RE: Destiny's Heir (TTT AU) Updated 6/18

: Time was the only thing that was really going to work, I'm afraid. But with my birthday off, I managed to get that double post done!
Leia emerged from the life-support tube, and heard the hiss of an airlock closing behind her. She turned, partially from reflex and partially to make sure that Artoo had made it across the threshold before the bridge officers had disengaged the tube from the X-Wing. He had, and Leia now turned her attention to the bay she found herself in. She could hear the thrum of the ship's ventilation system, and judged it safe to remove her helmet. She'd just finished shaking her hair loose when the door to the bay opened and a young woman entered.
"Welcome aboard the
Wild Karrde
," she said. "The captain asked me to bring you to him." The woman didn't wait for an answer, but merely turned, and made her way into the corridor. Leia looked at Artoo, shrugged, and followed. She was surprised to find the corridors rather large, given that she suspected the freighter to be either a smuggler or pirate. Reaching out with the Force also brought a bit of a surprise, since she couldn't feel anything towards the rear of the ship. She should have been able to at least detect the energy of the ship's engines.
The woman stopped about halfway down the corridor. "Captain Karrde is waiting for you," she said, then turned and left Leia standing before the door. It was an odd display of trust, but Leia believed that she had to see the captain. After all, she was depending on him for help. She knocked softly on the door.
"Come in, Ms. Solo," came a voice from inside. Leia stepped forward, the door sensors picking her up and opening the door. She entered to find a simple cabin with a short table, probably designed for meetings, and a couple of computer terminals. She stood on the threshold, reaching out with the Force. It was odd that she couldn't pick up much from Karrde. Like Han, he'd learned to quiet his mind. She sensed an intense focus, and realized that even as she evaluated him, Karrde was doing the same to her.
"I must extend my thanks for your aid," Leia said. "I really don't know what Artoo and I would have done if you hadn't come along."
"Someone would have been along, I'm sure," Karrde said, his voice definitely neutral. "I'm just wondering how someone as capable as you wound up in such a predicament."
"Let's just say I had some engine trouble and leave it at that," Leia said. She'd picked up a few tricks from Han, and knew that the less she revealed about what had happened, the better. Though of course, the thought remained that Karrde's goals might not be entirely honorable.
"Escaping from an Imperial Star Destroyer isn't an easy task, even for a Jedi," Karrde said. "Obviously, they've underestimated you."
"And I have apparently underestimated you, Captain," Leia said. "Your sources of information must be very good, to be able to identify a pilot from a fighter's registry."
"With a lightsaber attached to your belt?" Karrde said. "That's a fairly bold statement of identity. Either that," he chuckled softly, "or your opinion of your swordsmanship is quite high indeed."
"Point taken," Leia said. "So how did you manage to find me?"
"I'm afraid I'm not entirely sure that it wasn't more than an accident. My second-in-command suggested that we drop out of hyperspace and do a quick recalculation. In our profession, it doesn't do for one to be followed. She's the one who first realized what you were."
"I'd like to thank her at some point," Leia said.
"I'm afraid that she's on duty right now," Karrde said. "And let me also apologize in advance. But it doesn't pay to take chances with a Jedi." Leia felt something prick at the back of her neck, and even as she looked inward, she felt herself falling into a black oblivion.
++++++++++++
"Captain Karrde is waiting for you," Faughn said, then continued on her way. She'd been ordered to deliver the Jedi to Karrde, and what happened from there wasn't exactly her business. She knew that the Imperials were anxious to get their hands on the Jedi, but dealing with the Imperials was Karrde's business, at least as long as he ran the organization. Faughn hadn't been with them for six months yet, and wasn't about to go over Karrde's head. She was a little surprised, then when her comlink chirped.
"Faughn," she said.
"It's Nera," the other woman said. "Karrde's given orders to head for the cargo bay and pick up one of the ysalamirs we brought with us. Then swing by the medbay and pick up something that will knock Skywalker Solo off her feet long enough for us to get back to base."
"Wouldn't it be easier to just stun her?" Faughn asked.
"And jeopardize her unborn children?" Nera asked. "No, I think that such a situation would leave her completely unwilling to aid us. Karrde's trying to figure out just what the Empire wants with her."
"And he's hoping that she knows?"
"He believes she does. And while I'd like nothing more than to turn her over to the Imperials, the fact that Karrde told them we were busy would leave us borked with both sides if the New Republic ever found out what happened. So make sure that whatever you hit her with isn't going to damage the children."
"I'm no doctor, Nera," Faughn said, becoming more than a little nervous. What if she didn't get Solo on the first try? Even with the ysalamiri blocking Solo's access to the Force, she'd still be on her guard.
"You can read, can't you? Anything that says something about danger to pregnant women is out. Otherwise, I don't care what you use. But you'd best hurry and quit asking questions. The why can wait, but Karrde's only going to be able to keep Solo talking for so long."
"Right," Faughn said. She headed aft, picking up the branch-like support for the ysalamir that Chin had managed to work up. She didn't like the creatures, but she knew that it was the only chance she was going to have of sneaking up on a trained Jedi. She made her way from the bay, and stopped at the medbay, quickly scanning for something that would fit her needs.
She finally located something, then raced back towards Karrde's office, nearly slamming into Chin as she did so. "Why the rush?" he asked.
"No time to talk," she said, not slowing down. "I'll explain it all later. Or you can ask Nera." She skidded to a stop in front of the door, and put her ear to it.
"And I have apparently underestimated you, Captain," Leia said. "Your sources of information must be very good, to be able to identify a pilot from a fighter's registry." That was Solo, and it sounded like Karrde's words were nearing their end. She stepped close to the door, and it parted before her, the noise covered by Karrde's chuckle.
"And let me apologize in advance," Karrde said, giving Faughn the barest fraction of a nod. "But it doesn't pay to take chance with a Jedi." Faughn fired, the dart speeding across the space to bury itself in Solo's neck. She stood for a moment, started to turn towards Faughn, and collapsed. The younger woman moved quickly to catch her before she could hit the deck.
"Well done," Karrde said. "Take her to one of the empty cabins and lock yourself in with her. After all, I don’t want her wandering the ship if she wakes up."
++++++++++++
That's all for now. More will be coming this weekend.
Force be with you,

