	Nice use of lit class. Flannery can get a tad boring. I loved the explanation of Leia's captivity, as brief as it was. You're doing some really cool things with Mara here too. I loved the line about the "last command," and the comment about Jacen being just like Luke was before he fell. So are we going to get more on Leia's fall when she talks with Jaina nest? 	The updates have now resumed regularly! Today's installment is a special one- a bit of backstory from Leia. Oh yes, there's more coming... The regular updates should be on Wednesdays, late at night. “Jacen. Jacen. Where are you? Come back to me…” Jaina could hear her own voice, calling for her brother. She saw lightning, crackling strands of energy… something attacking, something unusual… “Oh, Force, not her again…” Leia’s voice brought Jaina back to reality, aboard a strange shuttle. “Who?” Jaina was instantly alert. “Do you know what’s wrong with Jacen? Tell me! Please?” Leia shook her head. “You’re too innocent. I don’t want to destroy that.” “Innocent after seven years more or less on my own?” Jaina pushed. “You obviously know about what happened to Uncle Luke. I’ll keep it a secret if you want. Just please tell me.” Jaina wondered if she’d said something wrong as Leia turned away, appearing nervous and thoughtful at the same time. “It’s obvious that you’ll stop at nothing to free Jacen,” Leia began. “It’s only right that I tell you the truth, since you’ll probably find out anyways and I’d rather you get the whole story from me instead of bits and pieces from someone like Mara or worse yet, him. “I honestly don’t know what happened to Luke. He never really went into it; what I know is mostly from rumors and from a night on the town with Mara that ended in her being a very talkative drunk. Knowing Luke, he lied and never did fully explain what happened. “You recall, Jaina, from a history lesson the name of Shira Brie. A former Rebel pilot who turned out to be an Imperial spy, and now is a Sith. She found Luke and something happened, somehow he accepted her Sith teachings. I’ve never asked how, and Mara didn’t know. “Mara was lured back to the Dark Side by threats from someone whom I don’t care to mention now. You wouldn’t know her, and I don’t think you’d want to. She’s very smart, but not a Force sensitive. Honestly I don’t know where Mara met-“ Leia caught herself for a moment- “met this person, but something about her was strong enough to bring Mara back to the Sith. I believe she’s trying to be Luke’s Sith apprentice, as he is the Dark Lord of the Sith now. How he fell so far, so fast still puzzles me. “Luke tried to convert me to the Sith right after I was captured. Considering what I went through, I have no idea why I’m either alive or sane. Jaina, I doubt my own sanity so often now, even more so when I heard about you. I told Luke after four and a half years that I wasn’t interested, and I walked out. “I ran into another Imperial who I could have sworn was dead. I know who supposedly killed her, but apparently she wasn’t dead after all. After a rather sticky encounter with her, I left Imperial space and went as far away as I could get. “Luke pursued me and spent quite a bit of time chasing me, but somehow I stayed away from him. Just by listening to the gossip, I established that you and Jacen were still alive, and I had planned to find you two and find a way to protect you. That probably wouldn’t have been a good idea, considering that I am almost dark and in all likelihood, not entirely sane anymore. “Right now, all I want is Luke either back to the light or dead. I don’t care which one, as long as I get to kill him if need be. And I’d like to see the Empire destroyed, and another Republic established. And perhaps…” Leia’s voice drifted off. “Perhaps our family can be reunited again.” Jaina jumped up quickly at the end of her mother’s story. “Mom, where’re Dad and Anakin? Who are these other Imperials that you mentioned? Where’s Chewie? Why aren’t you telling me everything?” “Jaina, you’re acting like you’re five years old again,” Leia hissed. “I was hoping you wouldn’t ask. But I already told you that I’d explain everything…. “I have no idea where your father is. I haven’t seen him since… well, you know when, and the same for Chewie. Knowing the way Luke is now, I don’t want to think about what could have happened. “Anakin is hidden somewhere, and I’m not telling you where. You don’t have any mental defenses, and Luke would pry that information out of you in an instant. All I’ll say is that he’s safe. “Those other two Imperials are going to remain unnamed. Shall we say that they have very long reaches and are a good deal smarter than we would expect.” “You still haven’t told me what’s happening to Jacen.” “Jacen has been captured, and Luke wants to make him a Sith too” “Then we have to go rescue him!” Leia coldly regarded Jaina. “If you do that, you’ll be captured and probably executed or worse. Don’t bother; it would be a lot easier to redeem a Sith than to get into Luke’s lair again and rescue your brother. Your staying alive is the top priority now.” Leia left the passenger area of the shuttle, signaling an end to the conversation. Jaina collapsed back in the seat, confused. “Mom, you’ve changed,” she whispered. Something was very wrong, and it was clear that the evil Emperor was at the center of it. Enjoy! 	