I time here on Corellia is quickly coming to an end - within the next week we head back to Coruscant. I'll miss the ranch and Corellia.

1 April

I, we, have been back on Coruscant for almost two weeks now and the doctors have declared my shoulder healed and have cleared me to resume my duties and to fly but I still need some physical therapy to bring it all the way back up to 100%.

Today is Wes’s favorite day of the year - Pranks, Jokes and Fools Day - it suits him, too but instills dread in me and the rest of the squadron because we never know what he is going to do just that he is going to do something and the waiting for the hammer to fall is really worse part: this year the hammer fell on our X-wings, our flight suits and worst of all, on us pilots ourselves.

The day started out like any other day for the squadron when we have a training exercise; up at 0500, an early breakfast together in the mess and then at 0600 heading to the locker rooms to suit up in our flight gear - that is when I knew this was going to be another ‘one of those days’ as I heard swearing and locker doors slamming, threats being thrown around like Naboo rice at a Gungun wedding. It wasn’t until I opened my own locker that I found out what all the noise was about; my orange flight suit had been replaced with one of neon blue. Walking through the locker room I saw that everyone’s regular flight suits had been replaced with ones of neon colors - not only the suits but the life support gear had been colored the same way and matched with clashing flight suits - yellows with purples, pinks with greens, purples with oranges, et cetera - all-in-all, a rainbow sea of eye numbing, nauseating neon: Wes’s was the worst, his flight suit and life support gear were a combination of all of the colors mixed together in a riot of colors - enough to make one sick to his stomach.

I suited up in my purple and yellow flight suit with its green life support system and headed to the hanger only to be met by an sight even worse than the one in the locker room - all of the squadron’s X-wings had been repainted in combinations of pastel colors to match the neon’s of their owner’s flight gear. I looked around for Wes - I knew he was the one responsible for all of this but he had suddenly become as scarce as hen’s teeth; I wanted to blast him into the next week for this mess and he knew it. I didn’t have time to go look for the instigator of the Rogue’s newest color schemes, nor did we have the luxury of time to have the ships repainted before the exercises were scheduled to begin so amidst much grumbling and complaining, my pilots did their pre-flight checks and walk-arounds while I kept my eye out for Wes. His bird was already pre-flighted and prepped but he was still nowhere to be seen - I knew he was hiding from me.

Tycho came up to tell me that the squad was ready - he looked decidedly unhappy in his neon pink, purple and green flight suit with it chartreuse life support, “You know Wedge, if I get my hands on Janson before you do there will be nothing left of him for you.”

I laughed and nodded my head, “I have a sneaking suspicion that right now if any of the Rogues gets their hands on him he will not live to see tomorrow,” I agreed. “Let’s get this over before the nightmare can get any worse.” I looked around and noted that the Rogues were in their fighters and I nodded to Tycho for him to do the same - I still did not see Wes.

I finally did find Wes, he was hiding in the cockpit of his X-wing and took off after the rest of the Rogues had left the hanger and waited to be the last to land; he knew his life was probably forfeit if any of us got our hands on him so he kept a very low profile for a few days following his little prank. He is, and will, be pulling double duty shifts until the end of the month plus he has had to repaint the squadron X-wings their rightful colors and return all of the pilots’ flight gear back to its original condition - this is all in addition to his regular duties as my personal aide and bodyguard and his squadron duties. I may not have blasted him but it will be a long time coming before he tries to pull another prank like this on his fellow squadmates.

*shakes head.* Wes will never learn. He thinks it's so funny but no one else does, yet he does it anyway. I really love the guy but I'd want to choke him, too. Now, if everyone else laughed, too....it would be a whole different story...and probably not as much fun. Imagine. Neon X-Wings. Zraii would have loved it. wink

13 May

I finished the pre-flight check and walk-around of my X-Wing in preparation of a joint Rogue and Wraith training exercise. I looked around to see Tycho, Wes, Hobbie, Face and the others following my example, and also checked to see that they weren't watching me, before I opened the hatch to the cargo hold; I rummaged around until my hands fell on what I was searching for. I withdrew my duffle and unzipped it. I dug down under the med-kit, ration bars and other miscellaneous items a fighter jock carries with him in case of emergency landings until my finger-tips brushed something soft. Again, I looked up and over my shoulder; this was something I went through each time I flew and it was never easy. To this day I am not sure how I could ever explain it if anyone were to see what I was about to do next. "At least when we scramble everyone is too busy to catch me but during routine flights and training runs, it is a bit more difficult to keep secret," I thought to myself.

