter. Enjoy! - Serena “How bad was it?” She shuddered. “Never mind. Let’s change the subject.” “To what?” She asked bitterly, folding her arms across her chest and glaring at the passer-bys as she walked along one of the busy city streets with her supposed-to-be-dead brother. “We don’t have anything in common. You’re dead.” “Not here. Let’s catch up. How about I tell you what happened in our universe?” Jaina rubbed her forehead. “That’ll just make me feel worse, but if you want to,” she said tiredly. Anakin frowned. “Then I won’t. I’m just trying to alleviate your pain, Jaya. I hate seeing you this depressed.” Jaina smiled sadly. “Anakin, you’re the best brother I ever had. You don’t know how much I enjoy talking with you again. I missed you so much.” She clenched her teeth. “Well, I’m here now,” he replied gently, rubbing her shoulder. “So talk.” “About what?” “Anything. Everything. Ships, lightsabers, holo-games – anything. I’m here for you.” Jaina threw him another sad smile. “I know, Anakin. I know.” She sighed and was silent for a moment. Then, “What happened with the Yuuzhan Vong?” He shrugged. “It wasn’t that bad. We only lost a few planets – luckily we had many Jedi and millions of soldiers, so the battles weren’t that terrible. We defeated them in a few years.” She stared at him. “Why? Was it so bad for you?” He gazed at her intently. “Bad isn’t the right word,” she said, dazed. “The galaxy was traumatized. We lost so many innocent lives… worlds… Jedi. That’s when we lost you.” He nodded in understanding. “I see.” “That war was nearly the undoing of the galaxy as we knew it,” she said, more to herself. “I still don’t think, even now, we’re fully recovered. But now the Vong are the least of our worries.” She looked down. “Then what is?” She licked her lips. “A new Sith. One more powerful than any I’ve encountered. He nearly killed Luke. He killed Mara.” Tears came to her eyes once again, and she swallowed. “He’s evil,” she whispered. Anakin studied her. “How did he come to be?” He asked quietly. She shook her head. “I don’t know. I don’t know!” She began to shake, sobbing. “He shouldn’t have turned! He shouldn’t have! Why did he have to turn?” “Jaina! It’s okay!” Anakin took her gently in his arms. “It’s all right!” Suddenly, Jaina’s eyes, which had been closed, snapped open. “Oh Force,” she gasped, “he’s coming. He’s coming!” “Who’s coming?” Anakin demanded. Jaina wouldn’t answer. “Look, this is Jedi Master Kyp Durron requesting permission to land in the hangar,” Kyp said, irritated. Zane looked at him. On the other end, a voice said, “I don’t know who you are, but Master Durron is already on the premises. I suggest you stop trying to pretend that you are he, sir.” “I am Kyp Durron, you bantha-brained idiot!” “I will open fire if you don’t-” There was a pause. “Excuse me. You’ve been granted permission to dock in bay 32. Sorry for the inconvenience.” “Inconvenience, my-” “Thank you,” Zane shouted into the comm before flicking it off. He looked up at Kyp, who was standing beside him. “That was unnecessary,” he remarked. Kyp glowered. “That guy was a jerk. He deserved more.” “Such a great Jedi,” Zane said sarcastically. Kyp shot him a wry smile. “Oh, you haven’t seen me at all yet. Wait till I bring out the lightsaber and start hacking people down. That’s the fun part.” Zane raised an eyebrow. “You sure you’re not some kind of mental patient?” “I resent that. I’m perfectly healthy.” “You mean you resemble that.” “Shut up, would you?” “Hey, you’re on my ship.” “But if I kill you then it won’t be your ship anymore.” Riley rolled her eyes. “Both of you, shut up!” Zane shrunk back into his seat, abashed. Kyp snickered, but stopped immediately when Riley glared at him. “Is she always like this?” He muttered to Zane. “Gets it from being an assassin,” replied Zane. “She’s the toughest girl this side of Coruscant.” Kyp raised his eyebrows. “How interesting.” A young man with icy blonde hair and sickly yellow eyes purposefully strode the streets of Coruscant. He wore dark clothing, and his expression was hateful and resentful. He entered a mechanic’s shop and went up to the owner. “Get me one of these,” he snapped, throwing down a holo of a specially made piece of metal. The mechanic raised his eyebrows. “Darn kids,” he muttered under his breath, but went to get the item. When he returned, he placed it on the counter and said, “That’ll be thirty credits.” The young man smiled falsely, and the next thing the owner knew, he was being choked to death by an invisible force. The young man waited until he was dead before using another invisible force to hurl him into a wall. “Have a nice day,” he hissed through his teeth, and walked out the door as if nothing had happened. As he checked his list, he pocketed the piece of metal. “Almost done,” he grinned. “Skywalker, your day to die is coming. Soon.” Caedus sat in a dark corner of a café, watching the HoloNet on one of the nearby screens. “The news of the marriage between Kyp Durron and Jaina Solo says that the happy