RE: Lightsaber and Amphistaff: NJO AU. Dark Jaina! Update 1/31.
Jaina_Solo_Goddess
: Hello and welcome! Jaina just makes so much sense as a Sith, right? Her personality lends her to it. Keep reading and see how evil it gets!
Irish
: The cliff-hanging is just part of the story. This part has a lot more introspection and discussion, when we get to parts 3 and 4 it gets more action-packed. Now, as long as I don't die trying to choreograph another lightsaber battle...
More is here today!
Lumiya watched Jaina as she assembled the lightwhip. It was a nice little twist in the plot, seeing her apprentice emulating her so much. But to use a lightsaber and lightwhip together? That seemed to be Jaina’s plan, but it was downright unheard-of, and very difficult.
But Jaina was such a talented duellist that she could probably pull it off.
The last piece of Mandalorian iron welded into place, and Jaina was finally finished with the lightwhip. It was far more complex than anything she had made before, but it was worth it. She pressed the activation stud, and a thin beam of fire-red light spilled out, coiling in a pile, twitching like a plasma snake ready for the kill. Satisfied, Jaina picked it up, and with a flick of her wrist, sent the seven-foot-long blade out into the room…
It sparkled and crackled, adding an eerie red glow to things. Easily, it moved in response to even the tiniest movements of
Jaina’s hand, and she quickly decapitated several flowers that stood in a vase nearby. The whip was so much more accurate than a lightsaber, she realised. It was so easy just to stand back and let it do all of the dirty work.
For a moment, Jaina realised that she had a great new innovation here, one that no one on either the Yuuzhan Vong side or the Alliance side would think of.
Perhaps it could guarantee her a victory.
“So you’ve followed in my footsteps and built a lightwhip?” Lumiya watched her apprentice’s first attempts.
“Yeah.” Jaina was looking rather pleased with herself. “I’m rather impressed so far. I was thinking, is there a way to combine the lightsaber and lightwhip in one fighting technique? That’s something no one would be expecting.”
“Always thinking outside the box, aren't you.” Lumiya allowed a grudging note of respect to penetrate her voice. “It’s certainly an innovative idea.”
“So where would I start doing something like that?” Jaina’s eyes were sparkling again. Lumiya thought she saw a hint of red, an indication of what Jaina’s final Sithly eye color would be. It would be a nice complement to her dark hair…
Lumiya ignited her own lightwhip. “First, I would suggest that you hold the dominant weapon in your dominant hand…”
Jaina was very pleased. She was steadily building an arsenal of Sith techniques, weaponry, and powers to use on any opponent, and when Lumiya brought out the YVH droids and, finally, the captured Yuuzhan Vong, Jaina was thrilled at the challenge. It was almost amusing to her to realise how easy it now was to defeat an opponent that she had once thought of as unbeatable.
It was almost as easy as surrendering to the Force, forgetting about all of the pain she had endured from the loss of her brothers…
The wound opened again, and Jaina sank down to the floor of her bedroom. Lately, she had blocked Jacen and Anakin from her mind in an attempt to concentrate more on her training. Now all of the repressed emotion was coming back at her, stronger and more painful than it had been in years.
“No,” Jaina whispered. She did not want to lose control here and now, when she was so close to her goal of defeating the scarheads. All she had to do was release all of the emotion inside, and they would be exterminated, never again to darken the skies of the galaxy…
Ten years ago to the day, Jaina remembered. Ten years ago she had left Myrkr with her life in tatters, and it had never recovered. Now she stood on the threshold of even greater disaster, so easily caused and yet so easily averted. All that there was in between it and her was the final test to pull her over the edge into the Dark Side. The Sith sacrifice that would make her Dark Lady of the Sith. Whatever it was that was most precious, that would be sacrificed for good. Jaina didn’t think there was anything precious in her life anymore…
…except Lumiya…
Lumiya had been more than just a teacher. She was a friend and oftentimes a surrogate mother, understanding Jaina in cases that her family would have thought hopeless. Lumiya had always been there for Jaina, no matter what. And now it seemed that the Dark Side was encouraging Jaina to destroy her mentor?