Ohhh, so much information, and yet none of the holes are close to filled- great! I don't want this to stop anytime soon. It was good to hear that Anakin is somewhere safe, but Han and Chewie make me sad. I can only hope for them right now, since Luke could easily find them if he wanted to. As to where Anakin could be, that's puzzling. Hopefully he has better company than Threepio. Hope to see more of these two next update, and catch up with Mara's efforts. 	A new post! Don’t bother; it would be a lot easier to redeem a Sith than to get into Luke’s lair again and rescue your brother. - that in itself shows how dark Leia is, that she either thinks that her capture is inevitable or that the ends justify the means - in this case as long as Jacen ends up alright, it doesn't matter what happened in the intervening years. There is something beyond the temporal that our heroes must worry about... padawanlost: Some of the holes will be filled. You're going to learn the identity of one of those Imps today, and a hint to the identity of the other is in this post too! Yikes...spending seven years with Threepio for company... now that's a good reason to go to the Dark Side. I haven't thought much about Han and Chewie, but let's hope this story doesn't go to Han-cide like one other did... And you'll have to stay in suspense for another week before we learn more of Mara! Jaina_Solo_Goddess: Oh yes, Leia is a bit darker than I'd originally planned. You'll see how much she cares about Jacen... or is it just a wish for vengeance against Luke? Mwahahaha. Here is today's installment, a bit shorter than usual. You wouldn't believe the characters that knock on the door of my room, pull out a lightsaber or blaster, and demand to be included in the next chapter... Assume that anything that deviates from canon will be explained. “I’m not going to turn. I’m not going to turn. I promised… I promised I wouldn’t turn…” Jacen could hear this mantra in the back of his mind, a constant reminder of what had happened. The lightning… “I can’t let him destroy me…” “Stop deluding yourself, kid. You’re here because the Emperor wants me to help turn you. I’ll admit now that I’m not Force-sensitive, but after this long, I know about mind control. Do as you’re told or else.” Jacen looked up to find himself in a rather small metal room. The room looked like an Imperial prison cell, with metal walls and harsh fluorescent lighting. At the door was a strange woman, who Jacen knew he had seen before and yet could not place… Black and white hair. One eye red, the other blue. Tall and slim, wearing a red Admiral’s uniform. Jacen knew this person… “Iceheart…” “So you do know who I am.” Isard coldly regarded Jacen, not trying to conceal the contempt in her voice. “First question: will you accept the fate that the Emperor has planned for you, or will you require convincing?” “I’ve already decided not to do anything the Emperor wants.” Jacen’s mind was racing. He had heard the horror stories about Isard…total ruthlessness, a distinct lack of morality, willing to do anything to benefit the Empire… If Jacen did not find a way out of… “This is the Lusankya, isn’t it?” Isard nodded. “I’m gonna die.” “Correct.” Jaina tried to sit down and relax on the long hyperspace journey to wherever Leia was going, but just the thought of Jacen’s fate made this impossible. Jacen could be anywhere. He could be falling already, and there was nothing Jaina could do here, stuck in a small shuttle with a non-talkative half-mad almost-Sith! She was about ready to ask where they were, find out anything that might help her rescue Jacen… “You’re too obsessed with him.” Leia muttered from the cabin door. “Forget about it for a little while and just concentrate on the present.” “Where are we going?” Jaina had to ask. “Nowhere that you’d be familiar with.” A jolt of fear and a frightening memory came through the Force, a clear sign from Jacen. Jaina jumped up, aware of where she had seen the face that now floated in front of her… “Mom, please tell me, is Iceheart… still alive?” Leia instantly looked suspicious. “Why do you ask?” “Jacen’s in trouble, and the image I’m getting is of Iceheart…” “In that case, you get your wish. We’re going back to Coruscant to rescue your brother. After what that evil woman did to me… I hate to think what she’d do to Jacen…especially if Luke wants Jacen turned…” One more piece of the puzzle, Jaina thought. So that’s who Mom ran into when she left the Sith, and Iceheart gave her a lot of trouble. But there’s just one problem with this… “Iceheart was supposed to be dead when I was about three.” “You wouldn’t believe how many incarnations Imps go through,” Leia hissed scornfully. “The one who brought Mara back…don’t know how she survived, what with her luck, her choice of lovers, and her utter lack of common sense… Never mind. Stay here and don’t do anything stupid while I get this ship back to Coruscant.” Next week, we will return to Mara. Maybe you'll find out more to fill in the holes. Maybe not. Sith are tricky characters to work with. Jade_eyes: Thanks! padawanlost: Jaina is very determined and will do anything to rescue Jacen. If only she knew what she's