couple wishes to marry in only a month, just a few weeks after they got engaged. It looks as if Durron isn’t wasting any time,” the reporter smiled. Caedus snorted. “Moving on to other members of the Solo clan, it seems as if Anakin Solo and Tahiri Veila are going steady in their relationship as well. The younger son of famed heroes Han Solo and Leia Organa Solo was seen with the lovely young woman on Ossus, sharing a tender moment, and eyewitnesses say they saw the couple sharing some kisses. “Moving onto Queen Mother Tenel Ka and Jedi Knight Jacen Solo…” Caedus’s yellow eyes flashed dangerously, and he sat up. “… Although they have not told the media any such news, it would appear that the elder Solo son is preparing to ask the big question to the Queen Mother of Hapes,” the reporter smiled. “The Solo family is finally settling down. Moving onto the Skywalker family… rumors have been confirmed: Mara Jade Skywalker is pregnant! She confirmed this to one of our agents only a few hours ago. The Skywalkers have not said what the sex of the unborn child is, but the Lady Skywalker said that she and Master Luke Skywalker wish to wait until the baby was born. Back to you, Jas.” Caedus, upon hearing the last bit of information, choked on his caf and stared at the screen. His supposed-to-be –dead aunt was pregnant. Hmm… the child would be very powerful, just as Ben is… maybe I could use that to my advantage. But first, Jaina. She has to be broken. His eyes glittered with dark amusement. Once the ship touched the ground, Kyp instantly turned and left the bridge, Zane and Riley hot on his heels. “Hey,” Zane called, jogging up to the older Jedi. “Mind if we join?” Kyp shrugged. “Sure. So far you guys are the only people I know in this Force-crazed reality, so why not?” He touched the control for the ramp, and it began to go down. “What do you expect to find out there?” Riley asked. Kyp shook his head and began to walk down the ramp. “Beats me.” He didn’t get another chance to say anything else because an eerily familiar voice said from the bottom of the ramp, “That’s impossible. Nothing ‘beats me.’” There, standing proudly and sternly at the bottom of the ramp was Kyp Durron. Zane couldn’t resist grinning and followed the Kyp he knew down to the end of the ramp. “Kyp Durron – meet Kyp Durron. Or have you met?” He joked. 	Oh Force the two Kyps was just too funny! Two Kyps = too many!!! the rest of it was all a little confusing, but I know time will help it to all come together. 	Sorry to keep you waiting! Enjoy! “This is… interesting,” Kyp said to his alternate self as they strode towards the Solo residence. “Tell me about it,” the other grunted. Then, he looked at him. “What happened to Jaina?” “She is here, isn’t she?” Kyp glanced at him sharply for confirmation. “It was pretty bad what her…” he checked himself, “What the Sith lord in our universe did to her.” He was silent for a moment, and then he growled, “Listen, this is becoming confusing. We can’t just keep calling each other Kyp.” Zane, who was walking beside Riley a few feet behind them, piped up, “I think you should wear different colored cloaks.” Both rounded on him, and he shrank back. One Kyp Durron was intimidating enough; two was just downright scary. Even Riley was slightly disturbed. “This is my cloak and I’m not taking it off,” both Durrons snarled together. Then they both traded startled looks. Riley had quickly regained her composure and said, “Why don’t we just call you something different, then? We’ll call you, the Kyp Durron we know, Kyp, and we’ll call the Kyp Durron we don’t know Durron.” “So,” Kyp from the universe with Darth Cadeus, “I’m Kyp? And he’s-” he motioned to the Kyp who was engaged to Jaina “-Durron?” Riley nodded. “Exactly. But I’m afraid Zane’s right. Names aside – you both look exactly the same. You’ll have to wear something to distinguish your differences. Something obvious right away.” She paused deliberately. “Which means... the capes.” Both Kyps looked at each other. “Not me,” they both snapped. “I’ll choose for you, then!” Riley hissed, and reached out and snatched the cape off the Kyp she didn’t know, folding it neatly and packing it under her arm. Durron stared at her. “My cape…” he said in disbelief. Kyp grinned despite himself and held his worn, ragged olive-colored cape closer to himself. “Too bad,” he said with false sympathy and continued on. Durron shot a vicious glare to Riley, but she merely smiled innocently and pushed past him. Zane smothered a laugh and jogged to keep up with her fast pace. “Why me?” Durron growled. They reached the Solo residence in around fifteen minutes, and Durron pressed the bell. “Just a minute!” Someone called. At that voice, Kyp’s hand went to his lightsaber, his eyes flashed, and he stiffened noticeably. Durron frowned. “What’s the matter with you?” The door opened to reveal Jacen Solo. He looked at the newcomers and did a double take while looking at both Kyps. “Uh… Kyp?” “That’s me,” Durron said wearily, raising a hand. “I’m the Kyp without