Yes, it was necessary. Jaina had studied enough Sith history to know that ascension to being Dark Lord or Lady meant that the current one would have to die. But it just seemed too soon. Jedi Knights could train for decades and never be ready to be Masters. Would ten short years be enough to make Jaina into the Dark Lady who could unite a galaxy and make her mark? Or would she be just another Sith wannabe who was brought down by her own arrogance?
The thought of killing Lumiya sobered Jaina greatly. There was no way she could do something like that without regretting it deeply. Lumiya was a good friend and teacher, and her death would leave an absence in Jaina’s life. But if it was necessary…
Jaina had done many necessary things in the name of the Dark Side, including some that she had once found repulsive. It was still often hard to think of her child, without parents, living with relatives. The girl would make a good Sith someday, Jaina knew, but that was a problem for another time. The current challenge of the Sith sacrifice was far greater.
It was time, Jaina sensed. Time to let go of her inhibitions and accept the path of true power that had been long laid out for her.
Time to take the crown that awaited.
Time to face her fears.
The Sith were returning.
And it is a slightly longer one this time. Jaina's journey into the Dark Side is coming to an end soon...mwahahaha...

It's quite cool reading the last two updates together. It blends Jaina's journey quite vividly. She asks herself some real hard questions and her conversation with Vergere--I can see that whole Myrkr thing having just that effect.
All the happiness and warmth just drained away. Relinquishing Jedi ideas and embracing Sithy ones-- that works for now but if Jaina ever feels she's been duped and manipulated--watch out!!! Lumiya and Vergere's "tool" is gonna boomerang back and bite them in the bahookie!!
Wow, SG, you got the sunniest of the sunny ones revved up for evilness!!!
That means your doing a fantab job!!! Irish & I and Dancing_star are die-hard happy-enders

Wow...that was very impressive...so ten years have passed. Have her parents/uncle given up on looking for her? And a lightship and lightsaper together...what an excellent idea.
It's kind of sad that the only person that she loves now is Lumiya. But I have little doubt of her capabilities to destroy said Sith. The Vong are gone by now, right?
And yes, I've always thought that Jaina's personality lent itself to Sithliness; anger issues, coupled with impatience, a spice of revenge, and a little arrogance on top pretty much sum up a Sith. She only needs the training and to let go of inhibitions, which she's gotten here!
Keep up the wonderful work! *Joins in cackling evilly*

RE: Lightsaber and Amphistaff: NJO AU. Dark Jaina! Update 2/4.
Irish_Jedi_Jade
: Angst-happy is a good thing. Though there is much carnage and disaster along the way, there is a happy ending. But beware, there are many evil Sith along the way! And I would advise about one mush fic for every chapter of this that you read.
Jade_eyes
: I would suggest that Lumiya and Vergere be careful. The best analogy I have is like a Frankenstein's monster- they created Jaina to be somewhat under their control, but as she grows stronger in the Force, she may break out of their control and have the power to destroy them. So be careful... I have tried to make Jaina an intelligent Sith, actually thinking about her decisions even with the emotion behind it. Just wait...
Jaina_Solo_Goddess
: Ten years, yes. The YV are still in the galaxy; they have been left out for now, but we will see more of them in Jacen's part of the story. I honestly left it rather ambiguous as to how much Jaina's family is looking for her; it's more like they've figured out she's not mentally stable and will not be around that much. We'll see more of that later, too. And yes, Jaina's personality is so easily made into a Sith that it opens up lots of nice dark possibilities...
Twin_Saber
: Ahh, a new victim. This is going to be a nice Sithly story and glad you like it. Welcome to the PM list.
