The stitches came out of my shoulder yesterday but it is still swathed in bacta bandages - they came off for good today.
Wes, Tycho and Hobbie are up to something - I can sense it, plus every time the three of them are together, they huddle in a corner away from my bed and talk very animatedly. Wes has hinted that he was planning something - all I want to do is go home; I’ve been here in the hospital for almost three weeks and I am getting bored and tired of the place - besides, I miss my Ewok Emote, the hospital staff wont let the guys bring him in even though he is a droid.
PT was here and did the last treatment I will have before going home, I have taken my shower, dressed and now I am just sitting here with Wes waiting for my nurse to come in with my discharge papers.
“Well, Boss, are you happy to be going home?”
“Relieved is more like it, Wes. This place can wear on one’s nerves after a while.”
“Emote is excited about it - he has missed you. Tycho has had Emic over to our place and Clutch and WooHoo have been there with him, too, to keep him company. It will be good to go home and to sleep in my own bed - I bet you can’t wait to sleep in your own bed as well.”
“That’ll be nice, yes. That and no more hospital food.”
Wes laughed, “It’s not like you have been eating that much of it, you know, Wedge.”
“Yeah, well it makes our field rations look like banquets,” I grinned.
It was then that we were interrupted, “General Antilles, I have your paperwork here for you and Major Janson to sign,” my nurse said placing a datapad down before me to look over.
“Why does Wes have to sign them?”
“Because he is taking responsibility for your transportation home.”
“Oh,” I said as I read over the documents and signed them then handed Wes the datapad who gave it back to the nurse when he was finished.
“Ok Wedge, it’s time to go, I’ve got the speeder waiting downstairs and the hoverchair is right outside the door. Let’s go home.” Wes brought the hoverchair into the room and even though I protested about using it, telling him I could walk out on my own, the nurses wouldn’t let me telling me that it was hospital policy.
The trip home was uneventful and I expected to be met at the door of our apartment by a couple of Ewoks but the place was quiet and empty when Wes and I arrived home. “Tych and Winter have Emote and Clutch with them and they are keeping them for a few days until you get settled in and are up to their rambunctiousness. Your room is all ready for you but I also made up the couch for you,” Wes said leading me over to the couch. “Sit down, boss and take off your boots - I’ll go get lunch ready for us.”
I sat down on the couch and managed to get my boots off; I settled back on the sofa and could hear Wes clanging around in the food prep area - soon he came out with a couple of steaming bowls of Corellian chili topped with sour cream and shredded cheese and a couple of fizzy drinks over ice. After lunch, Wes fussed about me like a mother hen, getting the pillows and quilt from my bed and insisting that I lay down on the couch and get comfortable - take a nap, read, watch the holovision: finally, I fell asleep watching the holovision.

“Wedge, you’ve been home a week now and your therapy is going well.” Wes began, “So, I have gotten permission from your doctor for you to go away for a few weeks on a ‘vacation’ of sorts. Everyone thinks that you are in need of a change of scenery so I am taking you someplace quiet and out of the way - we are going to your grandparent’s, well it’s technically yours now that they have passed, nerf ranch.”
“We’re going to Corellia? How are we suppose to get passed their defenses and get there - remember, technically I am still persona non gratia and I can’t fly my X-wing yet.”
“Tycho and I have it all figured out - we will be going in your ship the Zena’s Pride with your X-wing in the cargo hold and mine clamped to the dorsal side. I will be piloting the Pride and Tycho and Hobbie will be flying cover for us in their fighters - Emote and Clutch will be with us on the freighter and we will be bringing along provisions and anything else we might need.”
“But Wes. . .what about--
“That has been taken care of - the Corellian government could not refuse a request from one of their most famous native sons to return home for a short vacation, recuperation period - Leia and Chief of State Cal Omas saw to that. I have your stuff packed and Tych and Hobbie are pre-flighting the ship - they have already stocked it - we leave to head to the hanger in an hour; that gives you enough time to shower, shave and me to fix us something to eat to take with us.”
“Why wasn’t I included in this ‘mission’ and its planning stages - after all we are using my old freighter.”
“Because we knew that you would throw up road blocks and try to stop us at every turn, that’s why.”
I gave Wes my most surly General’s glare - the one that said ‘how dare you plan all this without me’. I got up off the couch, headed to the ‘fresher, took a nice long hot shower and shaved while Wes spent his time in the kitchen fixing us something to take with us on the trip - he made enough for Tycho and Hobbs as well. I dressed in the pair of sweat pants and the oversized sweatshirt Wes has set out on my bed for me - I had to call Wes in to help me get dressed, putting on a shirt with the use of only one arm is not an easy thing to do but at least now I can put my arm through the sleeve and then back into the sling. Wes takes very good care of me - he is a great aide-de-camp and body guard even if he does still feel guilty about me getting hurt.
An hour and a half later, we were closing up the apartment and loading our luggage on a hovercart along with that of our Ewoks who were bringing their books and toys with them. Wes pushed the hovercart after calling Tycho on his comlink to let him know that we were on our way followed closely by Emote and Clutch. We took my speeder to the hanger bay where the Pride was kept and greeted Tycho and Hobbie. I made sure that the Ewoks were strapped into the flight couches in the lounge and then I went and strapped myself into the co-pilot’s seat while Wes loaded our stuff onboard - soon we were ready to be under way with Wes at the controls of my ship.
Tycho and Hobbie took off first and then Wes launched the Pride, we rendezvous with the X-wings in high orbit above Coruscant, got clearance to go through the planetary shields as a group and headed to Corellia - a three day trip at lightspeed.

I still can't believe that Poppy let me come here by myself - he is protective of me since he was released from that horrible prison on Brentaal. He may not show it to the outside world but it really had a terrible effect on him, being locked up for so long. It's great to have him back, though.
Anyway, the trip to Corellia and the old Nerf Farm was easy and exciting. As we planned, when I got near the farm, I commed Wes and he met me around the curve so my arrival couldn't be seen from the house. It would have been nice if he had warned me about the muddy path, though. Oh well. That's Wes.
He snuck me in the back door - it was about noon - when they had everything ready for their little 'lunch party.' It's a wonder Wedge didn't come in to see what was happening because Hobbie made so much noise! I thought Tycho was going to clock him for a minute.
Tych must have told the Ewoks because they didnt make a squeak when they came in to trundle all the food and gifts out to the table. I had the special job. When they were all seated, I pushed through the door holding the cake. The guys stood and sang 'Happy Life Day' to Wedge while I managed to get the huge thing to the table without dropping it. Amazing!
Wedge just sat there and stared at me. His eyes got all teary and so did mine. I could hardly see as I rounded the table and knelt beside him to hug him. It had been so long since we had actually seen each other what with me being assigned to a different squadron when I got out of School. We barely had time to say hello when they had the big party for Poppy...but I digress. Back to Wedge and the party!
I was so afraid to hug him! I was afraid I'd hurt him! Yeah, yeah, I know he's tough, but still...he could have died from those injuries. He almost did! Oh, Wedge!
We talked for so long - Wedge, the guys and me. We had been together for so many years, shared so much, laughed and cried and fought the good fight. I love these guys. I love my big Brother...not just because he saved me, but because he is who he is...and I swear, I will never let him down.