getting into... and oh yes, Isard means trouble. We'll see more of her later... Today, we see some of Mara's thoughts. Beware. Mara was not concerned at all about Luke’s plans. She had just walked out of the detention level of the Palace, convincing the guards to look away through bribery, Force suggestions, and intimidation. It was so easy; no one would protest what the Empress was doing. And what is the Empress doing? Mara thought bitterly. She had spent the past seven years toying with Luke like a sadistic nexu, catching him in her traps and letting him go. It was only a matter of time before Luke finally fell victim, and then Mara could do as she wished to the galaxy. Hiding Ben hadn’t been the hard part. She didn’t care if Ben fell to the Dark Side, but she wanted it done by her terms. The same with Leia; there had been too many people involved in the attempt to turn Leia. No wonder it failed. Mara wandered into a small waiting room in another hidden area of the Palace. The whole building was so large that it was easy for someone to hide in it, and this area was perfect for some introspection. First, there was the problem of Ben. He was now in the Emperor’s clutches, and though Luke was an inexperienced dark-sider, barely able to be called a Sith, he was still able to convince people to join the Dark Side. If Ben was turned by Luke, that would make Mara rather outnumbered. She had planned for Luke to discover Ben, but not this early. She had also planned for Ben to learn about the Force, but not this way; she had planned to show Ben both sides and then let him make his own choice. With some luck that would lead to the Dark Side, under Mara’s watchful eyes… Then there was the problem of Leia. Leia was a failed Sith, but had she not somehow come to her senses, she would have probably ousted Luke from his precarious throne. It was obvious that Leia was helping Jaina, which could lead to Jaina as a Sith under Leia’s eyes, which would further undermine Mara… So obviously Jaina had to be returned to Imperial Center. And Leia was no longer mentally stable after playing with the Dark Side for too long; she had to either turn or face lifelong insanity. This part was easy: recapture Jaina and Leia, and turn them back to the Dark Side under Mara’s guidance. They would come back to Imperial Center easily; they would be looking for Jacen. Jacen was another problem. He was so much like Luke in the old days: hopelessly optimistic and an eternal believer in the best in people. That could be easily fixed with a little dose of the Dark Side, but anyone could turn back from the Dark Side… The largest issue of all was Luke himself. He had to either come under Mara’s power, or die. She didn’t really care which; there had never been any love between them anyhow, and he was nothing but a pawn. Her pawn, totally under her control. She had let him run wild, hoping he would straighten up and accept the path of the Sith. He hadn’t, and she was left with only one choice… And who would suspect the Empress of having killed the Emperor? She would put on the requisite grief, and accept the throne as her ‘duty in this time of crisis.’ The Empire would finally be hers. Mara rose from the chair and began navigating the way that would lead her to the Emperor’s throne room. Time to stop him now, just so all of her plans would work as she’d hoped. Jaina could not stop pacing nervously. She knew they would arrive back on Imperial Center, and the optimistic child in her knew they could rescue Jacen. The hardened, streetwise person she was now knew the enormous challenge in front of her. Getting into Imperial Center was hard enough. The traffic authorities didn’t need much suspicion to stop an incoming ship. And if they got past that, there was the matter of getting into the Palace without being caught, and finding Jacen, and getting him out. And if Jacen had been swayed at all to the Dark Side… Perhaps this was an insurmountable challenge. “You’re so pessimistic,” Leia hissed. Jaina jumped. “You can read my thoughts better than I thought…” “Just quit thinking about it, and stop being so nervous. It’s a beacon in the Force to Luke, and I don’t think we need any trouble.” Jaina nodded, trying not to think about what might be happening to Jacen. She had heard the stories about Isard. How the legendary director of Imperial Intelligence had somehow survived what should have been a killing blaster shot. How she had escaped from the New Republic and taken back her Lusankya. How she had resumed her reign of terror under the guidance of the new Emperor… If Jacen was facing danger, Jaina felt an obligation to be there with him. “Getting yourself into trouble won’t be any help to Jacen.” Leia’s voice softened for a moment. Jaina didn’t have to agree with that statement; she knew it was true. She sat down in one of the seats, trying to relax as they prepared for departure from hyperspace and th entry to Imperial Center. Leia sighed, watching Jaina. So young and innocent…so easy of a target… “Oh, Jaina, if you only knew what you are getting into…” Enjoy, even if it's not quite Wednesday... -----signature----- if loving you is wrong, i don't want to be right the life of a crazy college student. beware. give me coffee and no one gets hurt!