Meditation was no longer a peaceful escape from all of the problems of the galaxy. It was now a way for the Dark-Lady-to-be to see into the future, many possible visions of a future floating up before her. Some were very improbable while others were far more likely. There was no way that the Yuuzhan Vong would retain control of the galaxy for millennia on end. But they could keep their threat up for a few more decades, if something wasn’t done quickly.
Often, Jaina's mind returned to Myrkr, reliving memories of the terrifying days there and the tragedy that followed. Remnants of other times during the war replayed as well, adding a frightening light to the normally peaceful meditation. And of course there were the nostalgic family moments, something that Jaina usually thought of as a cruel reminder of the life that was taken from her. Always something different… sometimes even visions of a possible future, a reminder of the constant motion that governed actions and the free choices that could decide the fate of a galaxy by something seemingly innocuous.
Tonight, as Jaina settled into meditation, she had a feeling that something unusual was about to happen. For a moment, she recalled the terrifying vision of a Yuuzhan Vong arena and a battle to the death against a shaped Jacen.
The vision was trying to return, and as it arose, another possible future appeared…
Jaina had seen far more frightening things in her visions before, but it was the unusual rather than the frightening that made this one stand out.
She stood in the middle of the arena, surrounded by Yuuzhan Vong. Her opponent was Lumiya this time, armed with only the lightwhip against Jaina’s lightsaber.
They fought like two demons, knowing that it was a battle for life itself. A standard Yuuzhan Vong procedure- to make worthy captives fight, and if one survived the battle, that one would be released. Jaina knew that only one would live to tell this tale, and she had all intentions of it being her.
Jaina was guided by the Force, catching each last cut of the lightwhip so perfectly, driving Lumiya down and finally, one swift stroke of the lightsaber, and it was over…
The assembled Yuuzhan Vong cheered. They had never before seen a battle between two so worthy opponents. Finally, the Supreme Overlord addressed Jaina: “You have won. Now that you have proven yourself as Dark Lady of the Sith, you must fight your twin…”
Jaina awoke from the vision, surprised. She had seen this arena and various battles in it many a time before, and had seen both success and failure. She had seen her own death, too, often at the claws of a Yuuzhan Vong warrior. But this time…
Killing Lumiya was something that Jaina fully expected to do. She was going to have to assume the title of Dark Lady of the Sith, when she was ready, and then Lumiya would have to die as a result. But in full view of her worst enemies… it just didn’t seem right.
As though Lumiya knew what Jaina was thinking, she walked by and commented, “It could happen. Though I would prefer to die in a less ignominious way.”
Jaina laughed. “And I’d rather fight a scarhead in that scene. At least then I can get some revenge.”
Oh, if you only knew the truth… Lumiya thought as she walked away.
* * *
Jaina woke up to find Lumiya standing at the bedroom doorway. “So you’re finally awake. I was afraid I’d have to throw something at you, or set your bed on fire, or sic a wild rancor on you…”
Jaina literally fell out of bed. “No, I’m up. What time…” she glanced at the clock. “Kriff, I wish I hadn’t looked. So what’s up? Either it’s moonglow fruit for breakfast or there’s a galactic crisis. Those’re the only things that’ll get me up this early.”
“Not exactly a crisis, but something that requires your attention.”
“At least wait until I’ve had my morning caf.” Jaina stumbled off towards the kitchen.
Lumiya began as soon as Jaina had a mug of caf in her hands. “It is time for you to begin your Trials. You are almost ready to take my place.”
“So soon?” Jaina was surprised. “I’ve only been training for nine and a half years. Isn’t there a lot more I need to know?”
“All the rest is what you can only learn as Dark Lady.” Lumiya spoke as nonchalantly as though she were discussing the weather, though this was the heavy subject that Jaina had been alternately dreading and waiting for. “Your challenge is as follows: go to Yuuzhan'tar, find your twin, and fight him. Do not kill him unless necessary; leave him alive to remake into your apprentice.”
Jaina almost fell out of her chair. “I guess I’m still dreaming. My twin? But Jacen died at Myrkr.”