I looked around once more as I take out a small blanket wrapped bundle. The blanket is old and worn, one of the few things that I have left from my carefree childhood, from before my dreams of a normal life were shattered, from my life before my parents were killed as I watched from the Pulsar Skate unable to do anything. I have carried it, and its contents, with me on every flight, into every battle since I joined the Rebellion, and now the New Republic, when I was sixteen.

I straightened up tucking the bundle under one arm; I closed and secured the cargo hatch and walked to the ladder leading up to the cockpit of my X-Wing. As I placed my foot on the bottom rung, the bundle was knocked out from under my arm. Quickly I turned and reached out to snatch it off the hanger floor. I ended up staring at a pair of familiar flight boots, "Hey Boss," Wes Janson said holding the blanket bundle in his hands, "Whatcha got here?"

I made a quick grab for it, "Nothing, Wes." I said as he began to play keep away with it, tucking it behind his back.

"Must be something important, Wedge, or your face wouldn’t be so flushed and you wouldn't want it back so bad."

Not wanting to play his game, I commanded only loud enough for the two of us to hear,
"Major! Attention!"

Years of training forced Wes to snap to attention, dropping the bundle. As it hit the durasteel hanger deck, the blanket unwrapped and out fell my well-loved stuffed bantha from my childhood, showing patches here and there where fur had been worn off from many long years of being cuddled and loved. I snatched him up off the deck and with one swift move tossed him up and into my open cockpit. I looked at Wes, my face red with embarrassment, "Major,” I growled softly, “Wes, you breathe just one word of what you just saw and I swear - I SWEAR THAT I WILL BE FORCED TO SHOOT YOU.“

Wedge, I've known about Bamfa since Yavin," he said gently. "Since you came back from the first Death Star run and I was released from the sick bay, since Luke assigned me as your wingman and roommate back then - I've seen you sleep with him. I have heard you crying into his fur over the loss of friends and pilots under your command. I know he sits on the shelf behind your head in your ship. If I haven't said anything to anyone in all these years, why would I say something to someone now?"

Good job Wes, nicely said. Wedge has to realize that everybody has their issues, good luck/pieces of memory charms, especially fighter pilots. It's ok to carry a memory with you.

Wedge, in a way, should be relieved that someone knows what he has with him and really understands the reasoning behind it. I would think a squadron is like family. They take you for who you are.

Very sweet update.

Oh, and congrats on your son becoming a full fledged Marine.

I know I've said it before, but please add my congratulations to Michael on his achievement. May a legion of angels watch over him and his buddies.

Wes is what I call a true friend and Wedge is blessed to have him. Pilots, even in the GFFA, are mostly boy but they are also men who know what a buddy needs. A very touching update. Thank you.

Blessings,
Sis

Thank you everyone for you congratulations on Michael's graduation from USMC boot camp - still with it would have been the Air Force though happy . This past weekend he completed some more field training at Camp Pendleton in California and is now on his way to his MOS school for Field Communications in 29 Palms, CA.

"What do you mean, we don't have any left? There were at least a dozen here a couple of minutes ago."

"Like I said, Boss, we don't have any left. None. They're all gone. Hobbie, Tycho, and I took care of them all with a little help from the rest of the Rogues."

"But I just got here. Out of a total of thirty-six, you couldn't even save one for me?"

"There wasn't time, Wedge. And it's not my fault you over slept. Next time listen to me when I tell you it's time to get up and try to drag your sorry body out of bed." Wes' voice was tinged with humor.

Wedge contemplated Wes' words before he spoke again, "Next time you wont think it's so funny when you slip something into my drink that makes me as sick as a womprat all night, Wes."

"Well, you do have to admit, Wedge, it was kinda funny," Wes paused, "Until Tycho made me clean up the mess in the 'fresher you made."

Wedge suppressed the urge to grin before he continued returning to the original topic of conversation, "But Wes, didn't Tycho tell you, you were suppose to save at least one TIE for me to vape?"