Please tell me Leia is going to escape somehow and get away? This Karrade seems a little more sinister so far than the one we all know from canon.

: I don;t know if I'd say my Karrde is more sinister. You just don;t know which way he's going to go with things, which might be coloring your opinion.

Jade_eyes

: I'll keep Leia's fate to myself for now.
Okay, here comes the next post, as we check in on Luke.
Chapter 16
Twilight on Naboo slipped into actual night, and Luke lay on the bed, looking up at the ceiling of the villa that had been prepared for him. In the next room, he could hear Han's measured tread, as if his old friend and brother-in-law still expected some calamity. He'd finally let his suspicions of Panaka drop, and even had gone so far as to admit that the Gungans probably weren't very likely to betray them. After all, the Gungans hadn't exactly fared very well during the reign of the Emperor.
But something was still bothering Han, and that alone was enough reason for Luke to wonder if he was missing something. Leia would have probably located and dealt with the danger already if she'd been here, but she was off trying to chase down a phantom voice, one that very well might be somehow linked to Shira Brie.
It had been some time since Luke had thought of the pilot who'd turned to be a deep-cover operative for Imperial Inteeligence. She'd shown such devotion to the Alliance, and Luke himself had actually developed some feelings for her. Those feelings, of course, had nearly put the entire Alliance in jeopardy, as he'd been one of the last to admit that he'd been fooled as completely as everyone else. How had Shira managed such an elaborate deception, and what, if any, was her connection to the rise in Imperial activity of late?
There had been rumors for some time that there was someone new in command of the Imperial Navy, but space battle and naval engagements had never been Shira's style. If indeed Shira was connected with this new Imperial leader, it was far more likely that she was merely acting as a puppeteer, pulling the strings from the background where nobody would notice, while quietly placing herself in a position to do the most damage against the New Republic.
"So what is your plan, Shira? Is it the entire New Republic you want? Or is it just us?" Luke voiced the question, even though he knew he wasn't likely to get an answer. He rose, and was making his way towards the balcony when he heard, or maybe felt, a soft footfall. He spun, his hand reaching for the lightsaber he'd left near the bed. But the handle never made it to his hand, which was captured and twisted up behind his back.
"Quiet," a voice said from behind him. It wasn't human, Luke knew, but the slight growl to it almost sounded like those Noghri that had attacked on Bimmisaari. He drew on the Force, then pushed in all directions, forcing himself apart from the other being. At the same time, he bent over, his hand groping in the dark for the lightsaber. He ignited the weapon with a snap-hiss, the green blade blazing into existence. Even as he turned to face his attacker, the blade was knocked from his hand, the blade casting weird shadows as it spun away and vanished.
The noise must have gotten Han's attention, as he began pounding on the door. Luke could feel the intruder's body against his back. "Send him away," the intruder said, his voice little more than a growling whisper.
"I'll be fine, Han," Luke said. "I just felt like training a bit." He hoped that Han would get the picture and find some way to get into the room without alerting the intruder, or waking up the entire city. Luke felt the hair on the back of his neck rise as the intruder inhaled, and then, suddenly, he was free.
Han chose that moment to kick the door open, his blaster lowering as he took aim at the intruder. "Don’t kill him!" Luke shouted, calling the lightsaber to his hand once more. He was ready to activate it and deflect any bolt Han might fire, but he saw Han flip the switch, setting the blaster for stun. Luke dropped, rolling out of the way as Han fired, the blue ripples of current scrambling every nerve the intruder had.
"Another Noghri," Han said. "Looks like we weren't as safe as you thought."
"Perhaps not. But he did release me, which just might mean something."
"Yeah," Han said. It means he messed up, and now we're going to get some answers. One way or another."
++++++++++++
Okay, that'll do it for tonight's post. Wednesday will bring the next post!
Force be with you,

I see they have met Kahabarak (can't remember the spelling). I suppose Luke is the Mal'alaruys (Sp?) or is that still Leia? Good post.