Lumiya sighed. “Jaina, Vergere and I lied to you for a long time about this. We wanted you to think Jacen was dead, just because it would be better for the sake of your training. He lived, and was captured, turned to the Yuuzhan Vong side, and is now a Supreme Commander. Quite the achievement for a human, don’t you think?”
“I don’t believe it. I just simply don’t believe it. I have to train him now?”
“Vergere has done all that she can, and she has another mission coming soon. Jacen is your first priority, since blending Sith alchemy with Yuuzhan Vong biotechnology will help you build a Sith empire with no equal. I would also suggest that you begin training your daughter, as we will need more Sith to establish a true Empire of Sith.”
“All right.” Jaina’s head was still spinning from all of this new information. “I’ll go. When do I need to be there, and should I take the lightwhip, too?”
“Yes. Jacen will not expect anything like that. And you will need the antivenins for all of the Yuuzhan Vong poisons that they’re likely to throw at you, and a crash course in how to battle an amphistaff. I sincerely hope you haven’t forgotten everything you have learned about fighting scarheads.”
For the next week, Jaina gathered supplies and the last-minute knowledge she needed. Finally, it was time for her to leave the asteroid that had been her home for so long.
“Lumiya, I’m going to miss you.”
“I know. You have done well, Jaina, and when you finish with this task, you can at last take my place, where you belong. May the Force be with you.”
“Thanks” was all Jaina could say. She spent the hours in hyperspace meditating, hoping that she was doing the right thing by leaving Jacen alive at the end.
She was preparing for the battle that would decide her fate.
The evil begins. I had fun writing this! And it's obvious that Jaina will indeed be very evil by the time this is over. After another post or two, we will find out what Jacen has been doing all this time...

Jade_eyes
: Hmm, actually I didn't write it that way! But that's an entirely plausible interpretation. Oh no... another plot bunny. Just like all the others I had while doing homework today...
Ready for another excitingly evil post?
Jaina stood on the duracrete floor of the hallway, remembering the last item she was on Yuuzhan'tar, and the result of that.
She now returned, nine and a half years later, as a Sith, ready for the battle that would spell the end of the Yuuzhan Vong.
She had planned for this for many years. Preparing to fight…training in the methods that best counteracted scarhead techniques.
There was no room for error, and no thought of loss or surrender. She knew the Sith rules- return victorious or don’t bother to return. Jaina was determined to come back to the asteroid with her captured brother, ready to reshape him into a perfect Sith to rule the galaxy with her. Jacen had the potential, as Jaina had seen over the years.
He just needed to learn how to use it.
Jaina examined the lightwhip she had just built as an addition to her arsenal. She figured it would come in hand some day, with the long whiplash of pure energy and a handle made of Mandalorian iron. It glowed in the same diabolical red as her lightsaber, which was no surprise considering that they shared a crystal. Jaina had spent about a month trying to learn to use the two together without injuring herself. It had been worth it, as now she had found out that when used together, a lightwhip and lightsaber were generally deadly to almost anyone.
Lumiya had even taken the time and found some amphistaffs, and used them to teach Jaina how to best fight a Yuuzhan Vong. The result had been that the amphistaffs got chopped into small pieces but the lightwhip, and Jaina was rather proud of herself for having done it and only getting bitten once.
She sauntered down to the hangar bay and began preparing her ship. She planned to leave as soon as possible, just to get to Yuuzhan'tar quickly and begin setting up her attack.
Jacen and the Yuuzhan Vong would regret the day that Jaina ever set foot on their new homeworld.
* * *
She stood there in front of the warriors, tall, proud, and unafraid. “Take me to your leaders. I am Jaina Solo, a Sith Knight. I am here to battle your champion.”
“Silence, infidel.” The Yuuzhan Vong warrior who was clearly the leader of the scout party was displeased to find this insolent human woman who thought she could take on the best that the Yuuzhan Vong species had to offer and defeat him. “You know nothing of our world. Why should we not kill you now?”