a cape.” “Catchy,” Riley smirked. Kyp, meawhile, had not stopped glaring at Jacen, whose gaze turned to him. “So you’re the Kyp from Jaina’s timeline?” Jacen said. “Nice to meet you… again.” “Not so sure about that,” Kyp spat viciously. Jacen’s eyebrows went up. “I’m sorry?” “Where is she?” Kyp growled. “Kyp?” Everyone turned to see Jaina coming down the hall beside Ben and Mara. Kyp went pale as he saw the engagement ring on Jaina’s hand and even paler he looked at the very alive Mara. “Jaina,” he breathed, his gaze shifting back to Jaina. “Is that… you?” “No,” Mara said, seemingly unperturbed that two Kyps occupied the hall. “Your Jaina’s with Anakin.” “Anakin?” Kyp choked. “Anakin Solo?” “The one and only,” Jaina said softly. “You’re from the same universe that she is?” He nodded slowly. “Yeah... when will she be back?” “Soon,” Mara assured him. “She went for a walk in the city. Does she know you’re here?” Kyp shook his head. “I’m not sure. This whole situation has been… confusing to say the least.” “How do we tell you apart?” Ben asked suddenly. “The cape,” both Kyps said. “I’m wearing one,” Kyp said, “And Durron’s not. Call me Kyp, and him Durron.” Durron waved. “It’s me, Mara.” Mara nodded. “That’s a better plan. In that case, we should call our Jaina ‘Solo’, and the other Jaina ‘Jaina.’” Jaina silently agreed by an inclination of the head. “Are there two you’s, Mom?” Ben asked, looking to Kyp for confirmation. Kyp swallowed, and his eyes became duller and full of pain. “I… I can’t tell you,” he said, his voice emotionless in contrast to his expression. Mara’s eyes narrowed, but she didn’t press the issue. “Fine. Well, let’s get inside, everyone. I imagine Han and Leia will want to know what’s been happening with their… alternate daughter in the other universe.” “Yes,” Jacen spoke, glancing at Kyp, “Maybe you can explain why she’s so … different. It’s not like Jay at all.” “And maybe I’ll tell you to leave my Jaina alone,” Kyp lashed out suddenly. Jacen took a step back into the apartment, stunned. “You don’t know what she’s been through,” Kyp hissed, his hazel eyes locked onto Jacen’s brown ones. “You don’t know the pain and betrayal she’s had to face!” “Then tell me!” Jacen shouted, growing frustrated. “Why would I tell you?” Kyp thundered, his hand going back to his lightsaber. Durron stepped in between them. “Hey, you two, calm down,” he said sternly. “This isn’t doing us any good if you both keep at each other’s throats. We have to be calm for Jaina’s sake.” “He’s right,” Solo agreed, walking up to her fiancé and looking from Kyp to Jacen. “I don’t know what happened to Jaina in your world, but I know that I wouldn’t want you all to be fighting. When she comes back, she might open up with you. I know I would.” She squeezed Durron’s hand. “Can you contact her through the Force and let her know you’re here?” Mara questioned as they entered the apartment. Kyp shook his head. “I haven’t been able to sense her. My telepathy’s been off lately. I can’t seem to focus. Maybe this whole jump-into-another-universe thing messed me up.” “Kyp?” Luke’s voice came from the right, and Kyp turned to see his longtime friend standing in the doorway of the kitchen. Luke’s gaze flickered to Kyp, then Durron, then to the others. “This is… interesting,” he said finally, drawing forward. Kyp smiled wearily and clasped Luke’s hand in his own. “Been hearing that a lot lately. I'll have to make that that trademark phrase for Kyp Durron. Nice to see you, Luke,” he greeted in a tired voice. “I know this is whacked, but we’ll try to get back to our universe ASAP.” Luke motioned to the open living area. “You look like you’ve seen better days, Kyp,” he said. “Come on in, have a seat. Threepio will get you something to drink. Han and Leia are out talking with Isolder and Teneniel, but they’ll be back soon.” “Teneniel?” Kyp said, confused. “But isn’t she… isn’t she dead?” Luke shook his head. “Not the last time I checked.” His blue eyes fell as he studied his friend. “I’m sorry, Kyp. It looks like your universe was pretty bad.” Kyp snorted and stared out the window. “That’s an understatement.” “How bad?” Solo asked hesitantly. Kyp didn’t look at her. “Bad.” With everyone settled into the now crowded living area, Mara asked suddenly, “Who are you two?” And looked hard at Zane and Riley. “We’re friends of Kyp’s,” Riley said shortly, her arms folded over her chest. “We met a few days back and gave him the ride here.” “Kyp Kyp or Alternate Kyp?” Luke asked. Kyp said, “Me, Luke. And from now on – at least as long as we’re here – call me Kyp and your Kyp ‘Durron’, and my Jaina ‘Jaina’ and your Jaina ‘Solo.’” “How come it isn’t the other way around?” Ben piped up. “After all, you’re the ones from the different universe.” Kyp opened his mouth to reply, but he bolted to his feet and his face became deeply concerned and anxious. “Jaina!” He blurted out. The others turned to the hallway to see Anakin Solo practically holding up the shaking body of a very pale Jaina Solo. And so it continues!