Jaina allowed her glare to become cold and imperious. “I am the other half of the famous Solo twins, and I come here seeking battle with my brother. I am the stronger one and can prove it to you in battle.”
“You have given me no good reason to let you live. Why should I not just kill you now?”
“I am a twin. I am a warrior, trained just as you have been.” Jaina could see that it was all bluster now, and the warriors were cracking. “Do as I say, and when I am victorious, your deaths shall be as you wish them. Disobey…” she ignited the lightwhip…”and I think you would hate to see the consequences. It is far harder to report back to your commanding officer or receive commendations if you are in pieces.”
The Yuuzhan Vong commander considered this. “You have convinced me, infidel woman. But betray your word…” his coiled and ready to strike amphistaff left no room for error- “And you will regret it to your dying second.”
There it all was, Jaina realised. The target of all of her hatred, anger, and vengeance was sitting there on the massive polyp throne. Sitting there like nothing bothered him. Why should it? There was no way for him to know that this small human woman was the greatest threat to his power that he could imagine.
“What do you want, infidel?” Supreme Overlord Shimrra’s voice boomed through the grand throne room.
In accordance with Sith doctrine, Jaina did not bow or grovel. She looked upon the Supreme Overlord as a lesser being, barely even worthy of continued existence. “I come here seeking battle with Jacen Solo, your great warrior. I am Jaina Solo, his twin sister, and I am a warrior as well. I want to see the strongest one win.”
“You are a Jedi, are you not?” The Supreme Overlord questioned.
Jaina’s eyes turned red for a moment. “I am no Jedi. They are cowards and fools, sitting there warming chairs while the galaxy burns around them. No, I am a Sith, powerful and unrestrained by simple laws of morality and loss of power. There is nothing I fear, least of all you and your kind.”
The Supreme Overlord let out a dark chuckle. “You are a strange one, Jaina Solo. Your courage and warrior spirit has impressed me, and I will gladly grant this strange wish. Tomorrow at sunrise, you will meet your twin in battle at the Arena of Agony. Arrive with only the weapons you would normally bring to a fight, and only one of you will walk out alive from this confrontation.”
Jaina smiled wickedly. “I will be the one to live,” she hissed. “You can count on that.” Silently, she added
And I will destroy you, scarhead. I will destroy every single one of your species until the threat has been removed and all the children of the galaxy never have to see your species as anything but a storybook threat. You will be left with nothing, not even a reminder of what you could have done. Don’t call this an empty threat, either. Laugh it off and you will regret it; I am far stronger than you could imagine. I have an arsenal of Sith weaponry and thousands of years’ worth of Dark Side power. I’m coming to get you, and not one of you will be left to remember a time when you could have ruled the galaxy. I will be the last one standing and the last tone left alive to rule. You can count on that. Tremble in your boots. I am coming for you, and it will truly be a day of terror when I do. Just try to stop me. Just try.
Jaina tossed a quick salute and allowed the warriors to escort her out. She had much mental preparation to do before tomorrow, and of course ,she had to be ready to win at all costs.
Tomorrow was the beginning of the end for the scarheads and for Jacen.
* * *
For so long, Jaina had dreamed of this moment, in both her greatest hopes and darkest nightmares. She was about to walk into the arena and fight Jacen, proving to him the superiority of her Sith powers and turn him to the Dark Side at last.
The warriors had instantly known who she was. A lone woman, standing tall and proud, unwilling to surrender…had to be Jaina.
She was totally unafraid, feeling the Force around her, and ready for the battle to being.
For one moment, Jaina remembered her pain at losing Jacen and Anakin.
Now, she was determined to transfer some of that pain onto the Yuuzhan Vong who had brought it down upon her and her family.
They would pay, and Jaina would be the victorious Dark Lady of the Sith.
She smiled and walked into the arena.
Sorry it's so long. And this is the end of Part 1! Coming on Friday: Jacen's part of this begins. And we find out what he's been up to all this time.

RE: Lightsaber and Amphistaff: NJO AU. Part 1 is done and Jaina is a Sith! Update 2/12.
Irish
: Jaina is being decisive, yes... but will that be her undoing too? Keep reading! *Sithly cackle*
Jade_eyes
: Jaina's mentality is really a product of her Dark Side powers. And the twin battle will happen, guaranteed. Not telling the outcome...you'll have to stick around and read for that!
Today begins Jacen's part of the story. It starts at the beginning of Traitor, which I re-read many times to get this story right. Enjoy the long post; I wrote it without chapters so it was hard to divide it now.
It had been thousands of years since Jacen first arrived aboard the Yuuzhan Vong vessel that he remained on now.
He no longer had any measure of time, and spent the eternity wondering.
Wondering what Vergere was doing, why she was doing this to him, and what it truly meant to be shaped and reshaped. Was everything that Vergere did evil? Or did it have a specific purpose that Jacen could not yet see?
Every so often, Vergere did speak. Often, she mentioned things that caught Jacen’s attention, even when they were only a word or two. Life…the Unifying Force…the Living Force…destiny…the Chosen One…Sith prophecy…the tassels…Ziost…Korriban… It was almost as though Vergere was a Sith.
Jacen knew this was not possible; the Yuuzhan Vong would have found and destroyed her many years before if she were a Force-sensitive. But just by her words…
The dreams came to Jacen as he explored the hidden world that Vergere was intimating. A world where light and dark did not exist, only the Force…
By now, Jacen was convinced that he was going insane.
Vergere smiled watching Jacen. He was so much stronger than she had expected- able to withstand the Embrace of Pain, accepting the twisted philosophy they debated…perhaps he would indeed become what she had planned for him.
However, that would entail that Jaina also accepted her true destiny.
She sighed, ruffling her feathers a little, and picked up the slave seed that rested on a nearby ledge in the coral wall of the ship.
It was all a game, she thought with a smile. There were winners and losers in this game.
The stakes were so high, though, that the losers never told the tale.

Vergere watched Jacen carefully through unfathomable dark eyes. For a few minutes, he rested from the Embrace of Pain, watching Vergere warily.
He spoke first. “What are you doing to me?”
Vergere returned his dark glance. “Jacen Solo, all who are in your world consider you dead. They know not what has happened to you, and they all assume the worst. Your parents mourn and your sister has surrendered to her rage. She rapidly destroys herself as she seeks the lands of the dead for herself. You are indeed dead now. And I am your guide through the lands of the dead.”
“What do you mean, I’m dead? Shouldn’t I be a Force ghost?”
“There are many kinds of death. Some of them are very different from the one that you see.”
“But my family is obviously in a lot of pain now. I can’t just leave them and my entire world so suddenly! That’s being downright cruel!”
Vergere smiled. “That is why I am here to help you. To free you from your past life and its bonds.”
Jacen sat up sharply. “There’s something very wrong here. What you’ve been doing to me does not fit the definition of help in any way whatsoever. There is no way in the nine hells of Corellia that you’re helping me.”
“I know about help. I was a Jedi once.”
“You were a Jedi?’ Jacen glanced up in surprise. “When? How did you escape the Yuuzhan Vong finding you?”
Vergere ruffled her feathers, looking rather pleased. “I never told them, of course.” She smiled. “Truthfully, though? It was many years ago, when I was a Jedi Knight of the Galactic Republic.
“I was on a mission with my Master, Thracia Cho-Leem, in the Unknown Regions. There, we discovered a strange species unlike anything the galaxy had seen before.”
“The Yuuzhan Vong,” Jacen said.
“Yes,” Vergere continued. “They were instantly suspicious of us, though we claimed to be peaceful wanderers. Finally, I made a deal with them. I would accompany them if they would let my Master go free. They consented, and I stayed. I prepared to give up all traces of the Force; I stopped wearing Jedi robes, hid my presence with a rather arcane skill, and, hardest of all, destroyed my lightsaber. The Yuuzhan Vong priestess Falung accepted me as her familiar, and I stayed there learning about their culture and way of life. Again and again, I saw that they were not all that different from us, that they had much potential as allies.
“Falung died, and I went to Élan, and of course we all know what happened to her. A rather unfortunate end, I must say. Oh well- she was never that bright to begin with. After she died, I have become a kind of adviser to Tsavong Lah, and a proud enemy of Nom Anor. Now I am here, with the special task of re-creating you. As I have told you, you are dead now, and returning from beyond the grave is no easy challenge. I know you can do it; you are very strong and powerful. However, you must let go of your old life. Let me help you.”
“I don’t like this help. Where are you getting the definition of help? Last time I checked, the Basic word for help didn’t correspond at all with what you’re doing to me.
“Then perhaps our differences are linguistic.” Vergere had a deft comeback for everything Jacen said. “When I was younger even than you, Jacen Solo, I came upon a shadowmoth in its cocoon. I could feel its fear and pain as it tried to escape the cocoon, and I felt that I could do nothing but help. There was no way I could stand there and let it suffer. The cocoon is so strong, and the shadowmoth so delicate, that I had to do something. So I did something you would classify as help: I cut the cocoon, trying to help the shadowmoth to get out.”
“Oh, no, please don’t tell me you did…” Jacen had had enough pets to know how this would end.
“The shadowmoth was crippled. It could not fly since breaking free of the cocoon was what gave it all of its adult attributes.
For just that one summer, while it still lived, alone and cut off from its species and potential, I kept it. I watched it suffer and die. I killed that shadowmoth because I helped it.”
“But that’s not help either,” Jacen said.”
“No? Why not? I saw a creature in distress and did something to relieve its problems. But tell me this, young Jedi: if I had understood what was happening, and that the shadowmoth had to suffer to achieve its destiny, and had I done nothing, would that be considered helping?”
Jacen thought for a moment. “That’s helping. Protecting the moth from predators and beings who would try to help but really just kill it. That’s helping.” Then, Jacen realised where Vergere was taking this… “Wait a minute…”
She smiled. “Protecting a struggling creature. Allowing it to grow and develop as it needs to. Allowing it to experience the pain that will lead to personal growth in the end. And from time to time, letting the creature know it is not alone and that the pain is only a path to a higher destiny.”
“Yes,” Jacen whispered. “Yes. I know. That’s right.”
Vergere nodded. “Now, Jacen Solo, our definitions of help are identical.”
“But we aren't talking about a shadowmoth here. We’re talking about me.”
“I know.” Vergere turned away. “I must go; the Embrace is eagerly awaiting your return.”
“Vergere, wait…” Jacen felt the tendrils start to wrap around his wrists, pulling him back to the monster that had held him in its grip for so long.
She was almost out of the room, when she turned back for a moment. “Everything I tell you is a lie,” she whispered.
Sorry it's so hideously long. I am being badly bitten by another bunny now, as well! Enjoy the philosophy and evil.

: By the end of this, I promise you'll like Jacen. Absolutely. I like him a lot, and I see him in canon as a tragic hero who is being well mis-written. Someday, I'll write a LOTF AU with an intelligent dark Jacen. But he honestly doesn't make much sense as a Sith; Jaina is more in line with the Sith what with her character.

: Writing Vergere was so much fun. I have left it up to the reader to decide how honest or not she is, as I have left clues on both sides to her allegiance. And more plot bunnies will come as stories get done; this one and my YJK AU are the only two I can keep up with now since I have so much homework. And I'm a prolific reader too!
Jacen wondered again and again what the purpose of this was.
Vergere had never truly explained her motives. She just left Jacen in the embrace of Pain, making it find new ways to lay with his mind and nervous system. Jacen spent his time now finding ways around the pain, yet without the Force- Vergere had somehow blocked it… how, he didn’t know. It was obvious that she was no Jedi, as no Jedi would ever fall so far as to use torture so lightly.
Almost as though Vergere heard Jacen’s thoughts, she whispered, “It is not used lightly, Jacen Solo. You will see that there is
a purpose to all I do. Perhaps not one that you understand right now, but there is a purpose to this.”
Jacen suddenly was released from the Embrace of Pain, to his surprise. He waited for a moment, trying to recover but not knowing where to begin.
Vergere spoke again. “Do not think any more. You must rest now, for you are ready to accept what lies in store. Your adventure will continue tomorrow.”
Jacen could barely even acknowledge that he had heard her, but then wondered what awaited, if this was only the beginning…
At that moment, Vergere revealed the bone hook that held a slave seed on the very tip. For a moment Jacen thought he was just hallucinating it-
-and then she stabbed him in the chest.
* * *
It was a toy, Jacen reminded himself. The dhuryam was no more than a toy to be manipulated, controlled telepathically through the slave seed within. Jacen knew he was not supposed to use his connexion with the dhuryam for his own benefit, but now it seemed right. Vergere had noted that if used correctly, the dhuryam would be totally under Jacen’s control and he would oversee the shaping of Yuuzhan’tar.
Vergere smiled as she watched Jacen. He was growing steadily in Force power, as he explored new and different disciplines. He had taken well to flow-walking, though it had been a bit traumatic the first time due to landing in the wrong time of Jacen’s life. She wryly reflected that a return to Myrkr, in any form, was a bad idea. But Jacen was strengthening, and soon, when the dhuryam was grown and Jacen was ready, she would present her creation to Supreme Overlord Shimrra. And the Yuuzhan Vong would have what they truly needed to win this war: a warrior who was trained in their methods and could also combat the Jedi with their methods.
There was no better solution than to create a Sith and warrior hybrid, and it was clear that Jacen was well on his way to becoming that.
A game, Jacen told himself. It’s only a game. Once the dhuryam is safe on Yuuzhan’tar, then I can rest and return to my studies under Vergere.
Jacen felt the dhuryam that he had chosen settle down, ready to begin its work. He barely noticed the warriors behind him, furious at his murder of all the other dhuryams.
He fell into unconsciousness as some poison, probably a Vergere-made one, entered his bloodstream.
For one moment, Jacen was truly happy for the first time in many months. His dhuryam was triumphant and he was about to enter the world of the Yuuzhan Vong. It was so easy to win, Jacen thought. Just associate with the right people and keep your mind and options open.
From far away, Vergere felt a glow of power as Jacen fell one step further into her trap. He was so close to making the transformation, she realised. But to fully go over the edge and become a half-Sith, half-Yuuzhan Vong warrior, Jacen would need to confront the ultimate nemesis in battle.
Privately, Vergere began making plans. This would take a good deal of ingenuity, as the Sith had long ago determined when the plan was first voiced that it was impractical. Turning two people who were so firmly entrenched in the Light Side was nearly if not truly impossible. Vergere had quietly listened to them, never believing it. She knew she could turn both of the famous Solo twins, and make them into the co-rulers of a Sith-dominated galaxy.
All it would take was to exploit their weaknesses. Jacen was already well on his way, and Jaina was vulnerable from the mental anguish she had endured lately.
A well-placed word, an idle mistake, a dark thought, a release of passion… Vergere smiled. Jaina would fall, too. Just as Vergere had hoped.
The Sith would rule once again.
I know this is a bit shorter than normal- more will be coming probably on Thursday night since I will be going home on Friday. Updates are Monday evenings and any time between Thursday night and Friday night.

"But to fully go over the edge and become a half-Sith, half-Yuuzhan Vong warrior, Jacen would need to confront the ultimate nemesis in battle." Does that mean Jaina? *Has suddenly a bad feeling about her likelihood of surviving the coming battle*
So the evolution of Jacen continues...
